Brief biography of Matrona of Moscow

Matrona was born into an ordinary peasant family at the end of the 19th century.
The Nikonov family did not live well, three children, Dmitry and Natalya rarely ate their fill, and then there was a third child - another hungry mouth. They wanted to give the newborn to the shelter of Prince Golitsyn in the neighboring village of Buchalki. They didn’t expect her at home, they didn’t even prepare a cradle. But the girl’s fate was changed by a mystical dream that Natalya had, and the baby remained in the family; she had to ask relatives in a neighboring village for a cradle. In a dream, Matrona’s mother saw a white blind bird of unearthly beauty with an amazingly beautiful voice. Matryona Nikonova, that was Matrona’s name from birth, was born blind, she didn’t even have eyeballs - a unique anomaly. The eye sockets were closed with tightly closed eyelids, like those of the white bird that the girl’s mother saw in her dream. The first years of her life were like hell. There was almost never enough food at home; there was even a shortage of bran bread. Matrona did not know what toys were; there was no money to buy them. My father simply did not have time to do anything with his own hands; he worked in the fields all the time.

The girl was often teased by neighboring children; the blind girl was lashed with nettles on her arms and face. The offenders knew that Matrona would not be able to respond, she would not even see who hit her. The girl was pushed into a dirty hole and watched with laughter as she groped her way out.

Neighbors began to notice amazing things when they came to the Nikonovs. They felt better next to the blind girl. Very soon a rumor began to circulate that the Baby was able to see the fate of every person, and relieved ailments with one touch. The fame of the blind Matronushka began to spread throughout the Tula province. They also came to the matron for spiritual advice in difficult moments of life.

With maturity, people from all over the world began to come to the matron, considering her to be a healer and a prophetess. This could not please her brothers, the Bolsheviks, under the conditions of the atheistic ideology in which they lived. Matrona was thrown out the door of her own house. Matrona decided in 1925 to go to Moscow. Thus began the wanderings among friends and loved ones.

Despite the terrible living conditions, Blessed Matrona did not stop helping people. Every day she received up to 40 people, healing them from illnesses and giving advice. Even during her lifetime, Matrona was revered by the clergy of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra, she regularly received communion and confessed.

Matrona spent the last years of her life in the city of Skhodnya. In May 1999, Matrona was canonized by the Moscow diocese. In October 2004, she was canonized.

By decision of Patriarch Alexy II, on March 8, 1998, the relics of the Blessed Matrona were moved to the Danilov Monastery, then to the Intercession Church. The Raka (silver tomb) became a place of pilgrimage for Orthodox people from all over the world for many years. Access to it is open daily from 7 am to 8 pm. Many people, in order to get to the temple in time, line up at 4-5 o'clock in the morning.

What can you pray to the Moscow Matrona for?

The Moscow Matrona is one of the most revered saints in the Russian Orthodox Church. Thousands of people come to see her every day at the Intercession Church in Moscow. In the same temple there is an icon of the Mother of God “Seeking the Lost,” which Matrona kept with her until her death.

It is believed that Matrona helped people both during her lifetime and continues to do so after leaving the sinful earth. Her prayer has a special power that helps not only Orthodox Christians, but also people of other religions. The miraculous power of Matrona is recognized by the Russian Orthodox Church.

Most often, Saint Matrona’s help is asked for:

  • money for good needs;
  • health of relatives;
  • pregnancy;
  • mutual love;
  • getting married;
  • finding a happy job;
  • the husband's return to the family.

Your prayer will definitely be heard if you sincerely pray for good things. You shouldn’t count on the Lord’s help if you turn to him for luxuries that you don’t really need. Be humble and remember that there are several billion people in the world with their own problems and difficulties. Do not expect help in unclean matters either. If you ask a saint for money that you are going to spend on sinful deeds, you should not count on help from above. Confess and receive communion regularly, be kind to others as an Orthodox person should.

How to pray correctly?

You need to pray with a lit church candle or lamp, alone with yourself. Before prayer, it is advisable to wash your face and put on clean clothes. All thoughts about everyday affairs should be left outside the threshold of the church or room in which prayer will take place. You need to try to read from the heart, slowly and without distractions. While reading, you can express reverence to the saint by bowing to the ground.

You can contact Matrona anywhere - in an apartment, a temple, in nature. If circumstances allow, you can visit the Intercession Monastery and venerate the relics of the saint - this is a good deed, and the church ministers welcome it. In such places, prayer reaches the saints and God faster and will be considered the most powerful. Those who do not have the opportunity to visit the monastery in person can write a letter with a request and send it to its postal address. The monks and servants of the monastery will place the letter at the relics. Matrona will definitely hear such a request and help.

