Martyr Pelagia of Tarsus. Venerable Pelagia of Antioch

Martyr Pelagia of Tarsus, virgin (Pelageya)

The Holy Virgin Pelagia lived in the 3rd century in the city of Tarsus in the Cilician region of Asia Minor. She was the daughter of noble pagans, and when she heard Christians she knew preach about Jesus Christ, the Son of God, she believed in Him and wished to remain chaste, devoting her entire life to the Lord. The heir of Emperor Diocletian (the young man he adopted), seeing the maiden Pelagia, was captivated by her beauty and wished to take her as his wife. But the holy virgin told the young man that she was betrothed to the Immortal Bridegroom - the Son of God and renounced earthly marriage.

This response from Pelagia brought the royal youth into great anger, but he decided to leave her alone for a while, hoping that she would change her way of thinking. Meanwhile, Pelagia begged her mother to let her go to her nurse, who raised her as a child, secretly hoping to find the Bishop of Tarsus Klinon, who had retired to the mountains during the persecution of Christians, and to receive holy Baptism from him. In Pelagia's dream vision, the image of Bishop Klinon appeared, deeply imprinted in her memory. Saint Pelagia went to the nurse in a chariot, dressed in rich clothes and accompanied by a whole retinue of servants, as her mother wished. At the special direction of God, Bishop Klinon came out to meet Saint Pelagia. Pelagia immediately recognized the bishop, whose image appeared to her in a dream. She fell at his feet, asking for baptism. Through the bishop’s prayer, a source of water flowed out of the ground. Bishop Klinon baptized Saint Pelagia, during the sacrament Angels appeared and covered the chosen one of God with a bright veil. Having communed the pious virgin with the Holy Mysteries, Bishop Klinon offered prayerful thanksgiving to the Lord with her and sent her on her way. Returning to the servants who were waiting for her, Saint Pelagia preached to them about Christ, and many of them were converted and believed. She tried to convert her mother to faith in Christ, but the embittered mother sent to tell the royal son that Pelagia was a Christian and did not want to be his wife. The young man realized that Pelagia was lost to him, and, not wanting to betray her to torture, he pierced himself with a sword. Then Pelagia’s mother was afraid of the emperor’s anger, tied up her daughter and took her to trial before Diocletian as a Christian and the imaginary culprit in the death of the heir to the throne. The emperor was captivated by the girl’s extraordinary beauty and tried to turn her away from her faith in Christ, promising her all sorts of earthly blessings and promising to make her his first wife. But the holy virgin rejected the king’s proposals with contempt and said: “You are crazy, king, telling me such speeches. Know that I will not fulfill your desire, for I abhor your vile marriage, since I have a Bridegroom - Christ, the King of Heaven. I do not desire your royal, vain and short-lived crown, for my Lord in the Heavenly Kingdom has three incorruptible crowns prepared for me. The first is for faith, since I believed with all my heart in the True God; the second for purity, because I handed over my virginity to Him; the third for martyrdom, for I want to accept every torment for Him and lay down my soul for the sake of my love for Him.” Then Diocletian sentenced Pelagia to be burned in a red-hot cast copper ox. Not allowing the executioners to touch her body, the holy martyr herself, making the sign of the cross, with prayer entered the red-hot oven, in which her body melted like ointment, filling the entire city with a fragrance; The bones of Saint Pelagia remained undamaged in the fire and were thrown out of the city by the pagans. Then four lions came from the desert and sat down near the bones, not allowing any birds or animals to approach them. The lions guarded the remains of the saint until Bishop Klinon came to that place. He collected them and buried them with honor. The torture and death of Saint Pelagia occurred in 290. During the reign of Emperor Constantine (306–337), when the persecution of Christians ceased, a church was built at the burial site of Saint Pelagia.

