The most convenient place to visit for pilgrimage is the Intercession Monastery - it is conveniently located, where most of the relics of Matrona and her miraculous icon are kept.

Pokrovsky Stauropegial Convent, Moscow

The monastery is especially popular among Orthodox women who suffer from infertility. The miraculous icon and the holy spring on the territory of the courtyard repeatedly helped women become pregnant and testify to the miracle. Since 1998, the monastery on Taganka has kept the relics of the old woman in a beautiful shrine; the nuns never refuse pilgrims prayer and communication. Everyone who goes there talks about the feeling of incredible calm and peace that they felt there. Pilgrims flock here from all over Russia, and often come from abroad - all in order to honor the Lord and touch the Orthodox relic.

The monastery houses not only the relics of the old woman, but also:

  1. Her miraculous icon.
  2. Source of water - there you can fill your own bottles with water or buy sealed ones in the monastery.
  3. Church shop - here you can buy candles, icons, blessed oil and holy water.

The monastery on Taganka is very large, its territory contains a refectory where pilgrims can eat, a playground where children can play, and temple premises where they can take part in worship. You can venerate the relics both during the service and in the breaks between them. They are kept in the main temple hall in a special shrine where pilgrims line up.

Advice! Since the Intercession Monastery is popular, there are always a lot of pilgrims there and a person eager to kneel should come in advance and on weekdays. Daily access to the relics is open, so there is no need to choose a special time.

There are always two lines on the territory of the monastery: the first to the temple where the relics are kept, the second to the large icon of the old woman, which is located on the outer wall of the temple in the form of a fresco. It is worth noting that Matrona’s cancer never leaves the territory of the monastery.

History and architecture of the Intercession Monastery

On the territory of the monastery there is a single-domed Cathedral of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, also known as the Church of the Matrona of Moscow on Taganka, as well as the five-domed Church of the Resurrection of the Word and a three-tier bell tower. The temples are surrounded by the vast Tagansky Park; there is a holy spring on the territory.

The monastery has a church shop where icons of St. Matrona are sold in a variety of formats - from small pocket ones to large church formats; you can also buy church utensils, oil, candles, books and much more.

The height of the bell tower of the Intercession Monastery is 30 meters

In old times, on the site of the monastery there was a cemetery where homeless people, vagabonds and wanderers were buried. In the 17th century, Tsar Mikhail Fedorovich ordered the founding of a monastery here, and at first it was called that - the monastery on Poor Houses.

The stone one-domed Cathedral of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built in 1655, rebuilt in 1806–1814, the Church of the Resurrection of the Word was built in the 18th century.

During the Patriotic War of 1812, the monastery was occupied by a general of Napoleon's army, and it was almost completely destroyed. The monastery was damaged for the second time in the 1920s. The times of the New Economic Policy turned out to be the most disastrous for him - the bell tower was blown up, various offices and entertainment establishments were opened in the former monastic monasteries and classrooms of the theological seminary. In the post-war years, the monastery fell into complete desolation, and only in the mid-1990s was it revived and again transferred to the Russian Orthodox Church.

What do people ask Saint Matrona for?

It is impossible to list all human suffering and problems, because these are life’s sorrows, human ones, serious illnesses of loved ones, the suffering of a child, the betrayal of a loved one. Mothers ask to return their dissolute son, lost in life, to his father’s house. The men ask the old woman to help resolve financial difficulties and help save the family. Young people look to Matrona for advice on how to continue to live and how to find the way to God. Girls, desperate to find a real man, ask Matron to help with this. All the troubles cannot be counted, but the sick especially strive to get to this temple. Matronushka will hear everyone and help, you have to believe in this and know that a miracle will happen.

Prayer in front of her icon helps in all troubles and sorrowful torments. It is very significant that the saint strengthens faith and shows the true path to the Lord.

Holy Blessed Matrona of Moscow

Matrona of Moscow is one of the most revered Orthodox saints. During her lifetime, she became famous as a great benefactor. There were always pilgrims in her house, whom Elder Matrona helped, instructed, healed, and prayed for. Even during her lifetime, she was revered by the monks of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra.

Matrona was born in the Tula province, the fourth child in a poor peasant family, with elderly parents. She was born blind, with underdeveloped eyeballs. At first, Natalya Nikitichna and Dmitry Ivanovich Nikonov wanted to abandon the blind girl and give her to an orphanage in the neighboring village of Buchalki. But one day the mother had a prophetic dream: a beautiful white bird flew to her chest, and the woman saw that the bird was blind. Then she realized that her daughter needed to be left in the family.

