Holy prayer is a sacred text with which believers ask God for support. You can find the right one in the prayer book, which is recommended for every Orthodox person to have at home. There are also explanations for the text and recommendations for reading. In case of loss or theft, special prayers are read to find the lost item.
How to pray correctly
A prayer for a lost item is addressed to a specific patron saint. Also, so that the loss is quickly found, you can turn to your Guardian Angel, Christ or the Virgin Mary. It is recommended to read a prayer in front of the corresponding icon. The ceremony can take place both in church and at home.
If you are familiar with the sacred texts, read the prayer in Church Slavonic. If difficulties arise, you are allowed to read the adapted version in modern Russian.
A prayer for the loss of an item is said in a calm mood. When turning to the Lord, one should not feel angry. Show humility. With a clear mind, ask for help, and then recite the sacred text one or more times.
The petition must be made according to the canons of Orthodoxy. At home, sit in front of the icon and turn to the saint. Do not set conditions, but mentally ask for a favorable outcome. The loss can be found in the most miraculous way. It is most effective to read prayers for retrieval on days dedicated to selected saints. The memorial days themselves can be found in the Orthodox calendar.
Before calling for help in finding an item, read Our Father . This sacred text is recited to ask for forgiveness, to be cleansed of sins and with a pure soul to appeal to God and the saints for intercession.
Think about every word of prayer. You can memorize the text or read it from the pages. Upon completion, bow and cross yourself. It is also necessary to be baptized whenever the Lord, Christ, the Holy Spirit or the names of saints are mentioned.
A text written by a clergyman or saint has greater power than a common prayer. Look for the correct prayer service that has the desired effect in church books. The book must bear the stamp: “Recommended for publication by the Council of the Russian Orthodox Church.” This is how the church confirms that the text corresponds to its dogmas.
Prayer brings a person closer to God. Once you get what you want, beware of complacency. Thank the saint to whom you turned, God, Christ and the Mother of God for a successful outcome. If possible, visit a church. God can help you through random people. Try to also help those in need.
In some cases, the loss may not be returned. This is how the Lord makes it clear that a thing will bring harm to a person, or that there is someone in the world who needs it more.
Christian believers are prohibited from using conspiracies and rituals to search for missing items. This is a sinful activity, because... many of them came from paganism and black magic teachings. They are prohibited by the Orthodox Church, so in such situations they use prayer.
What is prayer?
“There is nothing equal to prayer: it makes the impossible possible, the difficult - easy, the inconvenient - convenient” (St. John Chrysostom).
Prayer is a person’s appeal to God, His saints and Heavenly powers. A person’s spiritual life is impossible without prayer. An Orthodox person builds his entire life according to the Commandments of God, and becomes a faithful child of God. And just as a child turns to a parent for help during the day, so a believer expresses his requests, needs, and experiences in prayers.
In the Gospel, the Lord Jesus Christ instructs the apostles that prayer is important and necessary at any time.
“See, watch, pray, for you do not know when this time will come” (Mark 13:33); “Watch and pray, so that you do not fall into temptation: the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak” (Matt. 26:41).
The Holy Apostle Paul in his letters to the Thessalonians gives us instructions on prayer: “Rejoice always. Pray without ceasing. Give thanks in everything” (1 Thess. 5:16–18).
Prayer is available to every person at any time. You can pray at home or at work, and on Sunday - in Church at Divine Services. When there is no prayer book or suitable prayer, pray in your own words. You can also memorize the main/important prayers. The main thing is that the prayer is with faith and from the heart. Prayers save and help in miraculous and unexpected ways.
Which saint should I turn to for help?
Prayer for the loss of a beloved item helps believers in several aspects:
- the lost item will be found as soon as possible;
- a random person will not find the loss;
- the stolen goods will easily return to the owner.
Prayer for the return of lost things allows you to find protection in the face of God and the saints. Don’t forget to “meet” the find yourself. If the loss occurred on the street, advertise or write a statement to the police. If you cannot find the item at home, look around the entire room again. Act with complete trust in God and confidence that he is helping you.
