The prayer of agreement, which has become so popular among our parishioners lately, is based on the words of the Savior from the Gospel of Matthew: “Truly I also say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, whatever they ask, It will be done to them by My Father who is in heaven, for where two or three are gathered in My name, there I am in the midst of them” (Matthew 18:19-20).

According to the context of the Gospel narrative, we are talking, first of all, about prayer associated with a request for the forgiveness of sins, especially heavy ones, for everything that is saving and useful for eternal life. What we ask of God should help increase the glory of God on earth. The strength or success of such prayer depends on the spiritual unity in love of those praying and their living connection with Christ in obedience to the Church. Such cell prayer should not be based on a proud opposition of its importance to the Charter and the hierarchical principle of our Holy Church, church prayer (prayer services, memorial services, etc.) performed in churches. Neglect of this can lead to some kind of separation from the Church, even to sectarianism...

The popularity of this type of prayer has recently been greatly promoted by the now banned priest Golovin from the Kazan Metropolis. Usually a group of believers - parishioners familiar to each other (most often numbering 20 according to the number of kathismas in the Psalter) reads every day at the same time (say, at 10 pm) according to a kathisma (and/or akathist) determined for each of them. After the first and second “Glory” they read the names from the general list about health and after the third - about the repose of the dead. Most often, such praying people are united by a common problem, for example, anxiety about the future of their children or the serious illness of someone they know or love. Announcements about the beginning of this type of prayer were made in the parish by the priest or with his blessing. With his blessing, elders of such prayer groups were appointed and memorials were created. When such prayer was started without a pastoral blessing, this prayer work did not last long, some temptations, friction between the participants and problems arose...

In teaching his blessing on this type of corporate prayer, one of the good shepherds whom I personally know always said that prayer is not a magic spell: the number of prayers is not so important. Deviations from the time of its commission for serious reasons are also quite possible. More essential are sincerity and attention during prayer, understanding of its words. This is especially true for psalms written back in the Old Testament. At the same time, humility before God and readiness to accept any good will of God are also necessary. Of course, we must always emphasize that prayer does not exclude medical treatment. On the contrary, it is necessary to combine treatment with a doctor with prayer using all available means, being confident that spiritual achievements enhance the treatment...

As for joint prayers about earthly blessings, the purchase of apartments, cars, this is a good thing, but it does not exclude consultations with specialists, with those honest acquaintances who have experience in this area, who have walked this path... It is clear that each of our prayers should end with the words of the Lord's Prayer: “Thy will be done!” If God does not quickly give us what we ask for in prayer, even in prayer by agreement, then it means that we are either asking for the wrong thing, what is good for us, or God has prepared something better for us, which He will give to us as known to Him. time.