From early childhood, Matrona discovered deep faith in the Lord and the ability to heal and predict the future. At a young age, her legs were paralyzed, but this did not stop Saint Matrona from traveling and making pilgrimages to holy places.

Life says that Elder Matrona was able to predict her own death in three days, and until the last day she did not stop hosting the suffering. Her grave was also a popular place of pilgrimage for several decades, until the relics were transferred to the Intercession Monastery on Taganka. Matrona of Moscow was canonized in 2004.

And today, dozens of people come every day to the Temple of the Matrona of Moscow in the Intercession Monastery, bringing fresh flowers, most often white roses and chrysanthemums, which Matrona loved most, and Matronushka helps all those who suffer. According to believers, the holy blessed Matrona helps in a variety of troubles and sorrows: serious illnesses, loss of loved ones, infertility.

To the relics of Saint Matrona. 6.09.2020

Dear brothers and sisters! On September 6, I made a trip to the relics of St. Matrona! I successfully sent notes, candles, prayers and flowers from all of you!

So the summer has passed... September has arrived. But along with the sadness of parting with the summer months, September also brings with it the joy of big holidays! So on September 8, the celebration of the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God takes place. September 13 Position of the Belt of the Blessed Virgin Mary. And September 21 is the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary! Next, September 27 - Exaltation of the Holy Cross.

Blessed Matrona honored all these holidays with a special religious feeling. Therefore, we should pray and not be sad about the past summer. Autumn will pass quickly, and then a snow-white winter will arrive. )

And yet, when the last roses bloom, it’s impossible not to stare...

This photo was taken during a current trip to the Intercession Monastery. The weather was sunny and warm like summer. ) The crowded monastery created a solemn mood! Pilgrims stood in a long line in line to bring the holy relics to the Intercession Church. They lined up in front of the miraculous icon of Mother. They also reached out in chains to the Bell Tower, for holy water and to the church bench for candles.

To the relics of Saint Matrona

My children and I, according to the monastery’s rule, can go to the relics without a queue. When the line is small, I join it, but most often I walk along the line. After all, before visiting the relics of Matronushka, the children and I first stand at the Sunday Liturgy for about 2 hours. And, as you know, it is advisable to go to the morning service on an empty stomach. Therefore, with tired and rather hungry children, we go without a queue. )

Before the relics, we go to the church shop, where we order prayer services and buy flowers. We also buy some prosphora, which we use right away to maintain our strength. Both delicious and beneficial!

Having passed the notes, we headed to the silver shrine with candles (and pre-purchased flowers). In its entryway stands a small silver tomb, and in it are the celibate relics of Matronushka.

Having passed flowers and candles to the relics of Saint Matrona, we made several bows from the waist. I whispered my requests. I also asked Blessed Matronushka to read all our letters, which I attached to the relics.

When leaving, the children were given a sprig of chrysanthemums, two white and one lilac. It turned out to be a beautiful bouquet. )

Then we immediately went to get holy water, which we drank copiously. Then we walked around the territory of the monastery, inspiring ourselves with the prayer of pilgrims. After all, when you see the fervent prayer of others, you yourself want to pray fervently!

I believe that blessed Matrona sees all the people who come to her. Hears their prayers. And he intercedes for them before the Lord! I also, undoubtedly, believe that Mother sees and hears all of us! Everyone who sent letters. I printed them out and attached them to the relics. Now we need to pray and hope for the participation of Saint Matrona in our lives. And if our requests are soul-saving for us, then the Lord will fulfill them! Through the prayers of Blessed Matrona!

A story about miraculous help sent to the editor by site visitor Elena:

"Good afternoon. I am very grateful to you for such a site. May the Lord bless the site creators every day. I want to write to you that dear Matronushka helped us pay off our unreasonable debts and loans this month. I was in despair, I didn’t sleep. Help has arrived. Paid. And most importantly, my husband and I realized that we couldn’t live like this, in debt. With God's help, we will pay off our debts and improve. We pray very much for pregnancy, for our daughter. We have been praying for 20 years, we believe that Matronushka will help. I’ll write about the trial right away. I have already written that I have been reading the akathist since May, praying, and have been healed of my illness. I've been sick all my life. Thank God for everything and dear Matronushka and all the saints!”