Troparion to the Martyr Pelagia of Tarsus, tone 4

Your lamb, Jesus, Pelagia,/ calls with a great voice:/ I love You, my Bridegroom,/ and, seeking You, I suffer,/ and I crucify myself, and I bury myself in Your Baptism,/ and I suffer for You. Come, let me reign in You,/ and I die for You, and I also live with You;/ but, as a blameless sacrifice, accept me with love, sacrificed to You./ Through my prayers// For the Merciful, save our souls.

Kontakion to the Martyr Pelagia of Tarsus, tone 3

Temporarily despised/ and formerly a partaker of Heavenly blessings,/ the crown of suffering for the sake of receiving,/ Pelagia, the all-honorable one,/ as a gift you brought blood streams to the Lord Christ./ Pray to deliver us from troubles, // those who honor your memory.

Saint Pelagia was born into a noble pagan family in the Asia Minor city of Tarsus (now the Turkish city of Tarsus) - the birthplace of the Apostle Paul. There have been many saints in this city since the beginning of the Christian era.

One day, having heard the preaching of Christians, she believed in Jesus Christ and followed them, deciding to be baptized. Pelagia constantly prayed that the Lord would grant her the opportunity to meet with the Bishop of Tarsus Klinon, who was at that time hiding in the mountains from persecution. The girl wanted to receive Baptism from him. One day, on the way in the forest, she met a bishop. Through prayers, a spring began to flow in that place, in the waters of which Pelagia was baptized.

Baptism reborn the girl - if before she was proud and talkative, now she became humble and silent, if before she loved exquisite foods and entertainment, now she fasted, abstained and prayed a lot. The girl kept mental and physical purity, and in her heart she had only one Groom - the Son of God.

Pelageya was very beautiful, and this beauty played a special role in her life. One young man, the adopted son of Emperor Diocletian, fell in love with her very much and wanted to marry her. But for the sake of God, the girl refused him. The mother tried in every possible way to convince her daughter to marry a rich and glorious young man, but Pelagia refused, because after being baptized, she took a vow of virginity.

Having failed to obtain a positive response from Pelagia, the young man committed suicide by throwing himself on his sword. Fearing the wrath of the emperor, the mother of Saint Pelagia herself gave her up for trial. The persecutor of Christians, Emperor Diocletian, was even ready to pardon the girl if she renounced Christ. The saint did not accept the persuasion and promises of the ruler, who was also carried away by the beauty of Pelagia and wanted to take her as his wife. She replied that she did not need a temporary royal crown, since the Lord in the Kingdom of Heaven had three crowns prepared for her - for faith, for virginity and for martyrdom, because the girl wanted to accept martyrdom for the love of God.

After torture, the girl was sentenced to be burned in a copper bull. When Pelagia voluntarily entered the red-hot oven, a miracle happened - her body melted like wax or incense, the aroma of which filled all the streets and squares. The saint's bones remained unharmed. They, by order of the emperor, were thrown out of the city. Four lions that came from the desert protected the holy relics from wild animals and birds. Subsequently, Bishop Klinon buried the remains of the martyr. Under Emperor Constantine the Great, a church was erected on the site of the burial of the relics of the martyr.

The memory of the martyr Pelagia of Tarsus is celebrated on May 17 and October 20 .

Life

The daughter of noble pagans from the city of Tarsus in Cilicia (Asia Minor), she heard a sermon about Christ and believed in Him. One day, the adopted son and heir of Emperor Diocletian, seeing Pelagia, was captivated by her extraordinary beauty and wished to take her as his wife. But Pelagia answered that she was betrothed to the Immortal Bridegroom. The young man was upset, but decided to give the girl time.

Realizing that she was in danger for recognizing herself as a Christian, Pelagia decided to accept holy baptism. To do this, she went in search of Bishop Klinon of Tarsus, who was hiding in the mountains, since persecution of Christians was raging at that time. Having seen him in a dream the day before, she easily recognized Klinon when she met him on the road. Falling at his feet, she asked for baptism. Immediately, from under the feet of the holy bishop, a spring began to flow, in which he baptized Pelagia.

