9 of the most powerful mother’s prayers for children to St. Nicholas the Wonderworker and how to read them

Prayer to Nicholas the Wonderworker for the health of the child

Many people turn to Saint Nicholas the Pleasant for help. Not only Christians, but also modern representatives of other religions. St. Nicholas is respected even by Protestants who do not venerate saints or icons at all. In any trouble and need, prayer ascends to him. Moreover, people turn to the saint when their own child, the most precious thing the parents have, is sick. Often, a fervent prayer to Nicholas the Wonderworker for the health of a child worked miracles.

Ancient Christian icon of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker

“Our memory of St. Nicholas is so vivid that we sometimes turn to him every day, asking him to help in our lives. And we receive an answer from him - our prayers come true. He shows us his presence in our lives, including through his miraculous and myrrh-streaming relics, preserved in the city of Bari, which are abundantly covered with fragrant myrrh” (Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus' Kirill).

What made St. Nicholas so glorified? Why do they turn to him for help in the most critical situations?

The power of a mother's prayer

The connection between a mother and her child is a kind of earthly projection of the relationship of the Mother of God with the Son. A mother’s love is as unconditional as Her love for the Divine Infant, and therefore a mother’s prayer is the most effective way to protect her child.

Useful materials

The lines of the Apostle Paul from the Holy Scriptures serve as confirmation. Of the three Christian virtues - faith, hope and love, it is the latter that he singles out as having enormous power. A mother's prayer is powerful because it is based on unconditional love for her children and grandchildren.

And we knew the love that God has for us and believed in it. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him. (First conciliar letter of John the Theologian).

Life of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker

The hometown of St. Nicholas the Pleasant was the city of Patara in the province of Lycia (modern territory of Turkey). He was born in 270 into a family of pious parents. From an early age he was raised in the faith of Christ. Upon reaching the appropriate age, he first served as a reader in the church. He was then ordained a priest. When his parents died, the saint of God distributed his entire inheritance to the poor and needy. At the request of the believers, Nicholas was made bishop of the city of Myra in the Lycian region. This is how its name Myralikian appeared.

Saint Nicholas took part in the First Ecumenical Council of 325, held in the city of Nicaea (Turkey). In 345 his earthly life ended. But even after his death, Nikolai Ugodnik helps believers who turn to him. That is why prayer to St. Nicholas the Wonderworker for the health of the child is so in demand.

Saint Luke of Crimea, on the saint’s feast day, December 19, 1953, explained the “phenomenon” of the Wonderworker as follows:

“There is one form of light, perhaps the most important for us - invisible light. The light that the human eye does not see, the light that has its origin from God. With this invisible light the bodies and faces and eyes of people who completely loved God and dedicated their entire lives to God shone and still shine. People who have set the goal of their lives to fulfill the commandments of Christ. The great Saint Nicholas was full of invisible light.

He was the rule of faith and the image of meekness, and an invisible light, like the rays of the sun, emanated from the heart, from his entire being. He was meek, for he fulfilled the commandments of Christ. In humility and meekness, he approached close to the Lord Jesus Christ Himself, whom he faithfully served throughout his life. And precisely because the invisible light has been emanating from the soul of the deceased Saint for fifteen hundred years, for this light did not perish with his death. It is precisely because we love it so much that we ourselves strive for this spiritual light, the invisible light.”

Heal with prayer

To effectively treat a patient, regardless of his age, you need to understand why people get sick in the first place. Man, created by God, has a three-part nature consisting of spirit, soul and body.

“We ourselves are spiritual beings, not just physical ones. We consist, in addition to the body, of soul and spirit - of a spirit close to the Spirit of God, a spirit that has its beginning from Him” (St. Luke of Crimea, 1877-1961).

After the fall of the first people, the integrity and unity of these “parts” of man were broken.

“Instead of following its natural disposition towards God, the human mind turned to the world; Instead of spiritualizing the body, he himself surrendered to the flow of animal and sensual life, submitting to the material” (Archimandrite Alypiy (Kastalsky-Borozdin).

Disease and death appeared in the world. Only through the Sacrament of Baptism is a person given grace and strength to restore the “balance” between spirit, soul and body.

A very strong prayer for my son and protection over him

“Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, prayers for the sake of Your Most Pure Mother, hear me, your sinful and unworthy servant (your name).

Lord, in the mercy of Your power, my child (son’s name), have mercy and save him for Your name’s sake. Lord, forgive him all the sins, voluntary and involuntary, that he committed before You. Lord, guide him on the true path of Your commandments and enlighten him and enlighten him with Your light of Christ, for the salvation of the soul and the healing of the body. Lord, bless him in the house, around the house, in the field, at work and on the road and in every place of Your possession.

Lord, protect him under the protection of Your Saints from a flying bullet, arrow, knife, sword, poison, fire, flood, from a deadly ulcer and from vain death. Lord, protect him from visible and invisible enemies, from all troubles, evils and misfortunes.

Lord, heal him from all diseases, cleanse him from all filth (wine, tobacco, drugs) and ease his mental suffering and sorrow. Lord, grant him the grace of the Holy Spirit for many years of life, health, and chastity.

