Commentary on one hundred and fifty psalms. Explanation of Psalm 44.

Psalm 44 read:

1 Finally, about those who were betrayed by the son of Kore, to understanding, a song about the beloved

2 My heart will vomit out the word of goodness; I will say that my deeds are to the King: my tongue is the reed of a scribe and a cursive writer. 3 You are more beautiful in kindness than the sons of men; grace has been poured out on Your lips; therefore God bless You forever. 4 Gird Your sword on Your thigh, O Mighty One. 5 By Thy beauty and Thy kindness, and prosper, and reign for the sake of truth, and meekness, and righteousness, and Thy right hand will admirably guide Thee. 6 Your arrows are sharp, Mighty, the people under You will fall into the hearts of the enemies of the kings. 7 Your throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a scepter of righteousness, a scepter of your kingdom. 8 Thou hast loved righteousness and hated iniquity, therefore for the sake of Thy anointing, O God, Thy God is the oil of gladness, even more He is partaker of Thy. 9 Myrrh and stakti and cassia from Your garments, from the burdens of elephants, from them made You glad. 10 Daughters of kings, in Your honor, the Queen appears at Your right hand, adorned with gilded garments. 11 Hear, O daughters, and see, and incline Your ear, and forget Your people and Your father’s house. 12 And the King will desire Your kindness: because of Him is Your Lord, and you will worship Him. 13 And the daughters of Tire with gifts, the riches of the people will pray to Your face. 14 All glory is to the Daughter of the King within, robed in gold and adorned. 15 The maidens will be brought to the King after her, her sincerity will be brought to You. 16 They will be brought in with joy and joy, they will be brought into the temple of the Kings. 17 Instead of your fathers, your sons became: I made you princes throughout all the earth. 18 I will remember Your name in every generation and generation. For this reason people will confess to You forever and ever.

Interpretation of Psalm 44

(1) Finally, about those who are changed into mind by the son of Kore, a song about the beloved . It seems that this psalm also leads to the improvement of human nature and provides benefits to those who intend to live virtuously for this intended purpose. For those who are successful need a teaching about improvement, which is proposed by this psalm, which has the inscription: finally, about the changeable , where it is meant about people, because we, of all rational beings, are the most subject to daily and almost hourly changes and transformations.

We are not identical with ourselves either in body or in spiritual disposition. On the contrary, our body constantly flows and dissipates, is in constant movement and transformation, now growing from small to more, now contracting from perfect to insufficient. For a child who goes to school and is capable of understanding the arts and sciences is not the same thing as a newborn baby. And again, undoubtedly, something else is different with the boy - a growing youth who is already able to take on courageous deeds. And a husband differs from a young man in strength and size of body and fullness of mind. And again, having come to maturity and reached a constant age, little by little begins to feel deprivation; his bodily vigor imperceptibly diminishes, his bodily strength weakens, until, bent by old age, he reaches the last loss of strength.

So, we are changeable, and therefore the psalm with this word wisely makes an allusion to us, humans. For Angels do not tolerate change. There is neither a child, nor a youth, nor an old man among them, but in whatever state they were created at the beginning, in that they remain, and their composition remains pure and unchangeable. And we change in the body, as has already been said, and also in the soul and in the inner man, changing our thoughts along with the objects that constantly meet us. And we are alone when we are in good spirits, when everything in life is going well for us, while others are in difficult circumstances, when we encounter something contrary to our wishes. We change from anger, taking on some kind of bestial appearance; we also change from lust, becoming bestial through a voluptuous life. Misogynistic horses were created , inflamed with passion for their neighbor’s wife (cf. Jer. 5:8). The treacherous one is likened to a fox , like Herod (see: Luke 13:32). And the shameless one is called a dog, like Nabal of Carmel [2].

Do you see how varied and varied our change is? Marvel at the One who so decently applied this name to us! Therefore, it seems to me, one of the interpreters [3] well and successfully expressed the same idea with a different name, instead of: about changeables , saying: about lilies . He considered it fitting to apply the rapid withering of flowers to the frailty of human nature.

But since the word is placed in the future tense, for it is said: about those who will change, as if this change will happen to us subsequently, let us see if it does not point us to the thought of the Resurrection, in which a change will be given to us, and a change into a state best and spiritual? For it is said: It is sown into corruption and raised into incorruption (1 Cor. 15:42). Then the entire sensual creation will change along with us. For the heavens will promise like a robe, and God will twist them like a garment, and they will change (see: Ps. 101:27). Then, according to the word of Isaiah, the sun will become seven times larger than itself, and the moon will be as big as the sun today (see: Is. 30:26).

Since the words of God are not written for everyone, but only for those who have ears according to the inner man, the Prophet wrote: about those who change , as I think, about those who take care of themselves and, through exercise in piety, continually succeed more and more . For this is the most beautiful change that the right hand of the Most High gives us. Blessed David was also aware of such a change in himself when, having tasted the benefits of virtue, he stretched forward. Because what does he say? And now I have begun: this is the betrayal of the right hand of the Most High (Ps. 76:11).

Therefore, for someone who succeeds in virtue, there is no moment in which he does not change. For it is said: When the child was born, like a child, he said, “Like a child, he thought in wisdom, like a child, he thought; and when he was a man, he rejected the child” (1 Cor. 13:11). And again, having become a man, he did not stop his activity, but, forgetting the back, but reaching out to the front, to the intentional flow, to the honor of the highest calling (cf. Phil. 3: 13-14). Therefore, this is also a change, when the inner man is renewed from day to day.

Since the Prophet wants to tell us about the Beloved , Who took upon Himself the economy of the incarnation for us, worthy of such mercy, he says that this song was given by the son of Kore . For this is a song, not a psalm, and therefore was conveyed in one voice and only in harmonious singing, without accompaniment by the sounds of an organ. The song is about the Beloved . And shall you interpret which Beloved the word means? Or do you know this even before my words, remembering the voice mentioned in the Gospel: This is My Beloved Son, in Him I am well pleased: Hear Him (Matthew 17:5)? He is loved by the Father as the Only Begotten, loved by all creation as a humane Father and a good Representative. And the beloved and the good are one and the same in their essence. Therefore, some have well defined, calling what everyone desires good.

But not everyone can achieve the perfection of love and know the truly Beloved, but only the one who has already put off the old man, which is corrupted by deceitful lusts (Eph. 4:22), and has put on the new man, renewed in mind in the image of the Creator (Col. 3, 22). 10). He who loves money, is inflamed by corruptible physical beauty, prefers real glory, having expended the power of love on things he should not have become blind to the contemplation of the truly Beloved. Therefore it is said: Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind (Mark 12:30).

