The biblical text divides the descendants of Adam and Eve into two branches - Cainites and Sethites, listing their genealogy in detail (Genesis 4:17, 5:32). The descendants of Cain died during the Flood, thus all humanity ascends to Seth and his son Enos (Heb. Enosh - man). The Old Testament author, describing the genealogy of the Adamites, does not consider it necessary to explain who the wives of the sons of Adam and Eve were. Therefore, a natural question arises, where did the wives of the children of our forefathers come from?
Brothers' story
The story of the brothers is probably known to everyone; it tells about the life of the first people, the children of Adam and Eve outside paradise, as well as about the first murder, betrayal and deception. According to the Bible, Cain became the first murderer on earth, and his brother Abel was the first murdered victim.
Cain and Abel brought gifts to God, the fruits of their labors. Abel respected and loved God, so he brought gifts from a pure heart. But Cain did not love God, so his gifts were not gracious, he gave them because it was necessary. Then the Lord rejected Cain’s sacrifice, realizing that it was not given from a pure heart.
Cain became embittered with his brother, because the Lord loves him more, so he thought. Then he killed his brother with a stone. The killer tried to hide his sin, thereby only making the situation worse. God hoped that Cain would repent and realize his sin, then he would be forgiven, but this did not happen.
Because of the murder, the elder brother was cursed and banished to the land of Nod. God deprived him of his strength, and so that he would honestly bear his punishment, he made a sign that said that anyone who deprived Cain of life and torment would be cruelly avenged.
This story has come down to us in 24 different interpretations, it is described in detail in the Book of Genesis, chapter 4. The oldest version of the retelling of the story of the life and death of Cain and Abel dates back to the first century BC. It is recorded in the Kurman manuscripts.
Some scholars connect this story with ancient Sumerian tales, which tell of quarrels between farmers who tended and improved the land year after year, and herders who roamed the fertile lands to feed their livestock.
History of the Patriarchal Church. Patriarchs of the human race
When people multiplied on earth, the sons of God (descendants of Seth) began to be seduced by the beauty of the daughters of men (daughters of the descendants of Cain) and took them as wives. Because of this, all people were corrupted. Then God said: “People will not despise My Spirit forever; they have gone astray and become carnal. I will give them a period of repentance of 120 years.”
At that time there were giants (giants, attackers) on earth, which especially began to be born from the time the sons of God began to marry the daughters of men. They further increased wickedness, corruption and wickedness on earth. When God saw that the corruption of people was great and that the earth was filled with atrocities from them, he was grieved and decided to destroy people, and with them livestock, creeping things, and birds.
At that time there was a righteous and blameless man, Noah. He had three sons: Shem, Ham and Japheth. God told Noah: “The earth is filled with evil deeds from people. I will destroy them from the earth. Make yourself an ark50 with a hole at the top51 and a door on the side. Arrange lower, second and third housing in it. Resin it with resin inside and outside. Behold, I will bring a flood of water on the earth to destroy every living creature on the earth. But I will establish my covenant with you: and you and your sons and your wife and your sons’ wives will come into the ark with you. Also bring into the ark animals of all kinds, the clean52 in sevens, male and female, and the unclean in twos, male and female53. Stock up on all kinds of food.” And Noah did everything that God commanded him.
At the end of the six hundredth year of his life, Noah, with his family and animals, entered the ark54. God closed the ark behind them55. On the same day, heavy rain fell on the ground and rained for forty days and forty nights; and the waters of the deep sea rushed onto the land. The water covered all the mountains and rose 15 cubits above the highest mountains56. Everything living on earth died. Only Noah and those with him remained in the ark, which floated on the waters. The waters rose above the earth for 150 days. Then God brought a wind to the earth, and the water began to subside. The Ark stopped on the Ararat Mountains. The tops of the mountains appeared. 40 days after this, Noah opened the window of the ark and released a raven. The raven flew off and flew to the roof of the ark. Seven days later, Noah released a dove. The dove did not find a dry place and returned to the ark. After another seven days, Noah released the dove again. The dove returned with a fresh olive leaf in its mouth, and Noah knew that the water had receded from the earth. After waiting another seven days, Noah released the dove for the third time, and it never returned to him. When the earth dried up, God commanded Noah to leave the ark with all those who were there with him57.
