The Great Canon of Andrew of Crete (with translation into Russian), read on Tuesday of the first week of Lent

Song 1

Cain passed away the murder, by the will of the murderer of the soul's conscience, reviving the flesh and fighting against it with my crafty deeds.

Abel, Jesus, did not become like righteousness; I never brought You a pleasing gift, neither divine deeds, nor pure sacrifices, nor immaculate lives.

Like Cain and we, a damned soul, brought together all our creators a vile deed, a vicious sacrifice, and an indecent life: and so we are condemned.

Cain and Abel are the two sons of Adam and Eve. When both brothers made a sacrifice to God, the Lord did not accept Cain's sacrifice because it was not brought from a pure heart. But Cain did not repent, but began to envy his brother, whose sacrifice was pleasing to God and accepted by Him. By deception, Cain lured Abel into the field and killed him, becoming the first murderer on earth (Gen. 4). The race of Cain, expelled from the rest of the descendants of Adam and Eve, subsequently died in a catastrophe included in the Holy Scriptures called the global flood.

Song 3

Under Noah, the Savior, those who imitated fornication, those who inherited condemnation in the flood of immersion.

Noah is an Old Testament patriarch who belonged to the 9th generation of people after Adam. During his time, the Lord decided to send a global flood to the earth to destroy all sinful humanity. Of all the people, only Noah and his family turned out to be righteous and were saved from the flood. God ordered Noah and his sons to build an ark, which contained the entire family of the patriarch, as well as representatives of the then flora and fauna (Gen. 6-9).

Hama, my soul, imitating the parricide, did not cover the shame of the sincere one, returning back in vain.

Ham is one of Noah's three sons. He insulted his father by laughing at him. After Noah, not knowing the effect of fermented grape juice, did not reach his bed and fell to sleep naked in the middle of the tent, Ham did not cover his father’s nakedness, but, laughing, went and told his brothers about it so that they would laugh too over my father. But the brothers covered their father, turning away so as not to see his nakedness. Upon learning of Ham's disrespect, Noah cursed his son (Gen. 9:18-27).

Burning, like Lot, run, my soul, from sin: run from Sodom and Gomorrah, run from the flame of every wordless desire.

Lot, Sodom and Gomorrah - see the explanations for the 3rd song of the canon, read on Monday of the first week of Lent.

Great Lent 2022, penitential canon of Andrei of Crete by day

The Monk Andrew of Crete lived in the 8th century. According to legend, when he was 7 years old, he was healed of dumbness after taking communion. At the age of 14 he became a monk in Jerusalem and began a detailed study of the faith. Contemporaries treated him with respect for his intelligence, knowledge of Christian dogmas, wisdom beyond his years and virtuous life. Later, while in the rank of deacon at the Church of Hagia Sophia in Constantinople, Andrei began to write church hymns.

Great Lent 2022, penitential canon of Andrei Kritsky, Monday

The Great Canon consists of 250 troparions (songs), each of which has an ending - the psalm chorus “HAVE MERCY ON ME, O GOD.” HAVE MERCY ON ME.”

Great Lent 2022, penitential canon of Andrei Kritsky, Tuesday

A canon is a liturgical text consisting of songs consisting of irmos and troparia, which are united by a common theme. The 1st stanza of each is called irmos, the rest (4-6) are troparia. The Great Canon consists of 9 songs, like all traditional Orthodox canons. The peculiarity of the Great Canon is that each song contains a larger number of troparions, and they are divided for reading over the four days of the first week.

Read on topic: First week of Lent 2022, features of the service

The second time the Great Canon of Andrew of Crete is read in full on Thursday morning of the fifth week of Great Lent. Reading most often takes place the night before; in 2022, “MARINO’S STANDING” will be on March 21.

The text of the canon of repentance, written by St. Andrew, covers all Old Testament events - from the fall of Adam and Eve to the earthly life of Jesus Christ. The canon is full of a feeling of contrition and complete repentance for sins.

The narrative in the canon is constructed in the form of a monologue. Everyone reading the canon prays together with everyone else in the first person. During the reading in the temple, the clergyman is in the temple part next to the praying parishioners.

