Temple of the Praise of the Blessed Virgin Mary (church) in Zyablikovo

Historical events

On April 29, 2011, the “200 Temples” program was launched in Moscow. This is exactly the number of new Orthodox churches that should have been built in the Russian capital, so that there would be about 20 thousand people per church within a radius of about 1 km.

The Church of the Praise of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which it was decided to build in Zyablikovo, was to become a development of this program on the outskirts of Moscow. On July 8, 2012, the first prayer service took place on the site of the future building, after which the immediate construction of the new building offended the Lord began.

Church of the Praise of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Architects S. Goncharov and D. Rodionov designed the temporary construction of the future shrine, which was intended to ensure that the clergy had the opportunity to begin receiving the first parishioners as quickly as possible.

In the same year, a dome was installed in the temple, on top of which a cross was placed, an iconostasis, and consecration was carried out. A parish youth service was organized.

In 2013, an icon shop was opened on the territory of the future temple, and the development and approval of the project for the parable house was completed. By the end of the year, the organization of the parish social service was completed.

In 2014-2015 A Sunday school was opened at the temple, which passed the necessary certification. A parish consultant service was organized and a chapel was added. In 2016, a bell tower was installed.

In 2022, construction of a permanent temple began. On February 14, 2019, he was approved as chairman of the Foundation aimed at supporting the construction of churches in Moscow. By 2022, work on laying the foundation was completed.

Architecture, appearance

The Church of the Praise of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Zyablikovo is represented at the construction stage of the main building by a temporary one-story building. Its walls are covered with green metal profiles, and its blue gable roof has nothing in common with traditional church construction.

The fact that the temporary church belongs to an Orthodox building is revealed only by the inscription “Most Holy Theotokos, save us,” written in gilded letters on the front pediment above the main entrance.

There is a ramp near the main entrance to facilitate movement for people with disabilities, as well as a notice board where parishioners can find out news about construction.

In 2022, architect D.A. Rimsha, together with Archpriest Andrei Yurevich, who headed the working group on temple construction, developed an extraordinary project for a white-walled cathedral.

According to the approved sketch, the building will be a rectangular frame structure. The two-tier church will be complemented by a pair of side chapels. The main one is a symbol of the Praise of the Most Holy Theotokos, and a baptistery will be created in the chapel of Peter and Fevronia.

The fundamental idea for creating the church was Byzantine Orthodox traditions, which are uniquely combined with the centuries-old architecture of Pskov masters. The effect of “airiness” will be given to the structure by numerous semi-arches and arched ceilings, and the combination of the snow-white covering of the walls with a blue roof and golden crosses will become a symbol of the unity of the earthly land with the Heavenly Kingdom.

The main entrance, located in the western part of the temple complex, will be decorated with a panel depicting the Feast of the Praise of the Most Pure Mother of God, and on the southern side above the portal there will be the face of the faithful Peter and Fevronia. The products will be made of ceramic smalt.

The foundation of the building goes into the ground to a depth of at least 1 m. Its strip structure and high level of reinforcement create a reliable platform on which walls will be formed and objects approved by the construction plan will be placed.

Construction is carried out in compliance with all norms and quality standards.

Project of the future temple

The architects of the current Church of the Praise of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Zyablikovo, S. Goncharov and D. Rodionov, created a temporary structure for the future shrine.

Architect Denis Anatolyevich Rimsha created a unique project for a snow-white, magnificent cathedral, approved on February 14, 2019 by the chairman of the Foundation “Support for the Construction of Moscow Temples.”

Archpriest Andrei Yurevich took part in the design of the Church of Praise of the Most Holy Mother of God in the southern region of Moscow; he headed the working group in temple construction.

According to the project, the future church will be two-tiered with two chapels. The main one is the Praise of the Blessed Virgin Mary, in the second, Peter and Fevronia, a baptistery will be built.

The architecture is based on the Pskov style with borrowed elements from Byzantine churches. The building is given special grandeur by its airy arches and the combination of snow-white covering with blue domes and golden crosses.

The main entrance on the western side of the temple will be decorated with a panel depicting the Feast of the Praise of the Most Pure Mother of God, made of ceramic smalt. The southern portal at the entrance will be decorated with the holy face of the faithful Peter and Fevronia.

Interior decoration

The Church of the Praise of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Zyablikovo, in terms of interior decoration, will not be radically different from other churches built under the “200 churches” program.

According to the preliminary design, the interior of the main temple will repeat the interior decoration of the temporary building. The walls will have soft shades close to white. The premises will be illuminated using incandescent and LED lamps.

Currently, it is quite difficult for parishioners to imagine what exactly the interior decoration of the building will be like, because the project is constantly being supplemented and modified.

Shrines

The main shrine of the temple is the icon of the Praise of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Today it is located in the Assumption Cathedral of the Moscow Kremlin and is called Blachernae, however, its history goes deep into the past, when external enemies of the empire repeatedly threatened the capital of the Byzantine Empire - Constantinople.

