How to resist the devil. Practical guide

God loves you and He has a good plan for your life. But if you want to live in His plan, you must renew your mind and change your way of thinking according to the Word of God.

Romans 12:2 says, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

I can tell you from personal experience that this is true because after I began to take my relationship with God seriously and began studying the Word, my life changed in amazing ways. Basically, I was an unhappy person with a lot of negativity, bitterness and anger inside. But when my mind was renewed, I became a joyful, calm, pleasant, promising person.

The Bible also tells us that we are in war. Ephesians 6:12 says, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”

The devil and his demons are real, and their first line of attack is our mind.

But although the enemy “comes only to steal and kill and destroy,” Jesus came so that we might have life and “have it more abundantly” (John 10:10). And Luke 10:19 says he has given us “power to tread on serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy. And nothing will harm you."

The enemy has power. But through Christ we have authority and power over him. The truth is that he only has the power to use his power against us when we allow him to do so.

Know the Word

The number one way to defeat the devil is to know the Word of God well enough to recognize the lies of the enemy; so you can subvert his plans. Second Corinthians 10:5 tells us, “Bearing down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, we take into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.”

First of all, it is necessary to know the Scriptures so that you can quickly recognize the lies of the devil and confront him with the Truth. Ephesians 6:17 says we have the helmet of salvation. This means that we can think like regenerate people when we renew our minds with God's Word.

Temptation by faith

Here the evil one, offering unlimited power over the world, hopes to confuse the spirit of man in Jesus, sowing doubt in the reality of the salvation of mankind (Luke 4:6-7):

I will give you power over all these kingdoms and their glory, for it has been given to me, and I give it to whomever I want; So, if You worship me, then everything will be Yours.

But even here the Son of God refuses the Devil (Luke 4:8):

Get away from Me, Satan; It is written: Worship the Lord your God, and serve Him alone.

This refusal demonstrated non-recognition of Satan's power over the world. After all, it belongs to God, who should be worshiped.

Take life calmly

Another way to overcome the enemy's attack is to remain calm every time. Peace is strength, and when the devil throws his best forces against you and you remain quiet, he doesn't know what to do!

When you are struggling with a difficult situation, you will be able to remain at peace if you trust that God is at work, no matter what it looks like or how you feel. We all face challenges that can steal our world, but we have a choice. We can go through life feeling confused and terrified when problems arise, or we can cast our worries on God and enjoy the journey! (1 Pet. 5:7)

Temptation of Pride

The devil, trying to arouse vanity, called on the Son of God to work a miracle on people by throwing himself off a cliff without dying (Matthew 4:6):

If You are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written: He will command His angels concerning You, and in their hands they will bear You up, lest You dash Your foot against a stone.

In this temptation, Satan quotes from Psalm 90, which tells adherents of the Christian religion about the benefits of placing complete trust in the Lord.

Although Jesus could have attracted the masses in this way, he refused to do so for the reason that it would not bear fruit for the moral life. He also said the following (Matthew 4:7):

It is also written: Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

The words of Moses from Deuteronomy (6:16) are again quoted. Having brought them, the Messiah showed: without urgent need, it is inappropriate to test the miraculous power of God, endangering your life.

Live in His Presence

Spending time in God's presence is another way to resist the devil. The truth is that we spend our time and money on what really matters to us. And when God is our main priority, we live in such a way that He occupies the main place in life; we plan our lives around our time with Him rather than trying to squeeze Him into our busy schedule.

When we live with Jesus, people know that there is something unusual about us. We are full of peace, and our actions show that we are Christians. Did you know that when you pray and study the Bible, you are participating in spiritual warfare?

Psalm 30:21 says, “You hide them under Your cover from evildoers, and in Your habitation from tongues cloven by evil.” I love this scripture. It shows that I am protected when I spend time in God's presence. I know that He is an omnipresent reality, and I have victory when His presence surrounds me.

HOW TO FIGHT THE DEVIL

After we are “born again” (John 3:3), we not only find a wonderful new life full of love, peace and happiness, but we also find ourselves in war ! Wars of the worlds, wars between the world of evil and the Kingdom of God!