After this, the saint fearlessly tried to convert people, as well as her mother, to faith in Christ, but the embittered woman sent to tell the royal son that Pelagia was a Christian and did not want to be his wife.

The emperor was struck by the beauty of the beautiful maiden and invited her to become his wife and queen. But Pelagia contemptuously replied that she abhorred such a marriage, because she had a Groom - Christ. Then Diocletian sentenced Pelagia to be burned in a red-hot copper ox. Not allowing the executioners to touch her body, the holy martyr, making the sign of the cross, with prayer entered the red-hot oven, in which her body melted like ointment, filling the entire city with a fragrance. The torture and death of Saint Pelagia occurred in 290.

Prayer of Blessed Pelagia of Ryazan

Holy Blessed Mother Pelagie, pray to God for us

O blessed maiden Pelagia, beloved daughter of the fiery shepherd of Sarov, Seraphim! Even in your earthly life, you who are present, loved us and prophesied for our sake all that would come to our race, intercede with your prayers to the Lord in the days of destruction and apostasy from the true Orthodox faith, strengthen our spirit in the fierce sorrows that have befallen us, deliver us from the servants of the Antichrist , wolves in sheep's clothing, who are dragging us into hell with them, give us bread in the days of famine and shelter in the days of our flight, hide us from the Antichrist in the hidden desert, prepared for us by God from eternity, and beg the Lord to grant us forgiveness of our sins and life eternal on the new Earth, under the new Heaven. Amen.

Another prayer (from the akathist)

O blessed maiden Pelagie, called Ryazan, you were a heavenly resident from childhood and lived only as a wanderer in the body on earth, honored with great grace for the love of the Lord and rewarded with the gifts of clairvoyance and prophecy, with the Queen of Heaven Herself having visited both Heaven and Hell and all the ordeals for who saw sins, who communicated with the Monk Seraphim, who communicated with her own father, and who knew from him everything that was and was to come, who always remained in Heaven with a pure mind, praying to the Most Holy Trinity and our Intercessor, the Mother of God, for us, that we may not perish in fiery hell for our many sins and bring our repentance for the sin of regicide and betrayal. May the Lord forgive us foolish people and send down to us the Glorious Autocratic Orthodox Sovereign through the prayers of the Venerable Seraphim, so that with the resurrected Elder of Sarov and the Sovereign indicated by him, with all the people we will sing Easter in the middle of summer: Christ has raised their dead, trampled down death with death and given life to those in the tombs! Amen.

Blessed Elder Pelagia Zakharovskaya is a locally revered saint of the Ryazan land. In the Church of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist John the Theologian in the village of Zakharovo (Mikhailovsky District) there is an icon of her, in front of which you can light a candle and pray to the holy righteous woman. At your mother’s grave, you can serve a memorial service for her or read an akathist to her (for private reading). At the grave, according to the advice of the blessed one, which she gave during her lifetime, you can bless bread, salt, sugar, eggs, vegetable oil, water and other products. A piece of bread (rye), consecrated at mother’s grave, must be kept as a shrine so that during hungry years there will always be bread in the house.

Approaching the grave, bow your knees with reverence, pray fervently to the great saint of God and ask for her intercession and help, and your prayer will always be heard. Help you, Lord!

Help from Elder Samuel

“Elder Samuel. Akathist. Rescue of deceased relatives from hell"

"Brothers and sisters!

The days of Great Lent are a favorable time for prayer for the departed, for it is especially accepted by God as a sign of our love for our deceased relatives. By the grace of God, through Elder Samuel and God, an akathist was given to beg for the family up to the tribe of Adam. You should read 40 akathists over 40 days, except Sundays, 1 akathist per 1 day. On Radonitsa, the Lord will lead his relatives out of hell and take them to Paradise, to heaven!

God's help to everyone!"

————-

“Later, my friends told me how they begged the family by reading the akathist st. Samuel for the deceased family, as they were shown in a dream that their relatives were saved.

