World Usability Day
World Usability Day is celebrated annually on the second Thursday of November. For the first time such a holiday was celebrated in 2005. It is devoted to the issue of ensuring such quality as usability in various fields of activity, i.e. practicality and ease of use. On the holiday, usability-related events are usually held.
“Usability” is a term derived from the English word usability, meaning “ease of use.” Usability is closely related to the concept of “ergonomics,” but the latter is usually applied to technical objects, and the former to web design and network surfing. However, both concepts are equally important in modern life and are used to determine the degree of effectiveness of various objects in performing their functions.
As stated in the World Usability Day Charter, technology should improve lives, not add stress or create danger through poor design or poor quality. Therefore, the organizers of this holiday consider it their duty to ensure the efficiency, effectiveness and reliability of technology. However, they note that this is especially important for people with disabilities, because technology can improve their lives, allowing them to fully participate in work, social and civic events.
Anastasia Ovechnitsa
According to legend, these events took place in the third century. Anastasia was born into a family of noble Romans. When her parents died, she was still very young. The girl had no relatives, so the women's Christian community took over her upbringing and guardianship. The mentor of this community was Elder Sophia. The girl was raised in Christian traditions. Upon reaching the age of twenty, Anastasia began preaching Christianity among the pagans. It is known that Anastasia was a very beautiful girl. Many representatives of the Roman nobility came to ask for her hand in marriage, but no one received consent.
At that time, Christians were subjected to severe persecution by Emperor Decius. The fame of the beauty and preacher reached the mayor of Provo. Anastasia was captured and brought to him for trial. After the girl refused to renounce her faith, bow down and sacrifice to pagan idols, Prov sentenced her to painful torture. Despite the terrible torment and torture, Anna remained faithful to Christ and continued to pray. For this, the city governor ordered her tongue to be cut out and beheaded.
World Shopping Day
It all started in 2009, when the online platform “Alibaba Group” from China carried out a marketing move called “World Shopping Day”, holding a sale on its resources (and in particular in the online store AliExpress.com) with 50% discounts. were the norm.
The organizers planned that this event would become an annual event, when a significant discount offered to the user, the size of which “is impossible to refuse,” would thereby turn him into a buyer. And they were not mistaken; other large Chinese Internet platforms very quickly joined this initiative.
Shopping Day, in its essence, is a day of big discounts provided on a wide variety of goods by the owners of the largest Chinese Internet sites. Today it is contrasted with the famous “Black Friday”, when customers are given a rare opportunity to purchase goods with significant discounts, although, in essence, it is the same thing.
Avid shopaholics anticipate the start of sales in advance. Many highly sought-after items fly off the shelves or from websites in a matter of minutes. The number of purchases made on Shopping Day is in the millions, and sales reach the entire planet. Therefore, if shopping is your thing, join this holiday.

Church Orthodox holidays November 11
Venerable Martyr Anastasia of Rome
Homage to the memory of Saint Anastasia, raised by the abbess of a convent. She was tortured and beheaded for her faith in Christ under the emperor Decius.
The Venerable Martyr Anastasia the Roman lost her parents in infancy, and the abbess of the convent, Sophia, took her under her protection. The abbess raised Anastasia in ardent faith, in the fear of God and obedience. At that time, the persecution of Christians by Emperor Decius (249-251) began. Mayor Prov, at the order of the emperor, ordered Saint Anastasia to be brought to him. Blessed to suffer a feat of suffering for the Name of the Lord by her elder mentor, the young martyr Anastasia humbly went out to meet the armed soldiers. Prov, seeing her youth and beauty, first tried to seduce her with flattery and force her to renounce the faith of Christ:
“Why are you wasting your years by depriving yourself of pleasures? What profit is it to give oneself to be tortured and die for the Crucified One? Bow down to our gods, you will have a noble husband, live in glory and honor.” The saint firmly answered: “My husband, my wealth, life and my joy are my Lord Jesus Christ, and through fear of torment you will not separate me from the Lord!”
