About the author About the book

Defender of widows, orphans and the poor - Nicholas the Wonderworker

The image of Nicholas the Wonderworker is familiar to everyone - an elderly man with a round pleasant face, with a beard and mustache. He is dressed in church vestments because he was a priest during his lifetime. Prayer for help to his neighbors was a habitual thing for him, which he continued even after he settled in the heavenly abodes. The saint appeared to many people even after death, helping them escape from troubles.

There is a known case when he helped a robber escape from pursuit. The fact is that the bandit used to light a candle to the saint before going on business. But one day the wise old man appeared to him and said that until he gave up his work, he did not want to accept candles from him or hear his prayers. Thus the saint showed both his kindness (he nevertheless saved the man) and his wisdom (he admonished him to abandon his unrighteous occupation).

This example also shows great humility - after all, even the saint did not condemn the sinner, leaving this matter to the Lord. Therefore, the prayer of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker is especially pure and bright before the Creator. Most people cannot achieve such clear peace of mind and give up the desire to judge everyone around them. Therefore, it is customary to ask for help from those for whom prayer has become the mainstay of life.

The most powerful prayer to St. Nicholas the Wonderworker that changes fate

Laymen and believers know the power of turning to Saint Nicholas the Pleasant for help. He led a righteous life and always helped people. Jesus Christ appeared to him in a dream and endowed him with great power to perform miracles during his lifetime. Thanks to his integrity and kindness, devotion to the Savior, after his death, Nicholas the Wonderworker was chosen by the Almighty to be his servant. Now he is in heaven, next to God. He hears all appeals to him and asks the Almighty for the people, intercedes for sinners.

There is a very powerful prayer to St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, which can change a person’s destiny in 40 days. But simply pronouncing the words of the prayer text will not bring the desired result.

A number of conditions must be met:

  1. An Orthodox Christian must lead a correct life, keep the commandments of the Lord. You should not get carried away by gluttony and an idle lifestyle. It is necessary to refrain from foul language, drinking alcohol and smoking. Also, you should watch your words and actions, not offend other people, and treat everyone with respect.
  2. It is necessary to read the prayer rule daily. If possible, attend church services once a week.
  3. The prayer is long and difficult to remember. The order of words and phrases cannot be changed. You can read the text from a sheet of paper. It is advisable to rewrite the words yourself, by hand, without errors or corrections.
  4. Miracle prayer. You should read it for 40 days in a row. If on any day it was not possible to do this, or you simply forgot, you should start all over again.
  5. The appeal to St. Nicholas is pronounced three times each time. The first loudly, the second in a low voice. The third reading of the prayer is the most powerful. It repeats itself mentally, to itself. Each word is “thought out” clearly, with an understanding of its meaning and meaning.
  6. The miraculous prayer is said in front of the icon of St. Nicholas. To do this, his icon is placed facing the east and is not removed for 40 days or more until the ritual of reading the life-changing prayer is completed.
  7. When starting to read the prayer text, you should place a burning candle in front of the icon or next to it. The flame enhances the effect of words. You can light a lamp, but to do this you must obtain permission from the priest in the temple.

The text of the prayer “Chosen Wonderworker and Great Servant of Christ” can be listened to online in audio and video recordings via the Internet for free. You need to find the desired prayer on the Internet, bookmark it in your browser, and listen to it three times every day. To do this, you must follow all the rules and mentally repeat the words of the sacred text, pondering their meaning and believing in the help of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. Understanding the content is not difficult for those people who know modern Russian.

In what cases should we pray to St. Nicholas

In the Catholic tradition, it is believed that the Wonderworker Nicholas especially helps children. You can pray if the kids are sick, do not study well and do not obey their parents. The image of the saint is very similar to Santa Claus - because it was this saint who became his prototype.

The reason was the rescue of one poor family. She was in dire need of livelihood. At night, the saint secretly threw bags filled with coins out the window. This happened several times; one of the gifts ended up in a stocking that was drying by the stove.