Lord, give him Your blessing for a godly family life and godly childbearing.

Lord, grant me, Thy unworthy and sinful servant, a parental blessing on my child in the coming mornings, days, evenings and nights, for Thy name’s sake, for Thy Kingdom is eternal, omnipotent and omnipotent. Amen. Lord have mercy."

Hope in God

Unbelieving people rely only on material resources. During illness, they rely only on the help of doctors and medicine. A Christian strives to find the reason for what is happening in his spiritual life.

“In order to determine the nature of the disease, a spiritual view is needed. This is especially important if the child is sick. Because this creature is fragile, tender, like a newly blooming flower. He can live safely physically for the time being. But in spiritual terms, it is already like a dried plant in a herbarium. This is already like the first death.

In general, we can say this: all the activities of the doctor, and with him the parents who are treating the child, should be directed, as it were, from top to bottom: spiritual, mental and physical. Therefore, the first thing when a child gets sick should be prayer. To do this, mother and father must gather internally and leave all vanity. Of course, when a child falls ill, the parents’ hearts cannot be calm; anxiety begins, which often, unfortunately, turns into fussiness. And prayer helps to leave this fussiness” (doctor-priest Alexy Grachev, 1959-1998).

After turning to the Creator, parents receive instruction on how to act correctly in a given situation, and how to treat it. If possible, the child should be given Holy Communion of the Body and Blood of Christ.

“In prayer we need faith. When you pray for your child to be cured, do not think about illness, but about health. That is, prayer means that at the moment when you pray, you must believe that this is already happening, that it is already beginning. Otherwise, our faith is more like a theory” (Archimandrite Andrei Konanos).

A mother's strong prayer for her son and protection over him

“The will of the Lord sent you to me, my guardian angel, protector and trustee. Therefore, I appeal to you in difficult times in my prayer, so that you protect me from great trouble.

Those invested with earthly power oppress me, and I have no other defense than the heavenly power, which stands over us all and rules our world. Holy angel, protect me from oppression and insults from those who have risen above me. Protect me from their injustice, for for this reason I suffer innocently.

I forgive, as God taught, these people their sins against me, for the Lord has exalted those who were exalted above me and is testing me with this. All this is the will of God, but from everything that is beyond the will of God, save me, my guardian angel. What I ask of you in my prayer. Amen."

What should be the prayer to Nicholas the Wonderworker for the health of the child?

During illness, Orthodox Christians turn for help not only to the Merciful God and the Mother of God, but also to the saints. Then the saints of God become mediators in the request between man and the Creator. They, having reached the Kingdom of Heaven, have the right to ask the Creator to heal illnesses. It is not the saints who heal, but the Lord Himself through the prayers of the saints.

Saint Nicholas of Myra is praised as the Great Wonderworker, capable of providing first aid to all those in need. However, you should not give the text of the prayer itself a special “miraculous” power. This is not a magic spell, after reading which illnesses will stop. Fervor and purity of heart are important here. Thus, a prayer to Nicholas the Wonderworker for the health of a child, read by a mother or father, should be perceived as a conversation with a saint asking for help. At the same time, the Holy Fathers teach to trust in God’s Will.

“A person who, having abandoned his plans, completely entrusts himself to the Lord, lives according to God’s plan. To the extent that a person clings to his self, he is thrown back. He does not advance spiritually because he interferes with Divine mercy. To succeed, you need to trust God completely” (St. Paisius the Svyatogorets, 1921-1991).

Why pray for grandchildren

It is believed that after the birth of a child, a guardian angel is appointed for him, who makes sure that everything is fine with the baby. Orthodox believers want to baptize a newborn as early as possible in order to entrust his life to the divine principle.

The grandmother’s prayer is equated to the mother’s prayer - these are one of the most powerful tools that are unofficially recognized by the Russian Orthodox Church as miraculous.

Miraculous help through prayers to St. Nicholas the Pleasant

In 2013, Maria, a resident of Buryatia, was kept in hospital during her pregnancy. When she was seven months pregnant, an ultrasound showed that the fetus had not developed for several weeks. Bone size and other factors indicated pathology. The woman was sent to the regional center for artificial stimulation of labor. Someone gave her an icon of St. Nicholas. Mary began to ask the saint for help in her own words. Her prayer to Nicholas the Wonderworker for the health of the child was heard. The diagnosis was not confirmed; doctors referred to a device error. In due time, the woman gave birth to a healthy daughter.

In 2016, Moscow resident Lyubov got married and gave birth to a daughter. When the child was ten months old, the girl suddenly developed a high fever at night and began to experience seizures. The mother managed to lower the temperature for a while and the child fell asleep. The woman also dozed off. In her sleep, she continued to be tormented by concern for her child. She kept asking herself: “Who should I pray to with my troubles? I don't know…". Then she heard a soft female voice saying that a prayer to St. Nicholas the Wonderworker for the healing of the child would help her. Waking up, Lyubov remembered that St. Nicholas is the patron saint of children and began to pray to him. An unknown illness has disappeared from the child.
