The main thing is to free yourself from bad thoughts, try not to sin and repent of the sins you have already committed. And then miraculous prayer will help change your life for the better.
Basic Rules
Prayer to Nicholas the Wonderworker is performed according to certain rules. It should be said every day at a certain time, for example, in the morning or before bed. Before you start reading, take a blessing from the priest, if you have such an opportunity.
Buy an icon depicting a saint or church candles. During prayer, you should not be distracted by anything: turn off your phone, ask your household not to disturb you, try to forget about everyday affairs and worries. During prayer, you should feel like you are communicating with the Saint, pouring out your troubles and sorrows to him. Do not pray “automatically”, repeating a memorized text: in this case, your words will never reach the “addressee”.
You can read prayers both in the temple and at home. It is recommended to pray in church. Thanks to the special atmosphere that reigns in churches, you will feel the closeness of God and the saints, and you will have the opportunity to enter into a real dialogue with higher powers. Sometimes praying at home is quite difficult: people in the household distract you, and you remember things you didn’t have time to do during the day.
Important Tips
You can pray both in Russian and in Church Slavonic. It is recommended to first learn the Russian text so as not to confuse the words and not hesitate during the prayer address. Don't be afraid if you can't remember the words right away. You can replace them with your own. The main thing is your sincerity and openness to any outcome of events.
You don’t have to learn the text of the prayer, but read it from a prayer book or copy the text onto paper. Over time, the prayer will be remembered by you and you will be able not to use a book or “cheat sheet”.
If you are constantly praying but not seeing results, think carefully about your behavior. Maybe you are not sincere enough, or often commit sins without thinking about it? Or are you praying to make someone jealous or to get more than you really need? To avoid this, before starting to read prayers, it is recommended to visit the temple and confess. This will help cleanse your soul and look at yourself and your life with new eyes.
Some facts of the saint's biography
Many facts from the life of the saint testify to his bright soul and God's gift.
Nicholas the Wonderworker was born in Turkey, into a wealthy family. From an early age, he spent all his time in the temple, studying the Bible and church rituals. After the death of his parents, he distributed all his property to the poor. At the beginning of the 19th century, the relics of St. Nicholas were transported to Italy:
- Prayers to Nicholas the Pleasant have special power. They help heal serious illnesses and find solutions to insoluble problems. According to legend, during navigation one of the sailors was injured. He was dying, but prayer helped.
- Already during his lifetime, Nikolai gave people goodness and performed miracles. The image of Jesus Christ came to him, who gave this gift. He did not ask for anything in return for his good deeds; on the contrary, the saint forbade telling anyone about his help. This is evidenced by a story that has survived to this day.
The legend tells how one of the rich men, who had three daughters, went bankrupt. He did not even dream of giving his daughters as wives without a dowry. Nicholas the Wonderworker secretly placed gold coins in their house. They were enough to marry off the older girl. After a short period of time, another bag of money appeared in the house. There were enough coins to marry off the middle daughter. When it was the turn to marry off his youngest daughter, the father decided to check who was helping them and saw St. Nicholas. The father threw himself at the feet of his savior. Nikolai asked him not to tell anyone about his good deeds.
In appeals to Saint Nicholas they ask for justice and help in various matters. Nikolai Ugodnik often defended people who were unjustifiably slandered, even if he was not asked to do so.
Many decades have passed since the death of Nicholas, but people still receive help from the relics and icon of the Saint. Days of remembrance are usually considered to be the transfer of relics from Turkey to Italy, Christmas and the death of the saint.

Defender of widows, orphans and the poor - Nicholas the Wonderworker
The image of Nicholas the Wonderworker is familiar to everyone - an elderly man with a round pleasant face, with a beard and mustache. He is dressed in church vestments because he was a priest during his lifetime. Prayer for help to his neighbors was a habitual thing for him, which he continued even after he settled in the heavenly abodes. The saint appeared to many people even after death, helping them escape from troubles.
There is a known case when he helped a robber escape from pursuit. The fact is that the bandit used to light a candle to the saint before going on business. But one day the wise old man appeared to him and said that until he gave up his work, he did not want to accept candles from him or hear his prayers. Thus the saint showed both his kindness (he nevertheless saved the man) and his wisdom (he admonished him to abandon his unrighteous occupation).

