VESPERS. VOICE 4TH
Sunday stichera on the Lord I cried
To Your life-creating Cross, / never ceasingly bowing down, O Christ God, / we glorify Your three-day Resurrection: / therefore You have renewed the decayed human nature, O All-Powerful One, / and likewise You have renewed the rise to Heaven for us, / For we are the only Good and Lover of mankind.
[Translation from Church Slavonic into Russian]
[We glorify Your life-giving Cross/without ceasing, O Christ God,/Your resurrection on the third day; / for with them You renewed the decayed human nature, O All-Powerful One, / and showed us the path of ascension to heaven, / as the only Good One and Lover of Mankind.]
From the tree of disobedience / you resolved the prohibition, O Savior, / having been nailed to the tree of the cross by your will, / and descended into hell, Mighty, / you tore apart the bonds of death, like God. / In the same way we bow to Your Resurrection from the dead, / crying out with joy: / Omnipotent Lord, glory to You.
[The punishment for the tree of disobedience / You canceled, O Savior, by the tree of the Cross, / voluntarily nailed to it; / and, having descended into hell, O All-Powerful One, / You, like God, broke the shackles of death. / Therefore we worship Your resurrection from the dead, / crying out in joy: / “Almighty Lord, glory to You!”]
In the host of hell you crushed, O Lord, / and by your death you destroyed the mortal kingdom: / you freed the human race from corruption, / you gave life and incorruption to the world, / and great mercy.
[[You destroyed the gates of hell, O Lord, / and by Your death you destroyed the kingdom of death, / and freed the human race from corruption, / giving life and immortality to the world, / and great mercy.]p>
Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.
And for Your sake, the Godfather prophet David / proclaimed in song about You, / the greatness of You who created: / the Queen appears at Your right hand. / You are the Mother, the Intercessor of the Life of the Show, / without a father from You, the Benevolent God may become human, / so that His image, decayed by passions, will again be renewed, / and the lost pea-eater will find a sheep, / we will take it to the frame, bring it to the Father, / and bring it to His will, with He will unite with Heavenly Powers, / and save, O Mother of God, the world, / Christ having great and rich mercy.
[[Through You, Mother of God, / the prophet David, who became the ancestor of God, / euphoniously proclaimed about You / before the One who created greatness for You: / “The Queen appeared on Your right.” / For God made You the Mother, the bearer of life, / without a father, He deigned to be incarnate from You , / to renew in us His image, destroyed by passions, / and, finding a sheep lost in the mountains, / taking it on his shoulders to bring it to the Father, / and, according to His will, uniting it with the heavenly Powers and saving the world - / Christ, who has great and rich mercy .]p>
Sunday stichera on verse, tone 4
Lord , having ascended to the Cross, / you have taken our ancestral oath, / and having descended into hell, / you have freed eternal prisoners, / granting incorruptibility to the human race, / for this sake we singly glorify / Your life-giving and saving Rebellion.
[T[You, Lord, having ascended to the Cross, / canceled the curse that came upon us from our ancestors; / and descending into hell, he freed the prisoners who had been there for centuries, / granting incorruption to the human race. / Therefore, by singing, we glorify / Your life-giving and saving resurrection.]
Hanged on the tree, the only Mighty One, / you shook all creation: / you were laid in the tomb, / you raised up those living in the tombs, / granting incorruption and life to the human race. / In the same way we sing, we glorify / Your three-day Uprising.
[Hanging on the Tree, You, the only Mighty One, / shook the entire creation / and was laid in the tomb, / resurrected those who were in the graves, / granting incorruptibility and life to the human race. / Therefore, by singing we glorify / Your resurrection on the third day.]
Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.
Look at the prayers of Your servant, All-Immaculate One, / quenching the fierce uprisings that come upon us, / changing us of all sorrows. / You, the One, are the firm and well-known Affirmation of the Imam, / and Your intercession is the acquisition. / Let us not be ashamed, O Lady, of those who call upon Thee, / striving to entreaty, those who truly cry out to Thee: / Rejoice, O Lady, Help of all, / Joy and Protection, and the Salvation of our souls.
