Life and instructions of St. Paisius the Holy Mountain

Orthodox Christians cannot imagine their lives without the spiritual help and prayerful intercession of our heavenly helpers - the saints. Being ordinary people in earthly life, they walked their path in such a way that they received the highest reward from the Lord and eternal life. At the same time, each saint was forced to struggle with his sins and passions, which exist in every person. Having walked their life's path with dignity, the saints of God help us after their death with their prayers and intercession before God. We can communicate with them through prayer. Many Orthodox Christians note that the prayer to Paisius the Holy Mountain has special power.

Paisius the Holy Mountain was baptized by Saint Arsenius of Cappadocia

Saint Paisius the Svyatogorets was born on July 25, 1925 in the small Turkish village of Farasy. His father's name was Prodromos Eznipidis.

He was engaged in smelting and had no fortune.

birthday of Saint Paisius the Svyatogorets

The entire family of the saint is very pious, and mother Paisia came from the Frangopoulos family.

She is a relative of Saint Arsenios of Cappadocia.

Her name was Eulogia and she bore her husband many children, whom she raised in the Orthodox faith.

At first, Paisiya's parents wanted to name him after his grandfather. Saint Arseny learned about this and decided to baptize him under his own name. He blessed the tribesman to serve the Lord and performed holy baptism with his own hands.

In this he acted on behalf of God, since he had the gift of foresight and understood that his nephew’s love for God would become the meaning of his life.

At this time, a conflict arose between Turkey and Greece. As a result, Turkish Muslims began to oppress and expel the Greeks from their inhabited places.

In order to protect Christian Greeks, Greece organized a people exchange with Turkey.

As a result, Arseny’s (Paisia) family moved permanently to Greece. Here the emigrants first settled in the port city of Piraeus.

Further, their fate brought them to the island of Kerkyra, where Saint Arsenios of Cappadocia died.

Relatives hid books from young Arseny, fearing for his health.

The refugees settled for permanent residence in the city of Cavalry. Here Arseny became familiar with prayer and humility from childhood.

He wanted to follow the path of his reverend relative and become a monk. The boy was so immersed in reading the Holy Scriptures that his family hid books from him.

They were afraid that prolonged reading could harm Arseny's health.

Arseny's parents sent him to school, however, although he began to study well, he did not finish. The fact is that the young man decided, following the example of Jesus Christ, to become a carpenter’s apprentice.

Having learned the carpenter's trade, he created a carpentry workshop. Here he made church utensils and coffins. At the same time, he did not charge the relatives of the deceased.

Paisiy Svyatogorets about love

The monk said that the easiest path to salvation is humility and love. And if a person does not have this, his deeds will be judged in heaven after death. These benefactors bestow God's mercy and open the gates to heaven, where eternal life awaits.

One who righteously believes must be ready to sacrifice himself, thus showing his love for the Lord and his neighbor. And most importantly, great love has the power to destroy all evil on earth - and then great grace will come: everyone will live in peace, harmony and humility, honoring the Almighty and maintaining faith in their souls.

Prayer to Paisius the Svyatogorets saves lives, restores faith, and gives hope for healing, both physical and mental. It brings one closer to the saint, revealing great miracles, conceals within itself sacrificial love for God and neighbors, and by giving it, a person receives in return eternal grace, which is the real meaning of earthly existence and heavenly life.

For the first time, Saint Paisius the Holy Mountain was denied his request to be accepted into monastic obedience

Already in his youth, those around Arseny noted that he was developed beyond his years and possessed wisdom.

His relatives claim that one day the Savior himself appeared to the saint. This event prompted him to contact the diocesan administration and ask to be accepted into the monastic novitiate.

The abbot who spoke with him refused the young man’s request, citing his young age.

At this time, civil war began in Greece. The saint's brothers took part in it, and Arseny took care of the family.

He began to take care of his mother and sisters. Naturally, the young man had to part with thoughts about monasticism for a long time.

1945

this year Passion was drafted into the army

The monk was later drafted into the army. This happened in 1945. Here he received the qualification of a radio operator.

His unit took part in the fighting. In moments of danger, the saint prayed, and she walked around him.

