The return to the faith of the forefathers is accompanied by the filling of gaps in knowledge of the main definitions and provisions of our Orthodox faith. How is the bible different from the gospel? This question took me by surprise and I did not know the correct answer. The Gospel is often sold as a separate booklet, and in comparison with the Bible it looks timid. But if you open the first pages of the gospel, it becomes clear: it talks about the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Let's look at the difference between the Old and New Testaments that make up the Bible.

Sacred texts

The Bible has formed the basis of several faiths widely spread throughout the world: Christianity, Islam and Judaism. Researchers have estimated that Scripture, in whole or in part, has now been translated into more than two thousand world languages.

The Bible is a book that has a significant impact on the views of many people living on all continents without exception. Moreover, by and large, it doesn’t even matter in principle whether you really believe in the Almighty or not. Regardless of this, every person who considers himself educated should know and understand what kind of book the Bible is, what it is about, what basic ideas and postulates it carries. After all, it is on biblical texts that most of the moral canons inherent in any civilized society are based.

In Greek, the word “Bible” literally means “book.” Essentially, this is a list of texts written by many authors at various times under the influence of the Holy Spirit. These texts became the basis for a number of modern beliefs, which are followed by the majority of living people, for whom these texts are canonical.

Gospel is translated as “good news.” These texts describe the life of Jesus Christ on earth. It tells about his earthly affairs, teachings, followers, crucifixion and subsequent resurrection. This is one of the constituent parts of the Bible, included in the New Testament.

Authorship

Every book, every text has an author. But who, then, is the author of the Bible?

A believer, without hesitation, will answer that “The Bible is the word of God.” It turns out that the author is the Lord God himself. Then where does the Bible include, say, the Wisdom of Solomon or the Book of Job? It turns out there is more than one author? It is assumed that the Bible was written by ordinary people: philosophers, farmers, soldiers and shepherds, doctors and even kings. But these people had a special inspiration from God. They did not express their own thoughts, but simply held a pencil in their hands while the Lord moved their hand. And yet, each text has its own writing style, it feels like they belong to different people. Undoubtedly, they can be called authors, but still they had God himself as a co-author.

For a long time, no one doubted the authorship of the Gospel. It was believed that the texts were written by four Evangelists, whose names are known to everyone: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. In fact, they cannot be called authors with complete certainty. What is known for certain is that all the actions described in these texts did not take place with the personal testimony of the evangelists. Most likely, this is a collection of so-called “oral literature”, told by people whose names will forever remain a secret. This is not the final point. Research in this area continues, but today many clergy have preferred to tell parishioners that the Gospel was written by unknown authors.

How is Holy Scripture organized?

The Bible consists of the books of the Old and New Testaments.

There are about fifty writings included in the Old Testament. In Orthodoxy, only 38 of them are recognized as canonical.

The New Testament includes 27 books, including four Gospels. In addition, the constituent parts of the New Testament are the Acts of the Apostles and the 21 Apostolic Epistles.

The basis of the Gospel is made up of four texts recognized as canonical. This is the Gospel of Matthew, Luke, Mark and John. The latter was created much later, therefore it differs significantly in the text and the events described in it. However, the Gospel of John is believed to be based on an older text, so it is also recognized as canonical.

So let your light shine before people, so that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

(Matthew 5:16)

Therefore, everyone who confesses Me before men, him will I also confess before My Heavenly Father;

(Matthew 10:32)

let him know that he who converts a sinner from his false path will save his soul from death and cover a multitude of sins.

(James 5:20)

and to lead a virtuous life among the pagans, so that for the reasons for which they slander you as evildoers, when they see your good deeds, they may glorify God on the day of visitation.

(1 Peter 2:12)

for this is the will of God, that by doing good we should stop the ignorance of foolish people -

(1 Peter 2:15)

For this pleases God if someone, thinking about God, endures sorrows, suffering unjustly.

(1 Peter 2:19)

For what is praise if you endure being beaten for your wrongdoings? But if, while doing good and suffering, you endure, this pleases God.

