A special place is given to the Jesus Prayer, which helps every person grow in piety.

  • The work of C. Lewis “The Chronicles of Narnia” was created at the beginning of the twentieth century. The publication consists of seven books, the writing style is fantasy. The reader discovers a magical land, into which several ordinary guys from England find themselves. Here the animals understand human language, talk and make friends with people. There is a lot of magic in the country, good fights evil, friendship and compassion are tested by difficult trials. At the end of the book, the author tells children about the sacrificial love of the Creator of the World, about His Resurrection. Orthodox children's books are designed to help the child give those guidelines that will then guide him in later life. At an early age, a person’s character is formed - habits and preferences, views and motivation for certain actions, but, rather, the most important thing is “what” exactly will be the basis of all this. For us, as Christians, it is obvious that the soul of a child is also looking for his role models - carefully looking at the examples in the life around him, a little person tries to understand at his level of understanding - what is good and what is bad, as well as why this is what is “good” or “bad”.

The child’s actions completely depend on his upbringing - what the parents invest at this stage is what the child will be guided in his actions. How the child will treat his friends and other children, how he will interact with his parents and family, all this will be a direct consequence of the pedagogical process in which both he and the adults around him take part.

The main and main difference between Orthodox children's books and secular analogues of children's literature is the meanings embedded in them, namely moral worldviews. The basis of such a foundation is God - the rules of community life (commandments) given to people serve for the benefit of people, allow them to exist peacefully in a common society - the commandments are given for the good and show what a person should be during his earthly journey. And of course, for a little person, certain forms of presenting such knowledge must be developed - for example, hagiographic literature (lives of saints for children) copes with this task perfectly. In simple language, using accessible examples in lives, the path that a person takes following the commandments of Christ is shown, personally embodying His teaching through the example of his actions and his life.

It is impossible to ignore such an important form of Orthodox education as various children's Orthodox fiction - these can be collections of fictional stories and tales, narrative reading, collections of various edifying parables.

And finally, the Law of God for children will allow the child to begin acquaintance with direct Christian teaching - the young reader will learn who created man and why, what Faith is, why and why it was given to man, why prayer is needed, how to behave correctly in church, why Christ taught and will also come into contact with the history of the Church (the recommended age for studying the Law of God is from 5 years old) It should be remembered that in Orthodoxy the place of the book is not only an interesting leisure activity, or even more so, entertainment (as in secular publications), but, on the contrary, the book here is inextricably linked with one of the important criteria of Christianity - namely, to bring, first of all, benefit to the soul, to convey through letters and pages that invaluable spiritual experience that is associated with the thousand-year tradition of dialogue between man and God. And let our little person, step by step, gradually, first learn about such an opportunity, and slowly, gradually becoming a church member, become the same equal participant in such a dialogue, the pinnacle of which is a worthy life spent here and the eternal life that follows..

Literature for teenagers

The modern world is full of vices and temptations that destroy the psyche of children and contribute to personality degradation. That is why the interests of a child, especially a teenager, must be directed in the right direction.

His parents and good, correct books can help him with this.

  • It is especially useful for children to read during adolescence God's Law and the New Testament, because it is at the age of 10-16 that fragile minds touch upon philosophical questions of existence. Christian parables and legends can broaden a child’s horizons. And familiarity with books telling about the history of the Church contributes to a more attentive attitude to church services.

    God's law

  • The work of monk Alexy of the “Spark of God” cycle contains biographies of saints, martyrs, miracle workers, and ascetics of Orthodoxy. Every life story is an example of purity of soul and spirit. The book contains ancient photographs, reproductions of icons and paintings.
  • Y. Voznesenskaya’s work “Lancelot’s Pilgrimage” describes the near future: the consequences of an environmental disaster and the unification of European countries under the rule of a president who calls himself the “messiah.” Readers travel to Jerusalem with an alien named Lance, who longs for healing from a newly minted “savior.” The events that took place make travelers think about love, faith and goodness.
  • A. Limonov’s book “The Praskovya Girl” describes a chance meeting between the modern Moscow boy Zhorka and the God-fearing provincial girl Praskovya. The guys find themselves in the dense taiga, many scary but exciting adventures await them. A common goal unites the teenagers, as a result of which the smug and proud Zhorka comes to faith and repentance.
  • “Spark of God. For the courageous and brave." Each chapter of the book tells about people who loved their Motherland and devotedly served the Fatherland. Among them are great commanders, noble princes, discoverers, generals, heroes. Strength of spirit and trust in God helped them fight the enemy. The work is supplemented with bright illustrations.
