Alexy the man of God was born in Rome in the house of noble parents
Alexy, a man of God, was born in Rome in the house of noble parents. His father was a very kind and sympathetic person, he always tried to help the sick and poor.
Every day, three large tables were set up in the parents’ house for orphans, widows, as well as for travelers and beggars. His wife did not have children for a very long time, and only this greatly darkened their happiness.
But they did not give up hope, and God sent them a son. The baby was named Alexy, which means protector in Greek.
Saint Alexy grew up to be a healthy and strong child.
When he grew up, his parents wanted to marry him. For their son they chose the most beautiful girl in Rome, beautiful and rich. Alexy accepted his parents' proposal and married this girl.
When he was alone with his wife, he gave her a gold ring and a belt buckle and said to her: “...Keep this, and may the Lord be between you and me until He renews us with His grace.” After that, he left his father's house.

One day the Mother of God revealed that Alexy was a man of God
One day, the Mother of God appeared in a dream to a church watchman and revealed to him that Alexy was a man of God. When the local residents began to venerate him, the Monk Alexy fled. He wanted to leave again, this time for the city of Tarsus, but the ship was caught in a storm and ended up landing on the shore near Rome.

The eldest son of the noble boyar Fyodor Byakont, who moved to Moscow from Chernigov, devastated by the bloodthirsty Tatars, Eleutherius received at baptism a high-born successor - Prince John Danilovich, who later ruled Moscow and was nicknamed Kalita.
In early childhood, God's chosen boy received an amazing vision in a dream, in which his destiny to become a “fisher of men” was revealed to him (Matthew 4:19). He entered the monastic path at the age of twenty, taking monastic vows at the legendary Moscow Epiphany Monastery. So Eleutherius became the monk Alexius.

A diligent student of the educated Greek, Metropolitan Theognostus, Alexy quickly grew in his ability to handle church affairs. In 1354, Patriarch Philotheus entrusted him with the Kyiv See. Subsequently, the saint actually ruled Moscow, paying great attention to the education of the future hero of the battle on the Kulikovo field - Prince Dmitry Ivanovich, nicknamed Donskoy.
Thanks to the extraordinary diplomatic abilities of Metropolitan Alexy, the Principality of Moscow peacefully coexisted with the formidable Golden Horde. According to church tradition, the fervent prayer of the primate for the healing of the beloved wife of Uzbek Khan Taidula from blindness was heard by God and she began to see again. This happened in 1357.

In memory of the mercy shown from above, the Metropolitan, upon returning to Moscow from his trip, founded his beloved Chudov Monastery in the Kremlin.
Saint Alexy became famous for his active dissemination of the cenobitic monastic rule in Rus', and maintained an ardent friendship with the abbot of the Trinity Monastery on Makovets, Venerable Sergius. On the initiative of the Metropolitan, in 1366 the active construction of the stone Moscow Kremlin began.

The miraculous relics of Metropolitan Alexy were found in 1431 on the territory of the Chudov Monastery, and since 1947 they have rested in the Epiphany Cathedral of the capital.
Detailed life of Saint Alexy
For seventeen years Saint Alexei lived with his parents as a beggar.
Thus, another 17 years have passed. When the life of the Monk Alexy was coming to an end, he wrote down his entire life on a scroll. On Sunday, after the Divine Liturgy, a miracle happened.
A voice came from the Holy See: “Seek the man of God, so that he may pray for Rome and all her people.” The whole people stood in a daze, and on Thursday in the Cathedral of the Apostle Paul they began to pray to the Lord that He would reveal to them the man of God. And then from the throne they heard: “In the house of Euthymian there is a man of God, look there.”
At that moment, the emperor and the pope were present in this temple. They turned to Alexy's father, but he did not understand what they were talking about. Then one servant told everyone that a righteous man lived in their house. Father Alexy hurried home, but did not find the saint alive. The saint's face shone. He held a scroll in his hand.

The saint's body was laid on a bed. The emperor and the pope bowed their knees before the saint. They asked to give them the scroll, and Alexei unclenched his hand.
Day of Remembrance
In the church calendar, Metropolitan Alexy is glorified several times a year:
- On February 25, his peaceful death is remembered;
- On June 2, they celebrate the discovery of miraculous relics;
- July 6 is honored in the Cathedral of Vladimir Saints;
- October 18 is celebrated at the Cathedral of Moscow Saints.