Moreover, during the entire period of hostilities, Arseny never stained his hands with blood.

The last circumstance is very important. The fact is that the army sometimes shot prisoners. The monk always indignantly rejected proposals to do this.

He tried to hide from his commanders during executions, and all the time he tirelessly prayed for the souls of the innocent who might be executed.

Saint Paisios, after his army service, went to Mount Athos, but he had to return home

Army service ended in 1950. After Arseny returned to the Cavalry, he immediately went to Holy Mount Athos.

Here he wanted to find an elder who would take him as a novice. He became a novice of confessor Kirill, the future abbot of the Kutlumush monastery.

He did not stay there long, as his father urgently called him to return home.

The reverend had to take care of family affairs. He made his living as a carpenter. Driven by love for his neighbors, he donated part of the money he earned to the poor.

At night he prayed. He maintained approximately the same lifestyle throughout his life. People who knew him noted that he strove to live in strict asceticism.

At the same time, the work of a carpenter was highly valued, and the saint could deny himself practically nothing.

1953

this year Saint Paisios became a novice

Arseny made his next attempt to become a monk in 1953, because the saint never gave up the idea of devoting himself to God and his neighbors.

Having distributed his savings to those in need, he again went to Athos. The saint first wanted to settle in the Konstamonit monastery.

On the way, a storm broke out, and he decided not to contradict God’s Will. As a result, Arseny ended up in the Esphigmen monastery, which is distinguished by its strict way of life.

In it the monk received spiritual experience in faith and piety.

Esphigmen Monastery 1904. In 1953, Saint Paisios became a novice of the Esphigmen monastery. The monastery was distinguished by a strict treasure of monastic life

In the monastery, the saint was assigned to carry out obedience to the refectory and bakery. In addition, he also worked in carpentry.

Here the experience of working with wood, which he acquired while working as a carpenter, came in handy. The new servant also maintained cleanliness and looked after the lamps in two churches located outside the monastery fence.

Life of Paisius the Holy Mountain

Paisios is the greatest spiritual mentor of the Greek people, a recognized prophet of the 20th century. He lived on Mount Athos and was widely known for his righteous deeds and instructions that helped people find the right path in life, get rid of everything evil and sinful, and at the end of the path find peace and tranquility.

During the civil war in his native country, he became a soldier in the active army. After graduation, he helped his family in restoration, and then, at the call of his heart, he became a novice and settled on Mount Athos. There the monk became known as a true ascetic, as he actively helped fight various kinds of Protestant movements.

After traveling around Greece, in which he proved in word and deed that his gift of God was omnipotent, the saint first returned to his native monastery, where a huge number of people came to him, and after a serious lung illness he settled in a monastery near the city of Suroti, where he died and was buried. To this day, the grave of Paisius the Holy Mountain is located behind the altar of the monastery of St. Arsenios of Cappadocia.

Saint Paisius the Svyatogorets - miracle worker

Miracles are eternal! And the monk proved this indisputable truth both during his life and after his death. His help to cancer patients and people suffering from mental disorders was especially strong. His holy face was observed during terrible road accidents - and people survived after tragedies. He simply came to many in their hospital rooms and helped them get back on their feet.

There are several historically certified facts that testify to the invaluable and miraculous power of the elder:

  • the case occurred with a 6-year-old boy with developmental delays who one day fell into a deep elevator shaft. At the hospital it turned out that the child did not have a single scratch. And after he was taken to the temple, he pointed to a picture of Elder Paisius, showing with gestures that it was he who became his savior;
  • one worker, getting ready to go home, came across a wire hook in the dark, and it hit him right in the eye. While his friend was trying to help him and was about to take him to the hospital, he saw the image of an old man in a black cassock. First, the man felt a chill, and then a piece of metal fell out of his eye. Upon arrival at the hospital, he required minimal medical attention. The day after this event, he saw a photo of the saint in one of the stores and bought it. Since then it has always been with him;
  • a man miraculously survived a terrible road accident - his car practically fell apart. In the hospital, a monk came to him and said that he would definitely survive. The man survived - and everyone called it a real miracle. Then he accidentally saw the face of an old man on the cover of a book in a store, bought and read it. And after a complete recovery, he went to Mount Athos, told what had happened and confessed to his confessor, then, despite the persuasion of his relatives, he was ordained and renounced the worldly sinful life;
  • One woman's sister was diagnosed with breast cancer. The situation was critical. But her friend had a great shrine - the Paisius scarf. She asked for it, brought it to her sister, and she prayed with him day and night in oblivion. The item was returned to the owner, and after another examination, the doctors declared the woman completely healthy.