The word to all does not allow love to be divided into other objects. For as much love as you spend on earthly objects, you will necessarily lack so much as a whole. Therefore, few people are called friends of God, like Moses, about whom it is written that he is a friend of God (see: Ex. 33, 11), and like John. For it is said: The friend of the Bridegrooms, standing... rejoices with joy (John 3:29), that is, whoever has firm and unshakable love for Christ is worthy of His friendship. Therefore, the Lord says to the disciples who have already reached perfection: I say that you are not servants, but friends, for a servant does not know what his Lord is doing (cf. John 15:15). So, it is possible for the perfect to know the truly Beloved. And indeed, only saints are friends of God and friends of each other, but every vicious and ignorant person is not a friend, because the benefits of friendship are not compatible with a bad disposition of the heart. For evil is opposed not only to good, but also to itself.

But let us begin to interpret the prophetic words.

(2) My heart will burp out the word good . Others believed that this was said on behalf of the Father about the Word, which was in the beginning with the Father and which, they say, the Father brought out, as it were, from the heart, from the very womb; and from a good heart came the Word good . But it seems to me that these words refer to a prophetic person, because subsequent words do not justify this interpretation about the Father. The Father could not say about His tongue: My tongue is the reed of a scribe . (3) He is more beautiful in kindness than the sons of men . Because he has superior beauty, not in comparison with people.

And further he says: (8) Therefore, for the sake of the anointing of You, O God, Your God, with the oil of joy . He did not say: Your God anointed He anointed You , from which it is clear that there is another person speaking. Who is this person if not the Prophet, who felt the action of the Holy Spirit on him? He says: My heart will burp out the word good . Belching is internal air that rises upward from dissolved bubbles during the digestion of food; and nourished with the living bread that came down from heaven and gives life to the world, filled with every word that comes from the mouth of God, that is, according to the usual allegory in Scripture, the soul, nourished with sacred teachings, gives belching in accordance with food. And since the food was verbal and good, the Prophet regurgitates the word good . A good man wears out the good of his heart (Matthew 12:35).

Let us also seek food in the word to satisfy our souls (for it is said: the righteous eater will satisfy his soul - Proverbs 13:26), so that, in accordance with what has nourished us, we may not pronounce just any word, but a good word . An evil man, filled with ungodly teachings, regurgitates evil words from his heart. Do you not see what the mouths of heretics spit out? Truly, something disgusting and stinking, revealing how strong and deep the illness of these unfortunates is! For the wicked man wears out the of his heart (cf. Luke 6:45). Therefore, let us scratch your ears (cf. 2 Tim. 4:3), do not choose for yourself such teachers as can cause disease in your insides and cause you to spew out evil words, for which you will be condemned on the day of judgment. For it is said: By your words you will be justified and by your words you will be condemned (Matthew 12:37).

I say my deeds are the Queen . And this saying, of course, leads us to the thought of a prophetic person. I say my deeds are the King - this means: I confess before the Judge and by revealing my own deeds I precede the Accuser. For we have accepted this commandment: Speak your iniquity first, that you may be justified (Isa. 43:26). My tongue is a scribe's cane . Just as a reed is an instrument of writing, when an experienced hand moves it to outline what is being written, so the tongue of a righteous person, when moved by the Holy Spirit, immersed not in ink, but in the Spirit of the Living God, writes the words of Eternal Life on the hearts of believers. Therefore, the Holy Spirit is a scribe, because he is wise and teaches everyone, and a cursive writer , because the movement of thought is quick. But the Spirit writes in us thoughts, not on tablets of stone, but on tablets of the heart of flesh (2 Cor. 3:3). And according to the breadth of the heart, the Spirit writes on hearts more or less, according to the preliminary purity, writes either clearly or invisibly for everyone. By the speed of what is being written, the entire universe is already filled with the gospel.

It seems to me that the following words should be taken as the beginning of a special speech and not connected with the previous ones, but attached to the subsequent ones. For the words: red with kindness , as I think, were spoken to the Lord through the speaker’s address.

(3) More beautiful in kindness than the sons of men, grace was poured out on Your lips . Aquila and Symmachus lead us to this idea. The first says: “You are adorned with beauty more than the sons of men”; and Symmachus: “You are more beautiful in beauty than the sons of men.” Therefore, red kindness , having entered into His Divinity, because he does not sing about the beauty of His flesh. For we have seen Him, and not in appearance, nor in kindness: but His appearance is dishonorable, more debased than all the sons of men (Isa. 53:2-3). From this it is clear that the Prophet, contemplating the luminosity of the Lord and embraced by its radiance, spiritually wounded by this kindness, was moved by divine love for mental beauty. And when it appears to the human soul, then everything hitherto loved will turn out to be vile and despicable. Therefore, when Paul saw the red one with kindness, he imputed all his knowledge, so that he might gain Christ (cf. Phil. 3:8).

And although those who are alien to the word of truth call the preaching of the Gospel foolishness, destroying it for the simplicity of speech in Scripture, yet we who boast in the cross of Christ, which was revealed by the Spirit, which was given to us from God... are not taught in the wisdom of men (1 Cor. 2:12-13 ), we know that in the teaching about Christ a wealth of grace was poured out on us from God. Therefore, in a short time, the sermon flowed around almost the entire universe, for abundant and generous grace was poured out on the preachers of the Gospel, whom the Scripture called the mouth of Christ. Therefore, the preaching of the Gospel in its utterances, despised by others, contains much that is convincing and attracts to salvation. And every soul is overcome by immutable dogmas, being confirmed by grace in unshakable faith in Christ. This is why the Apostle says: To whom have we received grace and apostleship in the obedience of faith (Rom. 1:5). And one more thing: I have labored more than all of them: not I, but the grace of God which is with me (1 Cor. 15:10).

Grace was poured out on Your lips: for this sake God bless You forever . It is written in the Gospel that I marveled at the words of grace that proceeded from His mouth (Luke 4:22). Therefore, the psalm, in order to more clearly present the abundance of grace in the words of our Lord, expressively says: grace is poured out on Your lips . According to the inexhaustibility of grace in the word bless you , it is said, God forever . It is obvious that this should apply to humanity, since it advances in wisdom and age and grace (Luke 2:52). Regarding humanity alone, we understand that grace was given to Him as a reward for His valor.

