Historical events

This temple differs from other holy repositories in its tent style. Currently, he is active in charitable activities aimed at helping the needy, the poor, orphans, and the disabled. The temple is open to visitors every day.

The name of the area where the temple is located comes from the name of the settlement Chertanovo, which in the middle of the last century became part of the capital. The building itself was erected in 1997 at the request of the local Christian community, which needed to hold services. Considering that Moscow has a large population, the number of parishioners was constantly increasing.

The question arose about the need to expand the structure. It was decided to begin construction of a stone temple. In 2001, they began to build a huge 2-story building with 5 tents. It was put into operation at the end of 2013. Its architect is I. N. Voskresensky.

The upper temple was named in honor of the Sovereign Icon, and the lower one - several passion-bearers. During the 12-year period while construction was carried out, the drawings were subject to changes several times.

All her life she helped people and considered this her main calling. With her work and kind words, Anastasia helped the prisoners, freeing them from despair and helplessness. She was punished for her own actions: she was burned. However, the fire did not harm her body. Initially, her relics were kept where she was buried - in Sirmium. Then they were transferred to Constantinople, and after a while they were dispersed to all European countries
Icon of Elizabeth FeodorovnaOne of the most recognizable images in Orthodoxy. They often turn to this icon, praying for help and intercession before the Almighty. She helps mainly women: in difficult childbirth, in nursing premature babies. It can also heal women’s diseases such as breast and uterine cancer

History of the temple

The name of the territorial area comes from the name of the village of Chertanovo, which was located here earlier and only in 1960 became part of the city. This area was located on the banks of the Chertanovka River, the waters of which are now diverted to the Moscow River. Over time, this began to be the name of the street on which the functioning wooden church of the Sovereign Icon of the Mother of God in Chertanovo is located.

This building was built in 1997 on the initiative of the Orthodox community of the region. Since the population of the capital is not small, the number of parishioners also grew. Soon the question of expansion arose and a general decision was made to begin construction of a stone temple. In 2002, construction began on a large two-tier building with five tents.

Interesting facts and legends

  1. Several years before the building appeared in the place where it is located today, one of the local residents saw a bright glow many times. She understood this as a sign, so she organized an Orthodox community, which was subsequently able to obtain permission from local authorities to build an Orthodox building in this place.
  2. There is an interesting story about the Sovereign Icon itself. In 1917, on the very day when the last Russian emperor left the throne, one of the believers heard in a dream a call to change the color of the large icon from black to red. The next time she saw in a dream a white church with the Mother of God sitting on it. Having understood the signs, the woman came to the Ascension Cathedral. Believers found an icon in the basement of the temple, which was very dusty and therefore seemed completely black. When the impurities were removed, an image of the Mother of God shone on it, holding a scepter in one hand and an orb in the other. There was a crown on her head. Her clothes were red, and Jesus himself sat on her lap as a baby. Since then, the icon has not left the walls of the Ascension Cathedral.

  3. It is believed that the Sovereign Icon, which is the main shrine of the cathedral, patronizes Russian rulers. She is able to save believers from many serious illnesses and other sufferings. Many claim that it even helps solve financial problems. Most often they pray before her for peace in the country and ask God to ensure that war never starts. The icon helps to pacify anger and stop absurd hostility.
