A selection of prayers for oncology - for a quick recovery of loved ones from cancer

According to the Christian worldview, man is a three-part being: spirit, soul and body. The physical shell, designed by God as a perfect mechanism, often suffers from the consequences of the Fall. They manifest themselves in the form of diseases. Modern medicine cannot yet cope with oncology, such a diagnosis sounds like a death sentence. Many turn to God in prayer as a last resort. And it happens that even in hopeless cases, the terrible illness recedes.

Who needs to pray for cancer?

The course of cancer is unpredictable - this is its danger. Today the patient is in a state of stable remission, but tomorrow everything can change. Many experts note a direct dependence of the patient’s physical condition on the spiritual mood. A person who does not give up and does not give up has a greater chance of surviving. This is why people often turn to faith when they have cancer.

There are a number of saints to whom you should pray:

  • Saint Luke of Crimea (Voino-Yasenetsky);
  • Saint Longinus the Centurion;
  • Great Martyr Healer Panteleimon;
  • Saint Athanasius of Athos;
  • The Mother of God is near the image of “The All-Tsarina”.

It is better to say prayers that are compiled by the Holy Orthodox Church.

Which saints should I turn to to get rid of toothache?

When a tooth hurts, it is customary to turn to saints, healers and martyrs known in Orthodoxy for help. Those who deliver people from painful suffering, and those who steadfastly endured the trials of pain in worldly life, remained unshakable in their faith, which gives Christians inner strength and spiritual fortitude.

To get rid of exhausting pain and endure physical suffering, believers read prayers to the Lord God, the Mother of God and the saints:

  • Martyr Antipas of Pergamon;
  • Saint Jonah;
  • Mother Matrona of Moscow;
  • Panteleimon the Healer.

Heavenly patrons hear prayers coming from the hearts of honest, righteous Christians, and help the suffering servants of God in satisfying their ailments. The Mother of God is the main intercessor of humanity before the Lord, assisting in resolving the most difficult, painful situations. The holy saints stand up for the sick before God, bestowing their patronage and protection.

Strong prayer to the Mother of God for recovery from cancer

All-merciful, venerable Mother of God, Pantanassa, All-Queen! I am not worthy, but come under my roof! But as a merciful and gracious Mother of God, say the word, may my soul be healed and my weak body strengthened. You have an invincible power, and all your words will not fail, O All-Tsaritsa! Beg for me! You begged for me. May I glorify Your glorious name always, now and forever. Amen.

But no one can prohibit you from personally turning to the Savior after the prayer service, sharing your experiences and doubts. There is nothing shameful in this - and Christ had ordinary human experiences. On the eve of his suffering, He also experienced fear.

These are not all saints to whom you can pray - any saint of God will help. Choose according to your desire the one to whom your soul lies. The Church does not impose any restrictions. But it’s still worth starting with an appeal to the Lord and the Mother of God.

Prayers to Antipas of Pergamon

If a toothache begins to torment, then it is customary to read a prayer to the Hieromartyr Antipas, Bishop of Pergamon. It was Saint Antipas who was given the gift during his lifetime to heal this illness in all who turned to him. He lived in the 1st century AD and is believed to have been a disciple of John the Baptist. He was one of the first to die with the beginning of the persecution of the followers of Christ. But he retained the ability to help with illnesses, especially toothache, even after death, accepting the prayers of Orthodox Christians.

Oh, glorious Hieromartyr Antipo and quick helper to Christians in illness! I believe with all my soul and thoughts that the Lord has given you the gift of healing the sick, healing the sick, and strengthening the weak. For this reason, for your sake, as a gracious doctor of illnesses, I, the weak, come running and, kissing your venerable image with reverence, I pray: through your intercession from the King of Heaven, ask me, the sick one, to be healed I’m sorry for the dental disease that’s depressing me, even though I’m not worthy of you, most gracious father and my ever-present intercessor, but you, being an imitator of God’s love for mankind, made me worthy of your intercession through my conversion from evil deeds to a good life, heal the abundantly given grace these ulcers and scabs of my soul and body, grant me health and salvation and in Good haste to all, yes, having lived such a quiet and silent life in all piety and purity, I will be deemed worthy with all the saints to glorify the all-holy Name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Prayer to St. Luke of Crimea for cancer