[P[Bend down to the prayers of Your servants, All-Immaculate, / stopping the troubles that rise against us, / delivering us from all sorrow: / for we have You alone as a firm and reliable support, / and in You we have found protection. / Let us not be ashamed, Lady, in calling upon You! / Hasten to fulfill the prayer of those who cry to You with faith: / “Rejoice, Lady, help to all, / joy and protection and salvation of our souls!”]
Troparion, tone 4
With the bright Resurrection sermon / the disciples of the Lord brought the Lord away from the Angel / and rejected the ancestral condemnation, / the apostle boasted with the verb: / death has been cast away, / Christ God has risen, / bestowing great mercy on the world.
[Having learned the joyful news of the resurrection from the Angel, / and having freed themselves from their ancestral condemnation, / the Lord’s disciples exclaimed to the apostles, triumphantly: / “Death has been cast down, Christ God has risen, / giving great mercy to the world!”]p> Glory to the Father and the Son and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.
This mystery, hidden for centuries / and unknown to the Angel, / is embodied by You, the Mother of God, who exists on earth as God, / in an unfused union, / and we will accept the Cross for our sake, / through it, having resurrected the primordial, / saving our souls from death.
[From the ages, hidden / and unknown to the Angels, / through You, Mother of God, revealed to those living on earth, / - God, embodied in the unfused unity of two natures, / and for our sake, voluntarily accepted the Cross - / with him He resurrected the primordial Adam / and saved our souls from death.] Resurrection Canon, tone 4

[You ascended, O Lord, / correcting our fall, / onto the most pure tree of the Cross, / and healing our entire destruction / from the tree of knowledge, / as good and omnipotent.] In the grave carnally, in hell with the soul, like God : / in paradise with the thief, and on the Throne you were, Christ, with the Father and the Spirit, / fulfilling all the Indescribable.
[In the tomb with flesh, and in hell with soul as God, / in paradise with the thief / and on the throne were You, Christ, with the Father and the Spirit, / filling everything, boundless.] With glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.
Without seed, by the will of the Father, / from the Divine Spirit of God, you conceived a Son, / and you gave birth to flesh: / Who is from the Father without a mother, / for our sake, from You, without a father.

[The Tree of Life, spiritual and true grapes, / hangs on the Cross, exuding immortality to all.] trong> As great as it is terrible, as it is to cast down the vacillation of hell, / and as God is incorruptible, now resurrected in the flesh.

Canons about the dead in eight voices
The beginning of the funeral canons is general:
Through the prayers of the saints, our fathers, Lord Jesus Christ, our God, have mercy on us, amen.
Glory to Thee, our God, glory to Thee.
Heavenly King, Comforter, Soul of truth, Who is everywhere and fulfills everything, Treasure of good things and Giver of life, come and dwell in us, and cleanse us from all filth, and save, O Good One, souls ours.
Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us. Three times.
Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.
Most Holy Trinity, have mercy on us; Lord, cleanse our sins; Master, forgive our iniquities; Holy One, visit and heal our infirmities, for Thy name's sake.
Lord, have mercy, three times.
Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.
Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be Your name, Your kingdom come, Your will be done, as it is in Heaven and on earth. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, just as we forgive our debtors; and do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.
Lord have mercy, 12,
Come, let us worship the King our God.
Come, let us worship and fall down before Christ, our King God.
Come, let us bow and fall down to Christ Himself, the King and our God.
Psalm 90:
Living in the help of the Most High, he will dwell in the blood of the Heavenly God. Says the Lord: You are my protector and my refuge, my God, and I trust in Him. For He will deliver you from the net of the trap and from the words of rebellion, His splash will overshadow you, and under His krill you hope that His truth will surround you with weapons. Do not fear from the fear of the night, from the arrow that flies in the days, from the things that pass in the darkness, from the grime and the demon of the midday. Thousands will fall from your country, and darkness will be at your right hand, but it will not come close to you, but look with your eyes, and see the reward of sinners. For You, O Lord, are my hope, You have made the Most High your refuge. Evil will not come to you and wound will not approach your body, as His Angel commanded you about you, to keep you in all your ways. They will lift you up in their arms, but when you dash your foot against a stone, you will step on the asp and the basilisk, and cross the lion and the serpent. For I have trusted in Me, and I will deliver, and I will cover, because I have known My name. He will call to Me and I will hear him, I am with him in sorrow, I will destroy him and glorify him, I will fulfill him with the length of days and show him My salvation.
Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.
Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, glory to you, O God (three times).
Lord have mercy (three times)
Troparion, tone 8
With the depth of wisdom, build everything humanely, / and give what is useful to everyone, / alone the Creator, God rest the soul of Your servant: / I have placed my trust in You, / Creator and Maker and our God.
Glory, and now: Theotokos: To you and the wall and refuge of the imam, / and the prayer book is favorable to God, / Whom you gave birth to, the brideless Mother of God, the salvation of the faithful.
Psalm 50
Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your great mercy, and according to the multitude of Your compassions, cleanse my iniquity. Above all, wash me from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin; For I know my iniquity, and I will bear away my sin before me. I have sinned against You alone and have done evil before You, so that You may be justified in Your words and triumph over Your judgment. Behold, I was conceived in iniquities, and my mother gave birth to me in sins. Behold, you have loved the truth; You have shown me Your unknown and secret wisdom. Sprinkle me with hyssop, and I will be clean; Wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. There is joy and gladness in my ears; the bones of the humble will rejoice. Turn away Your face from my sins and cleanse all my iniquities. Create a pure heart in me, O God, and renew a right spirit in my womb. Do not cast me away from Your presence and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Give me the joy of Your salvation and strengthen me with the Lord’s Spirit. I will teach the wicked your way, and wickedness will turn to you. Deliver me from bloodshed, O God, God of my salvation; my tongue will rejoice in Your righteousness. Lord, open my mouth, and my mouth will declare Your praise. As if you had desired sacrifices, you would have given them: you do not favor burnt offerings. The sacrifice to God is a broken spirit; God will not despise a contrite and humble heart. Bless Zion, O Lord, with Your favor, and may the walls of Jerusalem be built. Then take pleasure in the sacrifice of righteousness, the offering and the burnt offering; then they will place your calf on the altar.
Canon for the deceased, its edge: Rule four, remembering the death. Voice 4.
Song 1
Irmos: The sea of the black abyss, with damp feet, ancient Israel, who walked on foot, defeated the cruciform arm of Moses, and defeated the power of Amalek in the desert.
Chorus: God is divine in His saints, God of Israel.
Hold Thy servant by the right hand, guide them to immortal pasture, O Savior, in the sight of Thy kindness the passion-bearing martyrs beseeched.
Chorus: Rest, Lord, to the souls of Your departed servants.
Thy ineffable and blessed glory, those who have ceased to inherit by faith, O Christ, despising their sins, and justified by grace, by the outpouring of Thy blood.
Glory: By Thy life-giving deadness Thou hast put to death the mortifier, O Christ God, whom He accepted, and to whom Thou hast given life, Thou Himself now give rest to Thy faithful servants.
And now, the Mother of God: Handsome with the highest kindnesses, like the Son of God: and because of You, the Virgin, who was incarnate and hanged on the Tree, having no kindness, death is accepted for all.
Song 3
Irmos: We do not boast in wisdom and strength and wealth, but in You, the Father’s Hypostatic Wisdom, Christ: there is nothing more holy than You, O Lover of Mankind.
Having conquered the idolatrous charm of the martyr, they now pray to the Lord and God to grant Divine peace to those who have passed away.
Pass over the weapons that turn with favor, and likewise receive the sacrament of the living tree that Thy servants have passed away, O Master.
Glory: In paradise, Christ, food will be found by Thy servant of the Lord, where the voice of those who celebrate is pure, thereby granting forgiveness of sins.
And now, the Mother of God: You, the Most Pure One, combined virginity with the Divine Nativity: for you unspeakably gave birth to the Creator of all, Whose will everyone obeys.