Brutal torture began. The holy sufferer bravely endured them, glorifying and chanting the Lord. Enraged, the executioners cut out her tongue. The people, seeing the inhumane abuse of the saint, were indignant, and the rulers of the city were forced to stop the torture by beheading the martyr. The body of Saint Anastasia was thrown outside the city to be devoured by wild animals, but God did not allow the holy remains to be mocked. Abbess Sophia, notified by the Lord, found the tortured body of the venerable martyr and, with two Christian assistants, buried it.

St. Abramius the recluse and blessed Mary, his niece
Dedicated to Saint Abraham, who led an ascetic life for 50 years, and his niece, who had the gift of healing illnesses.
Blessed Mary was the niece of the Monk Abraham the recluse. They labored in Hidan, which was located near Edessa. Their compatriot Ephraim the Syrian later wrote about the life of the righteous.
At the dawn of his life, the Monk Abraham began his feat of solitary living. Having left his father's house, Saint Abraham settled in a deserted place far from human temptations. He spent more time in prayer. He asked his relatives to distribute his inheritance, which he received after the death of his parents, to the poor. He was meek and philanthropic, so many people sought to come to him wanting to receive a blessing and learn the Lord’s Prayer. Abraham was appointed to be a presbyter in one of the pagan villages in Mesopotamia. This was a special test for Abraham.
For three years he tried to enlighten the pagans. The Monk Abraham destroyed the pagan temple and built a temple of God in its place. He calmly endured all the insults and beatings from the evil idolaters.
Abraham constantly repeated:
“Look, O Master, upon Thy servant, hear my prayer, strengthen me and free Thy servants from the bonds of the devil and grant them to know You, the One True God.”
And it was granted to him - the pagans began to believe in Jesus Christ. The monk himself baptized all those who believed.
After doing a good deed, he returned to the desert and there continued to glorify the Lord God. But the devil tried to seduce him with pride after his victory. During another prayer, he heard a voice that said: “Blessed are you, blessed like no other man!” But Abraham said that he was an ordinary sinful man who prayed for salvation and the help of the Lord and that he was not afraid of the devil. Another time, a young man appeared before Saint Abraham and began to sing the psalm: “Blessed are those who walk blameless in the way of the law of the Lord.” Abraham understood that these were the machinations of demons and, crossing himself, the elder asked: “If you know that the blameless are blessed, then why are you bothering them?” To which the devil replied that he was annoying in order to turn people away from a good deed. Then the monk said:
“You gain victory over those who apostate from God of your own free will, but from those who love God you disappear like smoke from the wind.”
After these words, the devil disappeared. This is how the Monk Abraham defeated the enemy. For fifty years the Monk Abraham served a good cause and led an ascetic life. He quietly went to the Lord God.
This blessed one had a brother, who had an only daughter. When her father died, the girl was left orphaned. Her friends took in this orphan and brought her to her uncle when she was seven years old. The blessed one ordered her to stay in the outer cell, while he himself lived secluded in the inner one. Between both cells there were small doors, through which he taught his niece the psalter and other books. The young woman, like him, labored in fasting and prayer and in all the monastic virtues. The blessed one many times with tears prayed to God for her, so that she would love the Lord and not tie her heart to the vanity of the world. Her father left her a sufficient fortune, which at the same hour when she was brought to him, the saint ordered to be distributed to the poor. The girl begged her uncle like this:
- Father, pray to God for me, so that I will get rid of all the various devilish networks.
In her monastic life, she was like her uncle in everything, and the elder, seeing her good deeds, tears and humility, silence, meekness and love for God, rejoiced at this. For twenty years she spent the night with him, like a pure lamb, like a good dove. But at the end of the twentieth year, the devil, in order to catch her and in this way offend blessed Abramius and turn his mind away from God, laid a net on the path of her salvation.
At that time there lived one monk who only had a monastic name, and not exploits. He came to the saint, under the pretext of receiving instructions from him. Seeing blessed Mary through the door, he was inflamed with an unclean passion for her, and his heart burned like a flame from an insane passion for her. So he was fueled by lust for about a whole year, until, finally, with the help of Satan, one day he opened the doors of her cell and, entering her, deceived and desecrated her. After committing the sin, the girl was horrified, and, tearing her clothes, began to beat herself in the face and, out of sadness, even intended to take her own life.