Oh, all-blessed confessor, our holy saint Luke, great saint of Christ. With tenderness, we bow the knee of our hearts, and falling to the race of your honest and multi-healing relics, like the children of our father, we pray to you with all diligence: hear us sinners and bring our prayer to the merciful and humane God, to whom you now stand in the joy of the saints and with the faces of an angel. We believe that you love us with the same love that you loved all your neighbors while you were on earth. Ask Christ our God to confirm His children in the spirit of right faith and piety: to the shepherds to give holy zeal and care for the salvation of the people entrusted to them: to observe the right of believers, to strengthen the weak and infirm in the faith, to instruct the ignorant, to reprove the contrary. Give us all a gift that is useful to everyone, and everything that is useful for temporary life and eternal salvation. Strengthening our cities, fruitful lands, deliverance from famine and destruction. Comfort for those who mourn, healing for those who are ill, return to the path of truth for those who have lost their way, blessing from a parent, education and teaching for a child in the Passion of the Lord, help and intercession for the orphaned and needy. Grant us all your archpastoral blessing, so that if we have such a prayerful intercession, we will get rid of the wiles of the evil one and avoid all enmity and disorder, heresies and schisms. Guide us on the path leading to the villages of the righteous and pray to the omnipotent God for us, that in eternal life we may be worthy with you to continually glorify the Consubstantial and Indivisible Trinity, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. To Him belongs all glory, honor and power forever and ever. Amen.

Prayer during surgery - how to ask correctly

The Orthodox Church says that believers should prepare in advance for upcoming surgical procedures:

  • come to the temple to the priest and confess;
  • take communion without fail;
  • Take a prayer book and an icon of any saint with you to the hospital, and it is important not to hide the icon in a cabinet or under a pillow, but rather place it at the head of the head or on the windowsill.

Before going into anesthesia during an operation, you need to constantly say to yourself: “Lord have mercy, Lord have mercy...”.

Prayer to Matrona of Moscow for oncology

O blessed Mother Matrono, with your soul standing in heaven before the Throne of God, with your body resting on earth, and exuding various miracles by the grace given from above. Look now with your merciful eye on us, sinners, in sorrows, illnesses and sinful temptations, our waiting days, comfort us, desperate ones, heal our fierce ailments, from God we are allowed by our sins, deliver us from many troubles and circumstances, pray to our Lord Jesus Christ forgive us all our sins, iniquities and falls, in whose image we have sinned from our youth even to this day and hour, and through your prayers having received grace and great mercy, we glorify in the Trinity the One God, the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and ever. Amen.

The power of Orthodox prayers

Toothache occurs suddenly and quickly exhausts a person. The illness can strike at night, when there is no medicine at hand, and also in a place where it is not possible to quickly get medical help. Even if the patient is in an urban area, he may need to wait until the day and hour of his appointment with the dentist.

As in all life situations, Orthodox Christians, in case of sudden pain, turn to the Lord for help. You can pray for relief from suffering at any time and anywhere. Prayers addressed to God, the Mother of God and the saints help to pacify the pain and reduce its intensity. Prayer words give the patient strength and patience, give fortitude and physical endurance.

There is nothing that is not subject to the will of God. Heavenly intercessors are ready to lend a helping hand to true believers and honest righteous people who turn to them with prayer and request. A painful tooth subsides after sincere prayer, the sensations become less painful and debilitating.

Do prayers help with cancer?

Even cancer is not a death sentence if a person has faith. It happens that illnesses are sent so that a Christian can take a closer look at his spiritual world. Indeed, there are documented cases where turning to faith alleviated the condition of patients.

Internal positive changes that occur under the influence of religious feelings have a good effect on the general condition. The Holy Fathers recommend resorting to all available sacraments of Orthodoxy as often as possible:

  • Confession - cleanses the soul of sins; it is required on a regular basis.
  • Unction is a general church service once a year during Lent. It is also used privately in cases of serious illness, usually at home. In this sacrament forgotten sins are forgiven.
  • Communion is the main Christian sacrament, in which grace is given and the believer unites with God. Take as often as you like, by agreement with your confessor.

You can find evidence on the Internet that after prayers the tumor stops growing. She seems to freeze. There are patients who, according to doctors’ predictions, should have developed metastases long ago. But God's grace and faith prolong the lives of such people.