The father of the family, hearing the ringing, ran out into the street and recognized the benefactor. This is how this case became known. This is how the custom of putting Christmas gifts in stockings arose. That is why they ask Nicholas the Wonderworker for help in financial matters - during his life he was never greedy, he gave away all his substantial fortune to the poor.

Finding a worthy groom is also important. This also needs to be prayed for. Nicholas the Wonderworker will help the girl find a husband worthy of sincere love. The meeting of two people sometimes occurs under surprising circumstances - in such cases you can be sure that help has come from above.

Let's summarize

  • Nikolai Ugodnik is a saint to whom you are not ashamed to pray for the most everyday things - asking for a new job, a promotion, getting rid of problems in the workplace. Regular prayers will even help you find a common language with your team and love your work.
  • The most powerful prayer of this kind is considered to be “Oh, All-Holy Nicholas.” It can be read simply until your wish comes true, or in the form of a ritual, repeating the prayer forty times in a row.
  • You can pray both in church and at home and even at work. It is advisable to do this alone, placing an icon of the Wonderworker in front of you, and if possible, then light a consecrated candle in front of the image.

Do you want to know more about the saint, whose memory is venerated by all Orthodox Christians on December 19? I offer a short film in which the priest will not only talk about the Wonderworker, but also show the area in which he lived and performed miracles:

The veneration of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in Rus' was so great that it was almost as great as the belief in the Holy Trinity and the Virgin Mary. It is not for nothing that the faces of Christ are always present in the home iconostasis, and St. Nicholas and the Kazan Mother of God. People ask him for help in literally any matter:

  • at work;
  • in caring for livestock;
  • when harvesting;
  • in beekeeping.

Over time, people's love only grew stronger. Of course, a person has many more professions, but the saint hears all prayers. It doesn't matter what a believer does. The main thing is to sincerely love God and believe in Him. Then Nikola the Wonderworker will not turn away.

Who and when can contact the saint?

baptized person, both Orthodox and Catholic, can contact Nicholas the Wonderworker

You can pray both in difficult times and when you see that your neighbor (relative, friend) is in trouble. And if what you asked for was given to you, do not forget to offer prayerful gratitude!

We pray to Nicholas the Wonderworker, asking him to address our words to God, since we ourselves (for the most part) are unworthy to address Him personally. Well, if you think that you live almost sinlessly, often attend church, keep fasts, you can turn directly to the Lord.

How to offer prayer correctly?

It is ideal to contact the patron in a place of prayer - a temple, having found his icon. True, you will have to pray for more than one day, and visiting the house of God every day is not convenient for everyone. Therefore, the church does not prohibit praying at home and even at work, taking a moment when you are alone in the room.

Prepare an icon of St. Nicholas. It would be correct to light a thin church candle in front of him before each prayer. There is no need to blow it out at the end - let it burn to the end.

Speak every word with feeling. There is no need to rattle off prayers like seventh-grader Vova’s rhymes at the blackboard.

Before the ritual, cleanse your soul of all negative things. If you feel bitterness, resentment, anger because of communication with someone at home or brought these emotions from work, first do something pleasant for yourself (take a bath, drink a latte, watch a light movie), and only after you have calmed down, proceed to communication with the saint.

Don't ask for something bad for your neighbor. Are you aiming for a promotion? You don't have to hope that you will get it by firing your superior. Also, you should not ask to win money in gambling (the church does not approve of it), to find a wallet (after all, someone will lose it before that), to receive a will (after all, in this case someone will die).

But you can ask for good “profits” in trading, excellent earnings. But, of course, unless you are selling something bad - obviously defective goods, expired products. It’s also better not to ask for success in the alcohol trade or in the field of casinos and other lotteries.

What prayers to read

The prayers are composed in a variety of ways - for any need, an akathist is read, this is a type of church verse that praises all the virtues of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, lists miracles, and at the end contains requests for help. You can supplement them with your own words, tell about your situation as if you were a loved one, without hiding anything. When turning to higher powers, there is only one inviolable rule - you cannot scold, insult and denigrate other people, blame them for your mistakes, or wish them harm.