An important assistant when searching for a missing item is the “Prayer Rule for Lost Items.” Archimandrite Tikhon mentions him in his book “Unholy Saints.” The text can be found in the 50th Psalm of King David, and it sounds like this:
Any prayer rule is a collection of small thematic prayers. They are allowed to be read outside the church - this is the daily ritual of the believer. The prayer rule is read after waking up, before going to bed or eating, during the day. Recommended reading with your family.
The text “Creed” is included in the list of morning prayers that believers should read before starting the day. There are no appeals or petitions to God or saints. At its core, it is a summary of Christian dogmas. The holy text is read in order to strengthen one’s faith in the omnipotence of the Lord. When something is lost, this prayer is read along with the previous prayer:
Through these prayers there is an appeal simultaneously to the Lord and all the saints. The texts are powerful and, unlike the following prayers, can be read without icons. They are spoken before the image of the Virgin Mary or Jesus Christ. The prayer service is read three times a day, once, or three repetitions together.
Nicholas the Wonderworker
If you don’t know what prayer to read for the speedy return of a missing item, contact St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. One of the famous Christian saints will help solve the problem. The prayer for finding a lost thing, addressed to the Pleasant, sounds like this:
The saint's memorial days are May 22, August 11 and December 19. On these dates, prayer requests will be especially strong.
John the Warrior
Saints are the link between a praying person and God. They patronize those in trouble and pray with them for help. Believers often turn to the holy martyr John the Warrior. He is asked for support and intercession in different situations:
- find the missing item;
- return what was stolen;
- protect yourself and loved ones from offenders;
- find thieves;
- to restore justice.
If what was lost was earned honestly, John will definitely help those who ask.
In the ancient “Tale of the Saints” there is a prayer for the loss of a necessary thing, addressed to the martyr. They read it if the servants ran away. A modern believer can address John the Warrior like this:
Priests recommend reading this prayer for finding a lost item at the first opportunity. It helps believers quickly find a lost item at home or outside.
Another prayer to John the Warrior will help return what was taken by dishonest means:
Martyr's Day of Remembrance - August 12.
Spiridon Trimifuntsky
If money or valuables are lost, a prayer for help to Spyridon of Trimifuntsky will be appropriate - he helps resolve financial problems.
The saint was a contemporary of Nicholas the Ugodnik, and performed many miracles. To this day, people who turn to Spiridon get rid of their problems in an unexpected way:
Texts of strong Orthodox prayers for finding a lost thing
Prayers for the return of lost things are read in front of the image of the saint in a temple or at home. A quick effect is achieved if the day of prayer coincides with the day of veneration of the saint.
John the Warrior
O Great Martyr John, fighter of the Orthodox, persecutor of enemies and defender of the offended! Hear us praying to You in our troubles and sorrows, for You have received from God the grace to comfort the sorrowing, help the weak, save the rebellious from vain courage and pray for all those suffering in evil. Let us also be strong in the face of all our enemies, visible and invisible, so that with Your help and victory over us all who show malice will be put to shame. We ask our Lord to grant to you, our sinful and unworthy servants (state your names), the undeserved blessings that He bestows upon those who love Him in the Trinity, so that you may receive them from Him always, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
Psalm 50
God, have mercy on me according to the greatness of Your mercy and according to the abundance of Your mercy, cleanse my iniquity. Wash me from my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin, for I know my iniquity, and my sin lies before me. I myself have sinned and done evil before you, so that you may be justified in your words and that you may have victory according to the age of your judgment. For I am guilty of iniquity, and my mother gave birth to me in transgressions. For You loved the truth; You showed me Your ineffable and dark wisdom. You have given me rain of water, and I will be clean; You have washed me and I will be burned like snow. Give joy and gladness to my ears; my humble heart will rejoice. Turn Your face away from my sins and cleanse me from all my iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit in the morning. Do not turn me away from Your face and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Give me the joy of Your salvation and strengthen me with Your Holy Spirit. I will teach the wicked Your ways, and the wicked will turn to You. Deliver me from blood, O God, God of my salvation; my tongue will rejoice in Your righteousness. Lord, my mouth will be open, and my mouth will proclaim Your glory! If You wanted life, You would give it to Me; You would not satisfy Me with a burnt offering. The spirit is broken for God as a sacrifice, the heart is broken and humbled, but God is not humbled. Bless, O Lord, according to Your good pleasure, Sinai, so that you can build the walls of Jerusalem. Then you will be content with a life of righteousness that is uplifting and sufficient; then your calves will be sacrificed on the altar.