Another effective option is prayer at the icon of the Matrona of Moscow, which is located in almost every Orthodox church. As the holy fathers report, such methods of offering prayer are not obligatory - all saints hear the appeal from anywhere on the planet.

What do you need to know about prayer?

As mentioned earlier, in order for your prayer to be heard, you must have good and sincere intentions. What else do you need to know about prayers? We list the general principles that every person should adhere to:

  • Faith . You should not treat prayer as a habit. If you do not put your soul into your prayer, then it is better not to pray at all.
  • Welcome . When asking for money or some kind of welfare from saints, be sure that after receiving it, you will not bring misfortune to other people. Your actions should benefit other people. Don't count on God to favor greed.
  • Help . Those who truly deserve help from above will definitely receive it. Don't forget to help other people yourself. If you are asking the question “what can I do?”, take a look around. Hundreds of people often need the help that you are able to provide, even if it is just a small thing.
  • Gratitude . Truly happy people are those who are happy about what they have, instead of being upset about what they don't have. Be grateful for what you have, and remember that many people dream of what you consider ordinary.
  • Prayer . Prayer is not a panacea for all problems and in itself is not able to change anything if you do not put your soul into it and do nothing to solve your problems. God helps those who deserve it.

Before prayer, you can address the saint as follows: “Blessed Matrona”, “Blessed Matrona of Moscow”, “Most Holy Matrona”, etc. Don't forget to pray for the Lord at the end. “Let not my will be done, but Yours, Lord” - end your prayer with these words.

Prayer for money to St. Nicholas the Wonderworker

It is advisable to read this prayer on Thursdays in churches. If this is not possible, then do as you are used to. You can read this prayer to yourself before starting work or before an important transaction.

Nicholas the Wonderworker

“Help me, Saint Nicholas, and don’t let me perish from a penniless life. I do not need sinful wealth, but send down from heaven wonderful contentment. Measure out money according to faith and need, and take away what drives you to destruction. Intercede with me in the Kingdom of Heaven and ask the Lord God for an increase in money. Thy will be done. Amen."

“I am turning to you, Nicholas the Wonderworker, and asking for help with financial allowances. Let the increase in money be for good, not decline. Feed my children, give them something to drink, and do not punish us with hunger. I am not asking for help for the sake of wealth, but I am begging for something that does not lead to destruction. Let it be so. Amen."

If you are chasing perishable wealth, wanting to attract a lot of money to the detriment of holy Orthodoxy, do not rely on the help of Divine powers. Everything should be in moderation.

Prayer didn't help?

Do you fervently pray to Blessed Matrona, but still have no wealth? Everything has its reasons in this world. Think about the following things:

  • Sins . If you turn to the saints, but at the same time continue to sin, do you think the Lord will hear your prayers? “The righteous hates lying words, but the wicked disgraces and dishonors himself.” — Proverbs. 13, 5.
  • Inaction
    . As mentioned earlier, to solve life's problems, you must first make efforts to solve them. Don't lose faith and don't sit still!
  • Patience
    . How badly do you want to receive what you pray for? What are you willing to sacrifice for this? Ask these questions to yourself. The Lord may test your patience and faith before giving you support.
  • Everything has its time
    . There is a wise phrase: “Be careful what you wish for.” We want to say that everything should be done in the time allotted to him. If you ask too early for something you are not yet ready for, you should not wait for help from above. Try to look at yourself from the outside, evaluate your sins and think again about the real importance of what you are asking.
  • Everything is the will of God . If you are convinced of the sincerity and goodwill of your intentions, but prayer does not help, perhaps God has his own plans in this regard. "God works in mysterious ways".

When to ask a saint for help?

Any activity has its heavenly patron. Sailors ask for blessings from some saints, scientists from others, builders from others. People pray to Nicholas the Wonderworker with requests of various types (it is generally accepted that he protects everyone who has not decided on a job, type of activity and profession). As for Matrona of Moscow, all those who have not yet found their calling in life also ask her for protection.

If you consider yourself to be one of these people, then it’s time to ask a saint for help. On a dark evening, stay in silence, light candles, enjoy every sound, every sensation. After this, place the icon, kneel and begin to read the text of the prayer; the prayer should be very bright and sincere, filled with good intentions and the best emotions.

IMPORTANT! Matrona will not help you if you want to win at a game of chance or “hit the big jackpot in the lottery.” The saints also do not help when you strive to quickly receive an inheritance after the death of another person, or want to obtain money illegally, violating the rights and interests of other persons. All the money and benefits that came into your life as a result of illegal actions will not bring happiness.