She reasoned with herself like this:
“I sinned and died in soul and ruined my life; The monastic feat, and my abstinence, and my tears did not serve any purpose, since I angered God, destroyed myself and plunged my reverend uncle into bitter sadness. I have been mocked by the devil, why should I live longer, cursed? Woe is me! what have I done? Woe is me! What have I come to? I didn’t even notice how dark my mind was and how I died! Some kind of dark darkness has covered my heart, and I don’t know what I will do and where I will hide? Where will I go, what ditch will I throw myself into! Where is the teaching of my reverend uncle and where is the instruction of his friend Ephraim. They told me:
- Pay attention to yourself and keep your soul undefiled for the immortal Bridegroom, for He is holy and will overcome in righteousness. From now on I will no longer dare to look up at heaven, for I have died for God and people. I also cannot stay here, for how can I, a sinner full of uncleanness, begin to talk to that holy father again? If I dare, the fire coming from those doors will burn me. I’d rather retire to another country, where there will be no one who knows me, because once I died, then after this there was no longer any hope of salvation for me.
Immediately getting ready, she retired to another city and, changing her appearance, stayed at a hotel. When this happened to her, blessed Abramius had a vision. He saw a terrible and terribly huge snake, disgusting in appearance, breathing rage, which crawled up to his cell, and having found a dove, swallowed it and returned to its place again. Having awakened from sleep, the blessed one was greatly saddened.
Two days passed after the departure of the blessed one, during which Abramius saw the aforementioned vision. Maria lived without her uncle for two years, and he prayed to God for her day and night. After two years, someone told him where she was and how she lived. The saint begged one of his acquaintances to go to that place to find out more about her. The messenger went and, having learned about Mary, returned and told everything to the blessed one. Having heard what was said, the blessed one dressed himself as a warrior, put a large and very high hat on his head so that it covered his face, took with him one gold coin and, mounting his horse, rode off. He came to the hotel where Maria lived, and grinning, said to the hotel keeper:
- Friend, I heard that a beautiful girl lives with you, show her to me.
The host, seeing his old gray hair, laughed at them in his heart, because he realized that he was asking about her for the purpose of fornication, and answered:
- Indeed, such a girl lives with me, and she is very beautiful.
The blessed one was indeed quite beautiful. After this, the elder said with a cheerful look:
“Invite her to my place so I can have some fun today.”
And when Mary was invited, she came to the elder. As soon as the saint saw her in her harlotry, he wanted to burst into tears. But so as not to be recognized by her, and so that, having recognized him, she would not run away from him, he, although with difficulty, restrained himself from tears. As they sat and drank, this wonderful husband began to flirt with her, and she, getting up, hugged him and began to kiss his neck. While she was kissing him, she felt the fragrance emanating from his body, pure and slain by many deeds. Then, remembering the first days of her abstinence, she sighed, shed tears and said:
“If I had died earlier, I would have been happy.”
Blessed Abramius, so that Mary would not recognize him, said to her in a rude voice:
“Only now, when you came to me, did you remember your sins.”
Taking out the coin, he handed it to the hotelier and said:
- Friend, give us a good feast so that we can have fun with this girl.
Oh, how much wisdom he had, how much spiritual intelligence!
A man who, during the fifty years of his monasticism, did not eat enough bread or drink enough water until he was full, now, in order to save his lost soul, eats meat and drinks wine. In heaven, the ranks of holy angels were amazed at such a feat of the blessed father.
When they entered the bedchamber, Abramius saw a large bed, laid high, sat down on it and said to Mary:
“Maiden Mary, come here to me.”
As she approached, he grabbed her, held her tightly so she wouldn't run away, and kissed her again. Then, taking off his military cap from his head, he burst into tears and said to her:
“My child, Maria, don’t you recognize me?” Wasn't it I who raised you? What happened to you, my child? Who ruined you? Where is your angelic image that you had, my child? Where is your abstinence and your tearful cry? Where is your constant vigil and prayerful reclining on earth? It’s as if you have descended from a heavenly height into a ditch, my child! When you sinned, why didn’t you tell me so that I could take on the feat of repentance with my beloved Ephraim? Why did you do this, and why did you insult me and plunge me into such terrible sadness? Who is without sin except God alone?
