How does reading an akathist to the holy martyr Tryphon help?

Images of St. Tryphon

And today, Orthodox Christians from the bottom of their hearts, in the name of the memory of the Holy Martyr Tryphon, ask the Lord for help.
And they believe that it will come down to everyone, as the martyr of Christ, Tryphon of Pechenga, asked the Lord and received a blessing for that. The face of Saint Tryphon depicts a young, handsome youth, dressed simply, holding a cross and a vine in his hands. There are other versions of the image - the young man is depicted with a bird on his left hand and a cross in his right. There is also a well-known icon in which Tryphon of Pechenga rides on a white horse guarded by an Angel. Such a number of faces emphasizes the truth that the miracle worker worked incessantly during his life for the good of people, and continues to do so now, sacredly believing in the power and protection of the Lord God.

It is definitely recommended to have one of these images in your home. It will not be difficult for you to download it from any Internet resource.

The icon with the original image of Saint Tryphon of Pechenga is located in the Trifonovsky Church in the village of Naprudnoye, in the Tver region. The icon is decorated with a precious reliquary, which contains a particle of holy relics.

Many Orthodox Christians know about this true Saint and pray at his icons:

  • about expelling an unclean spirit;
  • about patronage in illness and infirmity;
  • about pain relief;
  • about liberation from hopelessness;
  • about finding a good job;
  • about employment;
  • about getting out of a series of failures;
  • about assistance in solving housing problems;
  • about a successful marriage.

Prayer and akathist at the image of the Great Martyr Tryphon open the way to a happy and prosperous life. Through the efforts of the Saint, all the good desires of a believer are fulfilled. He hears everyone.

When turning to a saint

Modern man faces a variety of problems. Some people want to regain their health, others cannot get out of debt, others are experiencing heartache. And many other things happen that seem to us to be a disaster. The prayer to Saint Tryphon, as the clergy say, is offered when problems and troubles occur in the service. If confidence in your strengths or abilities is melting or enemies are surrounding you, as it seems, then you need to go to the Temple. And the saint’s church is located on Trifonovskaya Street (Moscow). Now the temple is small, cozy, white stone. And before the revolution, the building was large and noticeable. Two of its aisles were blown up. But the temple dedicated to the great martyr could not be completely destroyed. Of course, not everyone will be able to go to this particular church. Then look for the icon of the Great Martyr in any other place. Turn to her with your troubles.

Text of the prayer chant

Praise to the Saint (akathist) is written in the form of a narrative sermon (kontakion) and chants (ikos).

It is much easier for a modern person to say or listen to a prayer in the name of the Lord and his holy companions in a more understandable dialect. Therefore, we suggest reading the akathist for Tryphon of Pechenga here in accessible Russian.

You turned many to the path of salvation , just like the one in whom the Lord allowed a demon to move into the king’s daughter and torment her cruelly, plunging her into fire and water.
You cured the suffering of the Tsareva’s daughter and assuaged her ailments. Then the powerful healers of this world, unable to do anything, agreed in their inability. And only Tryphon could drive away the devil with the command of God. And they found him in Kompsad. And they asked him to go to Rome to drive out the devil and heal the girl. Those who saw this marveled and said: We rejoice, Tryphon, for you, who put the devil to flight, who showed that the devil is powerless before your work.

And having fasted himself and prayed to the Lord for six days, on the seventh he came to the king and his people and called: “In the name of my Lord Jesus Christ, appear here and show your demonic image, prove your powerlessness...”.
And so it was. And everyone saw the ugly demon and were surprised at the faith of the saint, crying out: We rejoice, Tryphon, whom demons cannot disobey, that at your command even unclean souls appear.

Tryphon, who by the power of God commanded the devil to confess as a Christian, having the holy Orthodox and Apostolic faith.

Tryphon, it was said that demons tormented only those who follow sinful lusts and do things pleasing to the devil.

The wicked Roman king Decius ascended the throne and Christian blood was shed. The time has come when the holy martyr experienced suffering for his great faith, his love for God, thereby overthrowing the enemy and instructing many who saw those torments, rejoicing and also suffering the passion and singing - Hallelujah.

  • Ikos 7

Just as a mountain cannot shelter you from hail , so it is impossible to shelter you, holy martyr, from the persecution of Christians by King Decius.
For you showed no fear of Christ by confessing, but by the power of the word you converted many to Christ and healed many through his name. He who saw you, Saint Tryphon, hegemon of Aquilinus, brought you before the court. You, entirely in the hands of God, rejoiced. And the Lord vouchsafed him to suffer the same as he did, and seeing your faithfulness to God, we sing to you:

We rejoice, Tryphon, who has led to the salvation of many, who has converted many from unbelief to the true faith.

We rejoice in the miracles you have performed, in faith you have accepted and affirmed them, because indeed your faith in God has appeared throughout the entire universe.

Free of charge by the power of God, he heals every disease, giving hope to those abandoned by doctors.

Having heard how the soldiers were looking for you, you did not hide, martyr, either in the mountains or in the desert. But he defended himself with prayer and the cross and handed himself over to the tormentors. With great joy he directed his steps to Nicaea and announced to everyone about the true faith - Hallelujah!

