On the set of the series “The Burning Bush” based on the story by Boris Vasiliev, the actors had to let the echo of war pass through them.
“The Burning Bush” is the title of a story by front-line writer Boris Vasiliev, author of the story “And the Dawns Here Are Quiet...”. The main character Antonina Ivanshina returns from the war, coarsened, having lost her femininity. She survived wounds, concussions, a stroke and received awards for her participation in battles. But the war is over - times of peace have arrived, which turns out to be even harder for her. It is no coincidence that Vasiliev took such a title for the work. The burning bush is an Old Testament image; it is a burning, but miraculously not burning, thorn bush.
The role of the main character was played by Klavdiya Korshunova.
The plot of the series
The plot is based on the fate of a young woman who has walked the roads of war and is trying to build a life in peacetime. During the Great Patriotic War, Antonina lost her family, ended up in a partisan detachment, and met the end of the war with the rank of senior intelligence lieutenant.
Throughout the entire series, the tragedy of human life, disfigured by the horrors of war, is shown through the example of one heroine. A difficult period of adaptation to peaceful life, which can be worse than war. It is not clear what to do when a small corner in a communal apartment is allocated for living, it is impossible to get a job, and your personal life is not working out. Only iron willpower can help you find your place in life.
When will the series “The Burning Bush Season 2” be released?
The series “The Burning Bush” was created based on the story of the same name by Boris Vasiliev, as well as his story “Counter Battle”. In this regard, it can be assumed that the director did not initially plan a continuation of the film. The story of the main character is told in full. However, do not be upset, because military themes are very popular among directors and viewers. This means that we will see brilliant films on air more than once, especially before Russians’ favorite holiday – Victory Day.

What is the Burning Bush
According to the description of the second book of the Pentateuch (Torah) - “The Burning Bush” is the ancient name of a thorn bush or blackberry in the fire of which God appeared to the prophet Moses. Moses, then wandering through the desert, being at the foot of Mount Sinai, on the slope of the mountain saw a thorn bush burning with a bright flame.
Seeing this unusual phenomenon, Moses came closer, and God appeared before him in the fire of a burning thorn bush and from the fire of a burning bush ordered Moses not to approach the place of the miraculous phenomenon and to take off his shoes. After which the Lord called Moses to serve the Jewish people, who were living in slavery to the Egyptians at that time, for which he had to lead the Jewish people from Egypt to the Promised Land.
What did the writers prepare for us in the finale?
Throughout the entire film, viewers followed the difficult fate of Antonina. How much grief and failures the woman had to endure, but she still did not give up and, despite everything, continued to move forward. For many, it was obvious that in the finale the woman would be rewarded and finally find her happiness, but the writers decided otherwise.
After another attack, Nikolai points a gun at his son Yurka. At this time, Antonina enters the room and covers the boy with herself. Troshin pulls the trigger. At the hospital, Lara tells the children that Antonina died due to a displaced fragment that blocked an artery.
What Moses saw at the Burning Bush
One day, when Moses was tending a flock of sheep, he came to Mount Horeb, as Mount Sinai was then called. Not far away, on the mountainside, they saw a thorn bush with a flame blazing above it, but for some reason the fire did not burn the branches of the bush. Interested in this unusual phenomenon, he came closer.
And then Moses heard a voice proclaiming to him:
- Moses! Moses!
Moses replied:
- Here I am.
- And a voice said to him: I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob. Do not come here, but first remove your shoes from your feet, for the place on which you stand is holy ground.
Moses hastily took off his shoes and covered his face, because he was afraid to look at God.
And God called to him from the flame of the bush:
“I know about the suffering of my people in Egypt; their cry of sorrow and request for help reached me. I say to you: go back to Egypt to Pharaoh, go there and lead my people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt.
Actors and main roles
The series featured many famous and, most importantly, talented actors.
- The role of the main character, Antonina Ivanshina, went to the Russian theater and film actress Klavdiya Korshunova. The girl has almost thirty works in films and more than ten in theatrical productions.
- Artillery officer Valentin, the lover of the main character, was played by Daniil Strakhov. The Russian actor gained fame after filming the TV series “Poor Nastya.”
- Artem Bystrov masterfully took on the role of truck driver Fedor. A man appears in Antonina’s life when she needs the support of a loved one more than ever.
- Honored Artist of the Russian Federation Alexei Kravchenko got the role of front-line soldier Nikolai Troshin, who himself is raising two children.
- Russian actress Elizaveta Arzamasova, who became popular for her role as Galina Sergeevna from the series “Daddy's Daughters,” played Lera, a girl with a sophisticated nature.
Also taking part in the filming of the film were: Valentina Mazunina - Nyurka, Helga Filippova - Lyuba, Arina Shinkina - Zinka, Oleg Vasilkov - Klim.
Skydiving and the ground in the porthole
“The Burning Bush” is not a kaleidoscope of plots and different characters. In essence, this is a mono-narration, with Antonina almost always at the center of events. This means that Klavdiya Korshunova practically lived on the set. The actress participated in 58 of 60 filming shifts. 58 working days excluding travel from one film set to another. Preparing to work in the series, the actress went to a military camp in the Moscow region to get the necessary experience, where, under the guidance of the film’s consultant, together with the school cadets, she experienced army life.
“I really didn’t want the viewer to see on the screen a prosperous Moscow young lady dressed in a military uniform and completely unaware of what she was talking about,” admits Korshunova. “So I tried to prepare as much as possible for work. In Kolomna, I underwent special training: military consultant Vladimir Gennadievich taught me to dig trenches, shoot, march in formation, understand weapons and maps. This was incredibly helpful! I even jumped with a parachute almost by accident. This was not necessary, but they suggested to me: “This is so cool, try it!” In tandem, safe! And I jumped.
