Seven most powerful prayers to the guardian angel for help

Who is a guardian angel

Memoirs of people who experienced clinical death, and a lot of books talk about two or even three angels accompanying the soul of the newly deceased. The number of guardians varies from person to person. Not by personal merit, as an attentive reader might think, but by way of life. One angel comes at the time of birth, the second at the time of baptism. The third guardian angel appears to the family after the wedding sacrament. This angel guards the union blessed by God and protects all family members, including children born in marriage. But not everyone supports this theory; disputes about the number of angels have not subsided for the third millennium. How to figure it out?

Unfortunately, the answer to this question is not known to those living on the planet today. Both sides of the debate make reasonable arguments. Those who adhere to the theory of two angels argue that the Lord could not deprive his lost children of an intercessor. In other words, just as the sun rises on the righteous and the unrighteous, so a guardian is given to everyone at birth. After all, it is not a person’s fault that he was born, for example, in a remote African village; the soul does not choose which family to incarnate in. The statement about chosenness is fundamentally wrong, according to adherents of the theory of two angels.

Orthodox Christians stand their ground: in the Gospel there is not a word about guardian angels, given to a person at birth, only after Baptism. And they are right too. To understand why, you need to understand the functions of a guardian angel.

What is the role of a guardian angel in a person’s life?

Everyone knows that the main enemy of humanity is the devil. He used to be an angel, but he became proud and rebelled against God, dragging along thousands of winged followers. For this daring action, the devil was cast into fiery Gehenna along with his comrades. This is how evil appeared.

The Lord created man in his own image and likeness, and also endowed him with free will and loved him. The devil is extremely angry with the Creator, so he set out to destroy man. In the Garden of Eden, the serpent managed to achieve his goal and seduced Eve and Adam. People were expelled from Eden, and the devil celebrated his victory. Since then, the human soul has been a battlefield of light and darkness. And since a person is free to choose, demons try to wrap a gullible soul around their finger and destroy it.

So why is the Orthodox version logical? For the reason that an unbaptized person will not be saved, this is written in the Gospel. And if so, then there is no need to destroy him, he will die himself. Therefore, the attention of demons to him is minimal. A person who does not know the truth, who does not see the path to salvation, has signed his own death sentence, if you believe Orthodox dogmas.

But a baptized Christian can be saved, so demons attack him especially strongly. To help a faithful child, God gives a guardian angel. The theory of saving only the elect also has many opponents, but that’s a completely different story.

To summarize the above, it is necessary to clarify: there is no genuine knowledge about guardian angels, so it is impossible to say for sure how many of them a person has and whose version is correct. But the context of this article, intended for Christians, provides for the presence of one disembodied intercessor, according to the tenets of the Orthodox faith.

Appreciation of the Saints

Very often, Orthodox people themselves choose one of the famous saints as their patron. Feeling his support and help in all endeavors, a person experiences a feeling of grace. To express gratitude to the saint, you can do the following:

  • light a candle for the icon;
  • read the akathist;
  • donate to the temple;
  • give alms to a beggar;
  • turn with words of gratitude in prayer.

And, of course, do good deeds. They are the ones who will delight the saints who patronize you. Noble deeds will prove that the help they provided was not in vain.

As confirmation - an example from life. Alcoholism is a terrible disease, and Elena knew about it firsthand. Her husband Vadim is a heavy drinker: neither admonitions, nor scandals, nor coding helped him. Then Elena began to regularly attend church and ask Matronushka of Moscow to help her husband. A miracle happened: the man came to his senses and stopped drinking. Elena thanked Matronushka for a long time and promised to help everyone in need. She kept her word; and Vadim, indeed, never touched the bottle again.

Guardian angel - assistant, protector, mentor and psychologist?

Attributing human qualities to an intercessor given by the Lord is wrong. The Guardian will not cover you when you are mindlessly running across the road in front of the hood of an SUV, will not snatch a cigarette from a teenager’s hands, will not relieve you of depression. Angels obey God, but man does not obey anyone, he is the owner of free will. Therefore, a guardian angel cannot prevent a person’s desire, for example, to jump from a roof, but can direct the flight in such a way as to save life, if it is the will of God.

