Akathist to the Mother of God “Joy of All Who Sorrow” - history
Patriarch Joachim the Venerable lived on earth a long time ago. His sister suffered from a protracted illness, literally suffered. Every day the girl prayed, but one day she heard God. The Holy Voice told her that the best action was to say her prayers in front of the icon “Joy to All Who Sorrow.”
The girl immediately did what the Lord said. A few days later a miracle came to the house - the disease disappeared and healing occurred. After this story, the icon of the Mother of God and the akathist were recognized by many believers and classified as the most miraculous images in the world.

Miracle healings
According to legend, the sister of the Patriarch of Moscow Joachim, Euphemia Petrova-Papin, received a miraculous healing through prayers from this icon. She was so seriously ill that she had not gotten out of bed for a long time. She fervently prayed to the Mother of God for healing, and then one day she heard the response of the Queen of Heaven, who told her to call a priest from the Church of the Transfiguration on Ordynka with the image of “Joy to All Who Sorrow.”
The icon actually stood in this temple on the left side, where women usually stand in the service. And it was already very ancient then. Unfortunately, historians have not been able to establish how and when this icon got into the temple, but most likely it was acquired for him in 1685, when the temple itself was rebuilt in stone.
The priest came to the sick woman, brought with him an ancient icon, served a prayer service for water, sprinkled blessed water on the sick woman, and she completely recovered. Perhaps miraculous healings through prayers from this icon had happened before, but thanks to the fact that this time a miracle happened to the sister of the Patriarch of Moscow, this story became widely known. Hundreds of sick and wretched people flocked to the icon. According to legend, many of them received healing and deliverance from troubles.
The ancient icon was strengthened and restored, special prayers were also written addressed to the Mother of God to be read specifically at this miraculous image. Numerous copies of the icon, made in the royal icon-painting workshop, also appeared.
