Metropolitan JOHN

CREATORS OF CATACLYSMS:

REALITY AND MYTHS

Conversation between the editor-in-chief of the newspaper “Soviet Russia” Valentin Chikin and His Eminence JOHN, Metropolitan of St. Petersburg and Ladoga

Vladyko, you are probably already accustomed to the fact that each of your appearances on the pages of the press causes a wide public response. But even against this background, the reaction of various political forces, and even our ordinary readers, to your article “Creators of Cataclysms,” published in “Soviet Russia” on March 22 of this year, looks unprecedentedly violent. It was dedicated to the spiritual foundations of Russian civilization, but this was not the reason for its special popularity. In the article you directly touched upon the extremely painful “Jewish question” for Russia, analyzing in detail its religious and moral aspect. Gleb Yakunin, in an open letter addressed to Yeltsin, immediately called on the president to put you on trial for this. The vigilant prosecutor’s office soon sent its stern representative to our editorial office with a menacing commanding cry: “How dare they publish it?” In general, there was a lot of noise. Since then, the editors have received a lot of letters. The authors of most of them express their warm support to you; There are those who sharply criticize you, but the main thing is that they all unanimously demand that the discussion on this topic be continued. Unfortunately, due to a lack of printing space, we are deprived of the opportunity today to publish a representative selection of reader responses, but I will try to cite the most typical statements. “With anger and pain, I learned from the newspaper “Soviet Russia” that Yakunin, who had been disgraced, attacked Metropolitan John with a denunciation for the article “Creators of Cataclysms,” writes Yuri Ivanov from Yekaterinburg. Master! You are known and read throughout Holy Rus' - from Kamchatka to Kaliningrad. Your articles are read and re-read, passed from hand to hand. Your flock numbers in the millions. From your articles, the laity - believers and non-believers - draw moral and spiritual strength to fight the enemies of the Church and the Russian people. Russian people understand who is for Rus' and who is against it. It is painful to see how widely the heresy of the Judaizers has now spread. How many more of them will emerge, Christ-haters and Russophobes, pretending to be Orthodox for the time being! Master! I ask you - do not pay attention to people like Yakunin. They don't deserve it. Take care of your health and mental strength. We really, really need you, Master. Your health and unhealth are the health and unhealth of the entire Russian people... ' And here is a letter from a representative of the opposite point of view. Its author is Anatoly Vladimirovich Wolfson, by his own admission, “an assimilated Jew and a person brought up in a purely Russian spirit.” “Dear editors,” he writes. -Currently, there are not so many central newspapers that you read with great attention. Among them is 'Soviet Russia'. But the article by Metropolitan John “creators of cataclysms”, published by you, can unsettle any decent person and outrage him to no end. It has long been known that a person’s culture and upbringing can be assessed in relation to Jews. I don’t know if other Jews write to you, but this topic is not inherent in your newspaper - and in vain! After such materials as 'Creators of Cataclysms', you are simply obliged to review letters from readers, since even the 'old Bolsheviks' are now calling on the people 'against Yeltsin and the Jews'! I could, of course, give a lecture to Metropolitan John about why God chose only Jews as his people, but I think there’s no point in wasting time. I warn you, Metropolitan, cataclysms are your internal affairs. The Jews were and remain the chosen people of God. Therefore, the time has come for the Orthodox Church to seriously understand, admit its sin and deal with anti-Semitism in all its forms! ' As you can see, Vladyko, the range of opinions is very wide. Maybe it’s worth returning to this topic again? Over the past few months, I have also received many letters of response to my article. I don’t want to boast, but among them there is not a single curse word. Vice versa. There are even peculiar orders. One servant of God from Tver, for example, sent a list of questions related to the current catastrophic situation of the Russian people. These issues, in her opinion, need to be discussed simultaneously at meetings of the Holy Synod and the State Duma... And yet, I did not intend to return to topics related to the problems of Russian-Jewish relations. God knows, the Russian people today have more than enough other problems. But if there is a need for any explanations or additions to what has been said, I am, of course, ready to clarify any confusion that arises to the best of my ability.

Prayer book in Russian

Morning prayers

Rising from sleep, before doing anything else, stand reverently, presenting yourself before the All-Seeing God, and, making the sign of the cross, say:

In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Then wait a little until all your feelings come to silence and your thoughts leave everything earthly, and then say the following prayers, without haste and with heartfelt attention.
The Publican's Prayer
(Gospel of Luke, chapter 18, verse 13)

[1]

God, be merciful to me, a sinner!
(Bow) Initial prayer
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, through the prayers of Your Most Pure Mother and all the saints, have mercy on us. Amen.

Glory to Thee, our God, glory to Thee.
Prayer to the Holy Spirit [2]
Heavenly King, Comforter, Spirit of Truth, existing everywhere and filling everything with Himself, Source of blessings and Giver of life, come and dwell in us, and cleanse us from all filth, and save, O Good One, our souls.
Trisagion [3]
Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us.

(Read three times, with the sign of the cross and a bow from the waist).

Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now, and always, and forever and ever.
Amen. Prayer to the Most Holy Trinity
Most Holy Trinity, have mercy on us; Lord, cleanse our sins; Lord, forgive our iniquities; Holy One, come and heal our infirmities, for Thy Name's sake!

Lord have mercy.
(Thrice) Glory, And now[4]. The Lord's Prayer (given to us by Jesus Christ)
Our Father who art in heaven!
Hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us our daily bread for this day; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and do not let us fall into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. Troparia to the Most Holy Trinity
Rising from sleep, we fall before You, O Good One, and offer an angelic song to You, O Mighty One: Holy, Holy, Holy You, O God, through the prayers of the Mother of God, have mercy on us.

