Who to pray for the health of family and friends - text of the prayer

Prayer “Our Father”

Everyone should know this powerful Orthodox prayer from birth. It is considered universal, since it can be read in any case:

  • anxiety, excitement;
  • desire to maintain peace of mind;
  • illness;
  • the need to cleanse yourself of negativity, unkind thoughts, etc.

Its origins go back to the distant past. When Jesus' disciples saw him deep in prayer, they asked him to teach them. This is how the Lord’s Prayer was conveyed to the disciples.

These seemingly simple words of prayer encrypt the best path to understanding the essence of the Christian religion.

Love of money

There is such a passion as love of money. This is when a person is not interested in anything other than money. All his thoughts and desires are related to making a profit. Moreover, someone overwhelmed by this passion can be poor, no matter how strange it may sound. Poor people love money just as much as rich people. But for them, crunchy pieces of paper are pleasant - something distant and unattainable. Like a beautiful woman for whom men sigh, realizing that she will never belong to them.

How to save a relative obsessed with the passion of love of money? Pray for him to the Venerable Martyrs Fyodor and Vasily of Pechersk:

Rev. Fathers Theodora and Vasily! Look upon us mercifully and raise us to the heavenly heights of those who are devoted to the earth. You are a mountain in heaven, we are on earth below, removed from you, not only by place, but by our sins and iniquities, but we run to you and cry: instruct us to walk your path, enlighten us and guide us. Your entire holy life has been a mirror of every virtue. Do not stop, saints of God, crying out to the Lord for us. By your intercession, ask our All-Merciful God for the peace of His Church, under the sign of the militant cross, agreement in faith and unity of wisdom, destruction of vanities and schisms, affirmation in good deeds, healing for the sick, consolation for the sad, intercession for the offended, help for the needy. Do not disgrace us, who come to you with faith. All Orthodox Christians, having performed your miracles and beneficent mercies, confess you to be their patrons and intercessors. Reveal your ancient mercies, and those whose father helped us all, do not reject us, their children, who are marching towards you in their footsteps. Standing before your most honorable icon, as you are living beings, we fall down and pray: accept our prayers and offer them to the altar of God’s mercy, so that we may receive grace and timely help for our needs. Strengthen our cowardice and confirm us in faith, so that we undoubtedly hope to receive all the good things from the mercy of the Master through your prayers. Oh, great saints of God! Help all of us who flow to you with faith through your intercession to the Lord, and guide us all in peace and repentance to end our lives and move with hope into the blessed bosom of Abraham, where you now rest joyfully in your labors and struggles, glorifying God with all the saints , in the Trinity glorified, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Prayer for the health of loved ones and relatives

The classic call for help is “Our Father”, “Virgin Mother of God, Rejoice!”. Orthodox Christians also pray for the health of their family and friends, reading strong Orthodox prayers addressed to the great martyrs and saints.

Saint Panteleimon

His name literally translates as “lion-like.” He was a doctor by training; he accepted Christianity in his youth from Elder Ermolai, who, being a priest, taught the boy everything.

Panteleimon became famous for healing the blind and paralyzed. The martyr died at the hands of Emperor Maximian, who adhered to the pagan faith. After torture, which did not break the spirit and faith of Saint Panteleimon, the emperor ordered his execution. After the wars cut off the saint's head, instead of blood, milk flowed from the wound.

Until now, Orthodox believers commemorate Saint Panteleimon and turn to him for help in healing family and friends and protection from enemies.

Gabriel Urgebadze

The Reverend Confessor Gabriel was born in Georgia. Love and interest in God prevailed over all his desires. Living in the Soviet Union, because of his faith, he was imprisoned and then in a mental hospital. Having withstood all the trials, Father Gabriel did not renounce Christ. He even built a church with his own hands in his yard, which is still preserved.

After the death of the holy elder, his relics began to flow myrrh, and the myrrh they released healed all diseases, even cast out demons. Today they rest in the city of Mtskheta in Georgia in the Samtavro Monastery.

