History of the temple

The history of the Church of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary dates back to 1635, when a monastery was built by order of Tsar Mikhail Fedorovich Romanov, the first ruler of the Holy Romanov family. During her life, Mother Matrona said that after her death, everyone who needs her help should come to her and she will help everyone and console everyone. Almost 67 years have passed since her death, and she still continues to help every Orthodox Christian who believes in the power of her prayer.

Architecture of the Intercession Monastery

The architectural ensemble of the Intercession Monastery includes a whole complex of buildings and structures, as well as the monastery courtyard, located in the village. Markovo Ramensky district. On the territory of the monastery there are:

The Cathedral of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary is the main temple of the monastery complex, where the relics of St. Matrona are kept. The building has two floors, built in the classicist style - with a round dome, porticoes and triangular pediments.

The Church of the Resurrection of the Word is a temple with five domes, built in the Romanov style according to the design of M.D. Bykovsky.

The bell tower, 30 m high , was rebuilt after the explosion of 1926 only in 1999. The first stone for the construction was laid by Patriarch Alexy II himself.

The Temple of Peter and Fevronia is a temple-chapel, restored in 2014 from surviving historical photographs. Couples love to get married here, since Saints Peter and Fevronia are revered as patrons of family values. Inside the building there is also a baptismal sanctuary with a large font for adults.

Necropolis – many associates of the Orthodox Church were buried in the monastery cemetery. During Soviet times, a park was built on this site. During the period of revival of the monastery, several tombstones were found during excavations. In memory of those buried, a worship cross was erected behind the Church of the Resurrection.

On the territory of the monastery there is a church shop where you can buy any Orthodox paraphernalia. The shop is located to the right of the main entrance. Opening hours: 8.00–20.00 daily, seven days a week. In the monastery park there is a heated refectory designed for 200 people. Anyone can refresh themselves and listen to church hymns.

For the youngest parishioners there is a children's playground (located opposite the Church of the Resurrection) with horizontal bars, slides, swings and a trampoline.

The nuns conduct free tours around the monastery. special rules for visiting the Intercession Monastery; you must adhere to standard norms of behavior in holy places.