Glory: You raised me from the sleep of the night, O Lord, enlighten my mind and my heart and open my lips to sing to You, Holy Trinity: Holy, Holy, Holy You, O God, through the prayers of the Mother of God, have mercy on us!

And now: Suddenly the Judge will come, and everyone’s deeds will be laid bare, but we also call with fear at midnight: Holy, holy, holy You, O God, through the prayers of the Mother of God, have mercy on us!

Lord have mercy.
(12 times) Prayer to the Most Holy Trinity
Having risen from sleep, I thank You, Holy Trinity, for through Your great goodness and long-suffering, You, Lord, were not angry with me, lazy and sinful, and did not destroy me with my iniquities, but as always showed Your love for mankind, and raised me from the sleep of the night so that I would offer up the morning prayer to You and glorify Your power. And now enlighten my mental eyes, open my mouth to learn Your words, and to understand Your commandments, and to do Your will, and, confessing You with all my heart, to sing Your all-holy name, of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and always and unto the ages. centuries. Amen.

Come, let us worship our King - God. (Bow)

Come, let us bow and fall before Christ, our King - God. (Bow)

Come, let us bow and fall before Christ Himself, our King and God.
(Bow) Psalm 50
Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your great mercy, and according to the multitude of Your compassions, cleanse my iniquities.
Wash me from all my iniquities, and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my iniquities, and my sin is always before me. I have sinned only before You, and I have done evil before You, so You are right in Your verdict and just in Your judgment. From my very birth I have been guilty before You; I am a sinner from my conception in my mother’s womb. But You love the sincere in heart and reveal to them the secrets of wisdom. Sprinkle me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will become whiter than snow. Return joy and gladness to my soul, and my bones, broken by You, will rejoice. Turn Your face away from my sins and cleanse all my iniquities. Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a right spirit in me. Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation and strengthen me with Your Sovereign Spirit. I will teach the wicked Your ways, and the wicked will turn to You. Deliver me from premature death, O God, God is my salvation, and my tongue will praise Your righteousness. God! Open my mouth, and my mouth will declare Your praise. For You do not desire sacrifice - I would give it - and You do not favor burnt offerings. A sacrifice to God is a contrite spirit; God will not despise a contrite and humble heart. Renew, O God, by Thy mercy Zion, erect the walls of Jerusalem. Then righteous sacrifices will be acceptable to You; then they will lay sacrifices to You on Your altar. Symbol of Faith
I believe in one God the Father, Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, everything visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, begotten of the Father before the beginning of time; Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not created, consubstantial with the Father, through whom all things were created.

For us, for the sake of people and for our salvation, who came down from heaven and became incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and became human. He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, and suffered, and was buried, and rose again on the third day, as the Scriptures foretold. And ascended into heaven and reigns with the Father. And He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead; His kingdom will have no end. And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Life-Giving One, who proceeds from the Father, with the Father and the Son, equally worshiped and glorified, who spoke through the prophets.

Into one Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church.
I confess one baptism for the remission of sins. I hope for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the next century. Amen. Prayer 1, Saint Macarius the Great
God, cleanse me, a sinner, for I have never done anything truly good before You: but deliver me from all evil, and Thy will be done in me, so that I will uncondemnably open my unworthy lips and praise the name Your Holy One, Father and Son and Holy Spirit, now and always and unto ages of ages.
Amen. Prayer 2,
having risen from sleep from the same saint, I offer a song of prayer to You, My Savior, and, falling down, I beg You: do not let me fall asleep in sinful death, but have pity on me, O voluntarily Crucified, and on me, lying in laziness, arise quickly and save me in standing before You and in prayer and in my sleep at night, so that a sinless day may dawn on me, O Christ God, and save me.
Prayer 3, of the same saint
To You, Master Lover of Mankind, having risen from sleep, I turn my thoughts and feelings, and I take up Your works according to Your mercy, and I pray to You: help me at all times and in every matter, and deliver me from all the evil of this world and from participation in the works of the devil, and save me and bring me into Your eternal Kingdom.
For You are my Creator and the Provider and Giver of all good, and all my hope is in You, and I offer glory to You, now and always and unto the ages of ages. Amen. Prayer 4, of the same holy
Lord, according to Your many goodness and according to Your great generosity, You have given me, Your servant, the passing time of this night to pass through without misfortune from all evil: You Yourself, Master, Creator of the whole world, illuminate me with Your true light, and help those with an enlightened heart to do Your will, now and always and forever and ever.
Amen. Prayer 5, St.
Basil the Great Lord Almighty, God of ethereal forces and all flesh, living in the highest and having mercy on the humble, and knowing the very depths of human hearts, You are the Beginningless and Eternal Light, in which there is neither change nor the slightest darkness; Himself, Immortal King, now accept from us, in response to the multitude of Your bounty, our prayers brought to You from evil lips, and forgive us our sins, in deed, word, and thought, whether we have sinned in knowledge or ignorance, and cleanse us from all defilement of flesh and spirit. And grant us, with a watchful heart and a sober mind, to go through the whole night of our earthly life, awaiting the coming of the bright and glorious day of Your Only Begotten Son, our Lord and God and Savior Jesus Christ, on which He, the Judge of all, will come with glory, to render to everyone according to their deeds. his; may He find us not fallen and lazy, but cheerful and ready to do, may we enter into the joy of the Divine palace of His glory, where those who celebrate the unceasing voice and inexpressible joy of those who see Your face, kindness beyond words. For You are the true Light, enlightening and sanctifying everyone, and all creation glorifies You forever and ever. Amen.