Sedalen, voice 6:
Truly all kinds of vanity, / but life is shadow and sleep, / for every earth-born is troubled in vain, / like the saying of Scripture: / when we have gained peace, / then we will dwell in the tomb, / where together the king and beggars. / Moreover, Christ God, / having rested in peace, / as a Lover of mankind.
Glory, even now, to the Mother of God: All-Holy Mother of God, / during my life, do not forsake me, / do not entrust me to human intercession, / but intercede and have mercy on me.
Song 4
Irmos: You are exalted, having seen the Church on the Cross, the righteous Sun, standing in your rank, worthily crying out: glory to your power, Lord.
Having appeared as a martyr, they enlighten the church sky, even asking the Savior Christ to grant weakening to the departed.
Thy servants, the sea of the world, hath a rod of power: Thy cross hath taken place: in whom thou hast dwelled in thy mountain, O Lord, in which thou hast made a sanctuary.
Glory: In the village, truly beloved, which you have chosen, O Master, and whom you have accepted, your servants have been pleased to dwell like a merciful soul, like the righteous souls.
And now, the Mother of God: Who possessed the dead and the living, having incarnated as a Man from You, the Mother of God, endured death in the Immortal flesh, destroying the power of death.
Song 5
Irmos: You, my Lord, have come into the world, the Holy Light, turning those who sing of You from darkness of ignorance.
You, Lord, have glorified your dominion as martyrs: for the same reason, first of all, the repose of the departed is blessed.
Undecided life, red joy, and unceasing joy, first grant to the dead, O Most Merciful.
Glory: O One who is Blessed, and the source of goodness, give rest to those who have died in faith, and in Your knowledge the lives of those who have passed away.
And now, the Mother of God: We sing to You, Mother of God, Who has shone an ineffable and unapproachable Light to those who exist in darkness, and to blessed love.
Song 6
Irmos: I will devour Thee with a voice of praise, Lord, the Church cries out to Thee, having been cleansed from the blood of demons, for the sake of mercy from Thy ribs the blood flowed.
The Divine Spear pierced Your ribs, seeing the turning weapon, O Savior, may Your servant, Your passion-bearer, retreat from Your prayers.
My Savior was hanged on the Tree, You opened heaven: in the faith of the departed, the stench of the departed was infused, as you are generous, and show your partakers of your life.
Glory: The pastures of the living creatures are able to enjoy, those who are like You, Master, who have passed through death in a pious manner, and who have come to be numbered with the righteous from time immemorial.
And now, the Mother of God: The Word, like God, is invisible, and we see incarnate, from the unskilled Virgin Mary, and destroy His death with His death.
Kontakion, tone 8:
Rest with the saints, / Christ, Thy servant of the soul, / where there is no sickness, no sorrow, / no sighing, / but endless life.
Ikos:
You yourself are the only immortal, / who created and created man: / from earth we were created from the earth, / and into the earth we will go, / as you commanded, who created me and who gave me rivers: / I For thou art the earth, and unto the earth thou shalt go: / and perhaps all men let's go, / funeral lament, creating a song: / hallelujah.
Song 7
Irmos: In the cave of Abraham, the youths of the Persians, with love of piety rather than with burning flames, cried out: blessed art thou in the temple of thy glory, O Lord.
Patience and waiting, and the blood of all martyr, deliverance received, piously departed with you rest, as you are merciful and beneficial.
Considered among Your firstborn and Your righteous, O Savior, the souls of Your servants who have been reposed to You, grant You the unceasing enjoyment of the Lord of all.
Glory: With joy and with boldness and luminosity of the Word of God the Deliverer, for God was pleased to meet You in the clouds, whom You have accepted today as You are merciful.
And now, Mother of God: Blessed Virgin Mother of God, rejoice: for for the sake of thee the consumption of death was truly granted, and life indestructible was given to the dead.
Song 8
Irmos: Daniel stretched out his hand, the gaping lions in the pit of the prison: quenching the fiery power, girded with virtue, the zealous youths, crying out: bless all the works of the Lord Lord.