Holy springs, which are located on the territory of many Russian monasteries, have a healing effect. Perhaps this is a beneficial effect of the unique chemical composition of water.

The exact opposite effect can be caused by turning to “healers” or “magicians”. They are indeed capable of generating certain forces. But their source is an evil spirit, Satan, who wishes people only one thing - death. Luring with false promises, demons cause rapid tumor growth (its “malignization”).

Text of the prayer to the saint

In order for prayer to Saint Seraphim of Sarov to be effective, it is necessary to perform a certain ritual. It consists of praying for recovery from illness in the manner provided for by church canons. You need to be alone in the room. Strangers and even family members cannot be present at this moment. Prayer is a very personal conversation between a person and the Almighty, so you should try to be alone.

After this you need to wait until evening. You need to light a candle in the room - it should be the source of light. Holy water is collected in a small container. It will be needed at the end of the ritual. After this, you need to kneel in front of the icon and read the following words:

Each word of the prayer for health and healing from illness must be pronounced very accurately and clearly. A quick and unclear reading of the prayer is not allowed. All proposals must be comprehended, otherwise there will be no result in prayer.

Now you need to walk around the room with a lit candle three times, reciting the text of the prayer again. At the end of the ritual, you need to drink 3 sips of holy water and cross yourself. Do not forget about gratitude to the saint - you need to speak from a pure heart. After this, you need to leave the candle to burn out and go to rest.

How to Pray for Healing

You can ask for the healing of a loved one every day. It is important to understand that it is necessary to lead a godly life. Reconcile with loved ones, conduct a general confession. Perhaps there were serious sins in the past. If you confess them, your conscience will calm down and your emotional state will become more stable.

In this case, you need to ask the priest about observing fasts. In general, seriously ill people do not have to undergo the feat of fasting - they should still be allowed to receive Communion. But it happens that believers themselves feel the need for this, despite their physical weakness. The church representative usually does not object and blesses. Still, the most important thing is for hope to live in the heart and prayer to be performed.

You can pray for healing to one saint or several. If your condition allows, it is good to go on a pilgrimage to a holy place, live in a monastery, and venerate the relics of saints. You need to drink holy water in the morning and eat prosphora. It is customary to do this on an empty stomach, after prayer, on days when there is no communion.

Use all available means that Orthodoxy offers:

About the author About the book

  • The Inexhaustible Psalter for Health - served for the sick for different periods (from a month to several years);
  • Notes on health at the Liturgy (proskomedia);
  • Church prayers to the saints.

It is advisable that the sick person himself be present in the church during the service. It happens that your health does not allow you to get out of bed. Then the believer prays at home at the same time when his loved ones are in church. Petitions to saints are usually read before the images. Their size and cost do not affect the result of prayer, only the faith of the person himself, his desire to change for the better. Every day you need to ask for help from your Guardian Angel.

Life of a clergyman

Seraphim of Sarov was born in the middle of the 18th century into a very wealthy family. His worldly name is Prokhor. Despite the fact that his parents had a lot of money, they were believing Christians. The father of the future clergyman decided to build the Kursk Cathedral when his son was born, but he did not have time to complete his plan due to sudden death. Then his widow decided to take all her husband’s affairs into her own hands. She continued work on the temple that her husband so wanted to build. She often took her son with her to introduce him to work from an early age.

When the cathedral was already high, little Prokhor climbed onto the upper extensions to look at the surroundings. He was so enraptured by what was happening outside, by the beauty of nature and the sky, that he did not notice how he stepped over the fence. The fall from a height did not cause any damage to the boy; he simply sank gently to the ground. He decided that it was the Almighty who saved him. After this incident, Prokhor wanted to receive spiritual education.

He constantly read books written by various religious figures. Prokhor constantly read the Gospel and prayed. At the age of 17, he decided to go to study at the Kiev Pechersk Cathedral. There he stayed for several years, learning the basics of theology. After completing his training, Prokhor was sent to serve in the Saransk hermitage. There he spent many years and changed his name.

At the end of his service in the monastery, Seraphim of Sarov decided to live as a hermit. He built a small house on the edge of the forest. There was practically nothing in his home - only a small trestle bed for sleeping and a table. Seraphim lived as ascetically as possible - he ate only once a day and only what he could find or grow on his own. On Wednesdays and Fridays he drank only water.