The beloved elder helps in healing the soul and body. Everyone who needs spiritual protection and asks for help for family and friends turns to him. In Georgia it was called “The Great Love of the 20th Century.”

How to pray for the salvation of loved ones

Telegram channel @ieshua.org

“Therefore, first of all, I ask you to make prayers, petitions, supplications, thanksgivings for all people, for kings and for all those in authority, so that we may lead a quiet and serene life in all godliness and purity, for this is good and pleasing to God our Savior, who wants all people were saved and came to the knowledge of the truth.” (1 Tim. 2:1-4)

We are told to pray for our unsaved loved ones. Sometimes it is difficult to understand how and what exactly to pray for. I was faced with the same problem, so I did some research to find the best ways to pray for unsaved loved ones. I say “unsaved,” but in fact these things can be prayed for those who are saved but may have fallen away from God for some reason.

It's hard to see someone you love so lost or so far from God, or even doubt the existence of God. You so want to help them, to correct them, but you, of course, understand that this is not in your power. We can “sow the seed” (that is, talk to them without intimidation or pressure and/or show examples from our own lives), and we can pray for them. The rest is up to them. God gave us free will. Jesus Christ is His free gift to us, it is our job to accept it. However, a gift that is forced to be taken is no longer a gift. We are not obliged to accept it. Sometimes we want more for our loved ones than they want for themselves. It's not very pleasant to think about, but you know what... You're in good company. This is how God feels all the time. But everything is not hopeless! Prayers have great power!

“...The fervent prayer of the righteous can accomplish much.” (James 5:16)

I have heard many stories from people, including my pastor, that where they are today is a result of someone praying for them. God will do this work for us, but we must ask Him to do it.

After researching how and what to pray for unsaved loved ones, I came up with a list of items that I began to use. In fact, I wrote a list of things to pray for in my phone notes, and when I open it, I pray the list for my unsaved loved ones. However, you don't have to pray for all of these items always. I do this, but most often I choose a couple of these points for daily prayer (or at other times when someone close to me comes to mind - not necessarily daily).

Here are some practical steps for praying for unsaved loved ones (text in bold is an example prayer):

Pray for God to remove the blindness from their eyes so that their eyes will be opened so they can see. The Bible says that the prince of this world, Satan, has blinded the minds of unbelievers.

“...For those who do not believe, whose minds the god of this world has blinded, so that the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of the invisible God, should not shine for them.” (2 Cor. 4:4)

“...Open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, and through faith in Me they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance with those who are sanctified.” (Acts 26:18)

Lord, remove the blindness from _____'s eyes and open his/her eyes.

Pray that when they are able to see, that the eyes of their hearts will be enlightened and that God will lead them to situations and circumstances in which they will receive the gift of repentance and know the truth.

“[I pray that God] may enlighten the eyes of your heart, that you may know what is the hope of His calling, and what are the riches of His glorious inheritance for the saints.” (Eph. 1:18)

“[The servant of the Lord must] instruct those who oppose him with gentleness, lest God grant them repentance to the knowledge of the truth” (2 Tim. 2:25)

Lord, I pray that when _____'s eyes are open, You will create situations and circumstances that will lead him/her to the truth.

Pray that God will convert and soften their hearts, make them soft and sensitive.

“For the heart of this people is hardened, and their ears are hard of hearing, and they have closed their eyes, lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and lest they be converted, that I may heal them.” (Matt. 13:15)

“And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit will I put within you; And I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.” (Ezek. 36:26)

Lord, I ask You to convert and soften the heart of _____. Put a new spirit into him/her. Take away _____'s stony and stubborn heart and give him/her a new carnal and sensitive one.

Pray that God will call them to Himself and that their hunger and desire for God will burn.

“No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day.” (John 6:44)

“For God is at work in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.” (Phil. 2:13)

Lord, please call _____ to You and give him/her a thirst and hunger for You.