The miracles performed by Paisius the Svyatogorets are great and not fully understood by people. His icon holds great power, to which people all over the world turn in the hope of getting at least the slightest chance of salvation. And the elder monk looks at them from the holy face, listens to their prayers - and always helps, because whoever comes to him carries faith in his heart, and it cannot be overcome.

After trials in the monastery, Arseny took monastic vows in 1954

Arseny passed the test as a novice for a year. In 1954, he took monastic vows under the name Averky.

From that moment on, those around him began to notice that miracles of insight were happening to him. So one day Averky watched the priest in the altar room.

The sacrament of the Offering took place (Proskomedia). And then the novice saw the power of God’s grace.

At that moment a vision appeared to him. He saw that the Lamb prepared from the prosphora in the center of the dikos was trembling like a living lamb.

It was the Lord who accepted the sacrificial meal and filled the space of the altar with Himself.

Saint Paisios, Athonite monk. In Sinai. 1962 Arseniy Eznipidis took monastic vows in 1954 under the name Averky

In subsequent years, the monk visited several monasteries for the purpose of pilgrimage to Christian shrines. In addition, in 1956 he was transferred to the Philotheus Monastery.

Simeon, his distant relative, served as hieromonk here. Due to poor health, Averky returned home to Konitsa.

1987

this year Saint Paisius received the minor schema

In 1987, Averky accepted the minor schema and became Paisius. A year later he moved to a new monastery, the Stoimon Monastery.

Here he attracted many lay people to the faith. In 1962, Bishop Porfiry blessed him to move to Mount Sinai and live in Sinai.

Here the elder discovered the ability to perform miracles through prayer. So, during a terrible drought, he prayed to the Lord to grant water.

The saint prayed all night, and by morning it started pouring rain, which had not been seen for several months.

Canon to St. Paisius the Great (sung for deliverance from the torment of those who died without repentance)

The beginning of the canons is general:

Through the prayers of the saints, our fathers, Lord Jesus Christ our God, have mercy on us.
Amen. Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us. (Read three times, with the sign of the cross and bow from the waist.)

Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Most Holy Trinity, have mercy on us; Lord, cleanse our sins; Master, forgive our iniquities; Holy One, visit and heal our infirmities, for Thy name's sake.

Lord, have mercy (three times).

Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven! Hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, as it is in heaven and on earth. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, just as we forgive our debtors; and do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

Lord, have mercy (12 times).

Come, let us worship our God the King (bow).

Come, let us bow down and bow down to Christ, our King God (bow).

Come, let us bow and fall down to Christ Himself, the King and our God (bow).

Psalm 50

Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your great mercy, and according to the multitude of Your mercies, cleanse my iniquity. Above all, wash me from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my iniquity, and I will take away my sin before me. You alone have sinned and committed evil before You, so that You may be justified in Your words and overcome, never judge You. Behold, I was conceived in iniquity, and my mother gave birth to me in sins. Behold, Thou hast loved the truth, Thou hast revealed to me Thy unknown and secret wisdom. Sprinkle me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. Give joy and gladness to my hearing; humble bones will rejoice. Turn Your face away from my sins, and cleanse all my iniquities. Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a right spirit in my womb. Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit away from me. Reward me with the joy of Your salvation and strengthen me with the Lord’s Spirit. I will teach the wicked Your way, and the wicked will turn to You. Deliver me from bloodshed, O God, God of my salvation; my tongue will rejoice in Your righteousness. Lord, open my mouth, and my mouth will declare Your praise. As if you had wanted sacrifices, you would have given burnt offerings, but you would not have been pleased. The sacrifice to God is a broken spirit, a contrite and humble heart, God will not despise. Bless Zion, O Lord, with Your favor, and may the walls of Jerusalem be built. Then you will be pleased with the sacrifice of righteousness, the wave offering and the burnt offering, then they will lay the bullock on Your altar.