Something similar to this is expressed in the words: (8) Thou hast loved righteousness, and thou hast hated iniquity: therefore for the anointing of Thee, O God, Thy God is more than a partaker of Thy with the oil of joy . Close to this is what Paul wrote to the Philippians: He humbled himself, becoming obedient even to the point of death, even death on the cross . In the same way God exalted Him (2:8-9). From this it is clear that this is said about the Savior as a person. Or, since the Church is the Body of the Lord and the Lord is the Head of the Church, and as ministers of the heavenly word, according to what was said above, they are the mouth of Christ (for example, Paul had Christ speaking within himself - see: 2 Cor. 13: 3 - and the same has everyone who is like Paul in virtue), and all of us believers, each in and of himself, constitute other members of the body of Christ, then it will not be a sin for anyone who attributes the blessing given to the Church to the Lord Himself. Therefore, the words: God bless You , mean: God has filled Your members and Your Body with His blessings forever, that is, to infinity.

(4) Gird Thy sword upon Thy thigh, O Mighty One , (5) Thy Beauty and Thy kindness . We think that this in a figurative sense refers to the living Word of God, so that It is united with the flesh, to the Word, which is effective and sharper than any two-edged sword, and which even penetrates to the division of soul and spirit, members and brains, and judges by thought and the thoughts of the heart (Heb. 4:12). For the thigh is a symbol of the generative force. It is said: these are the souls that came forth from the loins of Jacob (cf. Gen. 46:26).

Therefore, our Lord Jesus Christ, just as there is life, way, bread, vine, true light and is called by many other names, so there is a sword that cuts off the passionate part of the soul and kills lustful movements. Then, since God the Word had to enter into union with the weakness of the flesh, it is very opportunely added: Stronger . For this is the greatest proof of the power that God could be in human nature. The power of the Word of God is not only proven by the creation of heaven, earth, sea, air, the creation of the greatest elements, and everything that we can imagine in the worldly and underworld, but also by the economy of incarnation and condescension towards humiliated and weak humanity.

By Your beauty and Your kindness . Beauty is different from goodness. What is called beautiful is something that has reached its full maturity in due time. Thus, the wheat is beautiful when it is ripe for harvest. The fruit of the grape is beautiful when, over the course of a year, having digested the juices within itself, it has reached perfection and become fit for enjoyment. And kindness is harmony in the constitution of the limbs, which produces attractiveness. Gird Thy sword upon Thy thigh, O Mighty One, with Thy beauty , that is, in the fulfillment of times, and with Thy goodness , that is, with the contemplated and intelligible Deity. For It really is goodness , exceeding all human understanding and all human powers and contemplated by one mind. His disciples, to whom He privately resolved parables, knew kindness saw kindness on the mountain, they saw His kindness , which was brighter than the light of the sun, and they were honored to see with their own eyes the foreshadowing of His glorious coming.

And Nalyatsy, and have time, and reign . That is, having begun your care for people through incarnation, make this care strong, continuous and unrelenting. This will pave the way and bring success to the preaching and conquer everyone to Your Kingdom. Let it not surprise us that it is said imperatively: have time , according to the custom of Scripture, which always expresses desires in this way. Thy will be done , instead of “be.” Thy kingdom come , instead of “come.”

For the sake of truth and meekness and righteousness: and Your right hand will guide You wonderfully . Again the word uses a similar turn of phrase as before, as if this, that is, to have time and reign, is accepted by the Lord as a reward for truth and meekness and righteousness. This must be understood this way: since everything among people has been turned into lies, then in order to sow the truth, reign over people over whom sin reigns, for You are the Truth. For the sake of meekness - so that by Your example everyone will be led to justice and goodness. That is why the Lord said: Learn from Me, for I am meek and lowly in heart (Matthew 11:29). He presented proof of meekness in His deeds: the one who was reproached remained silent, the one who was struck, he endured. And Your right hand will guide You wonderfully ; not a pillar of cloud, not a fiery illumination, but Your own right hand will be Your guide.

(6) Thy arrows are more subtle, stronger . The sophisticated arrows of the Strong One are well-aimed words that, reaching the hearts of listeners, amaze and wound sensitive souls. For it is said: The words of the wise are like the bones of an ox (Eccl. 12:11). Therefore, the psalmist, once praying for deliverance from modern insidious people, asks the sophisticated arrows of the Strong One the tongue of flattery . But he also asks for desert coals (cf. Ps. 119:3, 4), so that for those who, due to the hardening of their hearts, are not touched by the arrows of the word, torment will be prepared for them, which he calls desert coals . For those who have deprived themselves of God, the preparation of desert coals is necessary.

Now Your arrows are sharp . These arrows hurt souls who have accepted faith and are melted by strong love for God. They speak like a bride: I am wounded by love (Song 2:5). The inscrutable and ineffable goodness of the Word is the beauty of wisdom and the sign of God in His image. Blessed therefore are the beholders of true kindness. As if attached to her by love and igniting in themselves a heavenly and blissful love, they forget their relatives and friends, forget their home and property, do not even remember the bodily need to eat and drink, but are devoted to one and pure love.

By sophisticated arrows you can also understand those sent to sow the Gospel throughout the entire universe; in their sophistication they shone with deeds of truth and imperceptibly penetrated the souls of those taught. These arrows, sent everywhere, prepared the nations for the fact that they fell at the feet of Christ. But it seems to me that with greater consistency of thoughts, speech will be restored through the rearrangement of words, so that the following meaning will come out: come and succeed, and reign, and Your right hand will guide You wonderfully, and people will fall under You , because Your arrows are sharpened in the hearts of the enemy of the Kings . Not a single God-fighter, arrogant or proud, falls on his face before God, but those who have accepted the obedience of faith fall. The arrows that fell into the hearts of the former enemies of the Tsars draw them to the desire for truth, draw them to the Lord, so that those who were enemies of God would be reconciled with Him through teaching.

(7) Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a scepter of righteousness, a scepter of thy kingdom . (8) Thou hast loved righteousness, and thou hast hated iniquity: therefore for the anointing of Thee, O God, Thy God is more than a partaker of Thy with the oil of joy . Since the Prophet has already spoken a lot, addressing humanity in Christ, he now raises his word to the height of the glory of the Only Begotten. Your Throne, O God , he says, is for ever and ever , that is, Your Kingdom is beyond the ages and precedes every thought. And very opportunely, after the conquest of the nations, the Prophet sings of the splendor of the Kingdom of God. The rod of righteousness, the rod of Your kingdom . For this reason, the Prophet gave Him His own name, clearly calling Him God: Thy throne, O God . The rod of God is a rod of admonition. But admonishing, he leads the Right Courts, and not those who deviate from the truth. Therefore His kingdom the rod of righteousness . If His sons forsake My law and do not walk in My destinies... I will visit them with the rod of iniquity (Ps. 88:31-33). Do you see the Righteous Judgment of God? The rod is not used on everyone, but only on sinners. But this rod is also called a rod of consolation, for it is said: Thy rod and Thy club, they comfort me (Ps. 23:4). It is also called the rod of contrition: I have forsaken with a rod of iron, as I have crushed the vessels of the wicked (Ps. 2:9). But earthy and mortal things are broken for the good of the flock, since they are given over to the destruction of the flesh, so that the spirit may be saved (1 Cor. 5:5).

