The behavior of the Sodomites went so far beyond the bounds of all decency that God decided to punish them exemplarily by destroying both the cities and all their inhabitants. In the form of three men, He appeared to Abraham and told about the impending punishment. Abraham, knowing that his nephew Lot lived in the doomed area, tried to dissuade God.
He asked to spare the cities for the sake of the righteous who might be there, and received a promise that these cities would be pardoned if at least ten righteous people were found in them.
There were no righteous people there, as we know, but to check if this was so, two angels were sent to Sodom under the guise of travelers. Lot received them into his home as honored guests. But the people of Sodom found out about the guests and demanded that Lot give them to them for fun.
They began to break down the door, but were blinded by the angels, who announced to Lot that God had sent them to punish this city. And Lot must immediately gather his family and go to the mountains.

This is roughly what the story of Sodom and Gomorrah sounds like in the biblical account.
Archaeologists and historians have been trying for many years to verify how much of what is written in the Torah corresponds to reality. Dozens of studies were carried out over the years, but the exact location of these cities could not be determined. After all, according to the Torah, Sodom and Gomorrah were simply wiped off the face of the earth.

Will there be ten righteous people?
Every generation has its Sodom. However, our generation is significantly different from previous ones. Today the world has become global and it has become clear that we are all interconnected in it. Our well-being and life itself now depend not only on ourselves and the policies of our state, but also on what is happening in countries far from us.
And therefore, in order to survive in this interconnected world, we need solidarity, consistency of action and mutual responsibility. Nature itself, or the Creator, requires this from us. (According to Kabbalah, these are the same thing). The Creator demands from us ideal communication, when everyone works in maximum return to others, receiving everything they need for themselves.
The cities of Sodom and Gomorrah became history a long time ago, but the worldview of their inhabitants has not completely disappeared from our world. Moreover, the development of egoism in us has led to the fact that it has turned into a kind of culture that has become a threat to the spiritual elevation of the world.

Sodom in the modern world

God clearly expressed His will for repentant sinners through the prophet Ezekiel: “Say to them: As I live, says the Lord God, I do not want the death of the sinner, but that the sinner should turn from his way and live” (Ezek. 33:11). Therefore, here everything depends not on the favor of God, but on a person’s ability to learn the gift of forgiveness taught by God (the priest is only a conductor of Divine grace). What do I mean by these words? – It is necessary to enter a state of spiritual poverty, born from a person’s vision of his sin (it’s as if, having run into a nail, we feel pain). Our usual state is spiritual blindness and a petrified inability to feel our falls. So, the condition for assimilation of the gift of God's forgiveness is the acquisition of the state of the gospel publican, or a prudent thief. But in order to acquire this condition, you will need to work hard. The intensity and duration of spiritual work directly depends on the severity of the sins committed (just as the period of healing from a bodily wound depends on its depth).
