It has long been customary for Orthodox Christians to give children names in accordance with the church calendar, which indicates the dates for honoring all the saints.

The child was named after the saint whose day was closest to the baby’s date of birth. It is believed that this is how a boy or girl receives their guardian angel, who will protect them all their lives and guide them on the right path.

According to the Orthodox church calendar, 9 men's name days are celebrated on October 9. UNIAN will tell you who the birthday boy is today.

Men's name day October 9: Apostle John the Theologian

Among all the Savior’s disciples, John the Theologian was distinguished by his special Christian love and virgin purity. He relentlessly followed Jesus Christ everywhere, was present when the Lord performed miraculous healings, was nearby during interrogations and followed the Teacher along the Way of the Cross. John the Theologian was one of three disciples of Christ whom he especially brought close to himself.

After the crucifixion of the Savior, the apostle tried to replace the Mother of God with a son and was next to her until her dormition. Later, John the Theologian headed from Jerusalem to Ephesus, intending to preach the Christian faith there.

Along the way, the ship with his students sank into the sea. They were all able to get out of the abyss, but no one found either the apostle or his body on the shore. Fourteen days later, John's disciple Prokhor found his teacher on the shore unharmed. The Lord saved his life, not allowing him to drown in the abyss of the sea.

In Ephesus, the Theologian was persecuted, arrested and condemned to death. But the Lord always protected him. The apostle drank a cup of poison and remained alive; he was thrown into a cauldron of boiling oil - and he came out of it unharmed. After this, John was exiled to the island of Patmos. He lived here for many years, continuing to preach and perform miraculous healings.

On the island, John the Theologian wrote the Book of Revelations, or the Apocalypse, returning in the 95th year of his life to Ephesus - the Gospel. In all his messages, the apostle called on Christians to love one another and fulfill the commandments of God.

The elder died, having outlived all the other witnesses to the Savior’s life. When he was over a hundred years old, the apostle told his disciples to dig a grave in the shape of a cross, lay down in it and ordered him to be covered with earth. Later, when other students excavated the burial site, it turned out that the body was not there. However, every year at this place on May 8, some of the ashes of the apostle appeared, with which all the sick were healed. On this day and October 9, the name day is celebrated by men named after Ivan. On these dates, the Orthodox Church remembers the holy Apostle John the Theologian.

Born in 1420 in Kashin, Tver province, into a family of poor believers. Even before his birth, his parents decided that they would give their son to serve the Lord. Ephraim (worldly name Eustathius) himself learned to read and write from Divine books and served in the church from an early age. Having learned that they wanted to marry him, the young man asked his parents for leave to go to the Kalyazin Monastery and remained there as a novice.

Three years later, Eustathius moved to the monastery of Savva Vishera. Here he took monastic vows with the name Ephraim. He served the church well and worked beyond human strength. A few years later, Ephraim went to the desert, where he set up a cell and closed himself off from everyone in it, being in constant prayer. Gradually other monks joined him.

In Novgorod, Ephraim assumed the priesthood and, returning to his former place of residence, founded a temple there in honor of the Epiphany of the Lord. Later, another temple was erected nearby in the name of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. Here, after his death on September 26 (October 9, name days are celebrated according to the new style) the saint was buried. On this day the Orthodox Church honors his name.

Character traits

Women born in November are greedy for money and very selfish. Calculating and envious, going to break, this is how you can describe the average woman born in the last autumn month. It is difficult to describe the advantages of their character, since most of them contain negative ones. They do not forgive insults and will not calm down until they take revenge on the offender. They love to party at other people's expense, and when the time comes for personal waste, they are always stingy, but not in terms of themselves. There are no favorite boundaries or refusals for yourself.

Self-confidence and narcissism are characteristic of girls from a very young age. In the family, they take the reins of power into their own hands, and will partly suppress their partner so that he feels under the hood. The character of such children is difficult to predict; some of them become sages, some become stupid, some are humane, and some are materialists.

It’s easy and interesting to communicate with them, but if you step on their tail, you should be afraid of evil retribution. They are stubborn and ruthless, not subject to moral and social principles. They are very active in life, do not like to sit still and prefer to travel systematically. They make highly qualified psychologists, philosophers and teachers, with a unique sense of justice.

Being under the systematic influence of fate, they easily manage to find a way out of any current situation.
