Boris and Gleb were baptized under the names Roman and David, they became the first Russian Saints to be canonized as martyrs. The princes were the younger sons of Vladimir Svyatoslavovich, the Grand Duke of Kyiv, and fell victims of the struggle for power.

Saints Boris and Gleb, short biography

Prince Vladimir was the baptist of Rus', he was devoted to Christianity with all his soul and therefore raised his younger sons in righteousness and devotion to the true faith. The younger heirs were well educated, spent a lot of time studying the Holy Scriptures and liturgical books, they constantly helped the poor and disadvantaged in accordance with Christian commandments.

Before his death, Vladimir bequeathed the Kiev throne to Boris, and also gave him a squad; Gleb, the youngest, received the Murom lands. After the death of their father in 1015, internecine wars began between the brothers, although Vladimir bequeathed to maintain peace.

While Boris, who had become the Prince of Kyiv according to his father's will, was on a campaign against the Pechenegs, Svyatopolk and his elder brother arbitrarily took the Kiev throne. Boris did not even try to regain power, because his respect for his older brother and the sanctity of blood ties was too great.

Despite this, Svyatopolk, fearing his brother, decided to kill him. Although Boris knew about his brother’s terrible plan, he did not even try to escape and was killed on July 24, 1015, he was stabbed with spears during prayer.

Svyatopolk did not stop at the murder of Boris and sent his faithful people to the Murom land, where his younger brother Gleb ruled.

The younger prince also knew about his brother’s plans, but considered fratricide impossible; as a result, the killers overtook him near Smolensk near the Smyadyn River.

After his deeds, in ancient chronicles Svyatopolk began to be called the Damned, and under this nickname he went down in history. In Kyiv, he did not rule for long, since his half-brother Yaroslav, nicknamed the Wise, entered into a struggle for power with Svyatopolk and defeated his army.

Yaroslav did not kill Svyatopolk, but only expelled him. Svyatopolk, hated and persecuted by everyone, spent the rest of his life in endless wanderings.

Yaroslav found the remains of his innocently murdered half-brothers, Boris and Gleb, and placed them in the Church of Basil the Great in

Vyshgorod, where their relics became famous thanks to miraculous healings and miraculous phenomena.

What do the faithful princes Boris and Gleb pray for?

The noble princes Boris (in Holy Baptism - Roman) and Gleb (in Holy Baptism - David) are the youngest sons of Equal-to-the-Apostles Grand Duke Vladimir, the baptist of Rus'. The first Russian martyrs suffered in the internecine struggle that began after the death of their father. Saints Boris and Gleb preferred to accept death at the hands of murderers rather than resist violence and thereby begin internecine warfare in the Fatherland. They are revered as intercessors of the Russian land, heavenly patrons of princely power and helpers to those suffering from illnesses. They pray to them for the good morals of the authorities, for the strengthening of the Orthodox faith and for overcoming unbelief, for deliverance from troubles, hunger, illness, sorrow and sudden death, for the taming of all enmity and malice between people. The pious princes are also asked to ask the Lord for the forgiveness of sins, unanimity and health, preservation from the invasion of external enemies, internal strife and courage in the face of mortal danger for those praying.

Canonization of Boris and Gleb

When offering prayer in front of the icon of Saints Boris and Gleb, believers must remember one thing: the brothers accomplished a feat - they sacrificed themselves in the name of the main Christian commandment - love for your neighbor. They decided not to respond to evil with evil, because this is not Christian, and that forgiveness and humility should live in the hearts of believers.

In those days, this was not accepted in Rus', because blood feud was treated normally, so the act of the passion-bearing brothers was canonized.

According to legend, people who come to the remains of the brothers and read a prayer before them will get rid of many ailments: the blind regained their sight, bedridden patients began to walk again. Often a prayer to Boris and Gleb is read before the face for the reconciliation of relatives, and the brothers help to find mutual understanding between loved ones, which they could not achieve during their lifetime.

Prayer to the Apostle Peter

To avoid all problems at work, you can turn to the Apostle Peter. It will strengthen the spirit and faith, relieve temptations, and help in difficult situations. The words of the prayer are full of repentance and requests for protection and help.

