Holy Great Martyr and Healer Panteleimon!

Heal those ulcers and scabs that were caused to us by our passions.

We suffer from laziness and relaxation - we are healed. We suffer from attraction and addiction to earthly objects - we are healed.

We are sick, O Saint Panteleimon! We suffer from forgetfulness: about the matter of salvation, about our sins and weaknesses, about our responsibilities - heal us.

We are sick with resentment, anger, hatred - heal, O healer of St. Athos and the world.

We suffer from dependence, pride, arrogance, exaltation, despite all the poverty and lewdness - we are healed.

We suffer from many different attacks of carnality: gluttony, intemperance, gluttony, lust - we are healed.

We are sick with drowsiness, verbosity, idle talk, judgmentalism - heal us, O Saint Panteleimon!

Our eyes hurt from sinful views, our ears hurt from listening to idle talk, slander, slander - heal us.

It hurts, our tongue hurts, our lips hurt: with idle talk, idle talk, slander, turning away from prayers and praises,

or pronouncing them carelessly, absent-mindedly, without attention, without a concept - heal us, oh mercy!

We hurt from head to toe: our minds hurt with lack of understanding, unreasonableness and madness;

Our will hurts, turning away from holy pursuits and striving for deeds that are harmful and ungodly;

Our memory hurts, having forgotten our sins and containing within itself the sins and insults of our neighbors;

Our imagination hurts, unable and unwilling to vividly imagine our death, the eternal torment of sinners,

the blessings of the Kingdom of Heaven, God's wrath, Christ's suffering on the cross, His crucifixion - heal us, O Saint Panteleimon!

Everything in us hurts. Our entire soul, with all its strengths and abilities, is also weak.

Our whole body with all its members is also weak.

Heal us, O Saint Panteleimon, free and loving Healer, servant of the Most Holy Theotokos,

and do not leave our repentance in the great ailments and in the great weakness:

May I be healed by your grace and glorify the Most Holy Trinity, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit and the Most Holy Theotokos,

sending you to serve the sick, and I will thank your, O Saint Panteleimon, celibate shrine forever.

Amen.

Some facts of the saint's biography

The future patron appeared in the family of a famous pagan from Nicodemus. At birth the boy was named Pantoleon. The mother died very early, not having time to instill in her son faith in the religion of Christ. After graduating from a pagan school, the young man learned to treat diseases from Doctor Eurosin. Emperor Maximiam, having learned about the young man’s abilities, ordered him to serve as a doctor.

While working in the palace, Pantoleon met priests who preached Christianity and miraculously escaped execution for their faith. The young man began to often come to one of them, Ermolai, to listen to the story of Jesus Christ. One day, walking down the street, a young man saw a child who had died from the bite of a poisonous snake. Pantoleon understood that it was impossible to resurrect the dead, and began to ask God to heal the child. The future great martyr remembered the words of the priest Ermolai that the Lord can do anything. The baby came to life, and Pantoleon vowed to himself to accept faith in Jesus Christ. He treated without money:

  • beggars;
  • wretched;
  • prison inmates.

The doctors of Nicodia were jealous that all the sick who came to Pantoleon were recovering, and reported to the emperor that the court doctor was praying to Jesus Christ. The ruler tried to persuade the doctor to renounce the Christian faith, in response he read a prayer, and the emperor subjected him to terrible torture.

The healer was tortured with molten metal, his body was burned and torn apart, but he bravely endured the abuse and all the wounds healed.

By order of Maximiam, the healer was sent to a cage with wild animals, but the animals did not touch him. When the saint was to be beheaded by order of the emperor, the sword melted, the martyr saw God and became Panteleimon. The Lord called a healer to his kingdom. The executioners fell to their knees and begged not to continue the execution. The healer himself forced them to do this. The young man’s body did not burn in the fire, but was buried in the ground. It was not blood that flowed from the severed head, but milk. In honor of the martyr who died for his faith in Christ, prayers are read in the churches that were built in his honor. Springs of water are named after the doctor. The tree to which the doctor was tied blossomed and blossomed.

Common Mistakes

On August 9, Christians celebrate the day of remembrance of the great martyr, and healers collect herbs endowed with healing powers. Many illnesses arise in people who renounce the Lord and commit serious sins. Saint Panteleimon helps relieve pain and brings recovery closer, but in order for the miracle worker to hear the request for healing, you need to read the prayer thoughtfully and sincerely. When addressing the Lord and Panteleimon, it is not necessary to know the text by heart.

If you give up and don’t believe that prayer will heal, you shouldn’t expect miracles. Before begging for the health of a relative, you must ask God to forgive your sins.

When reading a prayer, you need to think about every word, and not just repeat phrases, and not be distracted by something else. Even a deeply religious person can make a mistake in stress or pronunciation. If you read the prayer carelessly and show indifference to the content, the saint will not hear it and will not convey the request to the Lord.

Prayer to the Great Martyr Panteleimon for the health of the sick

O great servant of Christ and glorious healer, Great Martyr Panteleimon!

With your soul in Heaven stand before the Throne of God and enjoy His Trinitarian glory, rest in your holy body and face on earth in Divine temples and perform various miracles by the grace given to you from above,

Look with your merciful eye at the people ahead, more honestly than your icon, tenderly praying and asking for your healing help and intercession:

extend your warm prayers to the Lord our God and ask for forgiveness of sins for our souls.

Behold, for our iniquity we do not dare to raise our hair to the heights of Heaven, nor to raise our prayerful voice lower to His unapproachable glory in the Divine,

With a contrite heart and a humble spirit, we call upon you, a merciful intercessor to the Master and a prayer book for us sinners, as if you have received grace from Him to drive away illnesses and heal passions.

We therefore ask you: do not despise us, unworthy, who pray to you and demand your help.

Be a comforter to us in our sorrows, a physician to the afflicted, a quick protector to the sick, a giver of insight to those who are ill, a ready intercessor and healer for those who are sick and infants in sorrows:

intercede for everyone everything that is useful for salvation, because through your prayers to the Lord God you have received grace and mercy,

Let us glorify all the good Source and Giver of God, the One in the Trinity of Holy Ones, the glorified Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages.

Amen.

Short story

Pantoleon (that was the boy's name before the adoption of Christianity) was born into the family of a wealthy polytheist, and although his mother was a Christian, he was sent to a pagan school. Having completed his secondary education, the young man began to study medical skills, mastered science perfectly and soon became a doctor at the imperial palace. At that time, he met the disciples of Jesus, who spoke about the Christian faith and the almighty Lord. The young man became interested in what he heard, but one incident turned out to be decisive for him. One day, returning home, the guy saw a dying child, who was tormented by a poisonous creature. And he began to call on God, asking for the resurrection of the baby and the destruction of the reptile. At the same moment, before his eyes, the vile beast shattered into pieces, and the child opened his eyes and smiled. This struck the man so much that he delved into Orthodoxy and began reading cell prayers. This is how Panteleimon appeared, accepting the creed in truth.

The icon of the great martyr and even the shortest petition for recovery gives faith and helps already desperate patients.

Besides St. Panteleimon, there are other heavenly doctors, for example, the holy brothers Cosmas and Damian, who assist in treating not only people, but even livestock. They also pray to the Mother of God for the sick person.
