What is the morning prayer rule?
Every true believer knows that you need to pray every day. Prayer for him is a unique way of meditation, reflection on his actions, a chance to thank the Lord and talk about his fears.
IMPORTANT: Certain prayers deserve reading in the morning after sleep. You can read such a prayer before the end of the first “third” of the whole day. This is no more than 4 hours after the sun rose.
The morning prayer rule is a series of prayers that should be read in the first part of the day. As a rule, this prayer is the same for all clergy of Orthodox churches. This prayer is intimate and has the most beautiful words praising God.
The morning rule contains everything that a person can and should say to the Lord:
- Gratitude for life and the night you lived
- For health and strength in the morning
- For deceased relatives
- For living loved ones
The morning prayer is written in Russian quite simply and intelligibly, so that it can reach anyone’s heart.

Prayer 5, St. Basil the Great
Lord Almighty, God of hosts and all flesh, living in the highest and looking down on the humble, testing the hearts and wombs and innermost parts of men, the fore-foreseen One, the Beginningless and Ever-Everlasting Light, with Him there is no change or overshadowing; Himself, Immortal King, accept our prayers, even now, boldly for the multitude of Your bounties, from the bad lips we create towards You, and forgive us our sins, whether in deed, word, or thought, knowledge or ignorance, we have sinned; and cleanse us from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit. And grant us with a cheerful heart and a sober thought to pass through the whole night of this present life, awaiting the coming of the bright and revealed day of Your Only Begotten Son, the Lord and God and our Savior Jesus Christ, the Judge of all will come with glory, to whom to give according to his deeds; May we not fall and become lazy, but be watchful and raised up for the work that is to come, and prepare for the joy and Divine palace of His glory, where those who celebrate the unceasing voice and the ineffable sweetness of those who behold Your face, the ineffable kindness. For You are the true Light, you enlighten and sanctify all things, and all creation sings to You forever and ever. Amen.
Translation:
Lord Almighty, God of disembodied forces and all flesh, living on the heights of heaven and looking down upon the valleys of the earth, observing hearts and thoughts and clearly knowing the secrets of men, the Beginningless and Eternal Light, which has no changes in power and leaves no shadowed place on His path. You Yourself, Immortal King, accept our prayers, which we now, hoping for the abundance of Your compassion, bring to You from unclean lips; and forgive us our sins, committed by us in deed, word and thought, consciously or unconsciously, and cleanse us from all impurity of flesh and spirit. And grant us with a watchful heart and a sober thought to live the whole night of this earthly life, in anticipation of the coming of the bright and glorious day of the second coming of Your Only Begotten Son, the Lord God and our Savior Jesus Christ, when the common Judge will come with glory to reward everyone according to his deeds. May He find us not lying down and sleepy, but awake and risen in the midst of the fulfillment of His commandments, and ready to enter with Him into the joy and Divine palace of His glory, where the unceasing voices of those who triumph and the inexpressible joy of those who see the inexpressible beauty of Your face. For You are the true Light, enlightening and sanctifying the whole world, and You are glorified by all creation forever and ever. Amen.
Sins are deeds
- when this matter is contrary to the commandment of God.
For example, if a person indulges in overeating, drunkenness, and delicacies, then he sins against the commandment of God “Thou shalt not make for yourself an idol or any likeness.” Sins in words
- when this word is contrary to the will of God.
For example, idle talk, indecent words and songs are sins in words. Sins in a word - slander of one's neighbor, slander, condemnation. Sins of thought
are desires, thoughts that are contrary to love for our neighbor, when we act against the commandment of God “Thou shalt not covet anything that belongs to Thy neighbor.”
These sins are just as serious as sins in deed and word. Sins of knowledge
are those that we do, knowing that they are prohibited by the law of God, we do them according to our passions, pride, malice, laziness, etc. and justify ourselves with false arguments.
Sins of ignorance
arise from the weakness of human nature.
Who will see their mistakes?
- says the prophet David (Ps. 18:13) and adds a prayer:
Cleanse me from my secrets
, that is, from sins committed by me through weakness and ignorance, which are either unknown to me, or which I do not remember, or which I do not even consider to be sins. .
Prayer 9, to the Guardian Angel
Holy Angel, standing before my accursed soul and my passionate life, do not leave me, a sinner, nor depart from me for my intemperance. Do not give room to the evil demon to possess me with the violence of this mortal body; strengthen my poor and thin hand and guide me on the path of salvation. To her, holy Angel of God, guardian and patron of my accursed soul and body, forgive me everything, I have offended you so greatly all the days of my life, and if I sinned this past night, cover me on this day, and save me from every opposite temptation May I not anger God in any sin, and pray for me to the Lord, that He may strengthen me in His passion, and show me worthy as a servant of His goodness. Amen.
At baptism, God gives every Christian a Guardian Angel, who invisibly protects a person from all evil. Therefore, we must ask the Angel every day to preserve and have mercy on us.
Translation:
Holy Angel, appointed to guard my poor soul and unhappy life, do not leave me, a sinner, and do not depart from me for my intemperance; do not give the opportunity to the evil demon to subjugate me with the predominance of this mortal body; Take firmly my unfortunate and drooping hand and lead me to the path of salvation. Oh, holy Angel of God, guardian and patron of my poor soul and body, forgive me everything with which I have offended you all the days of my life, and if I sinned in any way last night, protect me this day; and protect me from every temptation of the enemy, so that I do not anger God with any sin, and pray to the Lord for me, so that He will confirm me in His fear and make me a slave worthy of His mercy. Amen.