My mother and I began to read this akathist, and on the 40th day my mother was shown a dream (she had previously asked God to show the fate of her deceased relatives) of how crowds of souls rise up the mountain, into the sky, and gradually their clothes turn white.

When reading the akathist, I wanted to read it more and more in order to quickly help my departed relatives, as if someone was really waiting for our help, and after each akathist there was joy in my soul, as if wings were growing, and the sun appeared on the street, even on a cloudy day. weather, especially on Saturdays.

After some time, at night, on Michaelmas Day, we prayed for our relatives, and our souls were so light, the prayer flowed smoothly, without any hesitation, although this had never happened before. But as soon as I started remembering my friend, it was as if someone grabbed me by the breasts and pulled me down, my legs were rooted to the floor, I felt an incredible heaviness. And we understand, Art. Samuel prayed for our family!

After that, I decided to help one friend and beg his family. I read 24 akathists. When reading the 24th, I feel that a bunch of demons are bursting into the room and are starting to spin around my feet, but they can’t come up, and they are full of malice. And let’s attack me with thoughts: “Stop reading the akathist, we’ll tear you to pieces!” Stop it, otherwise we’ll destroy all your relatives!” I continued to read the akathist, realizing that it was all from the enemy, and then, looking at the text, I see the floor opening, and hell, from a boiling river, some woman is stretching her arms towards me with a silent scream. Her face was slightly familiar, but I didn’t recognize who it was. And suddenly the thought: “We will kill your mother if you don’t stop reading the akathist!” And then I understand that this woman in the river is my mother! I was very scared. My mother comes into my room and says, stop reading the akathist, I feel very bad. I prayed and God revealed to me that it was because of the reading of the akathist that we had been sick for 2 weeks and could not recover. This is how the Lord revealed the full power of prayers to the Holy St. Samuel, and at the same time, taught that it is impossible to beg someone else’s family, because... You can lose yours.

As it turned out later, a friend had Old Believers in his family on his father’s side. I gave him the akathist to finish reading, and as soon as he took it in his hands and looked at the photo of the Elder, he said: “You feel it right away, Saint!” Although he is very skeptical about the Latter-Time Saints and the topic of the apocalypse too.

Recently, I gave one woman an akathist to the Elder to read. The next night, I had a dream, I was lying down, sleeping, and someone was sitting on my chest (and I felt it physically) and hitting me on the cheeks and saying: “Why did you give the akathist to Samuel?”

“One woman from Kursk Root told me that the cover of the first volume of the book about Elder Samuil was streaming with myrrh in three places. Another woman from Odessa recently said that Odessa residents sent notes to the elder’s grave asking them to pray for the dead, and they then appeared to them and told them that Elder Samuel had rescued them from hell.

One Orthodox priest, who sees the sins of people, blessed two spiritual children to go to the grave of Elder Samuel, saying: “You will receive much Grace.” He said about the book that not everything is true, but Samuel is a real old man.

Another perspicacious priest, a strong man of prayer, to whom people come from all over the country for prayerful help, blesses people to read books about Elder Samuel.

I note that both priests, having seen the photograph of Archbishop of Kharkov and Bogodukhovsky Onuphry consecrating the temple in the village. Pyatikhatki said: “This is a throne being prepared for the Antichrist” and “Of course, this is a church for demons, you can’t go there. Preach like that, preach like that: you can’t go there.”

I myself saw how, when touching the cross on the grave of Elder Samuel, the demoniacs scream, literally “as if cut to death.”

I saw that people come to the elder’s grave by minibuses. A local resident also told me that they come by bus.

And in the second volume, how many people talk about the prayerful help of Elder Samuel.”

