What is the Indestructible Psalter and where can I order it?

History and significance

The Psalter is one of the most ancient liturgical books, which was created by David, is a poetic work and has its roots in the 4-5 centuries AD. The name comes from a ten-string musical instrument that is somewhat similar to a harp. The book is actively used in the modern Church, and it is divided into three main sections:

  • instructive;
  • laudatory;
  • repentant;

Separate parts of the Psalter are recited before reading the Bible and church songs. The collection, consisting of individual texts (psalms), was included in the monastery charter near the Euphrates River by Abbot Alexander. For a long time he did not dare to include the Indestructible Psalter in the list of obligatory prayers for reading and asked God for a sign. Alexander read the texts for three years and received permission from the Lord, which sounded verbatim: “Begin what you have planned - it pleases Me.”

Just after this event, the monastery was renamed the monastery of the Unsleeping. After these events, Alexander opened several more monasteries, and stories about this innovation began to be passed on from mouth to mouth of parishioners. Gradually, the psalms began to be read all over the world.

One of the varieties of forms of cell monastic prayer, directed to the Lord, could once be read by one person. This was achieved by Egyptian and Palestinian hermit monks, who managed to read the Psalter in a day, without interruption for a second.

In Moscow, the reading of the Indestructible Psalter can be ordered in large monasteries of the capital

Moscow monasteries are famous for their monks, who can conduct a service with the reading of the Undying Psalter.

At the same time, believers often ask: in which monastery is it read best? The question cannot be posed this way, because any church sacrament is performed to establish a connection with the Lord.

At the same time, where it happens is absolutely unimportant. If it is necessary to clarify where the Indestructible Psalter is read, then you need to know that it is always read about health and repose in the following monasteries in Moscow:

  • Borisoglebsk;
  • Zaikonospassky;
  • Zachatievsky;
  • Pokrovsky;
  • Sretensky;
  • Holy Trinity Lavra;
  • Khotkov Monastery.

Here you can order the reading of the Undying Psalter. In Moscow there are other monasteries, and even churches, in which the Psalter is read according to this rite. Most often, Christians turn to the listed monasteries to order the reading of a prayer for health or for peace.

The reason for this is the great experience of the monks of these monasteries in reading the Psalter. This allows you to conduct services around the clock without interrupting your prayer connection with God.

The monastery lives on donations. That is why for reading the Indestructible Psalter of the monastery it is necessary to donate a certain amount or present a material gift

Separately, it is worth saying that, like any church services, the reading of the Indestructible Psalter cannot be ordered for:

  • heterodox - Protestants and Catholics;
  • Gentiles - Jews, Buddhists, etc.

In addition, it is prohibited to perform suicide rituals. To do this, you must receive a special blessing from the bishop. It will also be needed in controversial cases.

The monks have special journals with the names of Christians that must be mentioned. You can serve the Indestructible Psalter, both for the health and peace of your family and friends, for your well-being. Order a reading in order to:

  1. Protect a loved one from negative influences “from the outside” and the influence of evil spirits.

  3. For the well-being of the world.
  4. Extinguish negative manifestations in a person’s soul: anger, anger, greed.
  5. Heal the body or the crippled soul.

If the Psalter of Repose is read, one should not remember those who committed suicide.

Prayer for health allows you to heal ailments, and for peace to find peace for the soul of the deceased. Prayer allows you to appease the Lord and bring sinners out of hell. Since during the first 40 days the soul of the deceased overcomes ordeal, it is necessary to support the deceased soul with prayer.

Usually, the reading of prayers for repose is ordered directly on the day of a person’s death or the day after it.

The Psalter for Repose is a great prayer for the departed soul.

The order of this prayer is such that it allows the soul of the deceased to overcome ordeals on the way to the Kingdom of Heaven.

In addition, it makes it possible to alleviate his sins. Read the Psalter for the deceased for 40 days. This is done so that the soul of the deceased receives peace and grace.

Reading order at home

The reading of the psalms can be ordered at the monastery or read independently at home. Worshipers recommend involving all family members in this process and drawing up a schedule in advance. If a person wants to do this alone, then he should definitely try, don’t be afraid. The Lord will always give strength. Before you start reading the Indestructible Psalter, you should familiarize yourself with the basic rules:

  • when reading, a church candle or lamp should be lit;
  • you should prepare the place and make sure that nothing interferes with the process;
  • reading should take place measuredly, slowly, out loud, in a quiet voice;
  • it is important to read kathismas while sitting, so you should prepare a chair;
  • songs and “glories” are declared only while standing;
  • The sincerity of the reading is important, you don’t need to force yourself to do it;
  • exclude gestures, artistry, pathos.

If during reading a person does not understand some idea of the text, he should then turn to the clergy so that he can interpret the meaning of this or that passage.

Before starting, it is important to read a prayer, turn to God and ask for strength. After reading, it is important to visit a temple or church, confess and receive communion.

Reading the Indestructible Psalter is a prayer of special power

Reading the Psalter according to the rite of the “Unsleeping One” is reading a prayer of special power.

The fact is that when they pray for a specific person on it, the Grace of God descends on him. Its power is so great that crafty demons flee from it, and passions are tamed.

Reading the Undying Psalter. The Inexhaustible Psalter is read either in the monastery or in the church attached to it

The reading of the psalter begins after the blessing of the clergy in the temple or monastery. The order of reading is determined by the abbot of the monastery. In this case, daytime and nighttime hours are distinguished.

Magazines are usually placed next to the Psalter. They contain the names of Orthodox Christians, both living and deceased. The monks pray for them, and the Inexhaustible Pslate is read for them. By the way, in ancient times in Rus' it was also called “Sorokoust” and reading it was a mandatory attribute of worship.

Video: “Reading the Psalter by the monks of the Valaam Monastery.”

The prayers from the Indestructible Psalter are read as follows: the first and second “Glory” are a prayer for the living, the third is for the repose. “Glory” means saying the prayer-doxology “Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit...”

Kathisma consists of three such exclamations, which divide the kathisma into parts. Kathismas are part of the 150 psalms that make up the Psalter. After each “Glory”, the reader of the prayer opens the memorial journals and lists the names of the people recorded in them.

Where to order the Indestructible Psalter and how much it costs

The Indestructible Psalter was created so that the reader and the people mentioned in the texts become closer to the Lord. The Church does not prohibit reading psalters at home, but if a person wants to order them, he should only contact the monastery. This is due to the fact that:

  • only the novice of the monastery has special grace to beg the laity;
  • monks take a vow to offer prayers for the whole world;
  • the ministers in the monastery renounced worldly vanity;
  • monks devote all their time to worship and prayer life;
  • These people are closest to God, live by prayer, and are far from worldly passions.

You need to pay for the Undying Psalter. This was done solely because most monasteries are in dire need of funding. You should accept payment in the form of a donation and contact only a place that has the rank of a nunnery.
