Origin of the name Anastasia
Like many common names in Russia, Anastasia is also not of Slavic origin. Its meaning comes from Greece. After the adoption of the Orthodox faith in Kievan Rus, like the Greeks, many of their church names were adopted. So, Yaroslav the Wise had a daughter, Anastasia.
The meaning of the name Anastasia in Greek (anastasis) is “reborn” or “returned to life.” The shortened form Anastas is interpreted as “Resurrection.” This is an Orthodox name.
Cheerful girl Anastasia
What to give for Anastasia’s name day?
Products with natural stones: opal, emerald and fluorite will be suitable for them as a useful gift. In the plant world, jasmine is considered their talisman. Siamese cats are called totem animals; they are very capricious, secretive and majestic. Nastya likes small, sophisticated objects that are distinguished by soft colors and refined designs. This priority applies not only to clothing items, but also to household items. They love to decorate the interior of the house with a variety of paintings, figurines, and beautiful mirror frames. They are also attracted to living plants in the house, be it a tangerine tree, branchy vegetation or a potted flower. And of course, when they bring a gift, we must not forget about a bouquet of flowers, even if they are field daisies.
Anastasia character
The meaning of the name Anastasia predetermines many character traits. But so far, it has not been possible to fully study all the parameters of women named by this fabulous name. But the main thing was revealed - such people are driven by kindness and responsiveness. Nastya is positive, no matter how you look at it. Self-interest, envy and meanness are not about them. Only for them themselves such a character often turns out to be a bad thing. People around us mistake good nature for weakness and sometimes take advantage of this for their own purposes, in particular men.
Assertive girl
Nasten is also characterized by self-will and persistence. True, each Anastasia manifests these qualities to varying degrees - it depends on upbringing, the influence of external factors (astrological symbols, environment).
Childhood
All sorts of incidental situations often happen to girls named Nastya. This is not due to the fact that the child is problematic, but is very active and curious. In kindergarten, Nasten is loved by the teachers, and at school - she is in a special place with the teachers. This is understandable, since the girl is never aggressive, always positive and good-natured.
Wayward girl Anastasia
Already from early childhood, Anastasia differs from her peers in the following features:
- kindness;
- gaiety;
- positivity;
- impulsiveness;
- gullibility;
- responsiveness;
- perseverance;
- dreaminess.
Nastya’s life is never boring or stable – it is filled with vivid impressions and unpredictable events. But there are no problems either. So, a girl sometimes experiences suffering due to the lack of close friends. Nastya has difficulty finding mutual understanding with her peers, which is due to her leadership inclinations and inflexibility in her beliefs. She does not accept the superiority of others.
Separately, it should be noted that Nastya has suffered from poor appetite since childhood. In this regard, they cause concern to parents and grandmothers. They also have to be forced to clean their room; they do not show any personal initiative. Even as an adult, Anastasia is not inclined to run a household.
Teenage years
Teenage Anastasia is a representative of the weaker sex in full understanding. She still remains a dreamer, completely immersed in romantic thoughts. He is a kind, sympathetic, compassionate and at the same time determined person. And all this gives her the meaning of her name.
Anastasia knows how to fantasize
The presented list of character traits is far from complete. It can be supplemented with the following manifestations:
- devotion;
- hard work;
- exemplary study;
- kindness;
- excessive gullibility and softness.
The latter can be considered a disadvantage, since it often leads to betrayal on the part of supposed friends. But Nastya will not hold a grudge for a long time, and forgives everything. She is also characterized by self-sacrifice, even to the detriment of her own interests.
Adult Nastya
Having matured, Anastasia does not change much in character. However, this is no longer that good-natured and forgiving girl (girl). She becomes a strong-willed woman who knows what she wants to achieve in life. Ready to move towards the goal, but not “over the heads” of other people. She remains true to her moral principles.
Due to this type of character, Nastya rarely achieves great heights in her career or becomes a successful business woman. Since her youth, she has set a high standard for herself, which is more related to her rich imagination. But in reality everything is much more complicated. Therefore, it is difficult for her to choose a profession that she would like and would not tire her too much. But she occupies a certain niche in society, which is facilitated by her natural charm and sociability.
Emotional girl Anastasia
Nastys do not tend to approach matters practically; they are more guided by emotions. She does not know how to save money and often changes her place of residence and type of activity. She has the opportunity to become famous, but she does not achieve this for the sake of enrichment. Such women desire admiration and admiration for their person from others. And her chosen one should worry about the material side - almost all of Nastya think so.
