Two close friends, Vasilisa and Anastasia, lived in Rome in the 1st century.
During one of the sermons of the apostles Peter and Paul, they accepted Christianity and did not betray their faith until their death. From 54 to 68, Emperor Nero reigned in Rome. He carried out brutal persecution of Christians, tortured them to renounce their faith, and in case of disobedience, he executed the martyrs. Vasilisa and Anastasia buried the bodies of the dead according to Christian canons. For this, the emperor ordered them to be imprisoned. Soon Vasilisa and Anastasia were tortured for their faith. But they were able to withstand all the torment and retained their faith in Jesus Christ. For this, in 68, women were beheaded.
The Day of Remembrance of the Martyrs Vasilisa and Anastasia is celebrated on April 28. You can still venerate their relics today in the Church of Our Lady of the Pacifier, which is located in Rome.
During the reign of Emperor Decius (about 251-258), severe persecution of Christians continued. They covered all ancient cities, including Corinth. Here the mission of exterminating Christians was entrusted to the military leader Jason.
The tormentor was informed that in the desert not far from the city there lived a Christian Kondrat, whom hundreds of people came to listen to. Among them was young Vasilisa. For their faith in the Lord, Kondrat and his disciples accepted martyrdom. At first they were given to wild animals to be eaten, but they did not touch the believers. Then they were beheaded with a sword.
The name days of Vasilisa and the rest of the Corinthian martyrs are celebrated on March 23 and April 29. On this day the church remembers their names.

It is known that in the third century Rome was ruled by Emperor Diocletian, who in turn carried out various persecutions of those people who believed in Christianity.
However, from historical data, every person on the planet knows that in those days the largest amount of innocent blood was shed in Nicomedia. It was in the ancient city that Diocletian issued a decree that it was necessary to behead the heads of approximately 17,000 Christian believers.

It was at that time in Rome, namely in the ancient city of Nicomedia, that a little nine-year-old girl, whose name was Vasilisa, suffered. At that moment, Hegemon Alexander ruled the city and it was he who carried out the trial over the nine-year-old girl.
Initially, he suggested that Vasilisa renounce her faith in the Almighty and bow to paganism, but the girl did not lose faith and remained true to her principles. Vasilisa entered into an argument with Hegemon Alexander and told him about the Most High Jesus Christ.
After a while, Alexander said that at that moment he had the impression that it was not a small nine-year-old child who was talking to him, but an already mature adult.
Historical information says that Vasilisa was subjected to various torments and tortures many times. Some claimed that initially she was only hit in the face.
Other witnesses claim that she was tortured with rods all over her body until it was completely covered with peculiar ulcers.
After which the little nine-year-old girl Vasilisa was hung up by her feet, so that her head was down, and a high fire was lit under her. Witnesses claim that at that moment no one could have harmed Vasilisa, not fire or animals, nothing could have killed the little girl.
Then Hegemon Alexander, who was the ruler of the ancient city of Nicomedia, fell at the feet of Vasilisa and began repentance. Subsequently, after some time, the hegemon believed in the Almighty and Christian believers performed the rite of baptism, thus he left paganism.
Some time later, the ruler of Nicomedia died, and the little girl Vasilisa left the city. At that moment, she was walking through an almost deserted land, as a result of which she felt thirsty, but there was no stream nearby, so she stood on a low stone and asked the Almighty to send her water to drink and quench her thirst.

At the same second when the girl finished offering her prayer, water began to flow from the stone on which she was standing in the form of a fountain. Vasilisa got drunk, lost her thirst and died.
Many witnesses claim that it was near this stone, where the girl got drunk, that she was subsequently buried, since her body was found by the bishop some time later.
The Day of the Angel Vasilisa of Nicomedia is often celebrated on September 16, since historical data states that it was on this day that the little girl gave her own innocent soul to the Almighty.

The holy martyrs Julian and Vasilisa were from the Egyptian year of Antinous. They both came from noble, wealthy families, and at the insistence of their parents they soon became husband and wife.
Despite this, Julian and Vasilisa remained deeply religious people. They devoted themselves completely to the Lord, did not enter into intimate relationships with each other, and maintained their innocence. After the death of their parents, Julian and Vasilisa founded male and female monasteries and became their abbots, taking monasticism.
In the 3rd century, during the reign of Emperor Diocletian, believing spouses were captured and imprisoned. They were subjected to severe torture several times, but were able to endure all the torment. Julian was even able to convert the son of his tormentor Kelsius and his wife Marionilla, as well as several other pagans, to the Christian faith. Soon Julian, Vasilisa and other martyrs died by the sword.
Vasilisa's name day is celebrated on January 21. On this day the church also remembers Julian, Kelsius, Marionilla and other martyrs who were beheaded by the sword in 313.

Christians who did not renounce their faith were tortured, thrown into a ditch with wild animals, dragged tied by their feet to carts, and finally beheaded. During the time of Emperor Nero, there lived two sisters who were converted to Christianity by the apostles Peter and Paul. They, contrary to the ban, buried the murdered Christians according to church rites, for which they paid with their lives, and after cruel torture they were killed. One of the sisters was the holy martyr Vasilissa of Rome.
On September 16, the martyr Basilissa of Nicomedia is honored. The Nicomedia ruler Alexander himself, a witness to the righteous life and martyrdom of the girl, who, through her feat of loyalty to God, brought many people to Christianity, was amazed at the strength of the holy girl and the mercy of the Lord over her.

Seeing miracles during which a nine-year-old girl emerged unharmed from a fire and a cage with hungry tigers, Alexander himself accepted faith in Christ. The miracle was that the wounds received during the torture instantly disappeared, which infuriated the executioners, but in the end they left the girl alone and she died peacefully.

Nine-year-old Vasilisa was also injured in Nicomedia. She was brought to trial before Hegemon Alexander, who ruled the city at that time. He suggested that Vasilisa renounce her faith in the Lord, but the girl remained adamant. She even got into an argument with Alexander and spoke about Jesus Christ as if she were not a child, but an adult.
Vasilisa was subjected to martyrdom several times. First they beat her in the face, then with rods all over her body, and when it was completely covered with ulcers, the girl was hung upside down by her legs and a fire was lit under her body. But neither fire nor fierce animals could kill Vasilisa. Then the ruler of Nicomedia fell at her feet and began to repent. After this, he believed in the Lord and was baptized.

Soon hegemon Alexander died, and Vasilisa left the city. One day she felt thirsty, stood on a stone and asked the Lord for water. At that very moment a fountain began to gush out of the stone. Vasilisa drank the water and immediately passed away. Near this stone she was buried by the bishop who found her body.
The name day of Vasilisa of Nicomedia is celebrated on September 16th. On this day, the martyr gave her innocent soul to God.