Upon leaving the ark, Noah built an altar, took from all clean livestock and from all clean birds and offered a burnt offering to God. God was pleased with this sacrifice, and He said in his heart: “I will no longer curse the earth for the sins of man, and I will no longer smite all living things. Henceforth, as long as the earth stands, sowing and harvest, summer and winter,58 days and nights will not cease on it.” And God blessed Noah and his sons and said: “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth. Let all the animals fear and tremble at you, and let them be in your hands. Let everything that moves and lives be for you to eat, like green herbs; just don't eat blood59. I will require your blood too. Whoever sheds human blood, his own blood will be shed, for man was created in the image of God.” And God made a covenant60 with Noah and his descendants, that there would be no more flood, and as a sign of this covenant he placed a rainbow in the cloud. (Genesis 6, 7, 8, 9, 1 – 17.)
Noah was a type of Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world, and the ark was a type of the Church of Christ, in which alone people are saved.
Who did Cain and Abel marry?
If there were no people besides Adam and Eve and their children, then who did the brothers marry, how did peoples and nations emerge from one family? According to one version, Cain’s wife was his sister Avan, and according to another, his wife was Sava, who was born with him, also his sister.
It is known that Cain had a son, Enoch, and his father named the previously founded city in his honor. Cain's family lasted for 7 generations, the family was interrupted later, which they did not survive.
Based on the Enoch manuscripts, it is believed that the spirit of Abel haunted the family of his brother. Abel, deprived of his life by his brother, became a martyr and complained against Cain and his entire family until he died out.

Vampires
The name Cain (Hebrew, more common English version: Cain), according to the Bible, was borne by the eldest son of Adam, who killed his brother Abel and was cursed for this. In the medieval tradition, all kinds of monsters and ghouls were believed to descend from the biblical Cain (for example, in the Anglo-Saxon epic poem Beowulf, the monster Grendel is a descendant of Cain), and in the modern setting for the tabletop role-playing game Vampire: The Masquerade, all vampires are descendants of Cain, the first vampire. Among Russian-speaking fans of Legacy of Kain, the variant “Kane” is also in use - according to the English pronunciation of the name Cain/Kain.

Kain - Heir of the Balance!
Once upon a time, in the gloomy and dark kingdom of Nosgoth (English: Northgot), there lived a true nobleman, the valiant knight Cain. He lived without harming anyone, leading a philistine, measured life. No one and nothing could see what the outcome of events would be for this man, but this is not the end - this is the beginning, the beginning of a new era of Nosgoth!
Nothing foreshadowed trouble, however, one day, unexpectedly for everyone, Cain is killed by bandits. His life on earth was cut short... However, the carnal world is only one of many in the universe! Once in the afterlife world of spirits, he meets the Necromancer Mortenius - the lord of death, one of the keepers of the columns of balance, who invites him to return to the world of the living in a new incarnation, in the embodiment of fear and hatred itself - a vampire! Driven by a thirst for revenge, Cain accepts the offer.
Thus began his new life, which would change the entire history of the kingdom.
Having killed his executioners, the hero understands that he will never have the same life again, because he is no longer a human, but a vampire. The living soul of a vampire could not come to terms with the oppression of people, and the dead body needed fresh blood. In agony, the hero tries to understand the world more deeply...

He has no idea where the path he has entered will lead him. Who will he become in his new life, how will he be used for his own purposes, and what will all this lead to.
Cain's path was difficult and long before he met Mortenius again. The necromancer told the hero that Cain's true killer was still alive, and directed him to the Columns of Nosgoth, where Cain was to learn his destiny. He came to the balance columns, where he met the ghost of the main guardian - Ariel, who was vilely killed by the possessed guardians. According to her, the only way to lift the curse of vampirism is to destroy the remaining members of the Circle of Nine - a clan of guardians who lost their minds with the death of Ariel. In his wanderings, Cain will soon find an ancient artifact, the most important symbol of history (the game) - an ancient sword forged by the most ancient vampire, the first converted by Janus Audron himself (the first-born Vampire), Vorador - the Soul Reaver.