Canon to St. Paisius. Voice 6:

Song 1

Irmos: Helper and Protector be my salvation, This is my God, and I will glorify Him, God of my father, and I will exalt Him, gloriously I will be glorified.

Chorus: Reverend Father Paisius, pray to God for us.

O Reverend Father, who prayed to the wise God for his servant, that he may open my lips of unworthiness, and move my perplexed tongue, and the tightness and thinness of voice, father, open with the grace of the Holy Spirit within you, to the singing of your miracles.

Chorus: Reverend Father Paisius, pray to God for us.

I will begin your praiseworthy and soul-beneficial life from infancy, just as in ancient times Egypt, the great Moses, was a prophet, who was glorified to God by appropriation and great miracles, so now Egypt has become glorified in the second place, for your sake, Father Paisius, you have been enriched by your honorable name and many virtues, The Lord has given you the gift, pray to Him, that He may save our souls.

Glory: Having entered the Kingdom of Heaven by a narrow and sorrowful path, according to the commandment of my Lord Christ, Reverend Father Paisius, having hated the wide and spacious path, the spreading darkness of my mind has been removed, so that I may be able to bring my little prayer into your most honorable memory.

And now: Grant me a contrite spirit, O Good One, a humble heart, purity of mind, correction of life, and forgiveness of sins.

Song 3

Irmos: Establish, O Lord, my moving heart on the rock of Your commandments, for You alone are Holy and Lord.

Chorus: Reverend Father Paisius, pray to God for us.

You became like the Stone of Faith, Peter the Apostle, who were crucified in the world throughout your entire life, Venerable Paisius, and you guided your nose irrevocably to the heavenly procession, and you reached the Mountain of Jerusalem, standing before the Holy Trinity with the saints, pray for me to the One Good Lover of Mankind.

Chorus: Reverend Father Paisius, pray to God for us.

The blessed branch of the pious root, the Lord has chosen for you, the Angel said to your mother: this one is pleasing to God. But you, who have taken up your cross from infancy, have followed that path of irrevocability and have grown in years and in mind and through the grace of God. Pray for forgiveness of sins.

Glory: Oh, Master Lord Jesus Christ, who will not be surprised at Your love for mankind, when the desire of the monk to receive monastic life to do Your commandments, by Your grace, like a blameless lamb, was led into the wilderness, and reached the verbal sheep, and was introduced to the blessed shepherd Pamve, and having clothed myself in the monastic image, strengthen me in it, O Lord, through the prayers of the Venerable Paisius, to do Your commandments.

And now: Free me from fierce torment, and pitch darkness, and hell through Your prayers, O Virgin, who gave birth to the will and strength of the Lord, the One Most Good.

Sedalen, voice 2:

Having bound my soul with the love of Christ and hated everything earthly, wisely, you settled, O Reverend Father, in the deserts and mountains, having tasted the wise tree, you shone more gloriously and angelically. In the same way, having passed through the darkness of your flesh, you drove away the darkness of demons, Paisius, first to the monks, pray to Christ the God of sins to forgive the tax, to those who honor your holy memory with love.

Glory, And now:

Theotokos: Show quick protection, and help, and mercy on Your servant, Pure One, and tame the waves of vain thoughts, and raise up my fallen soul, Mother of God, as much as you can, as much as you want.

Song 4

Irmos: The prophet heard Thy coming, O Lord, and feared, for Thou wouldst be born of a Virgin and appear as a man, and said: I heard Thy hearing and feared, glory to Thy power, O Lord.

Chorus: Reverend Father Paisius, pray to God for us.

Let us accept the law-suffering life from soft nails, God-wise Paisius, even to the end you remained, like a divine valiant man, you received the crown of victory from all the Reigning Ones, with your prayers you delivered sinners from torment, of whom I am the first, do not forget me.

Chorus: Reverend Father Paisius, pray to God for us.

Having you as a strong prayer book, blessed Paisius, and a promiser to the sad, an intercessor, and a champion, and a pious intercessor, we are saved from all troubles, misfortunes and circumstances.