But Artem Bystrov was taken aback when he saw that the ground was disappearing from under his feet.
“The most difficult thing was driving a truck from World War II,” admits Artem Bystrov. — You ride in the famous semi-truck (GAZ-AA truck. - Author) and see the ground under your feet (there is no floor as such in the cabin. - Author)! It is really difficult to drive one, even if you are familiar with the structure of the car.
This is not the first time for Alexei Kravchenko (right) to act in war films.
The series was set in 1945-1947, so the film crew had a hard time staging the street scenes.
“In Russia, practically nothing has survived untouched; after all, 70 years have passed since the war,” explains the director. - But in Riga we found a beautiful nature. The railway station for us was the former Spilve airport - it is now closed, but you can film there; it has not been renovated since then. And these are not ruins. The problem is different: we have scenes near the train, on the platform and inside the station. So we filmed the platform at the station in Brest. And then the two objects were combined into one: they installed a 30-meter chromakey at the Brest station (a green canvas, in place of which you can complete the drawing of any nature. - Author) and then Spilve’s exterior was “imprinted” there. It was necessary to transport the Riga actors who ran through the frame in Spilva to Brest in order to later put them in the same places during filming.
Actually, there is not so much war in the series. The viewer will see fragments of the Great Patriotic War through flashbacks - fragmentary flashes of the main character’s memories. However, there will be several battle scenes. In particular, tank battle.
Lisa Arzamasova played the girl Lara, who was sheltered by the main character.
Ratings
For many, the plot of the series came as a surprise. Viewers are accustomed to seeing large-scale battles, a lot of equipment and special effects in war films, but in Dmitry Tyurin’s film everything is the opposite. Here the director focuses on the psychological state of the heroine Antonina and her attempts to adapt to peaceful life.
Despite the tragic ending, the series received thousands of positive reviews. Viewers noted how authentic the film was made, and therefore became very difficult to watch. Many were sincerely worried about the fate of the main character and wanted her to find happiness, but, alas, this did not happen.
After the release of the series on TV screens, in just two months the rating on the KinoPoisk Internet service reached 7.4 out of 10.

Forty years of wandering
At the command of God, Moses returned to Egypt and, after many ordeals, led the Israeli people out of Egypt. 600 thousand Israelites left Egypt with Moses, but since Moses did not know where to go, three months later they again came to Mount Sinai, where Moses saw the burning bush. The Israelites camped at Mount Sinai for about a year, and Moses was at the top of the mountain all this time. It was at this time that he wrote his famous Pentateuch. And it was there on the top of the mountain that God again appeared to Moses and handed him the tablets with the Ten Commandments, which he brought to the people.
For a long time Moses led the Jews through the desert. Years of wandering caused numerous disturbances, murmurs and uprisings of the people, for which the Lord punished and condemned them to a 40-year wandering.
And only forty years later the Israelis came to the land of Canaan, where Lebanon, Syria, Palestine and Israel are located today. They settled on the land of what is now Palestine and Israel, but not all of them, many scattered around the world.
Why is it dangerous?
You should not smell, much less touch, ash bushes found in nature.
The burning bush is very insidious. The plant leaves a burn, but a person does not feel it immediately, but after 8–12 hours, when blisters filled with liquid appear. Over time and without proper care, they rupture and a long-healing wound opens. If you treat the wound correctly, it will heal over time, leaving a dark spot as a “memento” that gradually disappears by next summer. As already mentioned, the burning bush is a flowering plant that produces a pungent and unpleasant odor. Inhaling it may cause a headache that goes away after a few hours. Garden forms of ash are less dangerous than wild ones, but when processing it, especially on hot summer days, you must wear gloves, long sleeves and trousers covering your legs to avoid accidental burns. This plant should not be planted along paths or in areas where children may be. It should be remembered that the seeds of the plant are also unsafe, so gloves should be used when collecting them in the fall.
Meaning of the icon
For believers, the icon of the Mother of God “The Burning Bush” is very important, the meaning of which is contained in the iconography of the face of the Most Holy One. The image of the Holy One comes in various variations of Her image, but the favorite remains the one where there are many symbols, which together create the image of the Mother of God the Protector, who protects all humanity.
The central image of the shrine is the Virgin Mary herself, who holds the Son of God in her left hand, and clasps the ladder with her right hand, which symbolizes the descent of Jesus Christ to the sinful earth. Near the stairs there is a mountain, which on the contrary means ascension. The diamonds behind the main image are concave inward, and their edges form an eight-pointed star. One of them, green (dark blue), which is closer to the Mother of God symbolizes the fire experienced, and the second, behind, larger, indicates the flame itself in red. In addition, if you look closely at the icon, you can find the plant after which the icon of the Virgin Mary “Burning Bush” is named.
Also on the Burning Icon there are three spirits: the Lord with a crown and with Jesus Christ, a spirit with a gate and a spirit with a sword, which symbolically depicts protection and amulet. There are many angels around the Blessed Virgin, each of which has a unique meaning, for example: the angel of wisdom, teaching, offering, giving.
Where to hang an icon at home
Since the “Burning Bush” saves people from misfortune, there must be an icon in the house. There are no specific rules for where to hang a shrine, but traditionally it is customary to place it above the front door of a house or apartment.
It is at the entrance that the “Burning Bush” icon protects the entire room, and therefore the entire family that lives there, because the Mother of God is the guardian of family well-being.