Listening to this, Maria was in his hands like a soulless stone, afraid and ashamed at the same time.
“Child, let your sin be on me, may God take away your sin from my hands, just listen to me, go and shut yourself up in your cell again.” God and Ephraim pray for you. My child, have mercy on my old age, I beg you, my life, come with me.
“If you are sure,” she answered, “that I have the opportunity to repent, and that God will accept my prayer, then I will go and fall to your reverence and kiss the soles of your holy feet, because you were so merciful to me and came.” here in order to take me away from this unclean life.
“I have some gold and clothes here,” said Maria, “how will you dispose of all this?”
“Leave everything here,” said the blessed one, “because this is dishonest property.”
And immediately getting up, they left. Having placed Mary on a horse, Abraham led him, and he himself walked in front of her. He walked rejoicing; like a shepherd who finds a lost sheep and joyfully takes it on his shoulder (Luke 15:4-5), so the blessed one walked with joy in his heart. When he came to his place, there he again shut Mary up in the inner cell, where he had previously labored, but he remained in the outer cell. Mary, in hair sackcloth, meekly calling on God for help, repented with great zeal. Her repentance and prayer were such that our repentance and our prayer in comparison with them are like a shadow and mean nothing. And the merciful God, who did not want anyone to perish, but for everyone to come to repentance, had mercy on His truly repentant servant and forgave her her sins.
As a sign of her forgiveness, He gave her the grace to heal the illnesses of those who came. Blessed Abraham lived another ten years; Seeing Mary’s great repentance, her tears, fasting, labors and diligent prayers to God, he was comforted and glorified God. After this he died in the Lord. He died at the age of seventy. Almost the entire city gathered at the hour of his repose, and everyone approached his honest body with zeal, and the sick received healing.
After the repose of her uncle, Christ’s lamb Mary lived in great abstinence, beseeching God day and night, for another five years; those living there, passing by at night, many times heard crying and immeasurable sobbing and, stopping, were amazed and glorified God. Thus, having truly repented and pleased God, blessed Mary reposed in peace, and now, after tender tears, joyfully rejoices with the saints in the Lord, to Him be glory forever.
Holy Blessed Mary helps to find peace in the souls of repentant people.
Venerable Abramius, Archimandrite of Rostov
Feast of Saint Avramius (birth name - Averky). Founder and rector of the monastery in honor of the Epiphany. He was the Rostov archimandrite.
The Monk Avramiy, Archimandrite of Rostov, in the world Averky, left his parental home from a young age and embarked on the path of Christian asceticism. Having accepted monasticism, Avramy settled in Rostov on the shores of Lake Nero. There were many pagans in the Rostov land at that time, and the monk worked hard to spread the true faith.
Not far from the saint’s cell there was a temple where the pagans worshiped the stone idol of Veles (Volos), which struck fear into the inhabitants of Rostov. In a wonderful vision, the holy Apostle John the Theologian appeared before Abramius and gave him a rod topped with a cross, with which the monk crushed the idol. On the site of the idol temple, Saint Avramius founded a monastery in honor of the Epiphany and became its abbot. In memory of the appearance, the monk erected a temple in the name of the Apostle John the Theologian. Convinced by Saint Abramius, many pagans were baptized. His influence on children was especially great: he taught them to read and write, instructed them in the law of God, baptized them, and tonsured them as monks. The saint received everyone who came to the monastery with love.
His life was a daily feat of prayer and labor for the benefit of the brethren: he chopped wood for the bakery, washed the clothes of the monks, and carried water for the kitchen. The monk reposed in old age and was buried in the Church of the Epiphany († 11th century). His holy relics were found under the Grand Duke Vsevolod (1176-1212). In 1551, Tsar Ivan the Terrible, before his campaign against Kazan, toured holy places. In the Epiphany-Abramiyev Monastery they showed him the rod with which the Monk Avramii crushed the idol of Veles. The king took the staff with him on the campaign, but left the cross in the monastery. Returning after the conquest of the Kazan Khanate, Ivan the Terrible ordered the construction of a new stone church in honor of the Epiphany with four chapels in the Abrahamic Monastery and sent books and icons there.