For the sake of Thy anointing, O God, Thy God is more than Thy partaker of the oil of joy . Since the representative anointing was supposed to indicate that the bishops and kings themselves also served as a prototype, the flesh of the Lord was anointed with the true anointing, the descent on it of the Holy Spirit, which is called the oil of joy . The Lord is anointed more than His partakers , that is, more than all the people who have a part with Christ. For they are given some private communion of the Spirit: but the Holy Spirit descended on the Son of God, as John says, to abide on Him (John 1:32). The Spirit is beautifully called the oil of joy . For one of the fruits brought back by the Holy Spirit is joy.

Since the word about the Savior in the Prophet concerns both the Divine nature and the economy of incarnation, then again, turning his gaze to the humanity of God, he says: Thou hast loved righteousness, and thou hast hated lawlessness , thereby wanting to say: other people, through labor, deeds, and attentiveness, often achieve disposition towards good and aversion from evil, and in You there is a natural affinity with good and alienation from lawlessness. But if we want, it is not difficult for us to acquire love for truth and hatred for lawlessness. For for the benefit of the rational soul God has given all abilities, both the ability to love and the ability to hate, so that, guided by reason, we would love virtue and hate vice. There are times when it is commendable to show hatred. Have not those who hated Thee, O Lord, hated Thy enemies ? I hated with complete hatred (Ps. 138:21-22).

(9) Myrrh, and stakti, and casia from Your garments, from the weights of elephants, of which you made You glad . (10) Daughters of kings in Thy honor . The prophetic word, descending in order and having previously described the affairs of the economy, with the illumination of the Spirit, revealing the hidden to the Prophet, finally reaches suffering. It is said: myrrh, and stakti, and casia from Your garments . The Evangelist John teaches us that myrrh is a symbol of burial, saying that Joseph of Arimathea used myrrh and aloe during burial (see: John 19: 39-40). And stacti is the finest form of myrrh. When this fragrant substance is squeezed out, what is liquid in it is separated in stacti, and what remains thick is called myrrh.

Therefore, the fragrance of Christ smells like myrrh, because of His suffering and like stacti, because He did not remain motionless and inactive for three days and three nights, but descended into hell for the sake of the economy of the Resurrection, in order to fulfill everything that was due to Him. . It smells fragrant with cassia, because casia is a very thin and fragrant bark that envelops a tree trunk. And one might think that the prophetic word in the name of Cassia thoughtfully and wisely pointed out to us the suffering on the cross, perceived as a benefit to all creation. Therefore, you see myrrh because of burial, stacti because of the descent into hell (for every drop of it tends downward), and cassia because of the economy accomplished by the flesh on the cross.

For this reason the Prophet says: The daughter of kings will rejoice in Your honor . But what kind of daughters of kings are these, if not noble, great and royal souls? Having known Christ by His descent to humanity, they rejoiced Him in His honor , in true faith and perfect love, glorifying His Divinity. About these fragrances, that is, about the inflowing word and about the arrangement of teachings, the Prophet says that they were not scanty on the vestments of Christ, but were spread throughout all the buildings. For by weights he means huge houses, and the fact that they were built of ivory, as I think, shows the richness of Christ’s love for the world.

The queen appears at Your right hand, adorned in gilded vestments . The Prophet already speaks of the Church, about which we learn from the Song of Songs (cf.: 6, 8), that there is one perfect dove of Christ, which receives to the right hand of Christ those who have become famous for their good deeds, distinguishing them from unworthy people, as a shepherd distinguishes sheep from goats.

So, the queen stands, that is, the soul united with the Bridegroom by the Word, not possessed by sin, but made a partaker of the Kingdom of Christ, stands at the right hand of the Savior in gilded robes, that is, magnificently and sacredly adorning herself with spiritual teachings, woven and overspread. Since dogmas are not of one kind, but are different and diverse, encompassing natural, moral and mysterious teachings, the psalm says that the bride’s robe is speckled.

(11) Hear, O daughter, and see, and incline your ear, and forget your people and your father’s house . (12) And the King will desire your kindness: because of Him is your Lord, and they will worship Him . Calls the Church to hear and fulfill what is commanded, and, calling her a daughter, by this name introduces her into a relationship with Himself, as if out of love, assigning her the right to be a child. Hear, daughters, and see . The word see teaches her to have a mind trained to contemplate. Observe creation and, taking advantage of the visible order in it, ascend in this way to the contemplation of the Creator. Then, humbling her high neck of pride, he says: incline your ear . Do not resort to pagan fictions, but accept the humble word of the gospel teaching. Incline your ear to the instructions taught therein, so that you may forget those bad customs and fatherly teachings. Therefore forget your people and your father's house . For everyone who commits sin is of the devil (1 John 3:8).

Reject the teachings of demons, forget the sacrifices, the nightly rejoicings, the fables that incite fornication and all uncleanness. For this reason I called you My daughter, so that you would hate your former father, who begat you to destruction. If by oblivion you erase from yourself the stains of evil teachings, then, having regained your own beauty, you will find yourself desired by the Bridegroom and the King. Behind You is your Lord, and they will worship Him . With the words: He is your Lord , the Prophet shows the need for obedience. All creatures will worship Him. For in the name of Jesus Christ every knee will bow, those in heaven and on earth and under the earth (Phil. 2:10).

(13) And the daughters of Tire with gifts: rich people will pray to your face . It seems that in the Canaanite country idolatry was indulged in with particular zeal. And the main city of Canaanite is Tire. Therefore, the prophetic word, inclining the Church to obedience, says that the daughters of Tirov will one day come with gifts. And rich people will bow with gifts . He did not say: they will worship you with gifts , but to your face . For it is not the Church that accepts worship, but the head of the Church is Christ, Whom the Scripture calls Person.