Taking the sword, he meets its creator, Vorador, who advises him not to interfere. However, his words did not have the desired effect on Cain. Having found the time lord Mobius, one of the guardians, he will make his first time travel, going back fifty years. His target is King William the Righteous, who in the future will become the tyrant Nemesis. However, Cain had no idea that this murder would lead to a brutal war between humans and vampires.
Imagine his despair when he found himself at the public execution of the last of his kind - the race of vampires. People joyfully greeted every cry of the killed vampire, and Mobius executed Vorador with his own hands and raised his head above the jubilant crowd. Cain realized how cruelly he had been deceived. Mobius saw through time, and knew the causes and consequences of any actions, thereby easily manipulating even the most powerful of this world!
Now the last of the vampire line, Cain decides to take revenge on his traitor. At the same time, he learns that the bandits who killed him were sent by Mortanius! Again “a knife in the back”, and the bitterness of deception...
When Kain killed all the guardians, he realized that in order to restore the Columns and order in Nosgoth, he needed to sacrifice himself. After all, it was Cain who was destined to take the place of the keeper of the balance!
He found himself faced with a difficult choice for himself, although such a thing would stupefy anyone... After the experience, his dark essence strengthened in Cain, slowly and surely from a noble knight, he turned into a “fallen angel” of his world. He abandoned self-sacrifice and became the sole guardian of the pillars of balance, and the representative of his race, which was mercilessly slaughtered.
As a result of this act, Cain decided to create his own world, his own kingdom - in which Vampires will rule!
A thousand years have passed, a long time, during which generations of people have changed, but not vampires, because they are immortal! He began his conquest of the world by creating assistants - vampires just like himself. Cain opened the ancient tomb of the Sarafan religious brotherhood. Having penetrated the underworld, the hero captured six souls and turned them into lieutenants of his newborn empire - Melchiah, Zephon, Raziel, Rahab, Dumakh, Turel. He called them his sons, and gave each one to rule over a part of his kingdom. These were the main generals. Over time, his plan succeeded, the human race was broken, and only a few managed to survive this war. He hated people, although he was once a man himself...
However, despite the fact that time had passed since the time of the young vampire, and he was already wiser from experience, he was more restrained - the dark side took over his mind, overshadowing everything. With each cycle, vampires gained new abilities and talents. Unfortunately, Kain's main assistant, his "right hand" Raziel, is the first to acquire a new ability than Kain himself. Now he can fly, graceful wings rising from his back. But Cain could not cope with envy, he did not understand how this could happen, because he created everything, why not he first? Approaching Raziel, he tore out the bones from the wings, and ordered his brothers to throw the wounded Raziel into the abyss of darkness. If only he knew then that with this act he would open a new era, which had already become his kingdom, the long-suffering Nosgoth!

Raziel
Years passed, centuries... the kingdom began to be engulfed by misfortune, vampires mutated into terrible, distorted creatures, the Sarafan brotherhood was gaining strength, and somewhere nearby, his “favorite son” – Raziel – was already hatching his plan for revenge!
Seeking revenge for his death, because of which he became something more than a simple vampire, he became the living embodiment of the sword, at the behest of the ancient god, living on the “wheel of life” - the absorber of souls. Killing his time-warped brothers, he finds out where Cain is. When Cain saw him again, he was dumbfounded, because he could not imagine how this could happen. Gradually, Cain brings his new enemy to a one-on-one battle. At the Columns, Kain raises a magical sword - the stealer of souls - at Raziel. The ancient sword, indestructible, according to legend, broke when Cain struck Raziel. The soul-devouring power contained in the sword burst out and poured into Raziel, finding unity with the former vampire. Thus, Raziel took possession of the astral projection of the great sword, the secret of its origin was lost a long time ago. From this moment on, the blade becomes the hero's eternal weapon. This is how the story of the third main character of the game gradually reveals itself. Yes, yes, without exaggeration, this can be said about a soul stealer who has his own will and a sense of hunger. He overtakes Cain in the temple of the keeper of time - Mobius. Cain turns on the portal, which
throws him and Raziel into Nosgoth's past.