Receiving the prayers of the martyrs, and mercy for those of the same tribe, rest the souls, O Lord, in Thy faith of those who have fallen asleep, despising the sins of these who cry out to You: bless the Lord the Lord in all your deeds.
Having been imputed to the dead with the wicked, You have given immortal life to the dead, Thy servants who have passed away for the hope of resurrection, Thy kingdom shall be enhanced by the grace of the Savior, Thee those who cry: Bless the Lord the Lord in all your deeds.
Glory: Truly an ever-flowing source of goodness, in the heavenly villages your servants have passed away, and your corruptible life has been left behind, meekly Savior, reconcile, those who cry out to you: bless all deeds those of the Lord.
And now, the Mother of God: You alone appeared on earth, the Most Pure Virgin, and the husbandless Mother: for you gave birth to God, the Lady, more than words and meaning, and you exuded eternal life to the dead. Moreover, let us all bless you, Mary the Bride of God.
Song 9
Irmos: Eve, through the illness of disobedience to the oath, instilled in you, but You, Virgin Mother of God, through the vegetation of the womb of the world, You have blossomed with blessing: Thus we magnify You with all things.
You have given the true sufferer and the martyr the boldness to pray to Thee, O Lord: grant that by faith those who have passed away, for the sake of the Divine deliverance, may dwell in the place of the holy village, granting.
By the gesture of the omnipotent, who has done all things beneficial, having dominion over the living and ruling over the dead, as the omnipotent One, do what Thou hast left Thy servants upon the still waters.
Glory: Who by nature is good, who is rich in mercy and goodness, deliver from the outer darkness those who call on your name, having justified by faith and grace, enlighten them, I Ko Lover of Humanity.
And now, Mother of God: Images, O All-Immaculate One, the prophets of Your Nativity preached, otherwise, it is glorious for your friends to compose the blaming words: For in hell you gave birth to beings, destroying the power of death.
The end of the funeral canons
Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us. (Thrice)

And this troparia is sung. Voice 4:
From the spirits of the righteous who have passed away, / give rest to the souls of Thy servant, O Savior, / preserving them in the blessed life / which belongs to Thee, O Lover of Mankind.
In Thy chamber, O Lord, / where all Thy saints rest, / rest the souls of Thy servant, / for Thou art the only Lover of mankind.
Glory: Thou art the God who descended into hell, and who looseth the chains of the bound, / Givest rest to Thy servant himself.
And now: One pure and immaculate Virgin, who gave birth to God without a seed, / pray that their souls may be saved.

The general troparion of the Virgin Mary is the most famous
Troparion, kontakion, magnification - all this, of course, is in honor of the Most Holy Theotokos. After all, she is one of the most revered saints in Orthodoxy.
The most famous troparion to the Mother of God is the general troparion. Here is his text:
Troparion, tone 4:
Let us now diligently approach the Mother of God, sinners and humility, and let us fall down in repentance calling from the depths of our souls: Lady, help us, having had mercy on us, struggling, we are perishing from many sins, do not turn away your slaves, for you are the only hope of the imams.
Glory, even now: Let us never be silent, O Mother of God, in speaking Your strength to unworthiness: if You had not stood before us, praying, who would have delivered us from so many troubles; who would have kept them free until now? We will not retreat, O Lady, from You, for Your servants always save you from all evil ones.
Kontakion, tone 6:
The intercession of Christians is shameless, the intercession to the Creator is immutable, do not despise the sinful prayers of the voice, but advance, as the Good One, to the aid of us who faithfully call upon Ty; hasten to prayer, and strive to entreat, ever interceding, the Mother of God, those who honor Thee.
Another kontakion, the same voice:
There are no imams of other help, no imams of other hope, except for You, Most Pure Virgin. Help us, we rely on You, and we boast in You, for we are Your servants, let us not be ashamed.
The Troparion is easier to understand if you read its translation.
To better understand the content, it is useful to familiarize yourself with the translation of the troparion into modern language.