"Symbol of faith"
I believe in one God, the Father, Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, visible to all and invisible to all. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, born of the Father, begotten before all ages; Light from Light, true God from true God, uncreated, consubstantial with the Father, through whom all things were created. For our sake and for our salvation He came down from heaven, became incarnate through the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became incarnate. He, crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, suffered and was buried. And he rose again on the third day, according to the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and sat down at the right hand of the Father. And He will come again with glory to judge the living and the dead, and His Kingdom will have no end. And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Giver of Life, who proceeds from the Father, who is with the Father and the Son, worshiped and glorified, who spoke through the prophets. Towards one holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the remission of sins. I will celebrate the resurrection of the dead and the life of the age to come. Amen.
To return stolen property
Saint John Stratilates was sent by Julian, the wicked king, to kill Christians, help some to get rid of their property, and free others, convincing them to flee from the torment of the infidels, for which he suffered many tortures and imprisonment from his tormentor. Freed from prison after the death of the wicked king, you spent the rest of your life in great virtue until its very end, adorning yourself with chastity, prayer and fasting, distributing alms to the poor in abundance, visiting the weak and comforting the suffering. So, in all our sorrows and sorrows, we have you as our comforter, John the Warrior: we turn to you, we beg you, be the healer of our passions and the deliverer of our spiritual sorrows, for you have received from God the power to serve the salvation of all, O Saint John, nourisher of strangers, deliverer of captives, physician of the weak and helper of the orphans! Look upon us, who honor your holy memory, and intercede for us before the Lord, so that we become heirs of His Kingdom. Hear us and do not reject us, and hasten to intercede for us, dissolute John, who exposed thieves and robbers, and those who steal and steal in secret, who faithfully prayed to You and brought joy to people by returning their property. Injustice and resentment weigh heavily on every person. Every person mourns the loss of something they have stolen or lost. John, hear the mourners and help them find the stolen things, so that, having found them, they can glorify the Lord for His mercy forever and ever. Amen.
Nicholas the Wonderworker
O great Intercessor, Archbishop of God, Most Holy Nicholas, illuminating the sunlit world with miracles, and everyone who calls on you immediately hears them, and obeying you from time to time, saving and being saved and delivering from all troubles, thanks to the grace given to you by God through miracles and gifts!
Hear me, the unworthy one, who calls on You with faith and offers You prayers, for I can offer You an intercessor through the intercession of Christ.
O he who speaks of miracles, high priest! As one who has courage, quickly stand before the Almighty and stretch out your hands in prayer to Him for me, a sinner, and from Him grant me the grace of goodness, and take me under Your protection, and deliver me from all trouble and evil, protect me from the invasion of enemies visible and invisible, destroy all slander and malice, and turn away those who have been fighting against me all my life; And asking forgiveness for my transgressions, and enrolling me as a representative of Christ, and receiving the Kingdom of Heaven according to the multitude of this merciful love, to Whom belongs all glory, honor and praise, together with the Beginning Father and the Most Holy, Good and Life-giving Spirit, now and always, and forever and ever.