In World War I combat, the heaviest enemy fire was usually encountered by soldiers when they left their trenches and attacked enemy positions! Now that you are saved, you go on the offensive against the devil, and he will try everything to stop you! Now you are a soldier in the Christian army of the Lord , and you pose a potential threat to hundreds of thousands of people captured by the devil! The devil knows that you now belong to Jesus , and the devil cannot take you away from Him. So, if he can't stop from being a Christian, he will try to stop you from being an active Christian. He will try to make you a “ dead ” Christian, not a living one ! He will make every effort to prevent you from serving the Lord, to prevent you from becoming a good example for others . After all, he is afraid that you might snatch other people from his clutches!

Everything is in God's hands!

God's Word says, “We are not unaware of his (Satan's) devices” (2 Corinthians 2:11). We must be vigilant , aware of the devil's tricks and be ready to repel his “flaming arrows” (Ephesians 6:16): despondency, pride, fear, envy, selfishness, doubt, bad thoughts, etc., with which he wants to strike us ! But the enemy cannot even touch us with his finger without the permission of the Lord ! And if the Lord allows him to do this, it is only for our own good : to strengthen us, teach us a lesson, or bring us closer to Himself!

Always remember that as a Christian you have nothing to fear from the devil and his powers, because Jesus is with you . Indeed, you are stronger than all the demons of hell, including Satan himself. God's Word says, “Greater is he who is in you (Jesus) than he who is in the world (the devil)” (1 John 4:4). Jesus Himself said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me” (Matthew 28:18). And you have Jesus and all His power! Jesus also said, “Behold, I give you authority to attack... all the power of the enemy” (Luke 10:19). So, by the power of prayer in the name of Jesus, you can repel the enemy and command him to leave when he tries to confuse and discourage you by tempting you and whispering evil things to you! He will be to obey you and run away ! (See James 4:7.)

Don't let devil confuse you!

One of the devil's favorite tricks when dealing with a Christian is to discourage the Christian! The devil is trying to focus your attention on your mistakes, sins, weaknesses and failures! He collects all your flaws and shortcomings and tries to show them in an exaggerated form! This is his favorite tactic. He knows that he cannot defeat you while you are fighting. Therefore, he tries to convince you that you are hopeless in your shortcomings and there is nothing left for you to do but stop fighting and give up.

A person falls into despair if he lacks faith . But “faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17). So, when your courage fails, the best remedy is to begin to pray and quote Scripture the Word and tell the devil that he is a liar (John 8:44). fight despondency with prayer and the Word ! Then your faith will strengthen, your doubts will disappear, and you will rush to victory!

How to deal with temptations

Temptation is the thought or desire to do something bad. No one can stop temptations from coming, but you must not give in . As the proverb says: “You can't stop the birds from flying over your head, but you can stop them from building a nest in your hair!” In other words, you cannot stop the devil from nagging you and tempting you , instilling bad thoughts in you, but you must not follow his words!

Many people judge themselves and consider themselves bad because bad thoughts and temptations come to them. But even Jesus ! (See Hebrews 4:15; Matthew 4:1-10.) It is no sin if the devil tempts you. You only sin if you give in to temptation and do something bad! The best way to fight temptations and bad thoughts is to read the Bible , pray , think about God and everything that strengthens faith and gives courage. “Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good report, if there is any excellence or if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things” (Philippians 4:8). “He who is strong in spirit You keep in perfect peace; for he trusts in You” (Isaiah 26:3). If you think about Jesus , then you will not have time to think about the evil thoughts of the enemy!

The Power of Praise

The of defense is offense ! If you really want to put the devil to flight, just start praising the Lord! Think about all the good things in your life and thank Jesus for everything He has done for you! Praising God has great power and makes the devil run away! To drive away the devil and dispel his darkness, you just need to let in the light! The enemy hates prayer and praising Jesus, and especially our active and active service to the Lord! So don't sit idly by, be active ! Do not submit to the enemy, resist him and attack him, do something good! Attack him with confidence in your thoughts , words , prayers and actions !

