Life of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker

The hometown of St. Nicholas the Pleasant was the city of Patara in the province of Lycia (modern territory of Turkey). He was born in 270 into a family of pious parents. When his parents died, the saint of God distributed his entire inheritance to the poor and needy. At the request of the believers, Nicholas was made bishop of the city of Myra in the Lycian region. Saint Nicholas took part in the First Ecumenical Council of 325, held in the city of Nicaea (Turkey). In 345 his earthly life ended. Of course, when a child falls ill, the parents’ hearts cannot be calm; anxiety begins, which often, unfortunately, turns into fussiness. And prayer helps to leave this fussiness” (doctor-priest Alexy Grachev, 1959-1998).

After turning to the Creator, parents receive instruction on how to act correctly in a given situation, and how to treat it. If possible, the child should be given Holy Communion of the Body and Blood of Christ.

During illness, Orthodox Christians turn for help not only to the Merciful God and the Mother of God, but also to the saints.
