Psalm 26, 50, 90 and Virgin Mary, Rejoice: interpretation, text

Psalms 26, 50, and 90 stand out among other prayer texts. They were written in different circumstances, but their meaning is the same. Therefore, in addition to the Davidic ones, after the name of their author, they received the name “protective psalms.” They should be read during times of imminent danger. Each text has its own writing history and reading rules.

The Optina elder gave farewell words to his guests - the writer Sergei Nilus and his wife. He told them about the power of reading Psalms 26 and 90, that if you read it in the morning, then even if the enemy sends a cloud of arrows in your direction, not a single one will touch you.

King David tried to live righteously and simply, as befits a Christian. But royal power gives rise to permissiveness. Temptation becomes strong and overshadows faith in God. It was in difficult situations, when he himself or his loved ones were mired in sins, that the king wrote Psalms 26, 50, 90.

At these words, the elder stood up from his chair, hugged me and with some special strength, in a rolling ringing voice, did not even say, but shouted:

- I’ll tell you more: it won’t blow up with a bomb ! I kissed the old man’s hand that hugged me. And he again, pressing himself close to my ear, again loudly exclaimed:

- And the bomb won’t explode!* And don’t pay any attention to any rubbish: what can rubbish do to you?.. That’s what I wanted to talk to you about. Well, now go with the Lord!

And with these words the elder sent us away in peace.

I knew that person, more precisely, the woman to whom the elder was hinting, calling her rubbish: she clung to the Optina splendid-leaved tree like a lichen, and for a long time, with her false holiness and the name of the elders, she fooled the Optina pilgrims. I understood her, and she took revenge on me where she could. God be with her!..

“And the bomb won’t explode!..” Prediction of Fr. John (Salov) was exactly fulfilled during the Civil War. According to the memoirs of M.V. Psalm 50

Psalm 50 is better known to believers as “David’s prayer” - a prayer of repentance. The king, striving to live righteously, could not withstand the temptation of power. He fell in love with the beauty, the wife of his own commander. Having organized the betrayal and murder of the warrior, in the meantime he ordered his wife to be brought to the palace and committed adultery with her.

As a result, sin was revealed, disturbances began, and his own children went against the king. When David regained his sight, realizing what he had done, he wrote Psalm 50 with his own hand. In it he repented and asked God for forgiveness and protection from temptations.

Why read

Psalm 50 is read as a prayer of repentance for the forgiveness of sins and unseemly acts committed. Believers claim that after reading the text written by David, the soul becomes lighter and brighter. All grievances and anxieties go away.