You can order a prayer service for St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in the church and invite your loved ones to it, who also need help. The prayer can also be read short. For example, when you pass by a temple, cross yourself and turn to God: “Lord, have mercy!” And then to the saint: “St. Father Nicholas, pray to God for us!”

The physical and spiritual state of modern people is much different from what it was 100 years ago. The benefits of civilization are not always useful - people are overweight, overwhelmed by stress, rarely leave the house, and are concerned only with pressing problems. Therefore, it is very useful to put aside all matters and communicate with the Lord and the saints. It calms the soul and helps find solutions to many issues. God help you!

How to read a prayer to St. Nicholas the Wonderworker

People who are far from Christianity do not really believe that prayer helps, but if they find themselves in a difficult situation, they believe that it is enough to read the text of the prayer, and everything will be as “at the behest of the pike, according to my desire.” But that doesn't happen. Prayer can provide very strong protection only if it comes from a pure heart and with sincere faith, and the person pronouncing it is not tainted by bad thoughts and sinful deeds. When offering a prayer to Nicholas the Wonderworker, you need to strive not only to fulfill your request, but also to change yourself - to cleanse your soul, strengthen it in faith, then your life will change radically.

Prayer requires adherence to a certain order, preferably daily reading

Buy an icon of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, a lamp or candles in a church shop so that they are already consecrated. They usually pray in the morning and before going to bed, alone, so that there is no distraction. During prayer, a lamp or candle should burn in front of the icon. Do not forget that prayer should contain not only requests, but also glorification of the saint and gratitude to him.

Three prayers to Nicholas the Wonderworker for help with money, work and health

Prayer to St. Nicholas the Wonderworker - first

O our good shepherd and God-wise mentor, Saint Nicholas of Christ! Hear us sinners, praying to you and calling for your speedy intercession for help; see us weak, caught from everywhere, deprived of every good and darkened in mind from cowardice; Try, O servant of God, not to leave us in the captivity of sin, so that we may not joyfully become our enemies and not die in our evil deeds.

Pray for us, unworthy, to our Creator and Master, to whom you stand with disembodied faces: make our God merciful to us in this life and in the future, so that He will not reward us according to our deeds and the impurity of our hearts, but according to His goodness He will reward us .

We trust in your intercession, we boast of your intercession, we call on your intercession for help, and falling to your most holy image, we ask for help: deliver us, servant of Christ, from the evils that come upon us, and tame the waves of passions and troubles that rise up against us, and for the sake of Your holy prayers will not overwhelm us and we will not wallow in the abyss of sin and in the mud of our passions. Pray to Saint Nicholas of Christ, Christ our God, that he may grant us a peaceful life and remission of sins, salvation and great mercy for our souls, now and ever and unto ages of ages.

Prayer to Saint Nicholas - second

O great intercessor, the bishop of God, the Most Blessed Nicholas, who shone miracles under the sun, appearing as a quick hearer to those who call upon you, who always precede them and save them, and deliver them, and take them away from all sorts of troubles, from these God-given miracles and gifts of grace!

Hear me, unworthy, calling you with faith and bringing you prayer songs; I offer you an intercessor to plead with Christ.

Oh, renowned for miracles, saint of heights! as if you have the boldness, soon stand before the Lady, and reverently stretch out your hands in prayer to Him for me, a sinner, and grant me the bounty of goodness from Him, and accept me into your intercession, and deliver me from all troubles and evils, from the invasion of enemies visible and invisible freeing, and destroying all those slander and malice, and reflecting those who fight me throughout my life; for my sins, ask for forgiveness, and present me to Christ as saved and be worthy to receive the Kingdom of Heaven for the abundance of that love for mankind, to Him belongs all glory, honor and worship, with His beginningless Father, and with the Most Holy and Good and Life-giving Spirit, now and ever and unto ages centuries.

