Nikolai categorically forbade him to talk about his good deeds. Nevertheless, this story gained fame. It is believed that the tradition of giving gifts to children at Christmas came from her.

Saint Nicholas often acted as a defender of the slandered and innocently convicted, even when they did not turn to him with a request for intercession, so great was his desire for justice. Thus, natural biological connections are destroyed: the habitats and food supply of various living creatures are reduced. The consequence of all this is an even greater and faster extinction. In order to concentrate society's attention on this acute problem, this event was organized.

The rule of faith and the image of meekness,/ the self-control of the teacher/ will show you to your flock/ even the truth of things;/ for this reason you have acquired high humility,/ rich in poverty./ Holy Father flaxen Nicholas,/ pray to Christ God // to save our souls.
Translation: The immutable Truth was revealed to your flock by the rule of faith and the image of meekness and self-control. Troparion for the Transfer of Relics, Tone 4

The day of the bright celebration has arrived,/ the city of Barsky rejoices,/ and with it the entire universe rejoices/ with songs and spiritual songs:/ today is a sacred celebration/ in the offering of the honorable and multi-healing relics/ of the saint and wonderworker Tsa Nicholas, / like the never-setting sun, shining with radiant rays ,/ dispelling the darkness of temptations and troubles/ from those who cry out truly // save us, as our great representative, Nicholas.
Translation: The day of bright celebration has come, the city of Bari rejoices, and with it the whole universe rejoices in psalmody and spiritual hymns, for today is a sacred celebration in honor of the transfer of the revered and healing relics of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, who shone like the never-setting sun with bright rays that disperse the darkness temptations and troubles from those who cry out in faith: “Save us as our great intercessor, Nicholas.”

I did not forsake my Fatherland, the Lycian Worlds, in spirit, / I was transported gloriously in body to the premium city of Barsky, to Bishop Nicholas. / And from there you made a multitude of people glad with your coming / and more You healed the people./ Moreover we pray to you, Saint Nicholas,/ pray to Christ God, // may our souls be saved.
Translation: His Fatherland, the Lycian Worlds, without leaving spiritually, Bishop Nicholas miraculously transferred his body to the peaceful city of Bari. And there he made many people happy with his coming and healed the sick. Therefore, we pray to you, Saint Nicholas, pray to Christ God to save our souls.

Your wonderful and glorious Nativity, to St. Nicholas, / The Church today brightly celebrates the Orthodox, / for by standing your foot / the Lord will reveal you and proclaim you to be a lamp and teacher of the laity, / all enriching the world and enlightening miracles./ Thus we cry to you: pray to Christ God will save our souls.
Translation: Your wonderful and glorified birth, Saint Nicholas, is brightly celebrated by the Orthodox Church today, for by the fact that you stood on your feet (supported by no one, during Baptism in the font), the Lord showed you and proclaimed you to be a luminary and teacher for the laity, enriching the whole world and enlightening miracles. Therefore, we appeal to you: “Pray to Christ God for the salvation of our souls.”

Translation: In the Worlds, Saint, you appeared as a performer of sacred service, for having fulfilled the Gospel of Christ, Reverend, you laid down your soul for your people and saved the innocent from death, and therefore you were sanctified as a great minister of the Mysteries of God’s grace.

Translation: Your relics rose (and shone) like a star from east to west, Saint Nicholas, the sea was sanctified by your journey, and the city of Bari accepted your grace, for you appeared to us - an extraordinary, amazing and merciful miracle worker.

In Mireh, Saint Nicholas, was born, / from a noble root, like a fruitful branch, you grew cold, / because you were filled with Divine gifts, / like the sun at dawn, you enlightened the whole world with miracles. / For this reason we glorify you, // as a disciple and hidden person of God grace.
Translation: Having been born in Myra, Saint Nicholas, from noble roots you grew like a fruitful branch, for you were filled with Divine gifts, like the sun’s radiance, you enlightened the whole world with miracles. Veshnee Makoshye (Earth Day)

“Veshnee Makoshye” (“Earth Day”) is one of the oldest Old Slavonic, even Vedic holidays dedicated to Mother Earth. It is customary to celebrate it annually on May 22 (Old Calendar 9). In ancient times, people called the date “The Day of the Meeting of the Sun-Yar and the Moon-Yarina,” which were identified with the gods Veles and Makosh, respectively.

According to the ancient Slavic pantheon, they were the traditional patrons of the entire universe, the Earth itself.

It is believed that the holiday was one of the most ancient ritual events, with its roots going back to times that even preceded the appearance of early Slavic cuneiform writing (2-3 centuries AD).

The ancestors of our ancestors believed that during winter, Mother Earth, like a bear, falls into deep hibernation. This is how she gains strength for the new year.