Troparion, tone 4:
Now we, sinners and humble ones, will diligently run to the Mother of God, and we will fall to Her, crying out in repentance from the depths of our souls: “Mistress, help, take pity on us, hurry up, we are perishing from many sins! Do not let Your servants go empty-handed, for in You we have our only hope!”
Glory, even now: We, unworthy ones, will never stop proclaiming Your power, Mother of God, for if You had not protected us with Your prayers, who would have saved us from so many troubles, who would have kept us free to this day? We will not retreat, Lady, from You, for You always save Your servants from all disasters.
Kontakion, tone 6:
The protection of Christians is reliable, the intercession to the Creator is unchangeable! Do not despise the prayerful voices of sinners, but come quickly, as the Good One, to the aid of us who call upon You with faith: “Hasten with your intercession and hasten your prayer, Mother of God, always protecting those who honor You!”
Another kontakion, same voice
We have no other help, we have no other hope, except You, Lady. Help us: we hope in You and boast in You, for we are Your servants; let us not be ashamed!
Along with the troparion, you can read prayers and magnifications.
The Greatness of the Blessed Virgin Mary
It is worthy to magnify Thee, the Mother of God, the Most Honest Cherub and the Most Glorious without comparison, the Seraphim. On the days of celebration, special magnifications are sung to the miraculous icons:
We magnify You, Most Holy Virgin, God-chosen Youth, and honor Your holy image, through which you bring healing to all who come with faith.
Prayer to the Most Holy Theotokos (Most Holy Lady)
Holy Lady Theotokos! We resort to You, our Intercessor: You are a quick helper, our never-ending intercessor with God! Most of all we pray to Thee at this hour:
help Your newly departed servant (Your servant) (name) to cross this terrible and unknown path; We pray to Thee, Lady of the world, by Thy power
from the fear-driven soul of his (her) terrible forces of dark spirits, may they be confused and put to shame before You; free you
from torturing the air tax collectors, destroy their councils and overthrow them as malicious enemies.
Be her, O All-Merciful Lady Theotokos, intercessor and protector from the airy prince of darkness, the tormentor
and the terrible paths of the stander; We pray to You, Most Holy Theotokos, to protect us through Your honorable robe, so that He may pass from earth to heaven without fear and without restraint.
We pray to Thee, our Intercessor, intercede for Thy servant (Thy servant) with Thy motherhood before the Lord with boldness; We pray to Thee, our Help, help him (her), who has the right to be judged even before the Last Judgment Seat, help
For be justified before God, as the Creator of heaven and earth, and pray to Thy Only Begotten Son, the Lord God and our Savior Jesus Christ, that He may rest the deceased in the bosom of Abraham with the righteous and all the saints. Amen.
Orthodox Life
Orthodox worship is clearly structured and consists of a certain sequence of different types of prayers.
Some of them are permanent, others are changeable. The latter include troparia and kontakion. These are short prayers that reveal the theological meaning of the holiday. The troparion is the basis, and the kontakion is its addition or revelation.
Thus, if we want to understand what exactly the Church celebrates on this day, we can familiarize ourselves with the content of the troparion and kontakion of the day of remembrance of an event in sacred history or a saint. The texts of troparions and kontakions for each day can be found in any Orthodox online calendar (for example, on the website days.pravoslavie.ru).
During the service, the troparion and kontakion of the holiday are read and sung repeatedly. For example, during Vespers - before the blessing of the loaves; at Matins - after singing “God is the Lord and appears to us” (troparion and kontakion), after the 3rd and 6th songs of the canon (kontakion); on the clock - after the psalms (troparia) and before the prayer “And for all time” (kontakion); at the Liturgy - after the Little Entrance and the singing of the beatitudes. During the Christmas service, it is not “Blessed” that is sung, but the troparion of the Nativity with lines from the psalms (selected psalms).
The Troparion of the Nativity dates back to the 4th century, the kontakion to the 6th century, so their language is quite archaic and while individual words are understandable, the overall meaning may not be so obvious.
