Church of the Resurrection of Christ in Sokolniki: opening hours, schedule of services, address and photo

If you want to visit the past, go to a museum; if you want a breath of spiritual atmosphere, go to a temple. And if you have both, you can choose the Church of the Resurrection of Christ in Moscow Sokolniki . Here everything is mixed in one bottle: the history of the 9-domed building that survived the destruction of churches, which was once popularly called “Kedrovskaya”, the unusual orientation of the altar to match the style of the entire temple, the history of numerous images and soloists of the blind choir. Every stone seems to speak inside, inviting you to listen to its life story.

Shrines

You can go to the Church of the Resurrection of Christ as if you were on a museum excursion - in the same way you will get tired of bending your fingers over the number of local relics. Moreover, the number of remains of martyrs and saints clearly prevails over the number of icons on display.

  • The “Healer” icon , which changed several monasteries from the 18th century, until it remained in the Church of the Resurrection of Christ in Sokolniki. Behind this copy of the ancient image of the Mother of God, which is kept in Georgia, there is a long list of miraculous cures for serious illnesses.
  • Bogolyubskaya Icon of the Mother of God , taken from the Varvarsky Gate of Moscow, where it was located under Peter I. It is believed that this image also heals and protects from diseases.
  • The Iveron Icon of the Mother of God is a copy of an icon of the royal family brought from Mount Athos in the 17th century. Also called the Goalkeeper and Moscow patroness.
  • The Passionate Icon of the Mother of God comes from the 17th century, transferred from the Passion Monastery specially built for her. Also miraculous and healing.
  • More than 40 images are dedicated to the Mother of God: there are “Softening Evil Hearts”, Tikhvinskaya, Kazanskaya, Kasperovskaya, Fedorovskaya, Smolenskaya, “Quick to Hear”, “Assuage My Sorrows”, “Pokrov”, “Joy of All Who Sorrow” (with pennies) and others.

Architecture

Church of the Resurrection of Christ in Sokolniki.6 July 2014

It has an orientation that is unconventional for Russian churches, associated, according to legend, with the desire of the chairman of the construction committee, Archpriest I. Kedrov, to turn the apse to the south, towards the earthly homeland of Christ. The building is one of the most interesting religious buildings of Moscow of the Art Nouveau era, in the architecture of which the forms of the neo-Russian style received a clearly individual interpretation. The composition of the church, raised on a basement, is based on the constructive scheme of a four-pillar cross-domed church. Its central part is crowned by a slender tent-shaped octagon, along the diagonal of which there are 4 small domes. The wide sleeves of the planned cross of the temple are completed with large scalloped zakomaras, and the lowered corner cells are completed with cupolas on cylindrical drums. The nine-domed completion of the building emphasizes the expressive dynamics of the volumes growing upward, giving the silhouette of this large, monumental structure the exquisite fragility so characteristic of Art Nouveau. In front of the entrances to the church, from the north, east and west, there are ceremonial porches with gable ends (there is currently a bell tower in the western porch). The creation of the image of the temple, focused on examples of ancient Russian architecture, is facilitated by keel-shaped kokoshniks at the bases of the chapters, arched perspective portals decorating the entrances and high slit-shaped windows. The interior is a spacious, well-lit 3-nave space. In the side naves there are chapels of the icon of the Mother of God “Joy of All Who Sorrow” and Peter and Paul, in the basement there is a chapel of the Nativity of Christ. Wonderful iconostasis and floor icon cases made of bog oak are made in the spirit of eclecticism. The area adjacent to the church with a fence and clergy houses occupies a small block in front of the main entrance to the Sokolniki recreation center. In the surrounding urban environment, represented by modern multi-storey buildings, the church building is the most important architectural accent, especially impressive from the alley leading from the Sokolniki metro station to the park.

The Old Russian style of construction combined with modernity and eclecticism - the Church of the Resurrection of Christ looks quite modern.

It’s unusual to look at the bells without lifting your head up - here it is located below, on the porch.

Large icons also decorate the facades of the temple; this one, for example, depicts the scene of the resurrection of Christ.

Dear brothers and sisters!

We hope for your help in improving our temple. In the lower church it is necessary to design and install historical iconostases in the central and side chapels, and also to find means for painting icons for the iconostases of the upper and lower churches. In addition, we need to start arranging the interior on the first and second floors.

As you know, the mayor’s office has restored the Church of St. Job of Pochaev, which is located on the southern side of our large Temple. This is the only temple in Moscow dedicated to this great saint of Southwestern Rus'. Immediately after the completion of the work, we began Divine services here, but now it is temporarily closed due to the construction of a white stone iconostasis. And here we also need your help: in completing the work on the iconostasis, arranging the interior, and maybe, if God bless, painting the ceiling and walls.

Our Temple was built by pious merchants in the 17th century. It has gone through various restructurings and alterations. It burned down in 1812, was restored in the middle of the 19th century, and was used for other purposes during the difficult times of godlessness, especially after its closure in 1934. In the 1960s it was adapted for Grabar's workshops. By the beginning of the 2000s, it was in a dilapidated state of disrepair. After 2004, its revival began. And quite recently, the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation carried out repair and restoration work, thanks to which the temple was transformed, but, unfortunately, many unresolved issues remained, the main ones of which we have just announced.

So let us help the whole world in the improvement and beautification of the Temple, which has been preserved and transformed after more than three centuries.

May the All-Merciful Lord God help all people who donate to the temples of God, who work and serve in the Church of the Lord!

Where is it and how to get there

The Main Temple of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation is located on the territory of the Patriot military park, also recently built and located near the city of Kubinka, Odintsovo district, Moscow region, at the 55th kilometer of the Minsk highway. If you drive in the direction of Moscow along the Minsk Highway, the cathedral and park are located to the right of the road.

How to get from Moscow by train

  1. From the Belorussky railway station, or subsequent stations (Begovaya, Testovskaya, Fili, Slavyansky Boulevard, Kuntsevo...) to the Kubinka-1 railway station. Further from the station to the park there are free buses No. 7 and No. 8 (Attention! As of July 2022, they do not operate yet). You can get there from Kubinka by taxi, the cost is about 300 rubles, the ride takes 10 minutes.
  2. You can get to the Golitsyno railway station, then take minibus No. 48P (it takes about 25-30 minutes by minibus) to the Sector C stop. The minibus runs approximately once an hour, until 18:30. The fare is 70 rubles. In order to get to the buses, you need to cross the railway tracks (to the left, standing in the direction of the arrival of the train).

Judging by the reviews, it is more convenient to get there by public transport not from Kubinka, although it is closer, but from Golitsyno. But if you don’t mind spending money on a taxi, especially if you’re traveling with a group, then you’ll most likely get there faster from Kubinka.

For information, the cost of tickets for an adult on the train:

  • Belarusian - Golitsyno: 120 rubles;
  • Fili - Golitsyno: 72 rubles;
  • Belarusian - Kubinka: 168 rubles;
  • Fili - Kubinka: 120 rubles;

How to get from Moscow by car

Follow the Minsk highway up to 55 km. There will be an exit to the bridge with signs “Patriot Park”, “Main Temple of the Armed Forces”. There is parking on the territory of the park, the cost is 200 rubles. per day (the first hour is free), entry and exit from the parking lot using parking tickets.

When planning your trip, consider the traffic situation. During the warm season, traffic on the Minsk highway towards the region is difficult on Friday (even starting from Thursday). After Golitsyno and all the way to Kubinka, road construction is underway; there are many narrowings. Therefore, if you leave on these days, you run the risk of not getting there quickly and spending an extra hour on the road.
