Who is the temple dedicated to?

The Church of the New Martyrs in Strogino is dedicated to people who accepted torment, persecution and even death in the name of God. Biblical stories about those who suffered for the Orthodox faith are familiar to many, but when creating the community and laying the foundation of the temple, we were talking about heroes of recent history, almost about our contemporaries. The first churches of the Christian faith were erected near the graves of ascetics and guardians of the faith and bore their names. The twentieth century dealt harshly with the church and many deeply religious people; their names and exploits became an example of service to faith and the Fatherland.

Base

This is interesting! The temple in Strogino was built at the time when the first Christian shrines were erected. They were laid in the places where martyred witnesses were laid to rest and buried. Such sacred places are called martyria. The year 2000 was marked by the glorification of the martyrs at the bishops' council.

According to the official website of the temple in Strogino, the beginning of its construction dates back to 2010. The decision on the feasibility of founding a sacred monastery was made in 2006.

The church was built on the basis of the capital's OMON (Mobile Special Purpose Detachment) temple. One of the thoughts with which the construction was organized was to perpetuate the memory of the soldiers of special units that are part of the police structure.

The decisive role was played by the opinion of the leadership of the Moscow riot police and the SOBR (special rapid response unit) of the GUVD (Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs). Also, the ever-memorable Patriarch Alexy II took part in the founding of the shrine, who blessed the construction of the Temple of Confessors and Martyrs in Strogino on February 23, 2007.

Important! Subsequently, the foundations of the Temple of Dmitry Donskoy were consecrated. After 5 months, construction of the temple vaults began. At the end of October 2012, the consecration took place. The service was led by Archbishop Mark Yegoryevsky. He is the curator of the North-West Vicariate.

Architecture

The Church of the New Martyrs in Strogino is still under construction, but its extraordinary architecture is already arousing interest and delights with Old Russian motifs. The building of impressive size looks very light, thanks to the snow-white color of the walls, carved and keel-shaped elements. According to the project, it will accommodate 650 people, the height of the church is 48.5 meters, and the total area is more than 700 square meters.

The church consists of four gradually tapering tiers, the uppermost serving as a belfry with a light drum topped with an onion dome. Three semicircular apses adjoin the main room. The author of the project, architect Alexander Pronin, drew ideas and style from the era of Tsar Ivan the Terrible. To replicate some of the decorative elements of that time, almost every brick was hewn individually, by hand.

Building style

Architect Pronin, in creating the project, relied on the artistic traditions and rules of church construction in Rus' during the reign of Ivan the Terrible. The structure looks like white lace thanks to the four floors of kokoshniks, each of which is unique. The tiers narrow and smoothly move into the belfry. To form this shape, the builders processed each brick by hand. Three asps are covered with a semi-vault and are adjacent to the main building.

Jerusalem pilgrims brought part of the remains of Princess Elizabeth and Barbara to the temple, and later images of these great martyrs were donated.

Construction assumes 20 thousand inhabitants per church. This program is financed through charitable donations and voluntary contributions.

The program was conceived in order to provide large areas of the capital with churches within walking distance. Most churches are built in residential areas of Moscow, but some of them are built in places where churches once stood.

The site itself will be determined by the Moscow Committee for Architecture and Urban Planning.

The average cost of building one church for 500 parishioners is about 300 thousand rubles.

At this stage, the main work has been completed in 25 churches, three of which are located on the territory of the Novomoskovsk administrative district.

Over the twenty centuries of the existence of churches, many Christians have suffered martyrdom. We can reach out to many people whose lives ended in the struggle for Christ.

But people suffered the most in the 20th century, and only in the Russian Orthodox Church.

After the October Revolution there was a persecution of Christians in Russia

After the October Revolution, there were a lot of atheists in the country who came to power. At this time, great persecution and mass repression began against citizens who did not agree to renounce their religious beliefs in order to preserve their own lives.

The victims were ordinary Orthodox people, and not only. In these persecutions, priests, monks, and all those who remained faithful to the Lord and the Orthodox Church became victims.

The new Russian martyrs were subjected to humiliation and insults. They constantly endured unjust oppression, becoming like Christ himself during these torments.

It was through their donations that the living saints proved their love and devotion to God. The temple in Strogino is named precisely in honor of these sufferers.

The Church of the New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia has two chapels. The upper church was consecrated in honor of the New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia. The holiday is celebrated in the temple after February 6th.

The lower temple is dedicated to the Royal Passion-Bearers. This is Nikolai and his family. They are commemorated on July 17th. What happened to these people?

As many people know, on the night of July 16-17, 1918, a terrible thing was done: in Yekaterinburg, in the basement of the Ipatiev House, Nicholas the Emperor, his families and loyal people were shot.

The autocratic tsar and his family were shot by the Bolsheviks, who wanted to seize supreme power, create a democratic state, and distribute power to the people and workers.

However, there were other reasons for this; the Soviet government wanted to undermine the foundations of Rus', laid down by our ancestors in our political system, which was based on the Orthodox faith, on theocracy.

The day of remembrance of these martyrs allows us to see how it is possible for a person to follow Christ and always be faithful only to Him, despite life’s sorrows and difficulties.

After all, what the Royal Martyrs suffered for goes beyond the boundaries of our human understanding. As much as they had to endure, only a humble heart, which is completely devoted to God, can bear a heavy cross.

Also in the Church of the New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia there is a third altar, which does not have its own chapel. It is in honor of the Feodorovskaya Icon of the Mother of God. Celebrated on August 29.