Salvation from a fall from a height is well described in the life of Seraphim of Sarov. As a little boy, the future saint fell from a bell tower and remained alive. Afterwards, the baby told his frightened mother that the angels took him and carried him. The Lord, who knew who this child would become, created a miracle. Thus, God predetermined the choice of his child and showed him the subtle world. The childhood experience sank deeply into the soul of the merchant’s son, and at the age of 16 Seraphim entered a monastery.

The same thing happens to people to this day. A series of accidents, miraculous phenomena. incredible events can be regarded as the help of a guardian angel. His invisible help is especially felt when a person prays. In the Orthodox faith, it is generally accepted that an angel is a conductor between God and man. The Guardian can contact the Creator directly and ask for us.

How to pray to your guardian angel

An angel is always nearby, even in the most difficult moments of our lives. It is wrong to think that the guardian moves away from sinners; he is always nearby. Perhaps if people remembered that all their actions are visible, they would not commit some rash actions.

You can pray to your guardian angel both in your own words and with prayers written by saints. If it is difficult to read the prayer book, you can learn a short prayer:

“Holy Angel of God, my Guardian, pray to God for me.”

You can say the phrase in the morning and evening, 10, 50 or 100 times, as you wish. This is the shortest but most effective appeal to your intercessor.

Biblical teaching about angels

Where do people get knowledge about the spiritual world invisible to them? Of course, from the Bible - this is a revelation of God, which was compiled by different people over many centuries. Angels are mentioned there quite often. Since some of the books included in the Bible are sacred for a number of other religions, each has formed its own idea of \u200b\u200bthe heavenly inhabitants.

According to Orthodox canons, Angels were created before Adam and Eve and the earth itself. The task of these disembodied creatures is to glorify the Lord, help Him, and help people save their souls. It is the Angel who sends the right thoughts that direct us to actions pleasing to God.

Heavenly spirits are immortal. They are often depicted on icons as young people with wings behind their backs, in liturgical (deacon's) robes, with a symbol of holiness (halo) above their heads. But they appeared to people in other images:

  • with six wings (sometimes in the form of an air stream);
  • with four faces;
  • in the form of swords, wheels with eyes;
  • in the form of animals - chimeras, centaurs, griffins, unicorns, etc.

Not all Angels are the same - they have a clear hierarchy, it is believed that there are 9 degrees in it. The devil was originally the most powerful of the heavenly spirits, but pride prompted him to rebel against the Creator. Lucifer did not want to recognize man; he himself wanted to become equal to God and seduced many other inhabitants of heaven, who are now spirits of evil.

First prayer: every day

This prayer is usually read after waking up, as part of morning prayers. But there is no strict time limit; you can pray during the day, on the way to work, or while walking the dog. The place where the prayer is read is completely unimportant. Only the mood matters. Read the lines carefully and try to understand the meaning. The prayer speaks of heartfelt contrition, repentance and regret for one’s sins. Next, the prayer asks the guardian angel for intercession before the Lord.

“O holy Angel, my good guardian and patron! With a contrite heart and a painful soul, I stand before you, praying: hear me, your sinful servant (name), crying with a strong cry and a bitter cry; Do not remember my iniquities and untruths, in whose image I, the accursed one, anger you all day and hour, and commit abomination to myself before our Creator, the Lord; Show yourself merciful to me and do not leave me, the vile one, even until my death; awaken me from the sleep of sin and with your prayers help me to pass through the rest of my life without blemish and create fruits worthy of repentance; moreover, protect me from the mortal falls of sin, so that I will not perish in despair, and may the enemy not rejoice over my destruction.