(14) All the glory of the Tsar’s daughter is inside: her garments are covered with gold and speckled . (15) Virgins will be brought to the King after her . Since she was cleansed from the wickedness of ancient teachings, obeying the instruction, forgetting her people and her father’s house , the Holy Spirit describes her qualities. And since he sees her hidden purity, he says: all the glory of the Tsar’s Daughter , that is, the bride of Christ, who through sonhood has already become the daughter of the Tsar, inside . The psalm urges us to enter into the inner secrets of the glory of the Church, because the beauty of the bride is internal. For whoever adorns himself for the Father, who sees in secret (cf. Matt. 6:4), and prays, and does everything not for show to people, but just to be visible to the only God, then has all the glory within , just like the daughter of the Tsar . That's why the golden robes with which she is dressed and covered are also on the inside .

Do not look for anything in outer gold or in the adornment of the body, but imagine a garment worthy to adorn one created in the image of the Creator, as the Apostle says: Having put off the old man... and putting on the new, being renewed in mind after the image of the Creator (Col. 3:9-10 ). And whoever has put on the womb of generosity, kindness, humility, meekness and long-suffering (Col. 3:12), is clothed inwardly, adorned according to the inner man. And Paul advises to be clothed (cf. Rom. 13:14), not according to the outward man, but so that our mind is covered with the remembrance of God. And I think that then the fabric of spiritual clothing is made when deeds in accordance with it are added to the edifying word. Just as, by weaving the weft into the warp, they weave clothing for the body, so when the preceding word is followed by deeds in accordance with it, a splendid garment is thus prepared for the soul, which has a completely virtuous life in both word and deed.

And cassocks are hung on clothes, and they should also be understood in a spiritual sense, which is why they are called golden. Since the word is broader than the deed, it constitutes, as it were, some kind of cassocks that are lowered down from the fabric of activity. The bride of the Lord is followed by some souls who have not accepted the seeds of alien teaching, and they will be brought to the King, accompanying the bride. Let those who have taken a vow of virginity to the Lord hear that virgins will be brought to the Tsar, but virgins who are close to the Church follow her, and do not deviate from Church deanery!

(16) The virgins will be brought in with joy and joy and will be led into the temple of the Kings . Not those who, under compulsion, observed virginity, not those who, out of sorrow or need, entered into an honest life, but who in joy and joy enjoy such progress, those will be brought to the King, and will not be brought into some ordinary place, but into the temple. Tsarev . For these sacred vessels, which have not been defiled by human use, will be brought into the Holy of Holies, and they will be given the right to have access to the sanctuary itself, which will not be trampled upon by unclean feet. And how important it is to be brought into the temple of the Kings , the Prophet shows when he prays for himself and says: I have asked one thing of the Lord, this I will require: that I may live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, that I may behold the beauty of the Lord and visit His holy temple (Ps. 26, 4).

(17) Instead of your fathers there were your sons: I made you princes throughout all the earth . Since people and the father’s house were commanded above, now as a reward for obedience the father receives sons instead , and sons adorned with such virtues that they are appointed princes throughout the entire earth . Who are these sons of the Tsar? These are the sons of the Gospel who have taken possession of the whole earth. For it is said: Their message went out into all the earth (Rom. 10:18). And they will sit on the double throne, judging the foolish tribes of Israel (Matthew 19:28).

And if by the fathers of the bride one means the patriarchs, then even in this case we are not talking about the Apostles. For instead of the patriarchs, sons were born to her in Christ, doing the deeds of Abraham, who are recognized as equal in honor to the patriarchs, because they performed deeds similar to them, for which the fathers were awarded great honors. The saints are the princes of the whole earth by nature with virtue, since virtue by its very essence gives primacy, as Jacob was given power over Esau. For it is said: Be a master to your brother (Gen. 27, 29). Therefore, those who have become equal to their fathers and through the asceticism of virtue have acquired superiority over everyone, are the sons of the bride of Christ and are appointed princes throughout the whole earth . Look how great the power of the Queen is - this is the power to ordain princes throughout the entire earth.

(18) I will remember Your name in every generation and generation: for this reason people will confess to You forever and ever . In conclusion, a speech is offered as if on behalf of the Church itself: I will remember Your name in every generation and generation . What kind of commemoration of the Church is this? This is the confession of nations.

Psalm 44 in Russian:

1 To the director of the choir. On the Shoshan musical instrument. Teaching. Sons of Korah. Song of love.

2 Good words have poured out from my heart; I say: my song is about the King; my tongue is a cursive cane.

3 You are more beautiful than the sons of men; grace poured out from Your mouth; Therefore God has blessed You forever.

4 Gird Your sword upon Your thigh, O Mighty One, with Your glory and Your beauty,

5 And in this adorning of Thy make haste, sit on the chariot for the sake of truth and meekness and righteousness, and Thy right hand will show Thee wondrous works.

6 Thy arrows are sharp, [Mighty One], - the nations will fall before Thee, - they are in the heart of the enemies of the King.

7 Your throne, O God, endures forever; the scepter of righteousness is the scepter of your kingdom.

8 You have loved righteousness and hated iniquity; therefore, O God, Your God has anointed You with the oil of joy more than Your fellows.

9 All Your garments are like myrrh and scarlet and cassia; from the palaces of ivory they rejoice Thee.

10 The daughters of kings are among those honored by You; the queen stood at Your right hand in Ophir gold.

11 Hear, daughter, and see, and incline your ear, and forget your people and your father’s house.

12 And the King will desire your beauty; for He is your Lord, and you shall worship Him.

13 And the daughter of Tyre with gifts, and the richest of the people, will pray before thy face.

14 All the glory of the King's daughter is within; her clothes are embroidered with gold;

15 in speckled clothes she is led to the King; after her the maidens, her friends, are led to you,

16 are brought in with joy and rejoicing and enter the palace of the King.

17 Instead of Your fathers, Your sons will be; You will make them princes throughout the whole earth.

18 I will make Your name memorable to generation and generation; Therefore the nations will praise You forever and ever.

44:1 To the head of the choir. On the [musical instrument] Shoshan. Teaching. Sons of Korah. Song of love.

Again the teaching of God through the sons of Korah. About the love of Christ for his future queen (bride) A spiritual and prophetic song.

44:2 A good word poured out from my heart; I say: my song is about the King; my tongue is a cursive cane.

A loving heart prompts to sing a song of love for the king, it is composed of good words, of words expressing the feelings of the lover, they pour out so abundantly from the depths of the heart that the tongue has to manage to pronounce them as quickly as a cursive writer writes the speech of kings.

44:3 You are more beautiful than the sons of men; grace poured out from Your mouth; Therefore God has blessed You forever.

The singer reports that Christ will be the most wonderful of all the sons of men, God will bless him forever, for the word of grace (hope for a happy eternal world, for a “favorable summer”) for humanity will come precisely from the lips of Christ.

