O all-validated, holy great martyr and wonderworker George!
Look upon us with your quick help, and beg God, the Lover of Mankind, not to judge us, sinners, according to our iniquities, but to deal with us according to His great mercy. Do not despise our prayer, but ask us from Christ our God a quiet and godly life, mental and physical health, fertility of the earth, and abundance in everything, and may we not turn the good things given to us by you from the All-Bountiful God into evil, but into the glory of the Holy One in His name and in glorification of your strong intercession, may He grant our country and all the God-loving army victory over the adversaries and strengthen us with unchangeable peace and blessing. May His angel protect us saints with a militia, so that we, upon our departure from this life, may be delivered from the wiles of the evil one and his difficult airy ordeals, and may present ourselves uncondemned to the Throne of the Lord of Glory. Hear us, passion-bearing George of Christ, and pray for us unceasingly to the Trinitarian Lord of all God, so that by His grace and love for mankind, with your help and intercession we may find mercy, with the angels and archangels and all the saints at the right hand of the Just Judge of the world, and He will be glorified with the Father and Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen
Listen to prayer:
After reading the life of St. George the Victorious, I immediately want to have such a defender. Many people know the story of the great martyr, especially those who are named after him: the holy saint died in 303, the day of remembrance is April 23. He was a Roman military leader, suffered torment for Christ, and converted many to the True Faith.
In Rus' he is known as a miracle worker and an ambulance. Since the reign of Dmitry Donskoy, he has been revered as the patron saint of Moscow. The shield with the figure of a horseman piercing a serpent with a spear was decorated with the coat of arms of the Russian Empire. In many countries, it is customary to pray to him when a person (or his property, livestock) is in danger.
Miracles performed by St. George the Victorious
Saint George (Gyurgi, Yuri, Egor) became famous during his lifetime, but even after death he performed many miracles. First of all, the military pray to him, since the 1000th army was under his command. With courage and nobility he conquered the wicked king Diocletian until he learned that he was a Christian. What kind of torment did the young saint of God endure after performing miracles:
- He appeared at a meeting of the king and princes, where, without fear, he denounced them for the false worship of gods, who are demons, and preached Christ.
- When, by order of the king, he was driven into prison with spears, the metal of the tips became soft, like tin.
- He endured wheeling, where knives, stakes, and knitting needles were used, but he, cut up, was healed by an Angel in front of his tormentors.
- Queen Alexandra, seeing this, believed in the True God of Christians (she died shortly before the execution of George).
- The martyr remained in the pit for three days, covered with quicklime, but remained safe and sound.
- They put red-hot iron boots with nails inside on the saint and forced him to run. The Lord healed the wounds overnight.
- They beat George half to death, gave him poisons, but nothing harmed him, he still remained alive.
- He raised a dead man to show the Power of God, thereby converting many to the faith of Christ.
- He healed the sick and crippled who made their way into his prison by bribing the guards.
- He resurrected the ox of one peasant who believed, announced this, and was immediately executed.
- He expelled demons from the temple of Apollo.
- He was beheaded by the sword and appeared before the Lord.
Note: The enlightener of Georgia Nina is considered a relative of the saint, and Demetrius of Thessaloniki is his brother, so they are sometimes mentioned together.
Life of the Great Martyr
To better understand the prayer to St. George the Victorious, it is necessary to familiarize yourself with his life. He was born on the territory of what is now Lebanon in the second half of the 2nd century. in a noble family. The young man dedicated his life to military service, so many military personnel turn to Saint George in prayer.
Compared to other warriors, the future saint was distinguished by his courage, physical endurance, and generosity. Thanks to this, he fell into the favor of Emperor Diocletian. But one important point separated them: George was a Christian, and the emperor revered pagan gods.
In those days, Christians were exterminated en masse, which could not leave George indifferent. He distributed his property to the poor and admitted his faith in God, which greatly angered the pagan ruler - he did not want to lose a talented warrior.
But neither his persuasion nor his torture shook the saint’s faith; he endured everything and was beheaded in 303 in Nicomedia; his memory is celebrated annually on May 6th. For such a death the saint was glorified as a great martyr.
On what occasions do they pray to St. George?
He is popularly presented as a strict, brave (impudent towards lawless people), but a fair helper in danger.
Yaroslav the Wise (baptized George) built a temple in his honor. The date of consecration, November 26, is usually celebrated everywhere - this is St. George’s Day, when agricultural work was completed. On this holiday (1769), Catherine II established an award for special military merit - the St. George Cross. Parts of the saint’s relics are kept on Mount Athos: in several monasteries (Xenophon, St. Gregory, St. Dionysius, Iveron, Zografsk), in many churches in Greece and Georgia. On the holy mountain there are several miraculous icons of the great martyr. They pray to him:
- In any danger, for he killed the serpent that devours people.
- Before the battle, since he was a warrior.
- In illness, because he healed the crippled.
- Helped a blind man to see, showing in a dream how he would receive healing.

How to properly address the Holy Great Martyr
Before you begin praying to the Victorious, you should visit an Orthodox church, confess, take communion, and ask the priest for a blessing for your prayer work. The priest may inquire about what prompted the parishioner to intensify prayer.
There is no need to hide your motives, no need to be shy. The cleric is a “conductor” between a person and Christ. It turns out that by telling a cleric about his problems, a person involuntarily confesses them to the Almighty.

It is not enough to just read the text, it is important to understand it, think about the sacred lines and feel that the prayer shield is protecting the petitioner from all adversity.
- On days of honoring the memory of the saint, it is recommended to order a prayer service in the church before his icon, read his life and pray from the heart. Requests to the great martyr will safely help you survive the pain of the loss of a loved one, show you the path to spiritual improvement, and help you cope with any difficulties.
- To order a prayer service (if possible, with the blessing of water), you must submit a note to the church shop and list the names of those for whom you need to pray. Names should be in the genitive case (they should answer the question “who?”). It must be drunk with prayer in the morning on an empty stomach.

Prayer to John the Warrior
Saint John is the patron saint of all warriors, incl. and a soldier, so you can also turn to him for your son who is serving in the army. In the temple you need to purchase an icon with his image and read prayers to him every day 2 times: once in the morning, and the second in the evening or before bed. Appeal to St. Nicholas the Wonderworker
The prayer to Nicholas the Wonderworker must be read while standing in front of his image, as well as next to a lit candle. While reading a prayer to this saint, it is quite important to clearly imagine your son, who is serving, at this moment happy and joyful. The completion of the prayer must necessarily be the sign of the cross, which must be made over oneself.
Why is it necessary to imagine your child while reading: this is a special psychological technique with which you can calm yourself down and, on a mental level, protect him from dangers with your parental energy. It can really help strengthen your prayer if you can concentrate well and focus only on this thought, brushing aside all others.