(1 Peter 2:20)

For you have been called to this, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, so that we would follow in His footsteps.

(1 Peter 2:21)

Likewise, you wives, be submissive to your husbands, so that those of them who do not obey the word may be won without a word by the conduct of their wives.

(1 Peter 3:1)

when they see your pure, God-fearing life.

(1 Peter 3:2)

If anyone speaks, speak as the words of God; If anyone serves, let him serve according to the strength that God gives, so that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

(1 Peter 4:11)

I appeal to you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service (Romans 12:1)

For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing:

(2 Corinthians 2:15)

For some it is a smell of death leading to death, but for others it is a smell of life leading to life. And who is capable of this?

(2 Corinthians 2:16)

and he has enlightened the eyes of your heart, that you may know what is the hope of His calling, and what are the riches of His glorious inheritance for the saints,

(Ephesians 1:18)

For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to walk in.

(Ephesians 2:10)

To me, the least of all saints, was given this grace - to preach to the pagans the unsearchable riches of Christ

(Ephesians 3:8)

Then He said to His disciples: The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few;

(Matthew 9:37)

Therefore pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.

(Matthew 9:38)

As you go, preach that the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand;

(Matthew 10:7)

Take with you neither gold, nor silver, nor copper in your belts,

(Matthew 10:9)

neither a bag for the journey, nor two coats, nor shoes, nor a staff, for the worker is worthy of food.

(Matthew 10:10)

Whatever city or village you enter, visit who is worthy in it, and stay there until you leave;

(Matthew 10:11)

and when you enter a house, greet it, saying: Peace to this house;

(Matthew 10:12)

and if the house is worthy, then your peace will come upon it; if you are not worthy, then your peace will return to you.

(Matthew 10:13)

Behold, I send you out as sheep among wolves: therefore be wise as serpents, and innocent as doves.

(Matthew 10:16)

Beware of people, for they will hand you over to the courts and beat you in their synagogues,

(Matthew 10:17)

and you will be brought before rulers and kings for My sake, for a testimony before them and the Gentiles.

(Matthew 10:18)

When they betray you, do not worry about how or what to say; for at that hour it will be given to you what to say,

(Matthew 10:19)

For it is not you who will speak, but the Spirit of your Father who will speak in you.

(Matthew 10:20)

and you will be hated by everyone because of My name; he who endures to the end will be saved.

(Matthew 10:22)

When they persecute you in one city, flee to another. For truly I say to you, before you have gone around the cities of Israel, the Son of Man comes.

(Matthew 10:23)

What I tell you in the dark, speak in the light; and whatever you hear in the ear, preach on the housetops.

(Matthew 10:27)

And a man’s enemies are his own household.

(Matthew 10:36)

whoever receives the prophet, in the name of the prophet, will receive the reward of the prophet; and whoever receives the righteous, in the name of the righteous, will receive the reward of the righteous.

(Matthew 10:41)

And whoever gives one of these little ones to drink only a cup of cold water in the name of a disciple, truly I tell you, will not lose his reward.

(Matthew 10:42)

And everyone who leaves houses, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for My name’s sake, will receive a hundredfold and will inherit eternal life.

(Matthew 19:29)

But many who are first will be last, and those who are last will be first.

(Matthew 19:30)

So the last will be first, and the first last, for many are called, but few are chosen.

(Matthew 20:16)

But do not call yourself teachers, for you have only one Teacher - Christ, and yet you are brothers;

(Matthew 23:8)

and do not be called instructors, for you have only one instructor—Christ.

(Matthew 23:10)

Go therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,

(Matthew 28:19)

But Jesus did not allow him, but said: go home to your people and tell them what the Lord has done to you and how he has had mercy on you.

(Mark 5:19)

And he went and began to preach in the Decapolis what Jesus had done to him; and everyone marveled.

(Mark 5:20)

And calling the people with His disciples, He said to them: If anyone wants to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.

(Mark 8:34)

For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for the sake of Me and the Gospel will save it.