Let's try to briefly analyze these texts.
Troparion of the Nativity of Christ, tone 4:
Thy Nativity, Christ our God, / the light of the mind of the world has risen, / in it, for those who serve the stars / learn from the star / to bow to Thee, the Sun of Truth, / and lead Thee from the heights of the East. // Lord, glory to You!
The oblique fraction in the texts of prayers means semantic pauses that are made when singing. The voice is, roughly speaking, the melody to which this prayer is sung. There are eight voices in total.
Thy Nativity, Christ our God, shine forth into the world the light of reason. Everything here is quite simple: in the Nativity of Christ, the light of reason (that is, knowledge, understanding, meaning) shone or opened for the whole world.
There are more stars in it who serve. We are talking about the Magi, Persian sages, who, according to legend, were astrologers and, while studying the stars, saw one special one in the east - Bethlehem. It was revealed to them that it testified to the birth of the King of the Jews. The Magi came to worship Him ( the star learned to bow to You and lead You from the heights of the East - they were taught by the star Who should be worshiped).
Sun of Truth. This phrase refers us to the Book of the prophet Malachi: “But for you who revere My name, the Sun of righteousness will rise and healing in His rays” (Mal. 4:2). This passage has always been clearly interpreted as a prophecy about the Messiah. Jesus Christ Himself says about Himself: “I am the light of the world; Whoever follows Me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” (John 8:12).
There is also an opinion that this phrase at one time began to be used, among other things, as a contrast to the cult of Mithras - the invincible sun. It is known that from the 3rd century. In the Roman Empire, December 25 was established as his feast day. It is believed that with the adoption of Christianity by Byzantium, the celebration of the Nativity of Christ was dedicated to this date in order to replace the pagan celebration and fill the symbolism of the Sun with Christian meaning.
Here it is worth recalling that according to the old style, Christmas is celebrated on December 25, therefore this date is justified in Orthodox sources. Our usual January 7th is a consequence of the transition of the civil chronology to the Gregorian calendar, while the Orthodox Church has consistently adhered to the Julian calendar for two thousand years.
In the Orthodox tradition, December 25 as the date of the Nativity of Christ is derived from the events of the Gospel. According to one of the ancient opinions, Christ was killed on the same day that he was conceived. In the year of the Savior's death on the Cross, the Jewish Passover fell on March 25, from which nine months were counted forward. This judgment was held in particular by St. Hippolytus (III century), St. John Chrysostom (IV century) and St. Augustine (IV–V centuries). Another calculation is based on the Nativity of John the Baptist. From the Gospel we know that the age difference between the Savior and His Prophet was exactly six months, from which simple arithmetic calculations again yield a day around December 25th.
Be that as it may, the accuracy of the date has little effect on the significance and reality of the holiday, so the difference in opinions is more of an informative nature.
Thus, in the troparion of the Nativity of Christ, through the interweaving of Old Testament prophecies, New Testament events and poetic images of light and heavenly bodies, it is said about Who is the true Meaning, Truth and Lord, worthy of worship.
Kontakion of the Nativity of Christ, tone 3:
Today the Virgin gives birth to the Most Essential, / and the earth brings a den to the Unapproachable, / Angels and shepherds praise, / the wolves travel with the star, / for for our sake, the Child was born, the Eternal God.
The kontakion succinctly states that the One born of the Virgin is not just a baby, but God incarnate. Divine properties are attached to Him: He is called the Transubstantial (i.e., existing always and first of all), Impregnable (i.e., inaccessible, unattainable) and Eternal (i.e., eternal, infinite).
Just like God, all nature brings worship to the Newborn: Angels and shepherds praise, wise men with gifts rush for a guiding star, and even the inanimate earth brings Him a cave ( nativity scene ).
An important emphasis is the mention that the child ( Otrocha Mlado ) was born for a specific purpose - “for our sake . In other holiday prayers this meaning is revealed more widely. Thus, in one of the stichera it is sung: “Let all creation rejoice and play, for Christ has come to renew us and save our souls” (Stichera on the stichera. The Nativity of Christ). All of God's creation is called to rejoice and triumph. Play translates as jump, dance, rejoice, rejoice. So joy is expected from us quite vigorously, befitting the scale of the occasion. After all, Christ came to earth to renew His creation and save us from corruption and death.