SPIRITUAL INSTRUCTIONS OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN PELAGIA OF RYAZAN

Blessed Pelagia of Ryazan was born blind in 1890 in the Ryazan region. She was orphaned early, wandered among strangers, and endured a lot of grief and suffering. During her holy life, she received from the Lord the gifts of healing, unceasing prayer, insight and prophecy. In godless times she cared for Christ-loving people. She communicated with the holy inhabitants of heaven, the Monk Seraphim of Sarov was her indispensable mentor and adviser throughout her life. She prophesied a lot about the last times, about the fate of Russia and the Church. She died in 1966. She was buried in the village of Zakharovo, Mikhailovsky district, Ryazan region. Her memory is December 6 (New Art).

The perspicacious maiden Pelagia of Ryazan said that night prayer (bow) is valued before God 40 times higher than the same prayer (bow) read in the daytime. After all, for the sake of Christ, for the glory of God, a person gets up to pray at the best time for sleep. But you can begin night prayer only if you already have a solid habit of daytime prayer; at first, pray very little at night, add gradually, little by little, and always remain in humility.

Blessed Pelagia explained the practical benefits and significance of reading certain psalms and prayers, especially necessary in our recent times.

A very strong prayer, in just four words: “For God is with us.” It contains the firmness of faith, complete trust in the Lord and the spiritual joy of believers who recognize among themselves the gracious presence of God Almighty.

And if God is with us, then who is against us?!

That is why the visible and invisible enemy (sorcerers, dashing people, demons) is so afraid of this short prayer. One servant of God absentmindedly and quickly read the prayer: “For God is with us” three times before opening the door to the “plumber.” He told her: “You got ahead of me, now I have nothing to do with you,” and the sorcerer left in fear.

The 26th Psalm is the most powerful in the entire Psalter. Whoever reads it at least 3 times a day will be led by the Lord (when He needs it, but not to us sinners) “through water as upon dry land.” Whoever reads this psalm a lot, demons cannot be in that person or near him. By reading this psalm, you can even, by taking a blessing from a spiritual priest who knows you well, and only in exceptional cases, get rid of demonic possession (popularly called “corruption,” although this is not Orthodox). Even one witch who asked to pray for her was given instructions that the Holy Church forbids praying for sorcerers, but if you sincerely want to get rid of the power of demons, then you yourself will need to read the 26th Psalm 40 times at night. If you do not flinch at the demonic insurance - you deduct, then the Lord will deliver you from under their power. to start reading the 26th Psalm 3 times during the day, but the skill of night prayer is acquired by other prayers, but not by this psalm.

Whoever reads the 26th Psalm a lot will, figuratively speaking, be among the sorcerers “like riding a tank” unharmed!

One great prayer book, a schema nun, was given the instruction in revelation: “ After conversations with people who are alien in spirit, restore your strength by reading the 26th Psalm.”

Blind Porlyushka knew the entire Psalter by heart, from cover to cover... He was a special person! Even in childhood, when Polya was five or six years old, a good nun visited her and taught her to pray. She came and read psalms and prayers to Porlyusica. And what a good memory God gave to blessed Porlyushka! After all, the greatest psalms are learned by heart three times!..