(Mark 8:35)

Jesus answered and said, “Truly I say to you, there is no one who has left house, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or land, for My sake and the gospel’s sake,

(Mark 10:29)

and now, in this time, in the midst of persecution, I would not have received a hundred times more houses, and brothers and sisters, and fathers, and mothers, and children, and lands, and in the age to come, eternal life.

(Mark 10:30)

And the Gospel must first be preached to all nations.

(Mark 13:10)

And you will be hated by everyone because of My name; he who endures to the end will be saved.

(Mark 13:13)

And he said to them: Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.

(Mark 16:15)

Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved; and whoever does not believe will be condemned.

(Mark 16:16)

Already the ax lies at the root of the trees: every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

(Luke 3:9)

And the people asked him: what should we do?

(Luke 3:10)

He answered and said to them, “Whoever has two coats, give to the poor, and whoever has food, do the same.”

(Luke 3:11)

The soldiers also asked him: what should we do? And he said to them: do not offend anyone, do not slander, and be content with your salary.

(Luke 3:14)

The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me; For He has anointed Me to preach good news to the poor, and He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach freedom to the captives, recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed,

(Luke 4:18)

preach the favorable year of the Lord.

(Luke 4:19)

The man from whom the demons had come out asked Him to be with Him. But Jesus sent him away, saying:

(Luke 8:38)

return to your house and tell what God has done for you. He went and preached throughout the whole city what Jesus had done for him.

(Luke 8:39)

and sent them to preach the Kingdom of God and to heal the sick.

(Luke 9:2)

But Jesus said to him: Let the dead bury their dead, and you go and preach the Kingdom of God.

(Luke 9:60)

After this the Lord also chose seventy other disciples, and sent them two by two before Him to every city and place where He Himself wanted to go,

(Luke 10:1)

and he said to them: The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; Therefore, pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.

(Luke 10:2)

Go! I send you out like lambs among wolves.

(Luke 10:3)

Stay in that house, eat and drink what they have, for the worker is worthy of reward for his labors; do not move from house to house.

(Luke 10:7)

And if you come to any city and they receive you, eat what they offer you,

(Luke 10:8)

and heal the sick who are in it, and say to them, The kingdom of God has come near you.

(Luke 10:9)

But I say to you, everyone who confesses Me before men, the Son of Man will also confess it before the angels of God;

(Luke 12:8)

For I tell you that none of those who are called will taste my supper, for many are called, but few are chosen.

(Luke 14:24)

If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, and wife and children, and brothers and sisters, and, moreover, his own life, he cannot be My disciple;

(Luke 14:26)

and whoever does not bear his cross and follow Me cannot be My disciple.

(Luke 14:27)

So, anyone of you who does not renounce everything that he has cannot be My disciple.

(Luke 14:33)

Salt is a good thing; but if the salt loses its strength, how can it be corrected?

(Luke 14:34)

not suitable for soil or manure; they throw it away. He who has ears to hear, let him hear!

(Luke 14:35)

He said to them, “Truly I say to you, there is no one who has left house, or parents, or brothers, or sisters, or wife, or children for the kingdom of God,

(Luke 18:29)

and would not have received much more in this time, nor in the age to come, eternal life.

(Luke 18:30)

and repentance and forgiveness of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem.

(Luke 24:47)

He who reaps receives his reward and gathers fruit for eternal life, so that both he who sows and he who reaps will rejoice together,

(John 4:36)

I sent you to reap what you did not labor for: others labored, but you entered into their labor.

(John 4:38)

Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.”

(John 6:29)

No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day.

(John 6:44)

And he said: This is why I told you, that no one can come to Me unless it is given to him from My Father.

(John 6:65)

And now, Lord, look upon their threats, and grant to Your servants to speak Your word with all boldness,

(Acts 4:29)

Ananias answered: Lord! I have heard from many about this man, how much evil he did to Thy saints in Jerusalem;

(Acts 9:13)

But the Lord said to him, Go, for he is My chosen vessel, to proclaim My name before the nations and kings and the children of Israel.