The founder of Constantinople, Constantine the Great, revered the Blessed Virgin and considered her the patroness of his city. By his will, a large number of churches were erected in honor of the Intercessor, and the original icon painted by St. Evangelist Luke was kept in the Blachernae Church.

During the reign of Emperor Heraclius, Patriarch Sergius repeatedly walked along the walls of the ancient city with an icon of the Most Holy Theotokos in his hands, praying to the Lord asking for protection from the Scythians and Persians. The diligent prayers of the patriarch forced ordinary Romans to come to churches and turn to the Zeal Intercessor.

There is a legend that during the siege of the city by the troops of the Hagarians and Persians, a terrible storm arose over the Blachernae temple, which sank a significant part of the enemy fleet participating in the blockade of the city. Many enemies died along with the ships, and the rest fled. In gratitude for the help, the Romans proclaimed a song of praise to their Protectress in the city.

It is believed that the name of the Mother of God is also associated with Moscow. It appears several times in the Ipatiev Chronicle, when the Russian capital is first mentioned on the day of the Orthodox holiday of the Praise of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Icon of the Holy Blessed Prince Peter and Princess Fevronia

The second, but not inferior in value and significance, shrine of the temple is the icon of the holy faithful Prince Peter and Princess Fevronia - famous Murom miracle workers. These Russian Orthodox saints are considered our country's Valentine and Valentina. Their love, carried through the years, is holy and virgin.

They could not live without each other so much that they died on the same day and hour. Back in 1547, Peter and Fevronia were canonized at a church council and to this day are revered by the Russian Orthodox Church as saints.

In addition to the icons, the temple contains a reliquary with particles of the relics of the venerable fathers of the Kiev-Pechersk.

Praise to the Blessed Virgin Mary

On July 8, 2012, on the Day of Remembrance of Saints Peter and Fevronia, at the site in Orekhovoy Proezd, the rector of the future church in honor of the Praise of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Priest Mikhail Avramenko, performed the First Water Blessing Prayer Service. This date began to be revered as the day the shrine was founded.

Celebrated on Saturday in the fifth week of Lent. On this day, the Holy Church solemnly proclaims the prayer singing of the akathist, or thanksgiving praise to the Most Holy Theotokos.

Story

This holiday was established in the 9th century in gratitude to the Mother of God for repeatedly delivering Constantinople from enemy invasions. There is plenty of evidence of the quick intercession of the Mother of God in cases of extreme danger for the city and its inhabitants.

Thus, under Emperor Heraclius, Persian and Scythian troops besieged the capital of the Christian empire. Patriarch Sergius with the image of the Most Holy Theotokos walked around the city walls of Constantinople and prayed to the Lord for protection. Residents also sought salvation in the churches of God, day and night begging the Zealous Intercessor to have mercy on their people. And the Mother of God was not slow to respond to the persistent groans of her children.

Emperor Constantine the Great, having founded Constantinople, dedicated his city to the Mother of God and revered the Blessed Virgin Mary as the Patroness of the new capital. The ruler erected many churches in honor of the Mother of God. And in the Blachernae Cathedral he kept Her icon, painted by the holy Evangelist Luke.

On the night when the combined forces of the Hagarians and Persians moved towards the city from sea and land, a terrible storm suddenly arose, which scattered and sank the ships of the attackers. The surviving enemies fled in fear.

Then, all that night, the grateful people who were in the Blachernae church proclaimed a victorious all-night song to the Defender of the city: “To the chosen Voivode, victorious, as if we had got rid of the evil ones, let us sing thanksgiving to Thy servants, the Mother of God!” And from that time, in remembrance of such a great miracle, the Orthodox Church established the Feast of the Praise of the Most Holy Theotokos.

At first, the holiday was celebrated in Constantinople in the Blachernae Church, where the miraculous icon of the Mother of God and the sacred objects of Her earthly life - the robe and the belt - were kept. But later it was included in the statutes of the monasteries of St. Sava of Studium, and then in the church liturgical books, and from that time on it became common to the entire Eastern Church.

The Russian Orthodox Church celebrates this celebration to strengthen the repentant in the hope of the Heavenly Intercessor, who, by delivering the faithful from visible enemies, is all the more ready to help us in the fight against invisible enemies.

Akathist

The Akathist was written in the 7th century by the deacon of the great Church of Constantinople, George of Pisidia. Subsequently, Joseph the Studite wrote a canon on Saturday Akathist, then prayers of thanks were added. The Akathist is also read on other days; but on Saturday of the fifth week of Great Lent it is part of the service and is sung at matins (usually the day before, on Friday evening). And not all at once, but separately, in between other songs, in four different outputs.

###

The Greeks were the successors of the first Jewish Christians, the Apostles, who spread Christianity throughout the entire earth and founded Local Orthodox Churches glorifying the Most Holy Theotokos on all continents.