Spyridon of Trimifuntsky
O blessed Saint Spyridon, the great benefactor of Christ and the most glorious miracle worker! Standing in Heaven at the Throne of God with the faces of the Angels, look with merciful eyes at the people who are here and ask for Your powerful help. Pray for the goodness of God, a God who loves people, so that He will not judge us according to our iniquities, but will deal with us according to His mercy. Grant, we pray to You, through Christ our God, that we may live in peace and tranquility, enjoy the health of soul and body, the fertility of the earth, abundance and prosperity in everything, so that we do not turn into evil what is good and what is given to us from generous God, but for His glory and in honor of Your intercession. Deliver all those who come to God with faith, without hesitation, from all mental and physical suffering, from all lusts and sorrows of the devil. Be a comforter for the mourning, a physician for the afflicted, a helper in suffering, a protector of the naked, a protector of widows, a protector of the weak, a nourisher of children, a support for the elderly, a guide to strangers, a guide to swimmers, and grant that all who seek Your help will find everything useful for their salvation. Thanks to your prayers and their observance, we can find eternal peace and together with you glorify God in the Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.
If an item is lost in the house
Necessary things can disappear in the house at the most inopportune moment. They say that this is how evil spirits try to ruin a person’s life.
Praying to find something missing at home helps to clear the mind and quickly find the missing item. And in the case when evil forces are involved, protect the house.
Whatever prayer you choose, after reading it you need to relax and try to remember where you last saw the lost thing. They say that prayer removes evil thoughts and calms the spirit. If the loss is not found, let go of the situation and forget about it - the right thing will come to hand at an unexpected moment.
Prayer for losing an item within the house:
This prayer service, like many listed, is addressed to John the Warrior, the famous patron saint of those in trouble. They pray to him for the return of the debt.
If you often lose things or money, read a prayer to protect yourself and your home. For example, a prayer-amulet for housing and household members protects the house and the people living in it from the evil eye and damage:
How to find something lost outside the home?
You can find something lost outside your home using:
- ritual with candles;
- prayers and prophetic dreams.
Ritual with candles
A ritual algorithm that will help you find something missing on the street:
- Buy 12 candles from the church.
- At home, light them and, sitting in front of the fire, read your favorite prayer (you can “Our Father”) 7 times.
- Imagine the lost item in detail and say:
Whoever he finds, let him return to me; a golden ray shines, illuminating the way home.
Leave the candles to burn out until the end.
In a similar way, you can try to return lost documents at work.
Prayer for a prophetic dream
An easy way to return something lost is the prophetic dream ritual.
To call it, you need:
- Before going to bed, pray and imagine in detail what you have lost.
- Whisper into a white handkerchief:
What is forgotten will be remembered, what is gone will return.
Put it under your pillow and go to bed. In a dream there will be an indication of where to look for the thing.
If the item is stolen
It is important not to wish the thief harm, but to concentrate on finding the stolen item. Do not judge a person and do not ask God for retribution. During prayer, the individual should be calm - no angry thoughts or curses. Events like theft reveal how strong your faith is.
Theodore Tyrone
If you are sure that the item was stolen, read the petition to the Great Martyr Theodore Tiron.
People turn to him in cases where something important for the family has been lost:
Saint Tyrone helps those who have strong faith in the omnipotence of the Lord. The sacred text is read three times a day, in front of the icon.
Anthony of Padua
If there is a premonition that an item has been stolen, then they turn to Saint Anthony.
The Italian monk was canonized as a saint a year after his death - during his lifetime he gained fame as a miracle worker and patron of all the offended. Prayer for lost items to Anthony:
“Saint Anthony, preacher of inexhaustible grace, God has honored you with a special gift of helping people regain what they have lost. Come to my aid now and through your intercession help me find what I am looking for. Also ask for me a living faith, perfect submission to the influence of grace, aversion from worldly vanity and an unquenchable thirst for the inexpressible joys of a blissful eternity. Amen".

Conspiracies to find things on the street
Often people lose things outside the home. Perhaps the person left something valuable somewhere and accidentally dropped it. In this case, it is more difficult to find the item, since it could be anywhere. It’s even worse when someone managed to take the loss and take it home. It will be difficult to find her unless you turn to rituals.
“Prophetic sorcerer, come out and help me find what’s missing. As the sun sets over the horizon, so does loss find me. The sorcerer always helps me, and the sun shines brightly during the day. Amen".
After this, you need to be patient - usually after a few days there is a chance to find the loss. You can come across a thing right on the street. If someone took it, the person will feel the desire to return the item.