44:4,5 Gird Thy sword upon Thy thigh, O Mighty One, with Thy glory and Thy beauty, 5 and in this Thy adorning make haste, sit on the chariot for the sake of truth and meekness and righteousness, and Thy right hand will show Thee wondrous deeds.

The singer knows that Christ will sit on the heavenly chariot in order to establish the word of God's truth on earth, meekness and obedience to God, girding his loins with the sword of the spirit and doing wondrous things on earth from the moment of his first coming to Earth, spiritually reviving it through the Christian congregation .

44:6,7 Your arrows are sharp; - the nations will fall before You - they are in the heart of the King's enemies. 7 Your throne, O God, endures forever; the scepter of righteousness is the scepter of your kingdom.

All the enemies of God on earth will fall before the majesty of Christ in royal glory when he releases the “arrows” at Armageddon;
and his throne will stand forever because the truth of God is the only rod for his reign (those who try to rule by other means will not stand). Here Christ is called God, and, in fact, there is nothing surprising in this: for humanity, this powerful ruler will become God in the sense of a patron for a whole 1000 years, after which he himself will submit to God the Almighty - 1 Cor. 15:28. Along the way: why Jehovah's Witnesses should not be afraid to pronounce the word “god” in relation to Christ - you can find out here 44 : 8 You loved righteousness and hated iniquity, therefore, O God, Your God has anointed You with the oil of joy more than Your fellows.
(see also Heb. 1:9) The singer explains that God the Almighty Jehovah is the God of Christ.
It was precisely because He anointed Christ with the oil of joy more than all those who participated in the fulfillment of Jehovah’s intentions, that Christ loved His righteousness and hated iniquity. What does "oil of joy" mean? Here we are not talking about the anointing of Jesus Christ with the holy spirit, but about the blessing with a special joy that exceeds the joy of the rest of Christ’s partners in relation to the throne of David: God preferred him to all the previous kings (partners) of the throne of David reigning over the people of God; it is Jesus Christ who will be the descendant of David who is to sit on the throne as king of God’s people—forever.
44 : 9 All Thy garments are like myrrh, and scarlet, and cassia; from the palaces of ivory they rejoice Thee.

All the robes of the heavenly bridegroom, the king over the Earth, will be of the highest quality and anointed with the best aromas, as befits a king.
44:10 those honored by You
; Following the example of Solomon's Song of Love, it is shown here that King Christ is figuratively surrounded by many worthy “girls.” In heaven they can be represented by a society of holy celestials, angels. However, Jesus has already chosen his bride, so let others not (figuratively) get their hopes up about this eligible bachelor. His bride was not the daughter of heaven, but the “daughter” of the earth, as it turns out from Scripture: the redeemed from the Earth will become co-rulers of Christ (Rev. 14: 1,3)

the queen stood at Your right hand in Ophir gold.

The wife of the King of the entire universe, Jehovah, is figuratively described (the bride of Christ will be brought to him later, see 15).
The “Wife” of Jehovah (Jerusalem on High) is represented in heaven by all the spiritual assistants of the Almighty, His heavenly organization (Rev. 4, Gal. 4:26). They are dressed in the most expensive clothes, as befits the Queen - the “mother” of the Groom. The “Queen” at the right hand of Christ, she will introduce the Groom to the Bride. 44 : 11,12 Hear, daughter, and see, and incline your ear, and forget your people and your father's house.
Here they turn to the bride of Christ and ask her to forget where she came from: a wife is supposed to live in her husband’s house, so the bride of Christ, redeemed from Earth, after marriage is supposed to live in heaven (Rev. 14: 1,3)
12 And she will desire King of your beauty;
for He is your Lord, and you shall worship Him. King Jesus Christ will desire to be with his beautiful assistant and will be proud of her beauty.
Here the couple entering into marriage is figuratively shown, the bride of Christ is the future heavenly co-rulers of Christ, Rev. 20:6) 44:13 gifts , and the richest of the people will plead before Your face.
Tire in ancient times was a prosperous city, committing fornication through trade with pagan kings (Isa. 23:17,18);
Jesus mentioned him in connection with his part in the millennium of Christ (Matt. 11:22 ).
The fate of the resurrected inhabitants of this city will be in the hands of the co-rulers of Christ, which is why it is said about them that they will plead “the face of the queen of Christ
44 : 14 All the glory of the daughter of the King is within;
her clothes are embroidered with gold; Although the bride’s clothes are embroidered with gold, however, the main beauty of Christ’s wife is not external, but internal: King Christ cannot be content with external beauties, for he is interested in the spirit of his queen, his assistant, not the Jew who is such in the flesh, but the one who is in spirit - God's, inwardly, and not outwardly, the queen is beautiful for Christ.

44:15,16 in speckled clothes she is led to the King;

One day there will come a moment in the history of mankind when King Christ will wait for his queen in his royal palaces in heaven, enter into a “marriage union” with her, and as a result, a new life will begin for all inhabitants of the Earth.
(see the parable of the wedding feast) after her the virgins, her friends, are led to You, 16 they are brought with joy and rejoicing, they enter the palace of the King.
When will the bridesmaids be brought to the palace of King Jesus Christ? To become bridesmaids, all the virgins resurrected on earth after Armageddon will need to work on themselves for a whole thousand years and grow into the spiritual age of Christ and his “Queen.” Only after the last test by the devil, when all the inhabitants who remain alive for eternity have achieved holiness and become a spiritual courtyard, will the true friends of the heavenly Queen - the daughters of Jehovah - be able to enter the palace of King Jesus, or the courtyard of the temple of Jehovah. (the word “chamber” l/ky[h is also translated “inner room in the temple”)

44:17 Instead of Your fathers, Your sons will be; You will make them princes throughout the whole earth.

A prophetic verse that at first King Christ was represented on earth by his forefathers - the patriarchs, David and Solomon. But after marrying his “queen” in heaven (Rev. 19:7,8), the sons born from this marriage of Christ and his heavenly queen will be appointed princes on Earth from Christ. Who are they?

This means that in the Millennium, those who will be born from the activities of this heavenly government union of King Christ and his assistants, ruling over the earth in the Millennium, will be appointed princes throughout the entire earth. That is, some inhabitants of the earth during the 1000th anniversary period will be honored to become princes according to the vision of Christ. And it is not at all necessary that these are certainly the current spiritual leaders, who may be planning to reign in the new world, for the first with God are the last. And vice versa. As a result of skilful heavenly rule over the earth during the thousand-year reign, all nations will glorify the spiritual (heavenly) Jerusalem, the city of King Christ, with a righteous lifestyle. 44:18 memorable to generation and generation; Therefore the nations will praise You forever and ever.