Glory: Having great destinies, I say to you: behold, I give you a gift, so that everything you ask from My Father in My name will be given to you, if you pray for any sinner, that person’s sins will be forgiven; For this reason, I bow down to you, Father Paisius, having an abyss of sins, so that through your prayers you may be forgiven of your vows, that you are Good and Lover of Mankind.

And now: Proclaim the verb, when the imam has the right to be judged, to the Mother of God, to His Son, Most Immaculate, that I may then find Thee refuge and intercession, relieving the torments of all.

Song 5

Irmos: From the morning night, O Lover of mankind, enlighten me, I pray, and instruct me in Thy commandments, and teach me, O Savior, to do Thy will.

Chorus: Reverend Father Paisius, pray to God for us.

By fasting, depressing your body, Father Paisius, sometimes after communion of the Body and Blood of Christ, like an Angel, you remained for seventy days without bodily food, having ineffable Divine power, and was able to contain in yourself animal strength by grace, more than food strengthening, glory to Your power, Lord.

Chorus: Reverend Father Paisius, pray to God for us.

Like John the Baptist, you chose to walk a narrow and sorrowful path, but he on the Jordan, seeing his Creator, was afraid and cried out: I dare not approach the Fire; But you, Father Paisius, in the desert sometimes the Lord appeared, unable to behold His most pure face, fell, overcome with trembling. He said to you: do not be afraid, I will fill this desert with fasting people for you. With them we pray to you, father: do not forget us, your prayer book, to be shown mercy.

Glory: For at the beginning I see my sins before You, and for my iniquities I pray Your mercy, so that You forgive and cover with Your compassion the multitude of my sins, and give me the rest of this life to spend sinlessly, yes, make the path to salvation easy to flow, without stumbling to I will achieve a good end with Your help; besides Your help and instruction, nothing can be accomplished, and whoever can receive mercy from You.

And now: I offer a slavish prayer to You, foolish I, and I resort to Your gracious mercy, do not turn me away, Pure One, I am put to shame.

Song 6

Irmos: I cried out with all my heart to the Generous God, and heard me from the underworld and raised my belly from aphids.

Chorus: Reverend Father Paisius, pray to God for us.

The soulless creature, Jordan, was ashamed of her Creator, crying out: I cannot wash the Sinless One. The saint, seeing the Lord, accept the water, touch the Inviolable One, wash His nose with His nose and, drinking the water, accept the gift of healing ailments and driving away demons from people, for this reason we fall before you, Father: with your prayers have mercy on us from all demonic intimations.

Chorus: Reverend Father Paisius, pray to God for us.

According to the word of our Lord Jesus Christ, I found you, Father Paisius, a great refuge, and an intercessor, and the warmth of a prayer book for our sins, just as before the monk had first abandoned and alienated from Christianity, and was brought down into the depths of hell by destructive unbelief, and, when it was felt, to you, and beseech the All-Merciful. The generous Lord appeared to you and said: My servant, goodness is likened to My love, caring for sinners, deigning to accept torment for their deliverance.

Chorus: Reverend Father Paisius, pray to God for us.

Bring your prayer and tears to God, as fragrant incense and an immaculate and favorable sacrifice, and do not forget me through your intercession to the Most Holy Theotokos, give me tears of tenderness, wash away the abyss of my sins, deliver me from the depths of death, and grant great mercy to those who do not hope, and forgive them their sins.

Glory: I am completely overcome with bewilderment, when I take in my mind that hour of terrible testing of the Judge and God, and I cry, and lament, and weep, remembering the abyss of my evils. Likewise, save, O Lover of Mankind, through the prayers of Your saint, the Venerable Paisius, and deliver me from torment, for He is Compassionate.

And now: From my heart I offer lamentations to Thee, Most Immaculate, asking for Thy abiding intercession. Have mercy on my all-passionate soul, have mercy, Mother of the Most Merciful God, deliver me from Judgment and the fiery lake.

Kontakion, voice 2:

Abandoning everyday rumors, you loved silent life, becoming like the Baptist in all images, with whom we honor you, Father of the Fathers Paisius.

