History of the temple
The history of the Church of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary dates back to 1635, when a monastery was built by order of Tsar Mikhail Fedorovich Romanov, the first ruler of the Holy Romanov family. The name Pokrovsky was given to the monastery on the occasion of the death of Father Mikhail, who died on the feast of the same name.
In that place there used to be a cemetery where homeless people and vagabonds were buried, people who had no one to bury. People began to call the monastery Bozhedomsky, because wanderers and beggars found shelter and consolation there. Further, in 1655, the first Church of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary was erected near the monastery. During the war with Napoleon, in 1812, the temple was occupied by French officers, and in particular Count Michel Claparède. In 1855, the temple was rebuilt again, almost from scratch. From the former ancient temple, only 1 wall and dome pillars remain.
After the October Revolution, when the persecution of Christians began, the communists occupied the territory of the temple, in which various institutions were organized, from a printing house to a film studio.
And only in 1994, Patriarch Alexy II returned the temple to the Russian Orthodox Church. In the same year, the monastery was declared a women's monastery. The remains of Saint Matrona Nikonova were transferred to the temple in 1998, exactly a year later Matrona was canonized and canonized. Since then, the Church of the Intercession of the Virgin Mary is also known as the Church of Matrona of Moscow.
Architect and exterior decoration of the temple

The Intercession Monastery, which is the main architectural object of the complex, has several strategic extensions, including the Church of the Matrona of Moscow. There are three temples on the territory. Matrona of Moscow in Orthodoxy
The future righteous woman was born in the 1880s. in a peasant family. She was blind from birth, and her parents thought of leaving her in an orphanage, since they had many children. However, the mother had a prophetic dream and it was decided that the girl would live with her family.

Not having her own roof over her head, she lived wherever she had to. The last years of her life she lived in the Moscow region.
Every day she communicated with a very large number of people, listened and helped them, some with advice, and some she completely healed. Every night I prayed for them.
Matrona predicted her death three days in advance and prepared for it, but until the last day she hosted people, trying to help everyone.
She died on May 2, 1952. The funeral service was performed in the Church of the Deposition of the Robe by Archpriest Nikolai Golubtsov. The funeral took place two days later, and a huge procession of believers saw her off on her final journey. On March 8, 1998, the grave was opened, and the relics were transported first to the Moscow Danilov Monastery, and then to the Intercession Church on the territory of the Intercession Monastery.
Soon after this, it was decided to make March 8 the day of the Holy Blessed Matrona of Moscow. Six years later she was canonized by the Russian Orthodox Church.