The name of Christ will be remembered throughout all eternity for all peoples of the earth.

The inscription “on the musical instrument Shoshan” (in the shape of a lily) indicates the type of musical instrument on which the psalm should be performed: “teaching” indicates the nature of the content: the psalm represents the author’s reflection on the event described in the psalm; “sons of Korah” - to writers from the surname Korah, who served as Levites at the Temple of Jerusalem. “Song of Love” - the psalm is an expression of the writer’s feelings of love for the subject of the song.

To whom is the psalm dedicated, and from here, and when was it written, we find a clear answer to these questions in the features with which the person to whom the psalm is dedicated is depicted here. This person is the king (2 v.); he surpassed all people in his virtues and especially in his intelligence (3); His reign is a reign to establish peace, truth, but not for military exploits, although he has a strong army (5–7); he lives in luxurious palaces (9) and the kings and princes of the nations worship him together with the queen (13). All of the indicated features of the glorified king are applicable exactly to Solomon at the beginning of his reign, when he lived in luxurious palaces, amazed everyone with his wisdom and splendor, strove to strengthen peace and truth in his state, and received signs of extraordinary respect and surprise for him from all peoples.

The reason for writing the psalm can be considered the marriage of Solomon with the daughter of the Pharaoh of Egypt. There are indications of this in v. 10–11, where the writer, addressing the queen, advises her to forget her nation and her parents, which would be unnecessary if the queen were Jewish.

I sing praises to the king (2). You are the most beautiful of all the sons of men, arm yourself with Your glory and beauty, and reign to establish the truth (3-5). All enemies will fall before You, You are the king of righteousness and You will be sung from Your palaces (6-9). You, queen, renounce your family and homeland: then the king will especially love you, and all the noble people will come to worship you (10-13). All the glory of the queen lies in her inner virtues. She, and after her the other daughters of the kings, goes to the king in his palace (14–16). Your sons will be princes throughout all the earth, and Your name will be glorified forever (17-18).

1. To the head of the choir. On the Shoshan musical instrument. Teaching. Sons of Korah. Song of love.

2. A good word poured out from my heart; I say: my song is about the King; my tongue is a cursive cane.

2. “A good word poured out from my heart” - from my heart, like an overflowing vessel, naturally and uncontrollably flowed this solemn and joyful song, full of good wishes for the king; the real good word of the writer is a sincere song poured out from the fullness of feeling in honor of the Tsar. - “My tongue is a scribbler’s cane.” Speed in writing was his great advantage; the author would like his tongue to express his thoughts and feelings in precise words that correspond to his desire, as quickly and accurately as a cursive cane.

The said verse represents an introduction to the content of the psalm and the chanting of the King depicted in the latter.

3. You are more beautiful than the sons of men; grace poured out from Your mouth; Therefore God has blessed You forever.

3. “You are more beautiful than the sons of men.” Beauty is a general designation for many virtues; it is a generic characteristic; “grace poured out from Your mouth”—from the mouth of the king comes intelligent speech that brings benefits to the listener. Solomon, indeed, amazed his contemporaries with his speech - in court cases with special insight, in ordinary conversations - with apt expressions, depth of thought and, in general, extensive information from all branches of human knowledge. - “Therefore God has blessed You forever” - Solomon’s extraordinary virtues caused a blessing on him from God. This blessing is not limited only to the historical fame of Solomon, whose name has become a household name to designate any person with extensive and deep knowledge, but also indicates that with his initial activity, his desire to establish and strengthen peace and truth on earth, he is a prototype His Great Descendant - the Messiah, who completely gave the world what for Solomon was an unattainable ideal. The eternal blessing of God on him cannot but be seen in the fact that this king was the organ of the Divine, and therefore the eternal revelation set forth in his books.

4. Gird Thy sword upon Thy thigh, O Mighty One, with Thy glory and Thy beauty,

5. And in this Your adornment hasten, sit on the chariot for the sake of truth and meekness and righteousness, and Your right hand will show You wondrous deeds.

6. Your arrows are sharp (, Strong); - the nations will fall before You - they are in the heart of the King's enemies.

4–6. The writer of the psalm invites the king to gird himself with a sword to fight his enemies. But this sword must consist of His glory and beauty, and therefore the enemies are not people, not enemies in the socio-political sense, but spiritual enemies - lies, malice, hatred, injustice, etc. To destroy these enemies, the king must strain your strength (“make haste”) and accomplish wondrous deeds. It is known that in court cases where experienced judges were powerless to sort out, Solomon made verdicts that amazed everyone with their obvious correctness and extraordinary resourcefulness. But in addition to this spiritual strength, Solomon also had a well-organized and experienced army, inherited from David, which was always ready to protect the king and destroy his enemies. It is known that Solomon kept it on the borders of his state to protect it from attacks. This idea about Solomon's military power in the words of the text of v. 6. can be conveyed this way: Your, Strong One, sharp arrows will penetrate the hearts of enemies (i.e., they will penetrate), and people will fall before You (i.e., enemies will not stand against your troops).

7. Thy throne, O God, endures forever; the scepter of righteousness is the scepter of your kingdom.

7. This military power and invincibility of the king are given to him, however, not because he is an experienced strategist and a skillful politician, but because by his governance for the sake of establishing righteousness and peace on earth, he realizes on earth the kingdom of God, “whose throne is righteousness.” , and therefore all nations who rebel against such a king, as opponents of the kingdom of God, must perish.

8. Thou hast loved righteousness and hated iniquity; therefore, O God, Thy God has anointed Thee with the oil of joy more than Thy fellows.

8. God anointed and preferred this king for his love of truth “more than partners.” Such accomplices (with glorious communicants, which is very accurate) - competitors for the throne after the death of David, were, for example, Adonijah, who tried by cunning to take possession of the crown of the king that was not intended for him. “God anointed” refers to the ancient custom of pouring oil on the head of the elected king through a prophet. This anointing served as an external sign indicating the legitimacy of the election and the enjoyment of special rights corresponding to the new position.

9. All Your garments are like myrrh and scarlet and cassia; from the palaces of ivory they rejoice Thee.

9. “Smyrna”, “cassia” and “aloy” are types of incense that noble people in the ancient east anointed themselves with. These incense were extracted from the resin of aromatic shrub plants.

“Smyrna” is a genus of gum tree resin, “casia” is an aromatic bark, and “aloy” is a tree native to India with a very delicate aroma.