Ikos

Having heard the voice of Christ, you walked in the footsteps of His commandments, being naked in life, you rejected care, and all acquisitions, and possessions, and your brothers, and your love mother, the God-bearing Pais, alone in the deserts of God, conversing with your mind, you accepted the gifts that were sent to me , singing in songs, the chief of the fathers, Paisie.

Song 7

Irmos: We have sinned, we have sinned, we have acted untruthfully before You, we have been inferior to observance, inferior to those who have done as You commanded us, but do not betray us to the end, O Fathers God.

Chorus: Reverend Father Paisius, pray to God for us.

I am filled with many sins, and your prayer, like a fragrant censer, correct yourself, Father, consume the abyss of my sins, and dry up the stormy sea of evil life, and ward off the wrathful drink, and strengthen a chaste mind with your prayers, Father Paisius.

Chorus: Reverend Father Paisius, pray to God for us.

Having a mentor and a prayer book, you have warmth and a quick helper, like a solid wall, and an immovable visor, and a strong and invincible commander, we pray to you: do not forget your prayer book, delivering you from all sorrow and the slander of the enemy.

Chorus: Reverend Father Paisius, pray to God for us.

Oh, great miracle, one day since I sat, Father Paisius, in the cave there came a voice saying: peace to you, my beloved saint. But you, having risen with fear and trembling, were possessed, fell, bowed down and said: behold Your servant, Lord. For this reason, we pray to you: pray to the Lover of Mankind, that he may save our souls.

Glory: Give me, O Christ, reason and patience, so as not to condemn those who sin with the arrogance of the Pharisees, but, like the publican’s repentance, accept it, and like the prodigal son, O God, Thy supper is worthy of showing me, through the prayers of St. Paisius, and grant me forgiveness of sins .

And now: Arise, O passionate soul, arise, wretched one, strike from the depths of your heart and let out springs of tears, so that the Merciful Mother of Christ God may have mercy on you, wretched one.

Song 8

Irmos: Whose heavenly armies praise and tremble Cherubim and Seraphim, every breath and creature, sing, bless and exalt forever.

Chorus: Reverend Father Paisius, pray to God for us.

Do not despise this singing that is gratefully brought to you, Father Paisius, but rather accept it and fill it with spiritual joy, so that without obscurity I worship your image, where it is written, giving healing to everyone.

Chorus: Reverend Father Paisius, pray to God for us.

Having become jealous of the all-venerable life of the godly father who has lived for centuries, Father Paisius, in humility and fasting for Christ's sake, you died a martyr all your life, and you suffered many attacks from demons, and defeated them. For this reason, I pray to you, father: take away violence, rage and neglect of your prayers from me.

Chorus: Reverend Father Paisius, pray to God for us.

Master Christ the All-Generous God, who weighs in destinies, grant me to hate the deeds of the evil one, for You are our God, the river: ask and you will receive. Grant love from all my soul, through the prayers of the Reverend Father Paisius, to do Your saving will.

Glory: Pray: be patient with me, a sinner, O Lord, and do not cut me off, like a barren tree, by cutting mortals, sending me into the fire, but make me fruitful, begged by the prayers of the venerable one, grant me a time of repentance, like a Lover of Mankind.

And now: Streams of tears have descended and groans from my soul, O Pure One, may always fall under Your protection, so that I may find the resolution of my sins by Your mercy.

Song 9

Irmos: Rejoice from the Angel, having received and given birth to Your Creator, O Virgin, save You who magnify.

Chorus: Reverend Father Paisius, pray to God for us.

You were a quick helper, reverend, even in this life, sometimes with the reverend elder a disciple died in disobedience and was taken to hell, he fell down asking, and begged the All-Bounteous for his disciple. You, as a quick obedient and guardian of love, place your hope in the All-Generous God, stretching out to pray, and He, who is much merciful and unfaithful in his vows, create the will for those who fear Him and, having heard your prayer, deliver your soul from hell. For this reason, I, unworthy, fall down and pray to you: Reverend Father, with your prayers deliver me from torment and unquenchable fire.

Chorus: Reverend Father Paisius, pray to God for us.

I became a demon of laughter, a man of humiliation, a righteous weeping, an angel of weeping, desecration of the air, and the earth, and the waters, my body was stained and my mind was defiled by deeds more than words, I was an enemy of God. Woe to me, those who have sinned! Through the prayers of St. Paisius, forgive me.