Life of a Saint
The biography of Nikolai Ugodnik does not shine with facts. The reason for this is the saint’s concealment of his good deeds from people. He did good in secret and carefully concealed his good deeds.
Acts of Nicholas the Wonderworker
It is known that the boy was born into a pious family of wealthy Christians in the Roman province of Lycia. He loved Christ with all his heart and decided to devote his life to serving God.
He stayed in church all day long, praying, studying the Bible and Christian literature. His uncle, the Bishop of Patara, confirmed his nephew as a reader. This position is not as simple as it initially seems. A church minister is obliged not only to interpret the Holy Scriptures during Liturgies and other services, but also to deliver sermons and teach catechumens and children. The future saint performed his work “excellently,” so he was soon elevated to the priesthood and appointed junior cleric.
After his father and mother departed to the Lord, the heir distributed the resulting fortune to the poor and needy.
Nicholas began serving God during times of persecution of believers; he was arrested for his beliefs, but even here he constantly preached the Word of God and encouraged his fellow prisoners. After imprisonment, he returned to his beloved flock, was a true warrior of Christ and fought against the Arian heresy.
In 325, Saint Nicholas was honored to take part in the 1st Ecumenical Council, where he fiercely denounced the teaching of the heretic Arius and, at the end of his accusatory speech, whipped the false teacher on the cheeks. For assault, he was punished and deprived of the priest's liturgical attire - the omophorion, and then taken into custody. But at night, it was revealed to some of the fathers who took part in the meeting that Nicholas’s bold behavior was pleasing to the Almighty. He was released and reinstated.
Saint Nicholas of Myra reposed in Christ at an old age.
His mortal relics did not immediately find a permanent home. His incorruptible body, exuding fragrant myrrh, was laid to rest in the local church. From 1807 to the present day, the mortal relics of the Wonderworker rest in Italy in the city of Bari.

Deliver us, saints of Christ, from the evils that come upon us, and tame the waves, passions and troubles that rise against us, so that for the sake of your holy prayers the attack will not overwhelm us and we will not wallow in the abyss of sin and in the mud of our passions. Protect and preserve our country, and every country existing in Orthodoxy, with your holy prayers from worldly rebellion, the sword, the invasion of foreigners, from internecine and bloody warfare. And just as you had mercy on three men imprisoned, and you delivered them from the king’s wrath and the beating of the sword, so have mercy and delivered the Orthodox people of Great, Little and White Rus' from the destructive heresy of the Latin.
For through your intercession and help, and through His mercy and grace, may Christ God look with His merciful eye on people who exist in ignorance, even though they have not known their right hand, especially young people, by whom the Latin seductions are spoken to turn away from the Orthodox faith, may he enlighten the minds of His people, may they not be tempted and fall away from the faith of their fathers, may their conscience, lulled by vain wisdom and ignorance, awaken and turn their will to the preservation of the holy Orthodox faith, may they remember the faith and humility of our fathers, may their life be for the Orthodox faith who have laid down and accepted the warm prayers of His holy saints, who have shone in our land, keeping us from the delusion and heresy of the Latin, so that, having preserved us in holy Orthodoxy, He will grant us at His terrible Judgment to stand on the right hand with all the saints. Amen"

Troparion and Kontakion to St. Nicholas Archbishop Peace to the Lycian Wonderworker
Troparia and kontakia are short hymns that tell about important episodes in the life of a saint. Nicholas the Wonderworker was born in Patara, in a country called Lycian. Nikolai's uncle noticed early on that his nephew was striving with all his heart to serve God.
During his ordination as a priest, Nicholas addressed the people in the church, saying that only those who would be under his protection would find happiness. He will have to save many souls, heal illnesses and help those in need. And Nikolai truly dedicated his future life to helping people. He constantly prayed, performed church duties, and amazed those around him with the purity of his soul. Nikolai even gave away all his property, which had not the slightest value to him.
During one of his prayers, Nicholas heard a voice from Heaven calling him to go to the city of Myra, the metropolis of Lycia. This is what the future saint did. In Mir, Nikolai became an old man who did not have his own home.
At this time, the archbishop died in Myra. It was impossible to find a new worthy person to take his place. And then it was decided to ask God for help. During prayer, the church servants saw a bright image in front of them, calling to follow who would be the first to cross the threshold of the temple in the morning. It is he who should become the bishop. In the morning, Nicholas entered the church, becoming an archbishop and until the end of his life, he set an example for the laity of a life pleasing to God.
Kontakia and troparia are sung in churches on certain days associated with the life of the saint. However, you can read them at home. You must first take a blessing from the priest. He will explain how to pronounce the right words correctly and when to do it.