(Acts 9:15)

Ananias went and entered the house and, laying his hands on him, said: Brother Saul! The Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the path you walked, sent me so that you could receive your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.

(Acts 9:17)

But I do not look at anything and do not value my life, just to finish my race with joy and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to preach the Gospel of the grace of God.

(Acts 20:24)

And now, behold, I know that all of you among whom I walked preaching the Kingdom of God will no longer see my face.

(Acts 20:25)

Therefore I testify to you this day that I am clean from the blood of all,

(Acts 20:26)

for I did not fail to proclaim to you the whole will of God.

(Acts 20:27)

to open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, and through faith in Me they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance with those who are sanctified.”

(Acts 26:18)

But even if you suffer for the truth, then you are blessed; but do not be afraid of their fear and do not be embarrassed.

(1 Peter 3:14)

If they slander you because of the name of Christ, then you are blessed, for the Spirit of Glory, the Spirit of God, rests on you. By these He is blasphemed, but by you He is glorified.

(1 Peter 4:14)

Therefore, brethren, strive more and more to make your calling and election firm; If you do this, you will never stumble,

(2 Peter 1:10)

For we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, not by following cunningly woven fables, but by being eyewitnesses of His majesty.

(2 Peter 1:16)

and save others with fear, tearing them out of the fire, but reprove others with fear, abhorring even clothing that is defiled by the flesh.

(Jude 1:23)

For the Scripture says to Pharaoh: For this very purpose I raised you up, that I might show My power over you, and that My name might be preached throughout all the earth.

(Romans 9:17)

to be a servant of Jesus Christ among the pagans and to perform the sacred act of the gospel of God, so that this offering of the pagans, being sanctified by the Holy Spirit, would be acceptable to God.

(Romans 15:16)

Moreover, I tried to preach the gospel not where the name of Christ was already known, so as not to build on someone else’s foundation,

(Romans 15:20)

but as it is written: Those who have not had news of Him will see, and those who have not heard will know.

(Romans 15:21)

This is what prevented me from coming to you many times.

(Romans 15:22)

For the word about the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

(1 Corinthians 1:18)

For it is written: I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and destroy the understanding of the prudent.

(1 Corinthians 1:19)

For when the world through its wisdom did not know God in the wisdom of God, it pleased God through the foolishness of preaching to save those who believe.

(1 Corinthians 1:21)

Look, brethren, who you are who are called: not many of you are wise according to the flesh, not many of you are strong, not many of you are noble;

(1 Corinthians 1:26)

so that no flesh should boast before God.

(1 Corinthians 1:29)

so that it may be as it is written: He who boasts, boast in the Lord.

(1 Corinthians 1:31)

I planted, Apollos watered, but God increased;

(1 Corinthians 3:6)

Therefore, the one who plants and the one who waters is nothing, but God who increases everything.

(1 Corinthians 3:7)

He who plants and he who waters are one; but each will receive his reward according to his labor.

(1 Corinthians 3:8)

For we are fellow workers with God, and you are God’s field, God’s building.

(1 Corinthians 3:9)

So the Lord commanded those who preach the Gospel to live from the gospel.

(1 Corinthians 9:14)

For if I preach the gospel, then I have nothing to boast about, because this is my necessary duty, and woe to me if I do not preach the gospel!

(1 Corinthians 9:16)

For if I do this voluntarily, I will have a reward; and if it is involuntary, then I perform only the service entrusted to me.

(1 Corinthians 9:17)

For, being free from everyone, I enslaved myself to everyone, in order to gain more:

(1 Corinthians 9:19)

to the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might win the Jews; to those under the law he was as one under the law, in order to gain those under the law;

(1 Corinthians 9:20)

for those who are strangers to the law - as one who is strangers to the law - not being alien to the law before God, but under the law of Christ - in order to win those who are strangers to the law;

(1 Corinthians 9:21)

He was like one who is weak to the weak, so that he might gain the weak. I became everything to everyone, in order to save at least some.

(1 Corinthians 9:22)

I do this for the sake of the Gospel, to be a partaker of it.