Glory: Just as I have fallen into the hands of robbers and am vulnerable, so I have fallen from many sins, and my soul is vulnerable, to whom shall I resort when guilty, only to You, the Merciful Physician of souls, accept the prayer book of the warmth of the Venerable Paisius and pour out Your great prayers on me mercy.

And now: My sins have multiplied, I am worthy of rebuke and Judgment, O Pure One, falling down I call to You: before the end, grant me purification, and tenderness, and correction of morals.

Prayer to St. Paisius the Great

Passion winner, helper for souls, prayer book for all, intercessor and mentor for everyone’s salvation, sighing from the depths of our hearts, we earnestly and fervently pray to you, Reverend Paisius! Hear and help us, do not reject or despise us, but rather hear in humility the hearts of those who flow to you. You, reverend, diligently strived for the salvation of your neighbors and led many sinners to the light of salvation. He considered excessive exploits to be a tranquility in itself, extremely wonderful, and, always burning with love for the Lord, you were vouchsafed the appearance of Christ the Savior, and you imitated Him for the people who died, imitating love, and for those who renounced Christ. Hear us, O most praiseworthy Pais, for we are unworthy to pray for the granting of the great mercy of the Lord to us, since we are sinners, and we have defiled lips and burdened hearts, and we suffer under the burden of sins, and our prayer does not reach the Lord. For this sake, pray for us with your strong and God-pleasing prayer, Saint Paisios, so that our relatives who died without repentance, our neighbors and those we know, will be delivered from eternal torment, and our Savior will accept your prayer with favor and give them His mercy instead of good deeds, free them , we believe, from suffering, and will dwell in the villages of the righteous, and will merit us to die in repentance, so that together we may glorify the All-Holy and magnificent name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, forever and ever. Amen.

End of canon

It is worthy to eat as the truly blessed Thee, the Mother of God, the Ever-Blessed and Most Immaculate and the Mother of our God. The most honorable Cherub and the most glorious without comparison Seraphim, without the corruption of God the Word, who gave birth to the real Mother of God, we magnify Thee.

Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Lord have mercy. (Thrice)

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, prayers for the sake of Your Most Pure Mother, our reverend and God-bearing fathers, the Holy Venerable Paisius the Great and all the saints, have mercy on us. Amen.

Saint Paisios died due to an incorrect diagnosis

In 1965, the elder underwent a complex operation. As a result, he had a lung removed from his left side. Unfortunately, he was diagnosed incorrectly.

Therefore, the disease began to progress and became more complicated. The saint fought with her for another 29 years, without stopping his ministry. At that time he lived in the Panaguda cell of the Kutlumush monastery.

Here he also preached for the sake of repentance in the souls of the laity and believers.

Behold, I give you a gift: for every sinner, pray for him, sinners will be delivered to him. It must be remembered that the akathist and troparion to the saint were composed in Greece even before the Russian Orthodox Church canonized the saint.

That is why, before reading them, you need to make sure that the texts of the prayer chants are included in the canon.

It is best to order the reading of an akathist to the holy elder in a church. In this case, you will be confident that the prayer to the saint will be said correctly.

As for the original text of the akathist, it was translated from Greek in 2012 in Athens. This akathist is called: “Rejoice to Paisius the Holy Mountain.”

Its text is laconic and rhymed. He is distinguished by a sincere prayerful feeling towards the saint. Since its author is most likely Greek, the text of the akathist has a large number of lexical and syntactic deviations.

Their nature lies in the structure of the Modern Greek language.

Instruction of Paisius the Holy Mountain

Here are some instructions from the Reverend Father:

  • The Holy Fathers advise not to pay attention to dreams. Even if they are from God, we will not lose anything if we ignore them. God is pleased with our caution in this matter, and he will certainly reveal to us what he wanted to say through a dream in some other way.

  • If someone who has been seduced into heresy has a good attitude, he will not find peace there. But if the cause of his fall was egoism, he will persist in his delusion. Such a person should be mourned.

You will learn some more good instructions for spouses in the video at the end of the article.