Great Lent 2022, penitential canon of Andrei Kritsky, Thursday

The canon of Andrew of Crete instructs that for those who have fallen away from the Lord, there is only one way to unite with him - repentance. The Holy Fathers called repentance a “spiritual bath,” since in it a person is washed from the layers of sins and restored to his former radiant appearance.

Song 4

Be vigilant, O my soul, do good, as the great patriarch of old did, so that you may achieve deeds with your mind, so that your mind will see God, and you will reach the never-ending darkness in your vision, and you will become a great merchant.

Having created twelve great patriarchs among all the patriarchs, secretly establish for you the ladder of active ascension, my soul: children, like foundations, degrees, like ascents, wisely laid out.

The great one among the patriarchs is Jacob (Israel) , the founder of the chosen people of God. From him came twelve sons who became patriarchs of the twelve tribes of Israel. For more information about Patriarch Jacob, see the explanation to the 4th song of the canon, read on Monday of the first week of Great Lent.

You imitated the hated Esau, your soul, you gave the first kindnesses to your charmer the primacy and you fell away from your fatherly prayers, and you crawled twice, cursed, in deed and in mind: repent therefore now.

Esau was called Edom, extreme for the sake of misogynistic confusion: with intemperance we constantly kindle and defile with sweets, He was called Edom, which is said to kindle the soul of the sinful.

Esau is the brother of the patriarch Jacob. He disdained his father’s blessing and the honor of being considered the firstborn son, selling them to Jacob for lentil stew (Gen. 25:20-34). For his intemperance, Esau received the nickname “Edom” (“red”) - from the color of the lentil stew. After Jacob received the blessing that was once due to him, Esau hated his brother and wanted to kill him (Gen. 27).

Having heard Job in the pit of rot, about my soul being justified, you were not jealous of that courage, you did not have a firm proposal in all things, and you were tempted by the image, but you appeared impatient.

Those who were first on the throne, now naked and festering in a dungeon, many children and glorious, childless and homeless in vain;

Job is an Old Testament patriarch who, due to the action of the devil, lost his children, his property, and suffered from an incurable disease - leprosy. Showed strong faith in God in trials. The Lord restored Job to health and gave him more children. The story of the righteous Job, who the Church calls long-suffering, is described in the Old Testament book of Job.

Canon St. Andrew of Crete on Tuesday of the first week of Great Lent

Song 1, tone 6

Irmos: Helper and Protector be my salvation, This is my God, and I will glorify Him, God of my father, and I will exalt Him, gloriously I will be glorified.

Chorus: Have mercy on me, God, have mercy on me.

Cain passed away the murder, by the will of the murderer of the conscience of the soul, reviving the flesh, and fighting against her with my crafty deeds.

Abel Jesus, I have not become like righteousness; I have never brought You a pleasing gift, neither divine deeds, nor pure sacrifices, nor immaculate lives.

Like Cain and we, a damned soul, brought together all our creators a vile deed, a vicious sacrifice, and an indecent life, and we are also condemned.

The Creator of earth, having created life, has given me flesh and bones, breath and life: but O my Creator, my Deliverer and Judge, accept me repentantly.

I inform You, Savior, of the sins I have committed, and the ulcers of my soul and body, even the murderous thoughts of robbery that have been placed on me.

Even though you are a Savior who has sinned, we know that you are a lover of mankind, you punish mercifully, and you show mercy warmly, you see with tears, and you flow like a father, calling on the prodigal.

Glory,

Trinity: Pre-existing Trinity, worshiped in Unity, take away from me the heavy burden of sin, and as you are gracious, give me tears of tenderness.

And now,

Theotokos: Theotokos, Hope and Intercession of those who sing to You, take away from me the heavy burden of sin, and as the Pure Lady, repentant, accept me.

Song 2

Irmos: Listen to the sky, and I will speak and sing of Christ, who came in the flesh from the Virgin.

Sewing the garments of skin is a sin to me, exposing me to the first richly woven garments.

I am surrounded by a garment of cold, like fig leaves, to expose my autocratic passions.

Dressed in a shameful robe, and coldly bloodied by the flow of a passionate and lustful belly.