Prayer to Saint Nicholas - third

Oh, all-good Father Nicholas, shepherd and teacher of all who flow by faith to your intercession, and who call on you with warm prayer, quickly strive and deliver the flock of Christ from the wolves that destroy it, that is, from the invasion of the evil Latins who are rising against us.

Protect and preserve our country, and every country existing in Orthodoxy, with your holy prayers from worldly rebellion, the sword, the invasion of foreigners, from internecine and bloody warfare.

And just as you had mercy on three men imprisoned, and you delivered them from the king’s wrath and the beating of the sword, so have mercy and delivered the Orthodox people of Great, Little and White Rus' from the destructive heresy of the Latin.

For through your intercession and help, and through His mercy and grace, may Christ God look with His merciful eye on people who exist in ignorance, even though they have not known their right hand, especially young people, by whom the Latin seductions are spoken to turn away from the Orthodox faith, may he enlighten the minds of His people, may they not be tempted and fall away from the faith of their fathers, may their conscience, lulled by vain wisdom and ignorance, awaken and turn their will to the preservation of the holy Orthodox faith, may they remember the faith and humility of our fathers, may their life be for the Orthodox faith who have laid down and accepted the warm prayers of His holy saints, who have shone in our land, keeping us from the delusion and heresy of the Latin, so that, having preserved us in holy Orthodoxy, He will grant us at His terrible Judgment to stand on the right hand with all the saints. Amen.

How to pray to a saint correctly?

Iconography: Nicholas the Wonderworker (half-length) Dates: XIX century. Second half of the 19th century. Origin: Kolekino village, Vyshkovsky village, Likhoslavl district. Material: Wood, oil. Dimensions of the icon: height 78 cm, width 48 cm. Half-length image of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker blessing him with the Gospel in his hand. On either side of him are Jesus Christ with the Gospel and the Mother of God with an omophorion.

Prayer is an appeal to God. Even if you pray to a saint, you still turn first of all to God, because a saint can only perform miracles through the Lord.

Prayer is a dialogue. It is important not only to speak out, but also to be heard.

To do this, you need to tune in to prayer. Sometimes this is very difficult to achieve: bodily pain, laziness of the mind, ossified in the habit of negligence, and complete relaxation of the soul and body are distracting. We wear our vices like clothes and it’s hard to throw them off. You must try to find inner peace, listen to your heart and then it will begin to speak itself... Then all the words of the prayer that you will read from a page or from memory will be melted by the fire of the heart, and will sound sincere... and not pronounced automatically...

It is very useful to read the prayer itself to yourself even before turning to the saint, in order to try to understand the essence and interpret for yourself the Church Slavonic language, which out of habit may seem difficult to understand.

There are people who are disappointed, who have lost faith, who say: “It didn’t help me...” This means there was no God’s permission... Unfortunately, not everything in life turns out the way we want. You should not perceive the saint as a magic wand... Perhaps your case, as a separate sentence in the context of your entire life, cannot be considered taken out of the overall picture... In such a situation, we can only advise not to despair, not to think that the saint is ignoring you.

It is very important not to forget to thank St. Nicholas the Wonderworker: go to church, light a candle in front of the image, perhaps order a prayer service or akathist. According to the testimonies of many, those who at least once received help from St. Nicholas found support in his person for the rest of their lives.

Saint Nicholas of Christ has become the ladder to heaven along which we can approach the Lord. He is called “the fastest helper” because he hears the word of prayer addressed to him always and everywhere.

Interesting fact

He is deeply revered not only by the Orthodox Church, but also by the Catholic Church; moreover, history knows cases when the saint helped people who profess a non-Christian religion or who are not believers at all.

People invariably add the epithets “warm”, “beloved” to his name, and affectionately call him “father”. His image is filled with such all-encompassing mercy and kindness that there is enough of it for everyone. Just call - as the publican called the Lord, ask - as a child asks his mother. He will see the need in your heart and come.