O glorious Apostle Peter, who gave his soul for Christ and impregnated him with his blood! Hear the children of your prayer and sigh when they are offered with a broken heart. Be patient with our weaknesses and do not separate from us in spirit. We ask for intercession for all of us. Help with your prayers, the face of Christ turns to our requests and may all saints guarantee the blessed Kingdom and marriage of His Lamb. Amen.

Description of the icon “Saints Boris and Gleb”

Although the canonized brothers died in different places, they are always depicted together in icons, as a sign of their sacrifice and righteousness. An example is the icon “Boris and Gleb”, painted in the 14th century. As a rule, Saints are depicted in full growth in rich attire, with a sword in one hand and a cross in the other, as a symbol of their commitment to the Christian faith and the torment they accepted.

A little later, the icon “Boris and Gleb” on horseback appeared, where Christ himself looks at the Saints.

In the minds of the people, the brothers will forever remain passion-bearers who remained faithful to the Christian commandments even during a direct threat to their lives. For this, the Orthodox Church glorified men as patrons of Rus' and heavenly helpers of Russian princes.

Before the image of “Saints Boris and Gleb” the soldiers of Alexander Nevsky read prayers before the Battle of Lake Peipus, and before the Battle of the Don - the army of Prince Dmitry Donskoy.

The day of celebration of the icon is May 15 and August 6.

It is much less common to see the face of the holy and blessed Prince Boris alone. The image of “Saint Boris” will become the patron saint of a boy or man bearing this name and will bring peace and mutual understanding into the life of the family.

The day of celebration of the icon is September 18.

Prayer to Saint Tryphon

The most powerful prayer for problems at work is an appeal to Saint Tryphon. The prayer service can be read at any time if you cannot get rid of the problems on your own.

O holy martyr of Christ Tryphon, ready helper to all who come running to you and pray before your holy image, hasty representative! Listen now and hourly to our prayer, your unworthy labors, so that we honor your holy memory in this almighty temple and represent us before God everywhere. You are the feudal lord of Christ, who shines in great miracles, exudes chastity to those who come to you in faith and intercede in the pain of people, he himself promised to wait for the gift of God from this life of this life's need, pain and mental illness or bodily callings, your holy the name will begin so that it can be saved from all bad attachments. And sometimes you are the daughter of the king, in Rome, the city of the devil, the tormentor, you healed us, you healed us from his cruel wounds, you saved our stomach every day, especially the day after our last pains. So be the helper and quick exorcist of evil spirits and the leader of the Kingdom of Heaven. And when you now come out from the faces of the saints to the Throne of God, pray to the Lord that we too, partakers of joy and eternal joy, may in the same way joyfully glorify the Holy Father and his son. Amen.

1:50

The truthful passion-bearer/ and the true Gospel of Christ the listener,/ the chaste Roman with the kindly David,/ without resisting the enemy of my brother,/ who kills your body,/ I cannot touch your souls I feel./ Let the evil power-hungry weep,/ but you rejoice from the faces of the angels ,/ coming before the Holy Trinity,/ pray for the power of your relatives, to be more pleasing to God,// and to be saved as sons of Russia.

Translation: True passion-bearers and faithful followers of the Gospel of Christ, the chaste Roman with the meek David, who did not rebel against their enemy, who was your brother, who killed your bodies, but could not touch your souls (Matt. 10:28). Let the evil lover of power repent, but you, rejoicing in the assembly of angels, standing before the Holy Trinity, pray for the state of your compatriots, so that it may be pleasing to God and the sons of Russia may be saved.

Prayer before the icon of Boris and Gleb

About the sacred duo, the holy passion-bearers Boris and Gleb, who from their youth served Christ with pure faith and love, and adorned themselves with their blood like crimson, and now reign with Christ! Be our warm intercessor, protect us all from all sorrow, bitterness and sudden death. We pray to you, Christ-loving passion-bearers, assist the Russian power in victory over the resistance, as it once did to the noble prince Alexander Nevsky, may the Russian warriors bring fear of the enemy and peace to our land, may people live a quiet life in all piety and glorify God the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Second prayer