When Polya taught me to read the Psalter, she explained both the meaning and purpose of each chosen psalm. I will cite some of them here from memory: Psalm - to persevere in fulfilling the commandments of the Lord. It is about the bliss of the righteous. Psalm 2 to get rid of eternal destruction . Psalm 5 - for acquiring the love of prayer . The 15th Psalm is for always seeing the Lord. Psalm 19 - to prepare for the coming of the Antichrist . Psalm 20 - to admonish the wicked man . Psalm 21 - from the sins of the last ordeals (from prodigal to hard-hearted) and from violent desecration by the sin of fornication and sodomy . (Also pray to martyr Agnia and martyr Anastasia the Pattern - they will protect both from imprisonment by the servants of the Antichrist and from rape). Psalm 26 - to withstand both spiritual warfare and war ; from witchcraft and any temptations . Psalm 29 - for fear of suffering for the Lord . Psalm 33 - from thirst for food and drink (deliverance from starvation). Psalm 39 - to fulfill the will of God and be ready for self-sacrifice. Psalm 43 - so that there is grace in the house, figuratively speaking, so that everything in the house shines with grace, as in the royal chambers with gold (even on Sundays and the Lord’s feasts, read “Glory, Lord, to Your Holy Resurrection”). Psalm 44 - in order to always see the Mother of God . Psalm 45 - to be invincible. This is the anthem of victory over the enemy. Psalm 49 (for us, all sinners, especially the priesthood) - against pride and darkness of mind, for teaching how we should serve God, so as not to renounce God. Psalm 63 - from the seal of the Antichrist (also read the akathist to the seven youths of Ephesus and the prayer “Lord Almighty, Incomprehensible, the beginning of light and exceeding power...”, which is at the end of the first kathisma, it is the core of the entire Psalter, “compressed Psalter”), 69 th psalm - to adequately repel the attacks of enemies . Psalm 78 - for the deliverance of Christians from torment and death . Psalm 83 - to inherit the Kingdom of Heaven . Psalm 90 - to have from the Savior the power to defeat evil (also read the kontakion to the Mother of God - “To the chosen Voivode, victorious...”). Psalm 139 - in order to have prayer and work (or pension). Psalm 141 - to be prepared for persecution . And the blessed maiden Pelagia repeated to us that it is necessary, after accepting the seal of the Antichrist, to read the prayer found at the end of the first kathisma of the Psalter: “O Lord Almighty, Incomprehensible, the beginning of light and exceeding power...”.

Keep an open Psalter in the Holy Corner (for example, on the 26th Psalm), even if you have not yet read the Psalms - the demons are already trembling.

Blessed Pelagia said that it is very great to receive Communion with dignity on Holy Maundy Thursday, then in case of persecution and only in this case the grace of this Communion can last for three years.

Only in the Orthodox Church is the correct veneration of the Saints preserved. They, being closer to God, convey our prayers and aspirations to Him.

Polyushka Zakharovskaya was not only a great faster and prayer worker herself, but she also taught people various prayers. Neither before the war nor after the war was it impossible to obtain a prayer book. But you need to pray! The blessed maiden Pelagia herself knew all the prayers by heart - the canons, the akathists, and the Psalter... So she taught the people prayers for various occasions in life. I also asked little blind Polya to teach me different prayers, and now I will recall some of her instructions about prayers.

In order to understand the truth in life, you need to often repeat to yourself the words of the Apostle Paul: “Lord, what do you command me to do?” (Acts 9:6).

In order to have a repentant mood, especially before the sacrament of confession, one must read the publican’s prayer: “God, be merciful to me a sinner” (Luke 18:13). Against lack of faith, especially before Communion, you need to silently read the prayer of the Apostle Thomas, who was the first on Earth to confess Jesus Christ as God in the flesh: “My Lord and my God!” (John 20; 28). When fear , you need to protect yourself with the Cross and prayer:

“Heavenly Power, deliver me from the power of the enemy!” The Revelation of the Apostle John the Theologian says that under the Antichrist there will be no death (Rev. 9; 6). When all this comes true, these words will be great: “Lord, do not deprive me of death!”

In order to have the mind of Christ, every servant of God must often say the following prayer: “Give me, O Son, Thy heart!”

In order not to die a sudden death, not to be left without the sacrament of unction and without Communion, it is necessary to say the following prayers: “Lord, deliver me from a vain death! Lord, don’t deprive me of three days of repentance!” When censing in church or in the house, you need to read the prayer to yourself: “The Holy Spirit descend on me and the power of the Almighty fall upon me.” In order to be protected from evil spirits and sorcerers, one must constantly say the prayer: “For God is with us!” (Isa. 8; 10).

It is necessary to occupy your mind by reading prayer requests from the Holy Scriptures. For example, excerpts from the penitential psalm are very helpful in the fight against sinful thoughts; they can be read in thousands:

“Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a right spirit in my womb” (Ps. 50; 12). “Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me” (Ps. 50: 13). “Lord, you have opened my mouth, and my mouth will declare Your praise” (Ps. 50:17).