Nicholas' childhood years were spent within church walls studying the Word of God. The bishop, who was the uncle of the future saint, soon assigned him the rank of reader, and later elevated the young man to the rank of priest. These years spent next to his relative as his right hand gave Nikolai a lot, because he had many responsibilities, including teaching his flock.
Some researchers argue that everything happened differently: following a sign, the Lycian Council elected a simple parishioner as a bishop. No one knows which of these versions is correct.
After the death of his parents, Nikolai did not keep their fortune for himself, but divided it among those in need.
Nicholas' ministry fell on very difficult times. The Roman emperors Diocletian and Maximian persecuted Christians, which were supported by their governors and heirs for almost twenty years. When Licinius became ruler, the persecution of believers in Christ stopped. At this time Nikolai became bishop. Christian communities were given the opportunity to develop.
Nicholas chose his path by starting the fight against paganism. He took part in the destruction of pagan temples, while standing for the purity of faith, not allowing heretical teachings to develop.
Prayer to St. Nicholas the Wonderworker traveling by sea
Nicholas the Wonderworker is revered as a protector on the sea route. He is called for help in order to protect himself from slander and injustice. Innocently convicted people ask the saint for intercession. All travelers rely on his prayer.
How prayers helped our reader Irina Nikolaevna U.
“To be honest, I never really believed in God. That is, I had thoughts that there was something, but I never went to church, only occasionally, on holidays. She lived a quiet life. Husband, daughter, work. And great grief happened to me. Mom, who had never been seriously ill with anything before, began to weaken. She was burning before her eyes, and refused to go to the doctor. She complained of weakness and constant fatigue. Age - over 60, you never know what could happen... And my husband reassured me, saying, what do you want, pensioner. And I consoled myself with the thought that there was nothing wrong, I was just tired at work, I just forgot to have a snack, just age-related changes...
During my next visit to my mother (she lives in a neighboring city, she can’t travel often), I almost fainted. She's lost so much weight that she's unrecognizable. And in just a couple of months, we didn’t see each other, but only talked on the phone. Her clothes were literally hanging off her. The face is drawn, the eyes are sunken. I literally made a scandal to go to the doctor. Fortunately, my friend is a doctor, she works in a good private clinic. Mom was admitted immediately, all the tests were done on the same day we came in... They did an MRI, took blood, and did something else. In short, a complete set.
Diagnosis
I hoped that nothing bad would happen. Maybe there’s something wrong with the stomach, gastritis, for example... That’s why he’s losing so much weight. But my friend called me first. Bowel cancer. Second stage. There are chances, but they are few. There are also a bunch of accompanying ailments that make the operation difficult, something with the heart and blood vessels, I still don’t understand what exactly. That is, we risk losing time if we treat concomitant diseases, and we risk losing our mother if we perform the operation right now. She might simply not survive the anesthesia.
I cannot describe in words what I experienced. It was as if a tub of cold water had been poured on my head. I cried all night. But I told my mother right away, literally the next day after her diagnosis became known. She is the kind of person: it’s easier for her to know the truth. We cried. A doctor friend was also present when I told my story and told my mother what the prospects for treatment were.
Mom first began to say that her days were numbered, that she did not want to be treated and would simply wait for death. I persuaded as best I could. But not at all. And time cannot be lost in such situations. But without the will of the patient, treatment is impossible. We agreed that mom would think for a couple of days and then make a decision.
Leading in a dream
I decided to spend the night with my mother and explained the situation to my husband. In the morning, during breakfast, my mother said a strange thing: they say, she dreamed of an old man with a bright look, from whom some unusually kind warmth radiated. It's like they're walking in a meadow. And he tells her: get treatment, don’t waste time, you have to raise not only your granddaughter, but also your second grandson. And he smiled so well...
Therefore, my mother decided to go to the hospital and do whatever they told her. My joy knew no bounds. We agreed on hospitalization. Only my mother asked us to stop at the temple first. I was surprised, but didn’t show it. Let's go. Mom went to the church shop and was stunned. She showed me the icon of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker: here, they say, is that old man, let’s buy his image so that it can be with me in the hospital...
Naturally, I agreed. We also bought a blessed cross. And I began to pray every evening. Before going to bed, she repeated: “Oh Saint Nicholas of Christ, help my mother overcome the test, let her return to us alive and healthy.”
How a saint helped in the fight against Cancer
I don’t know what worked: prayers to St. Nicholas the Wonderworker or my mother’s will to live. The accompanying pathologies that interfered with the operation, as my friend said, were greatly overestimated. The operation went well. Mom recovered quickly, much faster than her roommates. There were no complications at all. No metastases were found in other organs. The doctor who performed the operation said that he had not seen such a rate of recovery for a long time. Literally a couple of days later, my mother was already going, demanding tastier food (which was forbidden to her).
Several months passed in a blur. Hospital, consultations with doctors, caring for my mother... But the happy day of discharge came. The whole family came to visit my mother for a while. And then I noticed that I felt weak all the time. I was terribly scared. I ran to my doctor friend, saying that I probably also had cancer. She sent me for tests. I gave it up and went home. A call in a couple of hours. A friend laughs and says, yes, there is something inside you. Decide what you will call it. It turned out that I was pregnant. Second month. In the bustle I didn’t even notice...
Now my mother is healthy and full of strength. Of course, we are afraid of a relapse, but we are monitoring all indicators. And in a month our son will be born. We'll probably call him Nikolai.
I want to tell everyone. Take care of your parents and yourself. Be attentive to your health and the health of your loved ones. And listen to what the doctors say. If my mother had not seen that dream, she could have acted on her fears and refused treatment. And then she would no longer be with us. At least, that’s what doctors unanimously say. We received great mercy from God, I don’t know for what merit. But we must not forget about the need to be reasonable and listen to ourselves.”