The holy passion-bearers, the God-loving duo, the faithful princes Boris and Gleb, who from childhood loved Christ with all their souls, acquired chastity, meekness, humility and other virtues by nature and, like the Lambs of kindness, from their brother they suffered unrighteous murder, their pure souls were offered as a favorable sacrifice to God. and from Him the incorruptible crowns fall upon your honorable image, we pray to you in a contrite and humble spirit: offer up your fervent prayers to our All-Merciful Savior, may He grant us, who honor your holy memory, His great and rich mercies. May she preserve her Holy Church from heresies and schisms, may the spirit of right faith and love, the spirit of knowledge and piety, revive in her children, may she grant to all of us everything we need for temporal and eternal life. To her, holy passion-bearers, hasten to help us, like your relative, the blessed Prince Alexander Nevsky, and deliver our country from enemies visible and invisible, from famine, fire,

deadly ulcers, from all sorts of troubles and misfortunes; dispel the darkness of unbelief and corruption that surrounds us, so that we may live peacefully and piously in this world and be worthy of a Christian death and a good answer at the Last Judgment of Christ God, to whom honor and worship are due with His Beginning Father and His Most Holy Life-Giving Spirit, now and ever and forever centuries. Amen.

Russian princes Boris and Gleb gave their lives for their faith, for this they were elevated to the ranks of Saints and now help believers all over the planet. A prayer read in front of their image will get rid of troubles and help maintain strength in faith if a person’s faith has been undermined by something.

Even if they were killed quickly and laid in graves, / but on the Higher Kingdom, before you, / you brought copies of the other one, / like a gentle lamb, you slaughtered with a knife, / so your blood was quick to heal. to those who call you by faith, saints, for help.

Translation: Although they were killed and laid in coffins, they came to the Kingdom of Heaven, one was pierced with a spear, the other, like a meek lamb, was slaughtered with a knife, therefore your blood became the healing of the world - for all those who call you, saints, for help.

Life story

The sons of the Baptist of Rus', Vladimir Monomakh, Boris and Gleb, were martyred by their half-brother Svyatopolk in the name of the unity of the Russian land, abandoning the internal war.

Prince Vladimir Svyatoslavovich had 12 children, as he married more than once. Almost all of his sons were princes in various important cities of Russia, in particular, Boris ruled Rostov, and Gleb ruled Murom. Their elder brother Svyatopolk, the owner of Pinsk, always dreamed of taking his father’s place and, taking advantage of his illness, decided to seize power by any means.

Almost before his death, Prince Vladimir sent his youngest son Boris against the Pecenegs, and when he died, Svyatopolk took power in Kyiv. Having learned about this, Boris refused to go with a detachment against his older brother, but this did not stop the invader: on his order, Boris was killed in his own tent, and the body was taken to Kyiv.

A sad fate awaited Gleb: Svyatopolk fraudulently summoned him to Kyiv. Along the way, he was warned that his older brother was plotting atrocities, but Prince Gleb, who deeply believed in his soul, did not resist fate, preferring death to war with his older brother. By order of Svyatopolk, his own cook killed him. Yaropolk avenged his brothers, putting an end to internal wars on Russian soil.

The Power of Prayer for Work

As a rule, Orthodox Christians recite a religious text about work for one of the following purposes:

  • to find a good job;
  • get help while doing important work;
  • to establish friendly relations with colleagues and superiors;
  • promotions up the career ladder;
  • effective protection against gossip and other problems in the workplace;
  • to gain a good foothold in your job and not worry about being fired.

Work is an important stage in a person’s socialization. If it takes too long to find a decent place, a person may become depressed and apathy towards others. Self-esteem is also significantly reduced, since sometimes the unemployed person feels that he is making mistakes or is not doing enough to find a good job. In this case, it is worth turning to God or the saints for help. You can say a prayer appeal to Nicholas the Wonderworker, St. Tryphon, Mother of God, Seraphim of Sarov, Matrona of Moscow.

Any prayer will be ineffective if you simply say the words out loud and do not really read into the meaning of this creation. Meanwhile, if you want to receive long-awaited help from the Lord in finding a job or with problems in your current place, you will need to follow key recommendations.

The sacred text becomes effective only after you turn to God with all sincerity. You need to put your soul into your request, because through prayer you communicate with God. At the moment of saying the prayer, you need to focus on your request and not be distracted by extraneous thoughts.

Apart from reading a religious text, it is also advisable to visit a temple from time to time. And one more key rule: your unshakable faith will help you achieve what you want, so your prayer for good and easy activities will certainly be heard.