No less important are prayers taken from other psalms. A short prayer for enlightenment of the mind is very helpful in knowing everything Divine :

“O Lord my God, enlighten my darkness” (Ps. 17:29).

At the first ordeal, the sins of idle talk, idle talk, verbosity and idle talk are tortured. Whoever wants to pass it must ask the Lord for help:

“Put, O Lord, a guard over my mouth, and a door of protection over my lips” (Ps. 140: 3).

And in order to receive protection from the Lord from evil people and demons, you need to repeat this prayer more often:

“You, O Lord, have preserved us and kept us from this generation and forever” (Ps. 11:8).

You have to really think about life in order to carry out God’s plan. And for this you need to keep this petition in mind:

“Just as the trees desire the springs of water, so does my soul desire You, O God” (Ps. 41:2).

If a person wants to have an unceasing burning towards God in his heart, then he must constantly repeat:

“My heart will warm within me, and a fire will burn in my teaching” (Ps. 38:4).

When doing needlework or walking, you can create excerpts from the canons in your mind. For example:

“Holy Trinity, our God, glory to Thee,” “Glory, Lord, to Thy Honest Cross and Resurrection.”

While in joy , it is good to repeat to ourselves the praise of our Savior:

“Glory, Lord, to Your incarnation.” When you are sick, you must constantly say the prayer: “Glory to Your passion, O Lord.”

When praying at home or in church, you need to look directly at the image or at the cup taken out. Before communion of the Body and Blood of Christ, you can repeat to yourself the words from the prayer of St. Basil the Great:

“Lord, teach me to do holiness in Thy Passion.” In different circumstances, reading one excerpt from the prayer of St. John Chrysostom helps a lot: “Lord, teach me to do Thy will in everything.” To acquire and preserve spiritual peace, you need to pray in the words of St. Tikhon of Zadonsk: “My Lord, Lord, my joy, grant me that I may rejoice in Your mercy” (Akathist to Almighty God).

Love for God hurts the enemies of God . Therefore, we need to say this prayer more often:

“Grant, Lord, that my name may be feared by enemies!” The blessed maiden Pelagia taught the common people to pray with short prayer requests, in accordance with the vital needs of a person. And even before the war, Porlyusica the blind helped me draw up a prayer rule like the twelve daily prayers and twelve night prayers of St. John Chrysostom. In each petition, families can add “with relatives” after the word “me.” “Lord, deliver me from eternal fire”; “Lord, write me in the Book of Life”; “Lord, don’t deprive me of Paradise”; “Lord, teach me to praise You”; “Lord, confirm me in the right Faith”; “Lord, increase my Faith”; “Lord, send upon me the Gift of the Holy Spirit”; “Lord, teach me to pray fervently”; “Gather my scattered mind, O Lord”; “Lord, teach me to truly repent”; “Lord, send me grace, wisdom and peace.” “Warmth of the Holy Spirit, warm me” (words of St. Seraphim of Sarov).

Peresvetovsky Metochion of the Holy Trinity Sergius Lavra

On Saturday, May 17, the day of remembrance of the martyr Pelagia, the Virgin of Tarsus, the Divine Liturgy and prayer service to the great martyr were performed at the Peresvetovsky courtyard. Panteleimon the Healer; the day before, Matins and an akathist to the Resurrection of Christ were served.

Holy Virgin Pelagia

lived in the 3rd century in the city of Tarsus in the Cilician region of Asia Minor. Then Pelagia’s mother was afraid of the emperor’s anger, tied up her daughter and took her to trial before Diocletiapus as a Christian and the imaginary culprit in the death of the heir to the throne. During the reign of Emperor Constantine (306-337), when the persecution of Christians ceased, a church was built at the burial site of Saint Pelagia.