- “From the palaces of ivory” - probably from the palaces that Solomon built and in which there were decorations made of expensive ivory. From these palaces they entertained Solomon with those entertainments that were then accepted in the East among kings. With Solomon, as a magnificent and luxurious king, luxury items reached extraordinary value, and types of entertainment - diversity.

10. The daughters of kings are among those honored by You; the queen stood at Your right hand in Ophir gold.

10. “The daughters of kings are among those honored by You.” These were the girlfriends of the king's bride and, as nobles by birth, they were honored in Solomon's palace. Of all of them, however, one stood out, which received royal dignity, i.e. became a crowned queen, wife (“At the right hand” - on the right side, which means to receive full right, power and honor). - “In Ophir Gold” - Eastern women, especially in ancient times, had bright colors as their favorite colors, and their costumes were striking in their diversity of colors. At the same time, gold and silver threads were threaded into the fabric of their clothes, which, adding shine and variegation to the outfit, made it very valuable. Such clothes were available only to rich and noble people, such as the bride, who obviously came from a royal family (2 Kings XIII:78), since her friends were “daughters of kings.”

11. Hear, daughter, and see, and incline your ear, and forget your people and your father’s house.

12. And the King will desire your beauty; for He is your Lord, and you shall worship Him.

13. And the daughter of Tyre with gifts, and the richest of the people, will pray before Your face.

11–13. The writer’s speech already addresses this queen and the author of the psalm asks for her especially intense attention to his words, giving the latter special importance (“hear, look and incline your ear”). - “Forget your people,” (your nation) “and your father’s house,” i.e. your parents. This new queen could not be Jewish, since her marriage to the king would not only not separate her from her nation, but would tie her even more strongly to the latter and could not harm the people. In the same way, there was no need to renounce one’s parents, i.e. your family; Jewish marriage kings with the daughters of their people was not only a common occurrence, but also legalized by Moses. Therefore, by bride we must mean the daughter of a pagan king, whose continued attachment to her family and nation could be harmful to the Jews. people. To forget your father’s house and your people means to merge with the Jews in your beliefs, to become a Jew in life, language and beliefs. Such a renunciation of former affections will be a sacrifice that will not go unappreciated: the king will especially love her (“desire your beauty”), bring her closer to himself; but you, the bride, must remember that He is your master, and therefore must show Him signs of respect and obedience (“bow to Him”). As a queen, you will enjoy the same respect as the King himself, and not only among your own people, but also among strangers. The Tyrians (Tyre is a trading city located on one of the islands of the Mediterranean Sea) will come to you with gifts to express respect; “the richest of the people” - i.e. noble and powerful among people, kings and princes of nations, will beg you for mercy and attention.

By this pagan bride we must mean the daughter of Pharaoh, the beloved wife of Solomon, about whom the Jews have a tradition that she accepted the law of Moses with her marriage and was a royal proselyte.

14. All the glory of the King's daughter is within; her clothes are embroidered with gold;

15. In speckled clothes she is led to the King; after her the maidens, her friends, are led to you,

16. They are brought in with joy and rejoicing and enter the palace of the King.

14–16. But the dignity of this Tsar’s wife does not lie in external beauty, wealth and nobility of origin - all this is nothing compared to her internal, spiritual qualities, which explains her separation from the number of other virgins. This bride of the King is followed into his palace by her friends, who follow her with joy, rejoicing at such closeness to the bride, and through her, to the King himself. Earlier (Art. 11), the writer suggested that the bride renounce her family and homeland, so that she could now transfer this affection to her sons, who would become princes over the whole earth. The writer's last appeal and his prediction about the world domination of Solomon's successors should be understood not as a prediction of their great historical significance, realized in reality, but as the ideal of the king and his successors, remaining faithful to which (ideal), they could be princes of the whole world. And it was to this, to dominion over the world, to spread the true knowledge of God among the last, that the Jewish people were called.

17. Instead of Your fathers, Your sons will be; You will make them princes throughout the whole earth.

18. I will make Your name memorable to generation and generation; Therefore the nations will praise You forever and ever.

18. The writer passes on this song of his, praising the Tsar and Queen for their high virtues and containing images of the ideal of kingship, to posterity, who will glorify them with his words among all nations.

This is the historical meaning of the content of the psalm, but it is not exhausted by it alone. Those features with which the author describes the personality of Solomon and the nature of his reign were not realized by the latter during his entire life. In the last years of Solomon's reign, the Jews suffered from many disorders, both in their internal life and in relations with pagan peoples. Solomon's successor not only did not become king of the whole world (see v. 17), but even lost more than half of his people, who chose Jeroboam the 1st as their king. In 8 tbsp. the reign of this king causes the eternal establishment of the throne of God, His eternal favor towards the King and the people, which is completely inapplicable to Solomon, since the latter was even exposed to reproof from Him. A literal understanding of the text, where the king is directly called God (which comparison, understood as a poetic image, as a hyperbole, could not be allowed by a Jewish writer who reveres Jehovah, Who has no likeness “neither on the earth below, nor in the waters, nor above”), already clearly indicates that it could not be applied to Solomon the man. All this gives reason to think that the personality of Solomon, the beginning of his reign and the glorified incident from his life elevated the author’s thought to the depiction of such a state in the life of mankind when his ideal would find historical fulfillment. The establishment of complete peace and the rule of truth on earth is beyond the power of man, as a limited and sinful being; only God can do this. In 7 tbsp. the author directly transfers his thought to Him, therefore Solomon, depicted by the author at the beginning of his reign, when he devoted himself to the concerns of establishing peace and truth on earth, is only a prototype in his activity of the future state of the world. When did God establish or will establish on earth the triumph of righteousness described in the psalm? The answer to this is the earthly ministry of the Savior, Who reconciled man with God and established the law of love and peace in relation to people among themselves. His kingdom is increasingly spreading throughout the world, subjugating all nations, and the princes of this world were first His disciples, who led and established the laws of Christian church life, and then their successors - bishops and generally pastors of the church. The spread of this kingdom throughout the entire Universe, predicted here by the writer of the psalm, is now in the period of its implementation, and its complete completion will come from the time of the Last Judgment, when the kingdom of truth and righteousness has already arrived. If by Solomon one must understand the Messiah, then by the marriage of the first to a foreigner, there is an indication of the pagan church entering into an alliance with Christ, which will reach such spiritual and moral heights that its first members (the leading Christians) will attract many people with their behavior and life. This has been justified and continues to be justified. A small number of pagan Christian believers in the era of the apostles and after them were the “first fruits of the believers,” whose number later became immeasurably large and is found in all countries of the world.