People living in neighboring villages often came to him for help. More often the requests were for healing the bones of the legs and spine. The hermit treated heart disease. Young children were brought to Seraphim when they suffered from serious illnesses. The priest did not refuse anyone, but he did not take money for his help either - he considered verbal gratitude to be the highest reward.

Near his house there was a spring, the water from which was considered sacred. Everyone who drank from there regained their lost health. All diseases receded when a person drank water. The saint had prayers with which he healed people. He turned to God with requests for the salvation of people, and the Lord helps them.

Prayer for Seraphim of Sarov’s legs not to hurt

O wonderful Father Seraphim, great Sarov wonderworker, quick and obedient helper to all who come running to you! During the days of your earthly life, no one left you weary and inconsolable, but everyone was blessed with the vision of your face and the benevolent voice of your words. Moreover, the gift of healing, the gift of insight, the gift of healing for weak souls has appeared abundantly in you. When God called you from earthly labors to heavenly rest, your love is not simple from us, and it is impossible to count your miracles, multiplying like the stars of heaven: for all over the end of our earth you appeared to the people of God and granted them healing. In the same way, we cry out to you: O most quiet and meek servant of God, daring man of prayer to Him, rejecting none of those who call upon you, offer up your powerful prayer for us to the Lord of Hosts, may He grant us all that is useful in this life and all that is useful for spiritual salvation, may He protect He will teach us from the falls of sin and true repentance, so that we can enter without stumbling into the eternal Heavenly Kingdom, where you now shine in unfathomable glory, and there sing with all the saints the Life-Giving Trinity until the end of the age. Amen.

Prayer after surgery

While in the hospital, you need to pray for your health both morning and evening, without missing a single day. Immediately after surgery, even the most minor one, you need to ask the Almighty for help in a speedy recovery:

“O Lord, our Creator, I ask for your help, grant complete recovery to God’s servant (name), wash her blood with your rays. Only with Your help will healing come to her. Touch her with miraculous power and bless all her roads to the long-awaited salvation, healing, recovery.

Give her body health, her soul - blessed lightness, her heart - Your divine balm. The pain will forever recede and strength will return to it, the wounds will all heal and Thy holy help will come. Your rays from the blue Heavens will reach her, give her strong protection, bless her for deliverance from her illnesses, and strengthen her faith. May the Lord hear these words of mine. Glory to You. Amen".

It must be remembered: the older a person is, the more difficult it is for him to endure any operation, and there is nothing left to do but pray to the Lord, asking for help, for the healing of the patient. Don’t be afraid to ask the Lord for help - he is the only one who always helps selflessly.

The history and miraculous healing of Longinus the Centurion

Memorial Day: October 29

Gaius Cassius Longinus served Pontius Pilate, ruler of Judea. He was one of the guards who guarded Jesus crucified on the cross, and then his tomb, which is why you can sometimes find the name Longinus the Gatekeeper. And Longinus received the name Sotnik because of his service - some soldiers were called centurions. It is known that Sotnik suffered from eye disease, cataracts. He was saved from the disease by the divine blood that splashed onto Longinus’s eyes from the wound of Christ when he pierced the crucified man in the rib with a spear. This is described in the Gospel as follows: “... he pierced the ribs of the crucified Lord Jesus Christ, and from the blood and water that flowed out he received healing for his sore eyes.”

3 days later, while Longinus was on duty at the Holy Sepulcher, another miracle happened, after seeing which, the guard finally believed in God. “The centurion and those who were with him guarding Jesus, seeing the earthquake and everything that happened, were greatly afraid and said: Truly this was the Son of God” (Matthew 27:54. Compare Mark 15:39 and Luke 23:47) . The soldiers became eyewitnesses of the Resurrection of Christ. This event shocked the guards so much that they became preachers of this miraculous phenomenon, and they were the first to tell Pilate about everything.

The ruler was furious when he learned about the resurrection; he wanted to buy the guards’ silence and conceal what had happened, but Longinus and other witnesses to the miracle refused and only began to testify more persistently. This behavior only infuriated Pilate, and he directed all his anger at the Centurion. All witnesses were executed by beheading. There was not even a burial; their heads were simply thrown outside the city walls. The blind woman found the heads of the martyrs and buried them, but as soon as she touched Longinus’s head, the disease subsided and the woman regained her sight.