Kain Character Biography
In his run, Cain begins to understand that everything that happened was a fatal mistake, but he does not yet suspect that the prophecy about the heir to the balance has slowly begun to come true!
Having met Raziel on his travels, he does not even try to fight him. Cain tells his former “son” that fate can be changed: “Fate is like a coin that always lands on one side or the other, but if you throw the coin many times, one day it will land on its edge.” Now Raziel begins to doubt that Kain's death will stop the destruction of the Columns and save Nosgoth, although the thirst for revenge haunts the hero.
Raziel's wanderings will lead to many riddles and answers; at the end of his journey at this stage, Kain will meet him again, but this time with different intentions. After searching for Janos' heart, Raziel kills his brothers with more people, and himself - the soul stealer pierces him too. At this moment, the realization that his fate had come full circle in time. That is why the Pillars' sword broke when Kain struck Raziel - “the sword could not absorb its own soul.” Raziel realizes that he and the soul stealer are one. And when the hero was almost overtaken by death, Cain appears. He pulls the sword from Raziel's body, thereby snatching him from the clutches of death. “The coin fell on its edge” - the story of Nosgoth was changed again...
Another five hundred years passed... Cain understood that he needed to track down and find his manipulators in order to find answers to all the questions for which fate had treated him so cruelly. He no longer wanted enmity with Raziel, probably he just came to him with exactly the experience that he had so lacked all these centuries. Having found Mobius, he tries to find out what is the essence of everything that is happening, and where Raziel is. Mobius tried to scare Cain by saying that by sparing him then, he had signed his own death warrant, because Raziel would not give up his thirst for revenge.
Traveling through the world of Nosgoth and time, they both find frescoes, one of which spoke of a prophecy and the curse of vampires. Kain learns that there was once an ancient Hylden race that was driven out of this world, and the pillars were a lock for their return. In return, they cursed all vampires with the curse of immortality! Yes, yes, precisely by the curse, their souls were cut off from the “wheel of life”, they became barren... the once aristocratic race slowly went crazy and turned into bloodthirsty monsters. Many committed suicide, unable to bear the eternal life that burdened their souls.
Another depicted a battle between two heroes from each race, one won in one, and the other won in another. The third showed a single vampire hero with a flaming soul absorber, but Cain did not yet understand how much these frescoes would change him and the world.

When Kain crossed paths with Raziel again, he tried to explain everything to him, he did not want a battle, and no longer saw him as his sworn enemy. But Raziel was still obsessed with his thirst for revenge, especially since he learned that Kain was created with the help of the heart of Janos, the heart of darkness, which he needed. A great battle has begun between two antipodes, two great warriors - who do not even suspect that they are one!
Raziel kills Kain and rips out his heart. Cain will discover the afterlife world of spirits.
Raziel revives Janos, but soon something terrible will happen, the columns engulfed in destruction will fall in a matter of seconds. The ancient Hilden race is free, one of them will inhabit the body of Janos and enslave him. Raziel will fall...
Having escaped from the afterlife, Cain discovers that he is now beyond Mobius' manipulations. Having found him in the ancient temple, Mobis was no longer able to resist, and Cain kills the traitor who served the Ancient False God, who sat on the “wheel of life” and satisfied his hunger.
Raziel realized all the betrayal of Mobius and Mortenius, the insidious manipulations of the false god, he realized that only by sacrificing himself, uniting with the sword, would he save Nosgoth. Possessing Mobius's corpse, he speaks with Cain. Touching the sword, he began to merge, Cain did not want this, only now they both realized how stupid their enmity was, how stupidly they had been manipulated all this time. Kain wants to find a way out, but Raziel interrupts him: “This is the only correct way out! And remember - I am not your enemy, I am still your son, brother, your “right hand”! Now you will see a true traitor...” He said with his last breath, finally completing the merger with the sword.
