Church of St. Righteous John of Kronstadt in Cheryomushki. Schedule of services, history, photos

The temple in honor of St. John of Kronstadt is considered quite new - it was built in 1992. Initially, it was planned to build only a chapel, which was supposed to be adjacent to a Sunday school and a charity canteen for the poor. However, thanks to the decision taken at the same time to revive the Kazan Theological Seminary, the chapel was converted into a church: the space of the temple was increased and a bell tower was added. The theological seminary itself in Kazan existed since the 18th century, but after the revolution it was closed and began to be revived only in the 90s of the last century.

The construction of the Church of St. John of Kronstadt in Kazan was carried out with funds allocated by the Kazan diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church. Residents from all over the area also helped. The temple was built as a parish for several districts of the city at once. It was the first temple for those who lived far from the center, so many came and selflessly helped in any way they could in the construction work. From then to this day, the temple has remained a large community.

The Church of John of Kronstadt in Kazan was consecrated in 1996, the first service was conducted by the Metropolitan of Kazan and Tatarstan. A staff of priests and a choir were organized at the temple. The seminary opened in 1997. In the parish of the church, seminarians perform sexton and singing obediences, and read sermons. By undergoing practical training in this way, seminary students learn to understand how parish life works.

The Church of John of Kronstadt at the Kazan Theological Seminary was the first in Russia to be consecrated in honor of this righteous saint.

John of Kronstadt himself, in the world Ivan Sergiev, a native of the Arkhangelsk province, during his lifetime was greatly revered by believers for his pastoral service, sermons and especially charitable activities. Teachers and students, future shepherds turn to him for help, because as you know, only after diligent prayer did it become easier for the future saint to study the sciences.

The church is single-domed, originally made in blue-white-blue colors; not so long ago the walls were painted light yellow, and the roofs and domes acquired a dark green hue. The small building has two floors, with narrow arched windows in the walls. The Church of John of Kronstadt in Kazan was built of stone. The iconostasis of the temple is three-row:

  • The first row is local. To the right of the Royal Doors is the icon of Christ the Savior, to the left is the Most Holy Theotokos.
  • The second one is festive. Here are icons in honor of the twelve holidays.
  • The third is the Deesis, considered the main row.

The iconostasis is crowned with a crucifix and has carved gilded parts: these are columns and the Royal Doors, which before the revolution were in the Kazan Peter and Paul Cathedral. In the Kronstadt Church in Kazan there are two choirs: to the right of the lectern and on the gallery behind the main part of the temple. The sound thus seems to come from above. On ordinary days, one choir (5-7 people) sings, on special holidays - a mixed choir (up to 40 people).

The temple houses several shrines, including: the ancient image of the Smolensk-Sedmiezernaya Icon of the Mother of God, the relics of St. Gabriel of Sedmiezerny, the heavenly patron of the Kazan Seminary, and a number of revered icons.

Turning to the experience of temple architecture, in our works we try to restore and continue the tradition of the past.

The cathedral church of the Holy Great Martyr and Healer Panteleimon was built in the neo-Russian style with elements of Pskov-Novgorod architecture, which was very common in Russia at the end of the 19th century, but was interrupted by the events of 1917. The Church of Saint Righteous John of Kronstadt is designed in eclecticism with elements of Russian-Byzantine style.

Both churches are connected by a warm passage, which allows parishioners to move freely from one space to another without going outside.

The Church of St. Panteleimon consists of two parts (the cross-domed church is combined with a Romanesque basilica), its interiors resemble the Cathedral of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem. We deliberately preserved white walls in the interior in combination with wood and stone to emphasize the asceticism of the churches of the first centuries Christianity. On a white background, the first things that attract attention are mosaics, paintings, icon cases and troparion texts.

The Church of St. John of Kronstadt is distinguished by its iconostasis; the altar barrier in the Gethsemane Monastery in Jerusalem was taken as its basis. The combination of wood, stone and painting is a feature of eclecticism of the late 19th century. There are choirs along the entire perimeter of the temple, from which one can clearly see what is happening in the altar. This architectural solution allows those gathered for the Liturgy to deeply participate in the service.

The temple complex is crowned with domes and crosses of various shapes, which also give an idea of the richness of the styles of traditional Russian temple architecture.

On June 6, 2013, the laying of a stone and a commemorative letter took place at the foundation of the throne of the temple of the holy healer Panteleimon under construction.

On August 22, 2015, Metropolitan Georgy of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas performed the rite of the Great Consecration of the Cathedral Church.

Technical and economic indicators: Construction area - 360 m2 Total area - 590 m2 Construction volume - 8700 m3 - including the above-ground part - 7050 m3 - including the underground part - 1650 m3 Height to the cross ball (from mark 0.000) - 33 m Area of the main prayer hall - 230 m2

In 1996, residents of the village submitted a petition to Patriarch of the Orthodox Church Alexy II for the construction of a temple in the microdistrict. The monk approved the proposal, and soon a survey was conducted on the topic: “Who should we name the church after?” The population voted for Saint John of Kronstadt.