Nastya’s favorite hobby is plant growing and floristry. She loves to create something unusual and beautiful. She also enjoys embroidery, cutting and sewing. She makes original gifts herself and presents them to loved ones unexpectedly, without any reason.

Taking Anastasia into custody
Then Anastasia herself was taken into custody. Diocletian was angry when he found out what the rich Roman woman was doing. He sent the priest Ulpian to persuade her to come to her senses and sacrifice to idols. But his attempts were in vain. Then he decided to desecrate the saint’s body, but as soon as he touched her for unclean purposes, he suddenly became blind. In fear, the priest ran for help to his idols, but on the way he fell and died.
Anastasia was imprisoned for two months. There they didn’t even give her bread. But Theodotia’s soul appeared to the saint and strengthened her in torment. So Anastasia survived.
Anastasia the Pattern Maker, Holy Great Martyr: Brief Life
The people dubbed the Pattern Maker a saint for her good deeds and help to persecuted and condemned Christians. The story of the life of Anastasia dates back to the 6th century.
Saint Anastasia was born in the 3rd century in Rome, where Christianity was prohibited. Her father Praetextatus was an ardent pagan and served as a senator for Emperor Diocletian. Together they brutally punished those who violated the ban. Despite this, the mother, named Favsta, was a believer and secretly raised her daughter in the love of God. After her death, the Christian Chrysogon became the girl's teacher. Under his guidance, she studied religion, read Christian books and became increasingly imbued with love for the Lord. Anastasia's father forced her to marry the pagan Pompilius. The girl avoided intimacy with her husband, wanting to preserve her innocence and purity. She was helped by a guardian angel who protected her from her husband’s lust.
Under the guise of a beggar, Anastasia visited the dungeon, where she washed, treated and fed the Christians imprisoned there. The slave who accompanied Nastasya betrayed her, telling everything to her husband Pompilius. He locked Anastasia in the house with guards. Her teacher was sent to prison. There he was executed for refusing to accept paganism. After the death of the girl's father, Pompilius wanted to receive her inheritance. He beat and tortured his wife every day, wishing her a quick death.
When Pompilius died, she donated all the money that Nastasya got to good causes. Having finally found freedom, the girl visited the house where the relics of her spiritual teacher were kept. Soon Righteous Nastasya met the Christian Theodotia. Together they helped the persecuted and needy. The authorities learned about their actions.
Emperor Diocletian ordered the execution of Blessed Theodotia. She and her children were burned at the stake. Anastasia was handed over to the chief priest of Rome so that he would force her to accept paganism. The girl was again subjected to torture and torture, but her faith was strong. The priest wanted to desecrate her, but, barely touching Nastasya’s body, he died.
They tried to drown Anastasia. She was sent out to sea in a leaky boat along with convicted criminals. Then Theodotia saved them. Appearing before the martyrs, she directed the ship to the shore.
Those who were saved believed in Christ and were baptized. But they were all killed, and Nastasya was executed at the stake. In 304, the Pattern Maker accepted martyrdom.
A little about the name
Anastasia is a name that is associated with resurrection and implies a bride who resurrects.
There is another interpretation, which has an even deeper meaning: life at the stage of rebirth.
The name was born in Ancient Greece. The state was filled with Amazon women. They were particularly belligerent. Their homes were located in the steppes of the Black Sea region. It was at that time that female warriors began to be called Anastasia.
But scientists, to reveal the origins of the name Nastya, dug even deeper. They turned to Western Semitic mythology. Experts discovered there the goddess of the hunt, who was a real warrior woman. They called her Anat. She was the sister of the god responsible for the fertility of the Earth, Balu.
Anat is a name that is very similar to the name of Anastasia. In the myths of Ancient Greece, the goddess is called a bride belonging to the people. The goddess Astarte is found in ancient Egyptian legends. She was recognized as the deity of love and fertility. Astarte was distinguished by her special services to the people, since her duty was the resurrection of the Earth. This ritual was carried out every spring, as soon as the snow melted. After him, she acquired special power sent from above, and gave a large harvest. All these facts indicate that Anastasia is a name derived from a deity.
Icon
On ancient icons, the Great Martyr is most often depicted with a cross in her right hand, which is a symbol of true faith. In her left hand, Anastasia the healer holds a vessel filled with oil. This healing oil was used in ancient times to heal bodily injuries and even treat fatal diseases.