We wish everyone a Merry Christmas and wish you joy in the birth of the Lord. We too will rejoice and, within reason, play. And “in praise, let us cry out to Him: / Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, / for Thy coming is granted, // Our Savior, glory to Thee” (Stichera of the Feast. Nativity of Christ).
Christ is born! We praise Him!

Prayers
TROPARIA AND KONDACICS COMMON TO THE SAINTS
Troparion to the Theotokos, tone 4: Let us now diligently attend to the Theotokos, sinners and humility, and let us fall in repentance, calling from the depths of our souls: Lady, help, you who have had mercy on us: struggling, we are perishing from many sins, do not turn away your vain servants: for you and Imams have one hope.
Also: Let us never be silent, O Mother of God, thy strength to speak unworthy: if it were not for thou who stood before us, praying, who would deliver us from so many troubles; who would have kept them free until now? We will not retreat, O Lady, from you: for your servants always save you from all sorts of cruel ones.
Kontakion, voice 6: There are no imams of other help, no imams of other hope, except you, Lady: help us, we rely on you, and we boast in you: for we are your servants, let us not be ashamed.
To the bodiless troparion, voice 4: Heavenly armies of the archistratis, we always pray to you, we are unworthy, and with your prayers protect us with the shelter of the wings of your immaterial glory, preserving us who fall diligently, and crying out: deliver us from troubles, like the rulers of the highest powers.
Kontakion, voice 2: The Archangels of God, servants of the divine glory, the rulers of the angels and the human teachers, ask for what is useful to us and great mercy, like the bodiless archangels.
Troparion of the Prophet, voice 2: Thy Prophet, name of the rivers, memory, Lord, celebrating, we pray to you: save our souls.
Kontakion, voice 4: Your pure heart, enlightened by the spirit, the prophecies are the brightest friend: see that the real one exists far away, for this reason we honor you, blessed prophet, the name of the rivers, more glorious.
Troparion to the Apostle, voice 3: Holy name of the Apostle, pray to the merciful God that he may grant remission of sins to our souls.
Kontakion, tone 4: Like the bright star the church has always acquired, O apostle, the name of the rivers, your miracles, is enlightened by the abundance of your gifts. We also call to Christ: save those who honor by faith the memory of Your Apostle, O great mercy.
Troparion by the Apostle, tone 3: Holy Apostles, pray to the merciful God that he may grant remission of sins to our souls.
Kontakion, tone 4: The vine of Christ's grapes has appeared, wisdom, bearing clusters of virtues, pouring out the wine of salvation for us: we accept it as joyful fulfillment, we celebrate your honorable memory, in this age you pray to be granted to us great mercy, and remission of sins, Lord's apostles.
Troparion to the saint, tone 4: The rule of faith, and the image of meekness, self-control of the teacher, show you to your flock, even the truth of things: for this reason you have acquired high humility, rich in poverty, Father Hierarch, pray to Christ God for the salvation of our souls.
Kontakion, voice 2: Divine thunder, spiritual trumpet, the planter of faith and the cutter of heresies, the saint of the Trinity, the great saint of the name of the rivers, standing ever since the angel, pray unceasingly for all of us.
Troparion of the Holy Hierarch, tone 4: O God, our Father, always deal with us according to Thy meekness, do not leave Thy mercy from us: but through their prayers guide our life in peace.
Kontakion, tone 8: As a teacher of virtues, and an adornment of hierarchs, the church glorifies you by singing: with your prayers give to those who honor you love, correction of virtues, and deliverance from temptations, as if you are invincible.
To the venerable troparion, tone 8: In you, father, you know that you were saved, even in the image: for you have accepted the cross, following Christ, and in your deed you taught to despise the flesh; In the same way, the angels rejoice, O reverend name of the rivers, your spirit.