(1 Corinthians 9:23)

Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the reward? So run to get it.

(1 Corinthians 9:24)

All ascetics abstain from everything: those to receive a perishable crown, and we to receive an incorruptible crown.

(1 Corinthians 9:25)

but I subdue and enslave my body, so that, while preaching to others, I myself may not remain unworthy.

(1 Corinthians 9:27)

Give no offense either to the Jews or to the Greeks, or to the church of God,

(1 Corinthians 10:32)

just as I please everyone in everything, seeking not my own benefit, but the benefit of many, so that they may be saved.

(1 Corinthians 10:33)

and the services are different, but the Lord is the same;

(1 Corinthians 12:5)

If the whole church comes together, and everyone begins to speak in unknown tongues, and those who do not know or do not believe come in to you, will they not say that you are mad?

(1 Corinthians 14:23)

But when everyone prophesies, and someone who doesn’t believe or doesn’t know comes in, he is convicted by everyone, judged by everyone.

(1 Corinthians 14:24)

And thus the secrets of his heart are revealed, and he will fall on his face, worship God and say: truly God is with you.

(1 Corinthians 14:25)

you show by yourself that you are a letter of Christ, through our ministry written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone, but on tablets of flesh of the heart.

(2 Corinthians 3:3)

not because we ourselves are able to think something from ourselves, as if from ourselves, but our ability is from God.

(2 Corinthians 3:5)

He gave us the ability to be ministers of the New Testament, not of the letter, but of the spirit, because the letter kills, but the spirit gives life.

(2 Corinthians 3:6)

To this day, when they read Moses, a veil lies over their heart;

(2 Corinthians 3:15)

but when they turn to the Lord, then this veil is removed.

(2 Corinthians 3:16)

But if our gospel is hid, it is hid to those who are perishing,

(2 Corinthians 4:3)

for the unbelievers, whose minds the god of this age has blinded, so that the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of the invisible God, should not shine for them.

(2 Corinthians 4:4)

Therefore, I am content in weaknesses, in insults, in needs, in persecutions, in oppressions for Christ’s sake, for when I am weak, then I am strong.

(2 Corinthians 12:10)

A little leaven leavens the whole dough.

(Galatians 5:9)

Instructed by the word, share every good thing with the one who instructs.

(Galatians 6:6)

Therefore I, a prisoner of the Lord, urge you to walk worthy of the calling to which you have been called,

(Ephesians 4:1)

And He appointed some apostles, others prophets, others evangelists, others shepherds and teachers,

(Ephesians 4:11)

and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

(Ephesians 6:15)

and about me, that the word might be given to me to openly and boldly proclaim with my mouth the mystery of the gospel,

(Ephesians 6:19)

because it has been given to you for the sake of Christ not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for Him

(Philippians 1:29)

if you remain strong and steadfast in the faith, and do not lose heart in the hope of the gospel which you have heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, have become a minister.

(Colossians 1:23)

whom we preach, admonishing every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus;

(Colossians 1:28)

Pray also for us, that God will open the door for us to speak, to proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains,

(Colossians 4:3)

because our gospel to you was not only in word, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit, and with much assurance, as you yourselves know, what we were like among you.

(1 Thessalonians 1:5)

but, just as God has deigned to entrust us with the gospel, so we speak, pleasing not men, but God, who tests our hearts.

(1 Thessalonians 2:4)

Try to present yourself worthy to God, a workman who does not need to be ashamed, faithfully dividing the word of truth.

(2 Timothy 2:15)

instruct your opponents with meekness, lest God give them repentance to the knowledge of the truth,

(2 Timothy 2:25)

so that they will be freed from the snare of the devil, who has ensnared them in his will.

(2 Timothy 2:26)

And all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.

(2 Timothy 3:12)

preach the word, be persistent in season and out of season, reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long-suffering and edification.

(2 Timothy 4:2)

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires they will heap up for themselves teachers, having itching ears;

(2 Timothy 4:3)

and they will turn away their ears from the truth and turn to fables.

