Sometimes, to study the history of any nation, it is not enough just to read books from the library and repeatedly review museum exhibits and relics. It is worth visiting one of the local necropolises to get a general idea of the whole era. Troekurovskoye Cemetery is precisely such a place where the centuries-old history of the cultural heritage of mankind is collected. Celebrity graves, a list of outstanding scientists, historians, inventors, filmmakers and other creative personalities can be found here. Let's take a look here right now.
Troyekurovskoe cemetery. Celebrity graves
This necropolis was founded in ancient times at the personal estate of the Troekurov boyars. Nearby, the 17th-century St. Nicholas Church, built in the Moscow Baroque style, has been preserved. In the 1970s, the territory of the necropolis increased significantly due to part of the manor park and adjacent fields. The graves of celebrities at the Troekurovsky cemetery are conventionally divided into “old” (to the left of the entrance) and “new” (to the right). In general, the prestigious necropolis can be considered a branch of Novodevichy, with the difference that Troekurovsky has more burials from the 1990s - 2000s.
History of the necropolis
The cemetery was founded in 1962. In the 17th century, the estates of the boyar family Troyekurov were located here. The master's surname was also assigned to the village, which became known as Troekurovo-Khoroshevo. The original name of the area is associated with the beauty of the local nature.
All that remains of the ancient settlement and the manor’s estate are a few ponds and the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, which was closed during the Soviet period. Since 1991, it has been an active temple and a landmark of the area.
During the years of Soviet power, a decree was issued on the creation of a branch of the Novodevichy cemetery on this territory, called the Troyekurovskoye cemetery. In Moscow, the graves of celebrities can be found in other graveyards, but this particular necropolis became the resting place of both Soviet and Russian cultural figures, military leaders and other important persons.
The funeral home was erected in 1975; the main purpose of the necropolis was to perpetuate the names of heroes of the Soviet Union, party leaders, and people who distinguished themselves in science and art. Regarding who is buried in the Troekurovsky cemetery of celebrities, the administration has detailed lists with the names of the deceased.
Description of the complex
The Moscow necropolis, or translated from Greek as “city of the dead,” Troekurovo has an area of 20 hectares. This information is indicated in the plan diagram, which can be viewed by any visitor.
All symbols are color coded and have easy to understand symbols. Due to the fact that its territory is landscaped, and the monuments and memorial complexes are luxurious and beautiful, the churchyard has gained the status of the most prestigious in the capital.

Troekurovo is a closed cemetery. Funeral permission is issued by specialized authorities and the Moscow government. Free sites are provided only in two cases:

Unknown celebrities
The names of scientists and designers of rocket technology, developers of ultra-long-range communication systems, organizers of the space industry, and managers of cosmodromes were not disclosed during their lifetime. Multiple winners of State Prizes are unknown celebrities - their names are declassified only posthumously in laconic tombstone inscriptions.
In the same way, the names and activities of illegal intelligence officers are kept strictly confidential. Hero of the Soviet Union Gevork Vartanyan, a Soviet intelligence agent “Amir” who worked in Iran, is buried at the Troekurovsky cemetery. His group prevented an assassination attempt on Stalin, Churchill and Roosevelt during the meeting of the three world leaders at the Tehran Conference in 1943. This operation became the basis for the film “Tehran-43”, and “Amir” itself was completely declassified only in 2000. A large-scale memorial with a full-length bronze figure of a scout was erected on his grave.
Circus arena: alone with predators
At first glance, the circus performer is not a secret person at all; all spectators can see him in the arena. But those who obey tigers and lions probably know special secrets of training. Under a dark stele with a gray bas-relief of a circus backstage and a bronze medallion with a lion and an elegant female figure rests the People's Artist of the USSR, the legendary lion tamer Irina Bugrimova. She gracefully and as if “comfortably” sat on a “carpet” of formidable predators laid out in a row, her lions jumped through a ring of fire, rode a motorcycle, and walked along a wire. During her circus career, Irina Bugrimova trained 80 powerful animals.
Walter Zapashny, a representative of the old circus dynasty, began training large predatory animals at the age of 28. At the age of 33, he gathered 38 predators in one attraction and rode a lion for the first time in the history of the world circus. His wife Tatyana, as well as his sons Askold and Edgard, who are now continuing their father’s work, performed with him. At the grave of Walter Zapashny, a bronze tamer and a bronze lion sat on a dark stone barrier, as if in front of them was still a circus arena.

The inscription “Nemtsov” and five holes symbolizing bullet marks are stamped on it.
