Wives of Adam and Eve's children: where did they come from?

Long-lived patriarch

Reading the Book of Genesis, an attentive reader can calculate that Adam lived a total of about 900 years. He spent most of this time with Eve. The famous ancient philosopher and interpreter of the Holy Scriptures, Josephus Flavius, wrote that over the entire period of time, Eve gave birth to 33 sons and 22 daughters. In the absence of other opportunities and restrictions on consanguinity, brothers and sisters could marry without hindrance. Considering that the grandchildren and great-grandchildren of the first people also had a colossal life span, their offspring were extremely numerous.

The Last Adam.

God has provided a way to save us from our lost state.

Paul explains in 1 Corinthians that God sent another Adam! The Son of God became a man - a perfect man, but at the same time our relative! He is called the “last Adam” (1 Corinthians 15:45) because he took the place of the first Adam. He became the new head, and because he was sinless, he was able to pay the penalty for sin:

“For as death came through man, so also came the resurrection of the dead through man. Just as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will live” (1 Corinthians 15:21,22)

Christ suffered death (the penalty for sin) on the Cross, shedding His blood (without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness - Hebrews 9:22) so that all those who trusted Him for this would repent of their sins of disobedience (in Adam) and were reunited with God.

Thus, only the descendants of Adam can be saved.

Cain

The eldest of the sons of Adam and Eve, according to the Book of Genesis, after the murder of his brother Abel, moved to the lands of Nod, located east of Eden, where he “knew his wife.” In the Bible, the name of the woman who gave birth to Cain's son Enoch and other children is not indicated, but in the post-biblical tradition there are several options: Cain's sisters Avan, Sheba, Kalmana and Klima. Moreover, according to the Midrash (section of the Torah), one of the possible reasons for the discord between Cain and Abel could be Abel's twin sister, whom Cain wanted to marry. Considering the age at which Eve gave birth to children, it can also be assumed that Cain’s wife was his great-niece, the daughter or granddaughter of one of the children of Adam and Eve who moved to other lands.

The Bible does not specifically say who Cain's wife was. The only possible answer is that Cain's wife was his sister or niece. The Bible does not indicate Cain's age when he killed Abel (Genesis 4:8). And since they both cultivated the land, they were most likely already adult men and, possibly, had their own families.

Adam and Eve had other children besides Cain and Abel.

Genesis 5:4

The days of Adam after he begat Seth were eight hundred years, and he begat sons and daughters.

The fact that Cain feared for his life after killing Abel indicates that there were other children, and perhaps even grandchildren, of Adam and Eve at this time.

Genesis 4:14

behold, You are now driving me from the face of the earth, and I will hide from Your presence, and I will be an exile and a wanderer on the earth; and whoever meets me will kill me.

Thus, Cain's wife was the daughter or granddaughter of Adam.

Genesis 4:17

And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived and gave birth to Enoch. And he built a city; and he named the city after the name of his son: Enoch.

Since Adam and Eve were the first (and only) humans, their children had to marry each other. God prohibited intra-family marriages much later, when there were enough people to eliminate the need for such marriages.

Leviticus 18:6–18

No one should approach any relative according to the flesh in order to reveal nakedness. I am the Lord. You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father or the nakedness of your mother; she is your mother; you shall not uncover her nakedness. You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father's wife; it is the nakedness of your father. The nakedness of your sister, your father's daughter, or your mother's daughter, whether born in the house or outside the house, you shall not uncover their nakedness. The nakedness of your son's daughter or your daughter's daughter, do not reveal their nakedness, for they are your nakedness. The nakedness of the daughter of your father's wife, born of your father, she is your sister by father's side, do not uncover her nakedness. Do not reveal the nakedness of your father’s sister, she is your father’s half-blood. Do not reveal the nakedness of your mother’s sister, for she is your mother’s half-blood. Do not reveal the nakedness of your father's brother, and do not approach his wife: she is your aunt. You shall not uncover the nakedness of your daughter-in-law; she is your son’s wife; you shall not uncover her nakedness. Do not uncover the nakedness of your brother's wife, it is your brother's nakedness. Do not reveal the nakedness of your wife and daughter; Do not take her son's daughter and her daughter's daughter to reveal their nakedness, they are her half-blood; this is lawlessness. Do not take a wife along with her sister, to make her a rival, to expose her nakedness in her presence, during her lifetime.

Incest of people with similar genetics often results in genetic abnormalities in their offspring. The likelihood of genetic abnormalities increases if the father and mother have the same genetic problems (for example, a brother and sister). For spouses from different families, the possibility of the same genetic defects is minimal. Over the centuries, the human genetic code has become extremely contaminated as genetic defects accumulate, mutate, and pass on from generation to generation. Since Adam and Eve had no genetic defects, this allowed them and the first generations of their descendants to enjoy much better health than we currently enjoy. The children of Adam and Eve, even if they had genetic defects, were very minor, that is, intra-family marriages were safe for them. It is difficult for us to imagine that Cain's wife was his sister, but at first, since God created one man and one woman, the second generation of people simply had no choice but to marry their brothers and sisters.

Mythical and real

The Hebrew authors did not take the opportunity to have healthy children from repeated consanguineous marriages out of their own imaginations. In addition to the Old Testament, the insignificance of the problem of degeneration in the ancient world is confirmed by the history of the dynasties of the ancient Egyptian pharaohs. Considered "gods in the flesh", they could not take partners other than relatives, and separate dynasties ruled for many centuries. As a result of incest, such great figures as Cheops and Djoser were born and ruled. Thus, the Christian assertion that all people are brothers and sisters takes on a completely practical character.

Why is it important ?