Just as during her lifetime the Saint helped everyone in need, so now her icon helps everyone who sincerely asks for help. She is also the patron saint of those in custody. For example, a mother prays for the release of her son. Therefore, the requests of those whose loved ones and relatives are prisoners are especially beneficial. Anastasia does not leave without help those who are in prison and pray for a fair court decision and speedy release.
Miracle on the ship
It seemed to the torturers that the saint’s two-month hunger was not enough, so they decided to put her on a ship along with other prisoners. Having sailed quite far from the shore into the sea, they boarded a boat, having first made several holes in the ship.
The torturers were sure that the prisoners would die. But they did not know Anastasia’s faith. She began to fervently pray to God, and soon everyone saw Theodotia, who had already died, standing at the helm, steering the ship towards the shore. Thus, everyone was saved.
Seeing such a miracle, the unbelievers on the ship declared themselves Christians. They were immediately baptized by Anastasia herself, right on the ship. They all accepted martyrdom for Christ. There were one hundred and twenty of them.
Origin of the saint and childhood
Anastasia was born in the third century after the Nativity of Christ into a wealthy family. Her father was a senator in Rome. He was a convinced pagan, and my mother secretly believed in Christ. She taught her daughter the true faith . She named her daughter in honor of the Glorious Resurrection of Christ (Anastasia is translated as “resurrected”).
The mother found her daughter the best teacher in the city - Chrysogon. He was a Christian and later became a saint. Chrysogon taught the law of God and the Holy Scriptures. Anastasia grew up to be a smart, educated and quite beautiful girl.
A few more important dates
Among the days on which Anastasia’s name day falls, November 11 is interesting. On this date, Christians honor Anastasia Lebedeva, who was born in 1899 in the Yaroslavl province. In 1930, the girl’s husband died, and she was left with 3 children under her care. In 1932, Nastya was delegated the powers of the head of the council at the church located in the village. Guzhevo. In 1937, under Soviet rule, a woman was arrested for her Christian faith and was imprisoned in a camp. During the war she died under unknown circumstances while in custody. In 2000, the Russian Orthodox Church decided to classify Anastasia Lebedeva as a saint.
Anastasia of Thessaloniki is a martyr, whom Orthodox Christians also venerate on November 11th. At the age of 3, the girl lost her parents. After this, she was sent to be raised in a monastery near Rome, for which she was later called the Roman. There she became a monk. During the reign of Emperor Decius, paganism was zealously revered. When the girl turned 21, she was forced to renounce the Christian faith and make a sacrifice to the pagan gods. She refused to carry out the order, for which she was executed.
December 17 is the day of the angel, on which Anastasia Titova is revered. She was born in 1895 in the Moscow province. When the girl was 22 years old, she went to the monastery of Dmitrievsky district. In 1927 it was closed, which is why Nastya had to return to her village. There she was reading the Psalm in a nearby temple. In 1937, the Bolsheviks accused her of agitation against Soviet power. This was followed by an arrest and she was sentenced to 8 years in a camp. That same year, a woman died while in a correctional colony. In 2005, the Russian Orthodox Church canonized Anastasia. December 26 is another date when Anastasia’s name day is celebrated.
What you can and cannot do on January 4
Saint Anastasia was considered the patroness of innocently convicted women and women bearing children. Therefore, on the day of her memory, they asked her for the speedy release of the innocent and the safe birth of her children.
On January 4, pregnant women were embroidering a special towel, which they then took to the birth, handing it over to the midwife.
Apart from embroidery, pregnant women were not allowed to do any other work. They had to eat whole grain porridge throughout the day to gain strength and protect themselves from illness.
It was considered a bad omen to walk anywhere barefoot.
Extra care had to be taken all day. They believed that even a small wound received on January 4 would take a long time to heal.
Animals had to be treated with care. Those who offended pets could face severe punishment. The animals were given the leftover food from the table, so that they themselves would not starve all year.
It was forbidden for Anastasia to have her ears pierced because of the risk of getting an infection.
The child should not be left alone in the room. They were afraid that evil spirits would come to him.
It is also forbidden to sort things out and use foul language. There was a possibility that they would not make peace until at least spring.
On January 4, we began to actively prepare for Christmas. Men could slaughter a pig, women prepared the first courses.
There was a special attitude towards dreams on this day. They were afraid that what they saw in nightmares might come true, so immediately after waking up the dream was written down on a piece of paper, which was quickly burned.