Pray for God to send “workers” along their path. In fact, these are just witnesses who will speak in their lives. I found this article (in English) very useful. I liked how it talked about how “doers” can come in many different ways: bumper stickers, billboards, waiting room magazines, something on the radio or TV, overheard conversations, or people sharing with them in person The Gospel. I like to pray that God would just surround them with all this “about Him” so they can't run away from Him!

“And he said to them: The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; Therefore, pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.” (Luke 10:2)

Lord, please send all kinds of workers on the path of _____. Let him/her see you wherever he/she goes, so much so that he/she cannot escape from You!

Pray that God will put his protection, his hedge (or “thorns”) around them, so that all the wicked influences on him/her will lose interest in him/her and leave.

“Therefore, behold, I will block her path with thorns and surround her with a fence, and she will not find her paths, and will pursue her lovers, but will not overtake them, and will seek them, but will not find them, and will say: “I will go, and I will return to my first husband; for then it was better for me than now." (Hosea 2:6)

Lord, put a fence around _____ so that anyone who is wicked influencing him/her will lose interest and leave.

Pray that any chains that bind them will be broken, any strongholds broken down, and that they will be free from Satan's influence over their mind, will and emotions.

“But they cried to the Lord in their affliction, and He saved them from their troubles; brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and broke their bonds.” (Ps. 107:13-14)

“For the yoke that weighed him down, and the rod that struck him, and the reed of his oppressor, you will break in pieces, as in the day of Midian.” (Isa. 9:4)

Lord, please break the strongholds in the heart and the bonds that bind _____, and free him/her from Satan's influence over his/her mind, will and feelings.

Pray that their minds, hearts and lives will be transformed and renewed.

“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may discern what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” (Rom. 12:2)

Lord, I pray that _____'s mind, heart and life will be transformed and renewed.

Pray that they will be convicted by the Holy Spirit and change their attitude towards sin.

“And He will come and convict the world of sin and righteousness and judgment.” (John 16:8)

Lord, I pray that _____ will be convicted by the Holy Spirit and that he/she will have Your attitude towards sin.

Pray that God's goodness will lead them to complete repentance and that they will turn from their sin.

“Or do you despise the riches of God’s goodness, meekness and long-suffering, not realizing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?” (Rom. 2:4)

Lord, may Your goodness lead _____ to complete repentance and help him/her turn from his/her sins.

I think it's important for you to know... As you begin to pray for your unsaved loved ones, don't be surprised if at first they seem to be acting completely opposite to what you're praying for. They may get worse before they get better. This article helped me when I read that “action causes reaction.” This is a good sign that God is working on them. Keep praying!

As God begins to work on your unsaved loved ones, you will likely see small changes, one step at a time. Sudden changes also happen, but I noticed that they are usually not the norm. In fact, I kind of got angry one day because I prayed and prayed and started complaining to God, asking, “Why isn’t this person changing his life?!” And I heard: “If this person changed his life radically, you still wouldn’t believe it. You wouldn't consider it sincere and real. Lasting and sustainable changes come gradually. You want their changes to last, don’t you?” I was reminded of this verse:

“And the Lord your God will drive out these nations before you little by little; You cannot destroy them quickly, lest the beasts of the field multiply against you.” (Deut. 7:22)

Joyce Meyer's book, Battlefield of the Mind: Winning the Battle in Your Mind, even has a chapter called “Little by little.” She really helped me understand that sometimes progress is slow, and that's okay (at times, that's exactly how it should be). We should celebrate small victories. Focus on the positive and don't get upset. Know that God is working behind the scenes and that with the changes that happen within, it may take a while to see a difference.

“For who can consider this day of little importance, when those seven, the eyes of the Lord, who survey the whole earth, joyfully look at the plumb line in the hands of Zerubbabel?” (Zech. 4:10)

God actually showed me this verse on a different occasion last week, but it applies very well to this occasion as well. It's amazing how the Bible works!

Remember...

“...The fervent prayer of the righteous can accomplish much.” (James 5:16)