(2 Timothy 4:4)

But be vigilant in everything, endure sorrows, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.

(2 Timothy 4:5)

I have fought the good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith;

(2 Timothy 4:7)

and now there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who loved His appearance.

(2 Timothy 4:8)

The heretic, after the first and second admonition, turn away,

(Titus 3:10)

Therefore we, having such a cloud of witnesses around us, let us lay aside every burden and the sin that besets us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

(Hebrews 12:1)

And when He opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been killed for the word of God and for the testimony that they had.

(Revelation 6:9)

And white clothes were given to each of them, and they were told to rest for a little while longer, until their fellow servants and their brothers, who would be killed like them, would complete the number.

(Revelation 6:11)

And I saw another angel flying in the midst of heaven, who had the everlasting gospel to preach to them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people;

(Revelation 14:6)

and he said with a loud voice: Fear God and give glory to Him, for the hour of His judgment has come, and worship Him who made heaven and earth, and the sea and springs of water.

(Revelation 14:7)

Both the Spirit and the bride say: come! And let him who hears say come! Let him who is thirsty come, and let him who desires take the water of life freely.

(Revelation 22:17)

When were the Bible and Gospel created?

Photo: Hram-orbita.cerkov.ru
Currently, it is problematic to even determine the century when this or that sacred text was written. The first texts of the Gospel were created in the 2nd-3rd centuries AD. e. According to some studies, the authors who created them lived in the 1st century. n. e., so the texts may be older than officially believed.

With the Bible there is a little more certainty. The Old Testament is believed to have been written from 1513 BC to 443 BC. The New Testament was written from 41 to 98 AD.

Writing language

The Bible was written by different people over more than 1600 years, and, therefore, it combines texts in different languages. The Old Testament is predominantly written in Hebrew, but there are also writings in Aramaic. The New Testament was written primarily in ancient Greek.

The Gospel is written in Greek. However, one should not confuse that Greek not only with the modern language, but also with the one in which the best works of antiquity were written. This language was close to the ancient Attic dialect and was called the “Koine dialect.”

The main differences between the Gospel and the Bible

There are several key points to distinguish between these holy books:

  1. The Gospel is one of the constituent parts of the Bible related to the texts of the New Testament.
  2. The Bible began to be written much earlier (around the 15th century BC), and was written over the course of 1600 years.
  3. The Gospel describes the life of Jesus Christ on earth and his resurrection. The Bible additionally contains information about the creation of the world by the Almighty, what role he played in the life of the Jews, how he directly influenced them, etc. The Bible places a lot of emphasis on the need for every person to be held accountable for every action they take.
  4. If the Gospel is written in ancient Greek, then the Bible includes sacred texts in different languages.
  5. It is believed that the Bible was written by ordinary inspired people. There is still debate about the true authors of the Gospel. The basic version is that there were four evangelists: Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, who gave their names to each of the Gospels.

Old Testament

What is the Old Testament about? In the book of Genesis we read about God's creation of the universe; then the book tells about the life of the Jewish people during the time of Egyptian slavery, wandering through the desert and receiving the Ten Commandments by the people. It is these 10 commandments that constitute the essence of the Old (Old) Covenant of God with the people of Israel.

The Bible was written over one and a half millennia by different authors. The main languages of writing are Hebrew and Aramaic. How was the Bible written? It is believed that all the texts of the holy scriptures were inspired by God. That is, a person only wrote down what he felt in his heart and thoughts under the guidance of God.

The Old Testament can be perceived as an artistic biography and as a divinely inspired teaching, a testimony to the miracles and power of God.

Centuries pass before us in the description of biblical stories, we read the words of wisdom of Solomon and the psalms of David, full of internal contradiction. The messages of the prophets evoke horror and despair, and the endless wars of the Jews for the Promised Land lead to confusion.

But all this already belongs to the past, since after Jesus Christ the New Testament was concluded. This is a covenant of love and trust between God and the peoples of the earth. This covenant opens a new history of mankind, full of joyful hopes and gratitude for miraculous salvation from the punishments for sins.