Many argued that in order for Cain to find a wife, there would have to be other “races” of people on Earth who, by their origin, were not descendants of Adam and Eve. For many people, this issue is a stumbling block in accepting the book of Genesis and the record that at the beginning of history there was only one man and one woman on Earth. Proponents of the gospel must be able to prove that all human creatures are the descendants of one man and one woman (Adam and Eve) - since only the descendants of Adam and Eve can be saved. Therefore, believers need to address the issue of Cain's wife and clearly show that she was a descendant of Adam and Eve.

Bible Reading:

Genesis 4:1 - Genesis 5:5 One of the most asked questions is “Where did Cain find his wife?” In order to answer this question, we first need to go to the primary source, information regarding the meaning of the Gospel.

First man.

“Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, so death spread to all men, because all sinned.” (Romans 5:12)

We read in 1 Corinthians 15:45 that Adam was “the first man.” God did not start by creating an entire “race” of people.

The Bible clearly states that ONLY the descendants of Adam can be saved. In Romans 5 we read that we sin because Adam sinned. The punishment of death that Adam received for his disobedience passed on to all his descendants.

Adam was the head of humanity, so when he “fell,” we, his descendants, also “fell.” Thus, we are all separated from God. The end result of sin would be to eternally separate us from God in our sinful state. However, it is joyful to admit that there is a way for us to return to God!

Man brought sin and death into the world, so all of humanity, and these are all the descendants of Adam, needed a sinless Man who could atone for the punishment for sin and the resulting death. However, the Bible indicates that “all have sinned” (Romans 3: 23) What was the resolution of this issue?

First man

“Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, so death spread to all men, because all sinned” (Romans 5:12).

1 Corinthians 15:45 we read that Adam was “the first man.” God did not begin by creating a group of people.

The Bible is clear that only the descendants of Adam can be saved. Romans 5 teaches that we sin because Adam sinned. The death sentence that Adam received as punishment for his sin of fighting against God passed on to all his descendants.

Since Adam was the head of the human race when he “fell,” we, being in the loins of Adam, also “fell.” Thus, we are all separated from God. The ultimate consequence of sin would be to separate us from God in a sinful state forever. However, the good news is that we can return to God!

Because man brought sin and death into the world, all of Adam's descendants need a sinless man to bear the penalty for sin and endure the resulting death for us. However, the Bible says that “all have sinned” (Romans 3:23). How to solve this problem?

Where did the technology come from?

Some claim that in order for Cain to go to the land of Nod and build a city, he would need technology that would already exist in that land, and it is assumed that it was developed by other "kinds".

However, the descendants of Adam and Eve were very smart people. Jubal made musical instruments such as the harp and pipe (Genesis 4:21), and Tubalcain worked with copper and iron (Genesis 4:22).

Due to the intensive drumming of evolutionary ideas into the head, many people today think that the current generation is the smartest of all who have lived on our planet. But just because we have jets and computers doesn't mean we're smarter than everyone else. Modern technologies are the result of the accumulation of knowledge. We stand on the shoulders of all those who came before us.

Our brains have suffered from 6,000 years of Curse (since Adam). We have greatly degenerated compared to people who lived many generations ago. Perhaps now we cannot compare in intelligence or ingenuity with the children of Adam and Eve. Scripture throws some light upon us of what appears to be enormous original ingenuity.[16]

Everyone is related

According to the Bible, all people are sinners and we are all relatives (Acts 17:26 - From one blood He made the human race to dwell on all the face of the earth), the Gospel is understandable only on the basis of the fact that all people living and ever living (with the exception of the first women7) are the descendants of the first man - Adam. If this were not true, the gospel could not be explained or defended.

Thus, in the beginning there was only one man - created from the dust of the earth. (Genesis 2:7)

This also means that Cain's wife was a descendant of Adam. She could not have descended from another "race" of people and was therefore one of the descendants of Adam.

First woman

In Genesis 3:20 we read: “And Adam called his wife’s name Eve, for she became the mother of all living.” In other words, all people except Adam are descendants of Eve, she was the first woman.

Eve was created from Adam's rib (Genesis 3:21–24), it was a unique phenomenon. In the new testament, Jesus (Matthew 19:4–6) and Paul (Ephesians 5:31) use this historical and one-time event as the basis for marriage between one man and one woman.

Also, Genesis 2:20 says that when Adam looked at the animals, he could not find a helper like him.

All this makes it very clear that there was only one woman present, Adam's wife, from the very beginning. There could be no “race” of women.

Therefore, if Christians cannot defend the fact that all people (including Cain's wife) can trace their ancestry back to Adam and Eve, then how can they understand and explain the gospel? How can they justify sending missionaries to every tribe and nation? Therefore, everyone needs to be able to answer the question about Cain's wife, thereby illustrating that Christians can defend the Gospel and all that it teaches.

But what about the Law of God?

Many immediately reject the conclusion that Adam and Eve's children married each other, appealing to the law against marriage between brothers and sisters.
Some people say you can't marry your relative. But in essence, if you are not marrying a relative, you are not marrying a person! The wife is related to her husband even before they marry, because all people descend from Adam and Eve - they are all “of the same blood.” The law prohibiting marriage between close relatives was given only in the time of Moses (Leviticus 18-20). Provided that one man entered into a lifelong marriage with only one woman (based on Genesis 1 and), originally, when close relatives (even brothers and sisters) married each other, this was not disobedience to the law of God. Remember that Abraham was married to his half-sister (Genesis 20:12). God blessed their union to produce, through Isaac and Jacob, the Jewish people. Only 400 years after this, God gave Moses laws prohibiting such marriages.