I truly confess with my lips that no one is such a friend and intercessor, protector and champion, like you, holy Angel: for standing before the Throne of the Lord, pray for me, indecent and most sinful of all, so that the Most Good One will not take away my soul on the day of my hopelessness and day of creation of evil. Do not cease to propitiate the Most Merciful Lord and my God, may He forgive me the sins that I have committed in all my life, in deed, in word and with all my feelings, and in the image of fate, may He save me, may He punish me here according to His ineffable mercy, but yes He will not convict or punish me according to His impartial justice; may he make me worthy to bring repentance, and with repentance may I be worthy of receiving Divine Communion, for this I pray more and I earnestly desire such a gift.

In the terrible hour of death, be persistent with me, my good guardian, driving away the dark demons that have the power to frighten my trembling soul; protect me from those traps, when the Imam passes through airy ordeals, yes, we protect you, I will safely reach the paradise I desire, where the faces of the saints and heavenly Powers constantly praise the all-honorable and magnificent name in the Trinity of the glorified God, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, to Him honor and worship are due forever and ever. Amen."

Prayer two: for all occasions

All a person’s life is surrounded by various situations, pleasant and not so pleasant. This does not depend on position in society or wealth; absolutely everyone has sorrow and suffering. The Lord arranges events in such a way as to lead the soul to salvation. Therefore, everyone experiences both sorrows and joys. In order for any life situation to go well, Christians trust their lives to God, His holy will. To do this, they turn to their guardian angel, asking him to pray for the ward.

“Holy Angel of Christ, falling to you I pray, my holy guardian, given to me for the protection of my sinful soul and body from Holy Baptism, but with my laziness and my evil custom I angered your most pure lordship and drove you away from me with all the cold deeds: lies, slander, envy, condemnation, contempt, disobedience, brotherly hatred, and resentment, love of money, adultery, rage, stinginess, gluttony without satiety and drunkenness, verbosity, evil thoughts and crafty ones, proud custom and lustful indignation, self-lust for all carnal lust. How can you look at me, or approach me like a stinking dog? Whose eyes, Angel of Christ, look upon me, entangled in evil in vile deeds? How can I already ask for forgiveness with my bitter and evil and crafty deed, I fall into misery all day and night and at every hour? But I pray to you, falling down, my holy guardian, have mercy on me, a sinful and unworthy servant of yours (name), be me a helper and intercessor against the evil of my opponent, with your holy prayers, and make me a partaker of the Kingdom of God with all the saints, always, and now and ever and ever. Amen."

Prayer three: for success in business

This prayer was written in the same way as the others, with the goal of bringing a person closer to the Lord and life according to the commandments. But some people tend to attribute miraculous properties to texts. It is believed that these lines help in business. But true Christians know that without the will of God not a single hair will fall from their head. Everything in life is aimed specifically at saving the soul, while the person himself, finding himself in a particular situation, can choose what to do. Asking your intercessor before God for success is strange.

For example, a person gets a job in a company that he really likes. Before the interview, he prayed to the angel for good luck in business. But the Lord is omnipotent, he knows that a person cannot work in this company, he can become spoiled from a large salary, start abusing alcohol or something worse and destroy his soul. Therefore, God takes a person away from working in this company. This is real luck, but we don’t understand it and often get angry at higher powers for our misfortunes. You can pray for luck, but be prepared to accept any outcome calmly and with reason.

“To the Angel of God, my holy Guardian, given to me from God from heaven for my protection, I diligently pray to Thee: Enlighten me today and save me from all evil, guide me to good deeds and direct me on the path of salvation. Amen."

Gratitude to the Mother of God

There are many images of the Mother of God, famous for their miracles: Kazan, Iverskaya, Tikhvin, Unfading Flower, Inexhaustible Chalice and many others. It is believed that through different icons the Mother of God helps in different needs. However, a prayer of gratitude to the Mother of God for help can be read in front of any icon. And, of course, if you prayed for something and the Blessed Virgin helped you, it is worth saying words of gratitude to Her precisely in front of this image. Find it in any temple.