Brief Life

Nicholas the Wonderworker with his life in 18 hallmarks.

As soon as you hear his name, warmth immediately spreads in your heart... Here he is, his presence is like an invisible source of light - invisible, but noticeable: it will warm you, protect you from the bad weather of everyday life, and help you.

The future ascetic was born in the city of Patara, in the region of Lycia, in the south of Asia Minor. His parents were pious and pious people; Nikolai himself also had a love for the Lord from an early age. A legend has been preserved about how, during the sacrament of baptism, which was prolonged for some reason, he stood in the font for three whole hours, thus giving glory to the Holy Trinity.

As soon as he grew up, his uncle, the Bishop of Patara, took the youth to the temple, where the young man began his service as a lower cleric - a reader. Later, the bishop elevated the pious youth to the rank of presbyter.

Having entered the priesthood, Nicholas the Wonderworker tightened his already ascetic life: he spent long hours in prayer and fasting, ate food only once a day - in the evenings, and never refused those who came to him for help.

Interesting fact

After the death of his parents, who were very wealthy townspeople, he distributed the inheritance to those in need.

The biography of the saint is full of episodes that characterize him as a sympathetic person and sensitive to the misfortune of others. Once, during a sea trip to Palestine, a storm broke out, which the Wonderworker pacified with his prayers, and brought back to life the sailor who had crashed on the deck.

Another time he helped a poor Christian arrange the fate of his daughters. The girls remained without a dowry, and despair almost pushed them onto the path of fornication. Saint Nicholas secretly threw three bundles of gold out the window for them, thereby preventing their moral decline and providing them with a dowry.

He lived in the city of Myra (a large metropolis in the Lycian land), when, guided by divine providence, he ascended to the chair of archbishop.

He continued to live modestly, surprising everyone with his fasting, simplicity and kindness.

During his lifetime, he became famous for many miracles: saving the inhabitants of the city from hunger, pacifying a rebellion with just one word and presence, saving a sinking ship, on which his disembodied spirit seemed to appear and, instead of a helmsman, led the ship into a quiet harbor, saving innocent people sentenced to death... .

Despite his meek disposition and kind heart, Saint Nicholas waged an irreconcilable struggle against paganism and idolatry. During the persecution of Christians under the emperor Diocletian, he even sat in prison, and during the spread of heresy, Arius was again taken into custody.

Here is how it was. At the First Ecumenical Council in Nicaea in 325, listening to another blasphemous speech of Arius, who rejected the consubstantiality of God the Father and God the Son, Saint Nicholas was overcome with such indignation that he could not stand it and hit the false teacher on the cheek. The Council Fathers found the archbishop's behavior inappropriate and deprived him of the attribute of his clergy: the omophorion. After which the Wonderworker was taken to prison.

However, soon the priests returned both his freedom and his dignity - some of them had a vision in which Jesus Christ himself and His Most Holy Mother acted as defenders of the daring priest.

The Lord judged Nicholas the Pleasant to have a long life, during which the pious bishop performed many miracles and good deeds.

Your gratitude can be expressed through more than just prayer. You can do a good deed by mentally dedicating it to St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. For example, give alms near the temple, transfer some money for treatment to a sick person, take part in a charity event.

Words of prayer:

“Nicholas the Pleasant! I address you as a teacher and shepherd with faith and respect, with love and admiration. I send you words of gratitude, I pray for a prosperous life. I say thank you very much, I hope in mercy and forgiveness. For sins, for thoughts, and for thoughts. Just as you have had mercy on all sinners, so have mercy on me. Protect from terrible trials and from vain death. Amen"

Saying a prayer of gratitude is mandatory. You cannot turn to the saints for help when you need it, and forget about it and continue to sin when you achieve the desired result. All eleven prayers listed in the article are very powerful and effective.

But prayer is not a miracle spell. You should be a grateful person and try to renounce sins and wicked thoughts. Only this will help you get closer to God and count on his help, and not on punishment.