Give Word !

When the enemy attacks you, do not be unrequited, fight back! Quote the Holy Scripture, fight it back with the Word ! This is exactly what Jesus did when the devil tempted Him and lied to Him. “ It’s written down !” - Jesus said and quoted Holy Scripture to the devil (Matthew 4:1-11). Jesus used the Word !

When it comes to fighting the devil, the Word of God acts like spiritual bullets or death rays! Every word strikes the devil! In the list of armor of the Christian warrior, the only weapon for falling is “the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God” (Ephesians 6:17) . The Word is “living and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword” (Hebrews 4:12). The word is the most powerful weapon you can use! The enemy cannot resist him! He tucks his tail and runs away ! So whenever he rears his ugly head and tries to tempt you, take out your sparkling, white-hot spiritual sword, the Word of God, and strike the devil to the heart!

Memorize passages from the Holy Scriptures,

to fight the devil

Often the only weapons you have to immediately repel an enemy attack are those passages of Holy Scripture that you have memorized . That is why it is so important to memorize and keep in your heart strengthening, inspiring, faith- and hope-giving words from the Holy Scriptures that you can repeat to yourself and even quote to the enemy when he attacks you! Fill your mind with the light of God's Word and the darkness will dissipate! Quote the Holy Scriptures, fight the devil , show your faith in the Lord and His Word! You can quote out loud! Refute the enemy's lies! Out loud! Don `t doubt! Drive him away!

Ask for prayer

In the fight against the enemy, we sometimes need the help of our brothers and sisters! As the Bible says, “one could pursue a thousand, and two could drive out a darkness” (Deuteronomy 32:30). When you are depressed, depressed or struggling with an enemy, often you just need someone to help you by praying with you ! Jesus said, “For where two or three are gathered together in My name, there am I in the midst of them” (Matthew 18:20). Communal prayer has enormous power.

Fight a good fight ( fight selflessly!)

The best way to repel an attack is to go on the offensive . The best defense is to fall ! Your fight against the devil must be active! Continuously attack him! “Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (James 4:7)! We cannot remain idle, expecting God to do everything Himself! We must be good warriors and fight the enemy! We need to conduct active military operations!

The devil can only defeat you if you surrender! Don't let go of the weapon of the Word , and you will win . Hold on to God's promises! Do not give up! Keep fighting for Jesus! Do not stop!

May God help us to fight for Him with the weapon of His Word and joyfully overcome the devil!

Win with love

John 3:16 shows how walking in love becomes a spiritual battle. It says: “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” This verse shows us two ways of showing love: it gives and it forgives.

God gave Jesus so that we could have eternal life. Through Christ He forgives us and helps us in our needs. And He wants us to love others the same way He loves us.

Romans 12:21 tells us to overcome evil with good. When we have problems, this is the time to show love, to be kind to someone, helping to make their life better.

Remember that love is not just a warm, fuzzy feeling or theory. It's a decision about how you treat people. We cannot love if we only do it when we feel like it. We must decide to commit ourselves to a life of love, and this is possible when we trust and rely on God to give us the grace to do so.

I want to encourage you to study God's Word, spend time in His presence every day, remain calm in every situation, and love others as God loves you. In this way, you can defeat the enemy's attacks and enjoy the abundant life that Jesus gave you and died for.

Three Gospels about Temptations

The story of Jesus' confrontation with the Devil is found in all the Gospels except that written by John. Luke and Matthew talk about this at length, but Mark mentions it only briefly.

Directly following the rite of baptism is the departure of Christ into desert solitude in order, by fasting and reading prayers, to prepare for his mission on earth. According to the Gospel of Luke (4:2), he is forty days

He was tempted by the Devil and did not eat anything during these days, and after they were over, he finally became hungry.

At that moment, Satan approached him, trying to induce him to sin through three deceptions, like a person. This is how the Holy Scripture tells about it.