The prophecy has come true! Before us stands the Heir of Balance, with the flaming Soul Reaver! Now they are united - two destinies destined to become one and save Nosgoth!
Cain saw the False God, and severely wounded him in battle, the temple is destroyed, he leaves, hoping that the False God will never try anything again.
Arriving at the vampire citadel, Cain sees destroyed columns. Now all the masks have been torn off, the true “puppeteers” have been found. He received two greatest gifts, the first was the sacrifice of his "brother" Raziel, who sacrificed himself for victory, and the second exceeded all his expectations. He received a piece of that “terrible illusion”, whose name is Nadezhda! Hope to correct your past mistakes, hope to restore peace and balance to Nosgoth!
Cain is a man who has gone through imaginable and unimaginable paths in life, becoming absolute evil, from a valiant knight. Having received many betrayals, having gone through anger and arrogance, he gained the experience that made him the greatest philosopher of that world, the most skilled warrior, and a devoted friend... Two destinies became one, which should erase all the troubles and sins of the past, restore the once great kingdom . Cain is that hope...

How Cain died
There are several versions of the circumstances due to which Cain lost his life. According to the first, he lost his life in his own house, was buried under stones when his house collapsed. He was killed by what he used to kill his younger brother.
According to the law of justice, the evil that we commit to our neighbors will return to us several times stronger. When he died, according to some legends, he was 860 years old.
According to another version, he failed to escape the flood. The scriptures say that every year God sent him trials as punishment for his sin, and saved him from water and flood many times. But during the global flood, God had mercy and allowed Cain to die so that he could finally find peace.
The third version is associated with his descendants. There is a legend that Cain was killed by his relative Lamech; he was blind, but loved to hunt. When hunting, he took his son with him, who guided his hands towards the prey. Cain had horns on his head, so from afar between two hills, the boy mistook him for an animal and pointed his father’s weapon in his direction.
The arrow reached its target, when they approached, the boy said that he was mistaken and Lamech recognized his ancestor from the description. Then he killed the boy with his clasped hands.
How to prevent a flood again?
For a Christian, the death of civilization from the Flood reminds him of the reason for the punishment. In chapter 9, God promises that he will no longer send floods that can destroy all life, but people remember that the Creator punishes sinners.
In order for God not to subject people to such punishment, one must follow His will.
The rainbow covenant means that humanity will definitely live to see the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, who will judge everyone. But it must be remembered that humanity can be overtaken by punishment of a different nature.
Adam, Eve, Cain, Abel, Seth, Noah, like all mortals, sinned. We need to learn from their fates. Humanity in our time is faced with a choice: God or Satan. Every person is endowed with free will, so he must make his own decision.
People who choose corruption, hatred and life without God will regret it when the time of Judgment comes. The global flood reminds us of the inevitable punishment for all sinners.

The land where Cain found refuge
After God cursed Cain, he went to the land of Nod, which was east of Eden. Some interpreters who have tried to connect Nod with the lands known to us suggest that it could be India.
There is one legend that says that God sent Cain to the moon so that he could observe from there all the joys of earthly life, but could not touch or feel them. On a full moon, if you look closely at the moon, you can discern the silhouette of Cain killing Abel.
What changed after the flood?
All sinners perished during the flood. The waters of the flood cleansed the entire earth. Therefore, no one could harm Noah’s righteous family. Some theologians argue that after this punishment the climate changed. They refer to the fact that after the flood, for the first time, the Holy Scriptures speak of winter and summer.
And also, according to the Bible, the life span of people has been shortened. There is a hypothesis that the natural conditions before the Flood were such that people could live ten times longer than now. Other theologians argue that after the Flood there were changes in human genetics.

- Is there evidence of biblical events in extra-biblical written sources? Answer
Wife
If we now base ourselves entirely on Scripture, without any personal prejudices or other extra-biblical ideas, then in the very beginning, when there was only the first generation, brothers should have been able to marry sisters, otherwise there could be no continuation sort of!