But we must not forget that the glory of the Holy Virgin shone much earlier: already in the depths of the Old Testament centuries, many hundreds of years before the Nativity of Christ, the prophets saw with spiritual vision She who would one day become the Mother of the incarnate God (see iconography) (Ex. 3:2 ), (Num., 17.8; 24.17), (Is., 7.14).

The very first encouraging prophetic word was spoken by the Lord God Himself in paradise - at the moment of the fall of the first people Adam and Eve. The Lord predicted that sometime in the future the “seed of the Woman” would destroy the head of the tempting serpent (Gen. 3:15). That is, through Her, the Wife, in accordance with God’s plan, the Messiah, the Son of God and the Son of the Virgin, will come into the world, who will become the Savior of all humanity. Death came into the world through his wife (Eve). Through the Woman (Holy Virgin Mary) life will come into the world - Christ the Life-Giver, the New Adam, the Conqueror of death, Who will give everyone forgiveness of sins and lost eternal life (1 Cor. 15:45-55).

In turn, Russia became the successor to the ancient faith, renewed and sanctified by Jesus Christ. Our ancestors, who converted to Christianity in 988, revered the Queen of Heaven, who gave the world a Savior, and passed on to subsequent generations the deep belief that our Motherland is the inheritance and home of the Most Holy Theotokos.

Surprisingly, the first news about Moscow in 1147 is also closely connected with the image of the Mother of God. If you believe the Ipatiev Chronicle, then the meeting of Yuri Dolgorukov with Svyatoslav in the future capital of our state took place on the Feast of the Praise of the Blessed Virgin Mary: In the summer of 6655 (1147) Gyurga went to fight the Novgorochka volost, and came to take the New Bargain and take all the revenge; and she sent Yuri to Svyatoslav, commanding him to fight the Smolensk volost; and Svyatoslav marched and took the people of Golyad, the top of Porotva, and so Svyatoslav’s squad was swarmed. And he sent Gyurgi and said: “Come to me, brother, in Moscow.” Svyatoslav rode to him with his child Olg, in a small squad, taking Volodimer Svyatoslavovich with him; Oleg rode ahead to Gyurgevi, and let him pardus (leopard). And his father Svyatoslav came for him, and so kindly kissed him, on the day of heels, for the Praise of the Holy Mother of God, and so there was joy. On the morning of the day, command Gyurga to arrange a strong dinner, and do great honor to them, and give many gifts to Svyatoslav, with love, and to his sons Olgovi and Volodymyr Svyatoslavich, and to her husband Svyatoslav, and so let him go.

There is a spiritual connection between the great Orthodox states and their traditions in glorifying the Protectress and the great Prayer Book for people at all times. Like the once ancient Constantinople, so our glorious city of Moscow worthily praises the Holy Virgin, who became Heaven on earth, giving birth to the Eternal God.

The Russian Orthodox Church celebrates this celebration to strengthen the repentant in the hope of the Heavenly Intercessor, who, by delivering the faithful from visible enemies, is all the more ready to help in the fight against invisible enemies.

Iconography

It is difficult to imagine the number of miracles performed by the Most Holy Theotokos for the salvation of man. Some of them are evidenced by icons. The Russian Orthodox Church celebrates each of them almost every day throughout the year.

If we talk about the holy image of Praise, then its main theme is the glorification of the Virgin Mary, who, according to Old Testament prophecies, became the Mother of God incarnate. The iconography is based on the words of the song of the canon to the prophets, compiled in the 8th century by the Patriarch of Constantinople Herman: “The prophets from above foreshadowed you, O Trokovitsa: a frame, a rod, a tablet, an ark, a candlestick, a meal, an uncut mountain, a golden censer and a tabernacle, an impenetrable door, a chamber, and the ladder and the throne of the Kings." Based on this song, the icons depict the following Old Testament prophets holding certain objects in their hands: Jacob with a ladder (Gen. 28:12); Moses with the Burning Bush (Ex. 3:2); Balaam with a star (Num. 24.17); Gideon with a fleece (Judg. 6:38); Ezekiel with the gates (Ezek. 44:1-3); Jeremiah with the tablet; Isaiah with tongs and coal (Isa. 7:14); Jesse and Aaron with prosperous rods (Num. 17.81), (Isa. 11.1); David and Solomon with models of the Jerusalem Temple (Ps. 66, 16-17); Daniel and Habakkuk with the mountains (Dan. 2:34-35).

Troparion

The Blessed Virgin / and the All-Pure Mother, / having received the annunciation from the Archangel, / with diligence you ascended into the Mountain, / and kissing Your little crown, the all-honorable Elizabeth, / from this you were called the Mother of the Lord, / and you exalted the Lord who exalted You: / Blessed are You in wives, / and blessed is the Fruit of Your womb.

Greatness

We magnify You, Most Holy Virgin, God-chosen Youth, and honor Your Holy Image, bringing healing to all who come with faith.