You can read a prayer of gratitude for healing from illness, recovery, and avoidance of danger to life in the text below. Initially, this prayer was written in Church Slavonic by one of the greatest saints of the twentieth century, the wonderworker, Righteous John of Kronstadt - the priest of St. Andrew’s Cathedral in Kronstadt near St. Petersburg:

Glory to Thee, our Lord, Jesus Christ, the Only Son of the Beginning Father, the One who has the power to heal any ailments and ulcers in people! I thank and glorify you for having mercy on me, a sinner, and delivering me from my illness, not allowing it to develop and my death due to my sins. Give me from today, O Master Lord, the strength to firmly do Your will for the salvation of my sinful soul and for the glory of Your name with Your Beginning Father and Your Consubstantial Spirit, that I may glorify You forever. Amen.

Prayer four: for children

A mother's prayer can retrieve a child from the bottom of the sea. Of course, this is impossible to even dream about these days, but it is still important. Many atheists and doubters are interested in the question: if God is love, why does he allow the illness and death of young children?

Professor of Theology at the Moscow Theological Academy A.I. Osipov explains that a family is a single whole.

In general, all people are connected to each other, which is why it is so important to observe spiritual laws in relation to each other. But people of the same family are especially strongly connected, and the sins of parents sometimes lead to disastrous consequences for the entire family. If a child gets sick, this is a signal for a change in life. The professor's second answer also explains a lot. God allows illnesses out of love for his child. We don't know what a person's life will be like. Perhaps he will destroy his soul by causing pain and suffering to other people. Or maybe he himself will suffer all his life. By taking him as a child, the Lord saves him from suffering and introduces him to eternal life.

Why then does He leave us on earth? Only so that we can appreciate the love He gives us. Roughly speaking, without tasting the bitter, you won’t understand the sweet. And the children leaving us are already able to perceive the fullness of divine love, so any need in life disappears by itself.

From the point of view of parental grief, this is terrible. But if you understand that there is salvation beyond, everything falls into place. What mother doesn't want eternal life for her child?

“Holy Angel, Guardian of my child (name), cover him with your protection from the arrows of the demon, from the eyes of the seducer, and keep his heart pure. Amen."

How to give thanks

Many of those living on Earth have more than once had to receive unexpected help, sudden salvation, deliverance from mortal danger. This unexpected support came to us from God's messenger. The Guardian Angel fulfilled God's will with all angelic warmth and love.

He gives protection even to those who do not deserve it, because they fight for every soul. Every person living in this world is dear to the Guardian Angel.

As soon as we get rid of danger, our soul is filled with words of gratitude to our savior from trouble.

Having received salvation, thank your deliverer with the words that come from your very heart. You can light a candle, looking at the fire, listening to the crackling of the candle, and find the warmest, most sincere words of gratitude. Do not restrain yourself, even if tears prevent you from speaking.

Prayer five: for help in love

These are not requests for a successful marriage, as many people think. Love is the true path to the salvation of the soul. Everyday adversities, childhood traumas, resentments, anger or envy make a person callous. A wall grows between him and God that he cannot overcome on his own. Then people ask the guardian angel to give them love that will heal wounds and fill life with meaning. This is love for God, neighbor and self.

“O Angel of God, my holy Guardian, keep my life in the passion of Christ God, strengthen my mind in the true path, and wound my soul to heavenly love, so that by you we guide me, I will receive great mercy from Christ God.”

What are the ranks of angels?

The Fathers of the Church divide these incorporeal beings into the following hierarchies:

  1. The highest
    angels are called
    Seraphim, Cherubim and Thrones
    . The first of this rank are characterized by a fiery love for the Creator; even their names speak of this, meaning “fiery.” The latter are the highest bearers of knowledge and wisdom. Still others are the most spiritual and are conduits of God's grace;
  2. The next hierarchy, the middle one
    , is made up of angels with the following names:
    Dominion, Strength, Power
    . Accordingly, some help people overcome and overcome temptations by force of will, others know how to send the saints of God the ability to perform miracles, and still others strengthen the spiritual strength of the righteous and help them cope with demons;
  3. The lowest
    level, from the seventh to the ninth rank, are called
    Principalities
    ,
    Archangels and Angels
    . The first are endowed with the abilities and skills to protect and manage entire countries (peoples). The second (there are seven of them) enlighten the minds of people and strengthen their faith in the Savior, and the third are closest to us sinners, and they are our Guardians, protecting each individual person.