I fell into passionate destruction, and into material aphids, and from then until now the enemy annoys me.

A loving and beloved life, preferring intemperance to the Savior, now I am burdened with a heavy burden.

I decorate the carnal image with evil thoughts with various taxation, and I am condemned.

We diligently took care of the outer decorations alone, despising the inner God-like tabernacle.

The cellar of the first image of the kindness of the Savior with passions, even as sometimes the drachma was found.

Those who have sinned like a harlot cry out to Ty; only those who have sinned against You; like myrrh, accept the Savior, and my tears.

Cleanse me, as the publican cries to You, Savior, cleanse me, none of those who are from Adam, even as I have sinned with You.

Glory,

Trinity: One You in three Persons, I sing the God of all, the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

And now,

Theotokos: Most Pure Virgin Mary, the only all-sung One, pray diligently that we may be saved.

Song 3

Irmos: Lord, establish on the rock of Your commandments my heart, as if You alone are Holy and Lord.

The source of life is for You, the Destroyer of Death, and I cry to You from my heart before the end: those who have sinned, cleanse and save me.

Those who have sinned, O Lord, those who have sinned against You, cleanse me: for there is no one who has sinned among men who has not exceeded his sins.

Under Noah the Savior, who imitated fornication, inherited condemnation, and were immersed in the flood.

Hama to your soul, imitating the parricide, did not cover your sincere shame, returning back in vain.

Burn like Lot, my soul flee from sin, flee Sodom and Gomorrah, flee the flame of every wordless desire.

Have mercy, Lord, have mercy on me, I cry to You, when You come with Your Angels, reward everyone according to the merits of their deeds.

Glory,

Trinity: To the Simple Uncreated Trinity, the Beginning Nature, in the Trinity sung by the Hypostasis, save us who worship Thy power by faith.

And now,

Theotokos: From the Timeless Father, the Son, in the summer of the Theotokos, without artifice, you gave birth to, a strange miracle, the Virgin remained milking.

Song 4

Irmos: The prophet heard Your coming, Lord, and feared, because you wanted to be born of a virgin and appear as a man, and said: I heard Your hearing, and I was afraid, glory to Your power, Lord.

Be vigilant, O my soul, act like the great patriarch of old, so that you may achieve deeds with your mind, so that your mind will see God, and you will reach the never-ending darkness in your vision, and you will become a great merchant.

Twelve patriarchs, the great one who created children among all the patriarchs, secretly establish for you the ladder of my active soul, the ascension: children, like foundations, degrees, like ascension, wisely laying them out.

You imitated Esau's hated soul, you gave the first kindnesses priority to your charmer, and you fell away from your fatherly prayers, and you crawled twice, cursed, in deed and in mind, so now repent.

Esau was called Edom, extreme for the sake of misogynistic confusion: with intemperance we are ever kindled, and desecrated by sweets, He was called Edom, which is said to kindle the soul of the sinful.

Having heard Job in the pit of rot, about my soul being justified, you were not jealous of that courage, you did not have a firm proposal, in all your weight, and you were tempted by the image, but you appeared impatient.

Those who were first on the throne, now naked and festering, many in children and glorious, childless and homeless in vain: the chamber is rotting, and the scabs are imputed to the beads.

Glory,

Trinity: Inseparable being, unfused Persons, the theologian Thee, the Trinity One Divinity, as the One-King and Co-Throne, I cry out to Thee a great song, in the highest the most hymnable.

And now,

Theotokos: And you give birth, and you are virgin, and you remain in both the nature of the Virgin. When you are born, you renew the laws of nature, but the womb gives birth without giving birth. Wherever God wills, the order of nature is overcome: He creates whatever He wills.

Song 5

Irmos: From the morning night, Lover of mankind, I pray, enlighten me, and guide me in Your commandments, and teach me, O Savior, to do Your will.

Moses heard the ark of the soul, carried by the waters, the waves of the river, as if in the devil of ancient times the affairs of the bitter council of the Pharaohs were running.

If you have heard women, sometimes killing an ageless male soul, a cursed act of chastity, now like the great Moses, bring wisdom.