  • Ikos 8

When the hegemon asked you at the court;
“Who are you, where are you from and in whom do you believe?”, you answered him: “Tryphon is my name, from Kompsada, I believe in the providence of God, since I am a Christian by faith. Christ is my strength, my strength, my glory and my joy.” Having heard such a confession of yours, we please you, Tryphon:

We rejoice, having boldly presented itself to the unrighteous judgment seat, strengthening those who believe in the power of God.

We entrust human life to fate, who taught us to trust in God in everything.

We rejoice, having confessed to a servant of Christ, who gives joy to the believers through this confession.

He excommunicated the wicked with a holy confession, and did not fear the coming torment of the wicked for faith in the true God.

The one, Divine truth, who loved the lie and the devil.

We rejoice in those who trust in Christ and call Him their strength.

We rejoice, Tryphon, helper to all of us, who come to you with faith and love!

Kontakion 9

Hearing your confession, the wicked were filled with rage and gave you over to torture. You, Martyr Tryphon, considered suffering for Christ as happiness and called out to God the song - Hallelujah!

  • Ikos 9

Governor Aquilinus, seeing how you were not afraid of his fierce torment, appeared like a meek sheep and began to seduce with kind words, but before he could finish this work, he turned into a fierce wolf. You remained firm and unshakable, thanks to God, and we proclaim, faithful to you:

We rejoice in him who was not afraid of cruel torments, who was not afraid of bodily death.

He who laid down his soul for the Orthodox faith, with a perfect mind, who preserved the true faith in the One God.

He aspired not to earthly, but to Heavenly wisdom, desiring salvation for his enemy.

Bring your tormentor to faith in the true God. We rejoice, sweet-voiced preacher of Christ.

A Christian, beloved by Christ, who has gone boldly into suffering.

We rejoice, suffering for Christ, who desired more treasures, during the time of fierce torment, illuminated by divine light.

We rejoice, Tryphon, helper to all of us , who come to you with faith and love!

Kontakion 10

Hearing your words that the Orthodox faith is true fire, Aquilinus became angry and ordered Saint Tryphon to be hanged and beaten. And you heard the voice of the Lord, calling you to a suffering feat, you cried out to God - Hallelujah!

  • Ikos 10

Just as a candle lights up with fire, so your soul, Saint Tryphon, lights up with love for God, and upon hearing the command of the hegemon to deliver your body into the hands of the tormentors.
Having seen such fidelity to God, we all say again: We rejoice in him who accepted his wounds for Christ, who bared his soul and atoned for our sins.

Voluntarily surrendered to the tormentors, imitating Christ, bound and hanged for torture.

He who accepted fierce beatings for Christ , endures a merciless beating for three hours.

He did not utter a single groan, nor uttered a single sound; he endured wounds, burns and other sufferings.

We rejoice in him who silently accepted blows on his body, wounded with wounds, and glorifying the power of God with his suffering.

He put his tormentors to shame with his patience, and pleased Christians with his feat.

We rejoice, Tryphon, helper to all of us, who come to you with faith and love!

Kontakion 11

Seeing your patience, Saint Tryphon, and the strength of your soul, people glorify the feat of the son of God, singing - Hallelujah!

  • Ikos 11

The wicked judges, who did not glorify God, saw the stone wall, unshakable . He gave you his strength. You were not persuaded either by flattery or by the fear of death - you did not make a sacrifice to the demons. You, holy martyr, confessed the faith of Christ, denounced the persecutors and showed the wisdom of those who believed in Christ. The hegemon, having taken you down from the pillar, tied you to his horse so that he would carry your body along with him. We glorify your suffering:

We rejoice, your wounded body was carried away by the horse, you endured the winter cold.

He taught us to turn our minds in earthly sorrows to God, instructing us to warm ourselves in the cold world with love for Him.

By his deed he showed us how it is proper to endure the suffering that quickly passes on earth, filled with love and mercy for all people.

For the sake of his love, he prayed to God for his enemy, who was imprisoned and suffered illness in fierce languor.

He clearly demonstrates that earthly suffering is insignificant, that for the sake of God people endure sorrows and wounds, who did not bow his head before beheading, who gave his holy soul into the hands of God.

We rejoice in him who prayed before his execution for everyone and whoever remembers him, that he may be heard by the Lord and every request he may have will be fulfilled, after his death he commands to bury himself in his fatherland, thereby teaching us to love our fatherland!

We rejoice, Tryphon, helper to all of us , who come to you with faith and love!

Kontakion 12

Not only on earth was the holy martyr an intercessor and helper to everyone who required help, but even after his death he did not cease to deliver from troubles those who came to him with faith and love, just as he delivered from the royal wrath of one boyar who had lost a falcon when Tryphon came to him on horseback and gave him the royal falcon in his hands. The falconer, at the place to which Tryphon appeared, thanked him and erected a temple in your name, martyr Tryphon. We, seeing your good deeds, remember you and offer a song of gratitude - Hallelujah!

  • Ikos 12

He who has quenched many sorrows, who has given the same to those who fall before your holy icon.