Sixth prayer: morning thanksgiving

You need to be grateful for everything, including failures. Who knows, maybe these adversities will turn into success? Humanity has not learned to look ahead and calculate the development of events. We don’t know why this or that case is sent to us. But we know for sure that everything in life is school. And every test is a lesson. The morning prayer of thanksgiving is aimed at greeting our protector, thanking him for his night vigil, because while we sleep, our angel stands at the throne of God and offers prayers for our soul. Well, how can we not thank him that we woke up in good health?

“Holy Angel, stand before me more wretched than my soul and more passionate than my life, do not forsake me, a sinner, nor depart from me for my intemperance. Do not give room to the evil demon to possess me through the violence of this mortal body; strengthen my poor and thin hand and guide me on the path of salvation. To her, holy Angel of God, guardian and patron of my accursed soul and body, forgive me everything, I have offended you so greatly all the days of my life, and if I sinned this past night, cover me on this day, and save me from every opposite temptation May I not anger God in any sin, and pray for me to the Lord, that He may strengthen me in His passion, and show me worthy as a servant of His goodness. Amen."

Seventh Prayer: Thanksgiving Evening

By analogy with morning prayer, in the evening a person gives thanks to the angel for the past day. For support, intercession and possible participation in some situations. After prayer, a person goes to bed, and his faithful guardian appears before the Lord and tirelessly asks Him for the salvation of our soul.

“Having thanked and glorified my Lord, the One God of the Orthodox Jesus Christ for His beneficence, I appeal to you, holy angel of Christ, Divine warrior. I appeal with a prayer of gratitude, I thank you for your mercy towards me and for your intercession for me before the face of the Lord. Be glorified in the Lord, angel!

Gratitude to the Lord

The Gospel tells us how the Lord Jesus Christ healed ten people from an incurable disease at that time - leprosy. This was an obvious miracle of God: Christ simply directed them to show themselves to the priests, the lepers left him sick, and everyone was healed along the way. It was obvious that this could only happen through the power of Christ. However, out of ten, only one person returned to say a word of thanks to the Lord Jesus! Of course, the Lord was upset seeing such human ingratitude. We are also saddened when reading about this incident, but we forget that God’s grace and mercy are often poured out on us, but we do not turn to the Lord with gratitude, we are too lazy to even say the words of a prayer of gratitude to Him and express a feeling of gratitude.

With a happy resolution of life’s difficulties, passing through life’s stages, you need to say words of gratitude to God (as well as to people!) both in home and church prayer. Having prepared, proceed to Confession and Communion at the Liturgy. Order a prayer of thanksgiving to the Lord Jesus Christ or the Most Holy Theotokos, which the priest will perform after the Liturgy. Thus, you will follow the example of the tenth healed leper who said a word of thanks to God.

We must remember that prayer is not a ritual or a conspiracy. As in communicating with ordinary people, in order to correctly communicate with God and the Guardian Angel, you must follow the following rules. These are rather the rules of dialogue, conversation with Him, so that you yourself can hear the words of the Creator in your heart:

  • Pray consciously, listen to the words of prayers.
  • Believe that God hears you. He will do whatever is best for you in all circumstances. We all have to go through certain difficulties, learning life lessons, becoming stronger, smarter and kinder.
  • Pray to the Lord at home, ask Him for help in any difficulties and turn to Him words of gratitude for His care. The Church blesses us to read the morning and evening prayers every day, which are in every prayer book, with appeals and repentance and a word of gratitude to the Lord, the Most Holy Theotokos, the Guardian Angel. Any prayers can be read both in the temple and in front of the home iconostasis.