We are not told when Cain married, and no details are given about other marriages and children, but we can certainly say that some brothers early in human history had to marry their sisters.
The Last Adam
God found a solution - a way to deliver man from his miserable situation. Paul explains in 1 Corinthians 15 that God gave us another Adam! The Son of God, in addition to his full divinity, also accepted human nature, becoming the perfect God-man - Jesus Christ. As a man, He was a descendant of Adam (through Noah, Abraham and David)—thus He became our relative! He is called “the last Adam (1 Corinthians 15:45) because he took the place of the first Adam. He became the new head and, because He was sinless, He was able to bear the penalty for sin:
For just as death is through man, so is the resurrection of the dead through man. Just as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. (1 Corinthians 15:21-22) [8] |
Christ suffered death (the punishment for sin) on the cross, shedding His blood (“without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness” Hebrews 9:22) so that all who repented of their sin of fighting against God and trusted in what He did on the cross could be reconciled with God.
Since the Bible says that all people except the God-man Jesus are sinners, and we are all related to each other (“Of one blood He made the whole race of mankind to dwell upon all the face of the earth” Acts 17:26), the gospel makes sense, only if all people now living and who have ever lived on earth descended from the first man Adam.[9] If this were not so, the gospel could not be explained or defended.
The Book of Hebrews details that Jesus took on human nature in order to save mankind (Hebrews 2:11-18).
Thus, only the descendants of the first man Adam can be saved.
Biological distortions
Today, siblings (and half-siblings, etc.) are not allowed to marry because their children are at an unacceptably high risk of deformity. The closer the parents are related to each other, the more likely it is that their offspring will be abnormal.
There is a very easy to understand and very serious genetic reason for such laws. Each person has two sets of genes, with approximately 130,000 pairs of them, that determine how the human body is designed and functions. Each person inherits one gene from each pair from each parent. Unfortunately, today there are many errors in the genes (due to sin and the Curse), and these errors manifest themselves in many ways. For example, some people let their hair grow long enough to cover their ears to hide the fact that one ear is lower than the other, or someone's nose may not be exactly in the middle of their face, someone's jaw may be slightly irregular, etc. d. Let's honestly admit that the main reason we call each other normal is because we agreed to be so!
The further the parents are related, the more likely it is that errors in their genes will differ. Children who inherit one set of genes from each parent can end up with a maximum of one damaged gene in each pair. A good gene tends to overpower a damaged one so that distortion of the organism (at least serious) does not occur. Instead of completely distorted ears, for example, a person may have crooked ears! (Although in general the human race, generation after generation, as errors accumulate, degenerates).
However, the more closely related the parents are, the more likely it is that their genes will contain the same errors, since they were inherited from the same parents. Therefore, a brother and sister are at greater risk of having the same errors in their genes. A child from a marriage between a blood brother and sister could inherit the same defective gene in the same pair of genes from both, resulting in two defective copies of the gene and leading to serious defects.
Adam and Eve had not yet accumulated genetic errors. When the first pair of people were created, they were physically perfect. Everything God created was “very good” (Genesis 1:31), so their genes were perfect—without any mistakes! But when sin entered the world (because of Adam—Genesis 3:6, Romans 5:12), God cursed the world, and the perfect creation began to disintegrate, that is, to undergo death and decay (Romans 8:22). Over thousands of years, this decay has produced all sorts of genetic errors in living organisms.
Cain belonged to the first generation of children born. It was practically impossible for him (and his brothers and sisters) to inherit imperfect genes from Adam and Eve, since in the beginning the consequences of sin and curse should have been minimal (it takes time for copying errors to accumulate). In this situation, brother and sister could marry with God's approval without the risk of producing deformities.
By the time of Moses (several thousand years), degenerative errors could have accumulated among the people to such an extent that it was necessary for God to prohibit consanguineous marriages (Leviticus 18-20).[12] (Besides, at that time there were already quite a lot of people on earth, and there were no reasons forcing them to marry close relatives).