Pray to God for me, holy servant of God (name)
, as if I diligently resort to you, a quick helper and a prayer book for my soul.
Az
- I;
I come running
- I turn in prayer. In addition to praying to the Guardian Angel, we must also pray to the saint by whose name we are named, because he also always prays to God for us. Every Christian at holy baptism is given a saint as a helper and patron by the Holy Church. He takes care of us and saves us from all the troubles and misfortunes that we encounter on earth.

Pray to God for me, saint (or saint) (name), because I diligently resort to you, my helper and prayer book for my soul.

How to approach the ritual
It should be remembered that Orthodox Christians do not treat prayers the way pagans treat rituals and spells. When preparing for the prayer rule, we must understand that we are preparing to appear before the One who created us, who is our King and Master. It's useful to imagine that your boss calls you in the morning. You will try to appear as reserved and conscious as possible to show your good side. You must begin your conversation with God with even greater responsibility.
Imagine that you are standing before the Lord of Heaven, taking the humble path, and remembering your sins. The Holy Fathers advise not to think or conjure up fictitious pictures. This state of mind can lead to deviation.
Prayer must combine the action of the three elements of the personality: mind, soul and spirit. The mind is responsible for clarity of thought, we should not be distracted, we should not allow ourselves to think about strange things. We must understand the meaning of the words we read. You can read morning prayers without explaining the reasons, but before doing so, make sure that everything written in them is clear to you. When in doubt, one should consult the commentaries of the saints rather than utter meaningless words.
The soul is responsible for our emotional states. We must cultivate in our souls a feeling of love for God and neighbor, an awareness of the joy of existence and boundless gratitude for the life that has been given to us. During prayer, sad moods may also appear, associated with paying for his ingratitude, judging others, breaking a commandment.
It's important to be honest. Saints can cry with joy or with bitterness during prayer - both of these forms are equally good towards God. However, we must remember the dangers of artificially inducing emotional states. One should not expect a prayerful state of ecstasy every morning. But you can ask God to free you from the fossilized heart.
When a person achieves perfection in prayer, not only the soul and mind are involved, but also the ghost. The Spirit connects us with God, and allows us to live not only in the material world, but also in the spiritual world. We must avoid temptation and try to achieve spiritual perfection faster. A sign of the indwelling grace of the Holy Spirit in our prayers is a sense of humility and modesty.
Before prayer, it is good to stand in silence for some time to take your mind off unnecessary things. The ritual of prayer should begin with making the sign of the cross. While praying to God, you need to look at the icons. The prayer should be accompanied by shells, but keep in mind that on Sunday you should not do earthly things on earth.
Although the prayer texts were originally organized in the Cerkiewnosłowian language, the Morning prayers in Russian do not violate Orthodox canons. It is necessary to determine how to read all the words in the texts of the prayer in order to read them correctly, with emphasis in those places that you need.
