Why does God allow good people to die?

Many people in the world wonder why a loving God allows good people to suffer and die so early? One acquaintance does not understand why his son, an aspiring athlete in a star football club, died so early? Why do outstanding scientists die so quickly?

Why do children die in car accidents, but the culprits survive? Why should someone who is kind and compassionate suffer for years in unbearable pain while confined to a wheelchair? Why did my first child die during childbirth without ever taking his first breath?

Why does God miraculously spare drug addicts and murderers, but take away good people? Often people, having suddenly lost loved ones, turn away from God, blaming him for their suffering. Carrying a small coffin, you realize that the unthinkable has happened, and you cannot fix anything or start over. Why do those we desperately love die early?

And, covered with unexpected ashes, people begin to ask why God allowed this? And to be more specific, why does God allow me to suffer? Questions like these keep some people from believing in Christ. This causes even those who were active churchgoers to walk away from God completely. Of course, it will be difficult to answer all these questions in one short article, but we will try to explain some positions.

When talking about human suffering, we need to rely on five truths. And the first truth is that it’s not about us. Every person believes on a daily basis that life is only about him. Opening his eyes, he begins to think about his day, time, affairs, hopes, hunger, problems and so on. All day long, each of us is driven by emotions driven by personal dreams and needs.

Even when serving others, a person does it on his own terms, for example, when it is convenient for him, or if he does everything well, then others will see and appreciate it. The human “I” at this time is the center of the universe created by him. Therefore, suffering can destroy the world planned and built by each of us individually. And this position is fundamentally wrong. The truth is that the center of the visible and invisible Universe is God, and the life of a particular person lies only in Him.

Suffering is the very means by which God fulfills His will for His Universe. Whether consciously believing in God or not, a person thinks that he has made a good deal by following God, who is the King of the Universe. He gives comfort, good health, beautiful children, enough money so that a person can do what he wants. Jesus called people to follow Him for a reason.

He called to renounce yourself and take up your cross, and only then follow Him. Following God, a person loses his life for the sake of Christ. Therefore man lives crucified.

The second truth is that God is with man in his suffering. He does not leave people alone, always being present nearby. God is with us. God's presence is palpable. The Lord is spiritually pure, like a pillar of cloud and a pillar of fire. He holds a person and gives him strength and words to support his children and loved ones. God is present with a person who is in deep loneliness and melancholy, day and night. He bites into pain and sadness, so do not allow yourself to lose Him in difficult moments of life.

The third truth is that God Himself suffered. God could suffer far from us. He could make a world in which there is no suffering, there is nothing bad. But man ruined everything by violating his prohibition, bringing sin into the world. The consequences of this resulted in disease, famine, war and death. But even so, almighty God could fix this world.

But then He would have to exercise control over our every movement, every heartbeat. People would become puppets in his hands, unable to dream, move, or make decisions on their own. Therefore, God came to earth in the body of His own Son Jesus. He was rejected in his hometown. The people he was sent to serve did not accept him. Jesus endured hunger, fatigue, poverty, and pain. He endured false accusations, mockery, beatings, spitting, insults, contempt, hatred, torture and crucifixion. Christ was condemned to death and reproach.

The fourth truth is that God suffered because of us. The Creator could easily soar above human suffering. He is complete perfection in Heaven without any human presence. For this he does not need the worship and love of people. Some believe that God could offer help in our suffering, but He offered Himself. He voluntarily appeared in the world He created and endured the suffering intended for people. He Himself bore sorrows and suffered for human iniquities.

God's suffering for people frees humanity from eternal suffering, and this is the fifth truth. People ask why God allows good people to suffer. This happens because people have labeled themselves as “good.” By paying taxes, raising children, volunteering, and attending church, people believe that this makes them higher before God than those who lead an immoral lifestyle. They call themselves good people. But this comparison is not appropriate.

The measure of goodness before God is not paying taxes on time or having a child who is a drug addict. The only measure of goodness can only be considered God - the measure of perfection. God is impeccably holy - but people are not. The Lord is absolutely good – but people are not. The Creator is impeccably righteous, but people are not. Everyone should know about themselves that they are evil. People completely lose sight of the fact that there are no absolutely good people on Earth.

Therefore, the question disappears as to why God allowed good people to suffer. A better question to ask is why did God put some bad people out of their misery? God saved humanity because he loves peace. People are easily seduced, they easily step on God because of their suffering, leaving him. But God never turns away from people.

Sooner or later, a teenager is faced with a choice: to gnaw on the granite of science, without having guarantees of a decent job, or to have fun and get high. We understand that this pleasure is false. But young people seem to be choosing this path, and statistics confirm our guesses.

It is better for parents who have lost children not to try to penetrate into the secrets of God’s providence, but to transform their grief into fervent prayer to God for the repose of the souls of their children.

For believers there is no word - death, as something finite and empty. Death separates us from our loved ones, and it does not depend on us whether a person lives or dies. Orthodox believe that there is no death, and when a person dies, he passes from temporary life to eternal life.

When and how a person dies is decided by higher powers

So: why do people die? All people descended from Adam, and the answer to the question of death must be sought in the origins of human existence, namely, in the Fall.

The Holy Scripture states: “God did not create death” (Wisdom 1:13). The Greek theologian Metropolitan Hierotheos (Vlachos) writes: “The sin that resulted in death was the fall of Adam in the paradise of sweetness.

God, having given man the commandment not to eat from the forbidden fruit, at the same time informed him:

“The day you eat of it, you will surely die.”

And after committing sin, death entered human nature; first spiritual death, which consists in the separation of the human soul from God, and then physical death - the separation of the soul from the body.”

From the point of view of most religions, death is the death of the physical body, the shell. Humanity has never doubted the existence of the other world. After all, even ancient people put weapons and dishes in the graves of the dead, preparing them for the afterlife. This is what the Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans did.

Peoples who did not know about each other’s existence believed in the same thing - the existence of life after death.

And the most compelling evidence of the existence of life after death is the resurrection of Christ.

When and how a person dies is decided by higher powers. You can get into accidents many times, drown, fall from a window, but remain alive. This means that a person has not yet finished his earthly affairs, his path. They say about such people: “Born in a shirt.”

Others die suddenly, despite precautions, and their death seems absurd and premature. There are no accidental deaths and each person dies within the time limit that he earned and that was determined for him by higher powers. But God does not reveal to people the hour of their death, since it is not useful to them.

   Why did I stay and my son left at the age of 30? After it, I don’t need it and there’s no point in living. Such grief burns and you want to leave this life as quickly as possible