Like Moses the great Egyptian, the accursed one, who wounded his mind, did not kill him, O soul; and how did you dwell, they say, in the desert of passions through repentance?

The great Moses moved into the desert; Come then, imitate that life, and you will be in the bush of theophany, in the soul, in the vision.

Imagine the rod of Moses in the soul, striking the sea and thickening the depths, in the image of the Divine Cross; You, too, can do the same great thing.

Aaron brought fire to God, immaculate, unflattering; but Hophni and Phinehas, like you, offer to the soul a life alien to God, a defiled life.

Glory,

Trinity: We glorify Thee Trinity, One God: Holy, Holy, Holy art thou, Father, Son, and Soul, Simple Being, ever worshiped Unity.

And now,

Theotokos: From You, clothe yourself in my mixture, incorruptible, husbandless Mother of the Virgin, God who created the eyelids, and unite to Yourself human nature.

Song 6

Irmos: I cried out with all my heart to the generous God, and heard me from the underworld, and raised my belly from aphids.

The waves of the Savior of my sins, like returning to the Black Sea, suddenly covered me, like the Egyptians sometimes, and the tristats.

You had an unreasonable will for your soul, like Israel before; You ordained divine manna wordlessly, a lusty gluttony of passions.

Your soul preferred the treasures of Canaanite thoughts to veins of stone, from which a river is worthless than wisdom, like a cup that sheds the currents of theology.

Pork meat and cauldrons, and Egyptian food, you have ordained more heavenly things for my soul, like the foolish people of old in the desert.

As Moses struck Thy servant with a rod, a stone, figuratively representing Thy life-giving ribs, from which we draw all the drink of life, O Savior.

Test your soul and see how Joshua promised the land as it is, and inhabit it with goodness.

Glory,

Trinity: The Trinity is Simple, Indivisible, Separate and Personal, and the Unit is united by nature, the Father speaks, and the Son, and the Divine Spirit.

And now,

Theotokos: Thy womb of God, give birth to us, imagined for us, Him, as the Creator of all, pray, Mother of God, that we may be justified by Thy prayers.

Lord, have mercy (three times).

Glory to the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. And now, and forever, and forever and ever. Amen.

Kontakion, tone 6:

My soul, my soul, arise, what are you writing off? The end is approaching, and if you are embarrassed, rise up, so that Christ God, who is everywhere and fulfills everything, will have mercy on you.

Song 7

Irmos: We have sinned, we have sinned, we have acted untruthfully before You, we are inferior to observance, inferior to those who have done what You commanded us; but do not betray us to the end, Fathers God.

The ark, as if carried on a chariot, when I touched it, when I turned into a calf, I was tempted by God’s wrath; but having fled that boldness, honor the Divine more honestly.

You heard Absalom how he hated the nature, you knew his nasty deeds, such as desecrating the bed of David’s father; but you imitated that passionate and lusty aspiration.

Thou hast subdued thy unworkable dignity to thy body, and having found another enemy to the soul, Thou hast condescended to advise Ahithophel; but this scattering is Christ Himself, so that you may be saved in every way.

Solomon, wonderful and filled with grace and wisdom, having sometimes done this evil thing before God, depart from Him; To whom, by your cursed life, have you become like your soul.

Having been defiled by the pleasures of one’s passions, alas for me, the healer of wisdom, the healer of prodigal women, and strange from God; whom you imitated with your mind about your soul and your vile lusts.

You were jealous of Rehoboam, who did not listen to the advice of his father, and also of his worst enemy Jeroboam, the former apostate soul, but run after imitation, and call to God: those who have sinned, show mercy to me.

Glory,

Trinity: Simple Trinity, Indivisible, Consubstantial, and One Nature, Light and Light, and Holy Three, and One Holy Trinity is sung; but sing, glorify the Belly and Belly, the soul, all of God.

And now,

Theotokos: We sing to Thee, we bless Thee, we worship Theotokos, for Thou hast given birth to the inseparable Trinity of the One Christ God, and Thou hast Herself opened it to us who exist on heavenly earth.

Song 8

Irmos: Whom the armies of heaven praise, and the Cherubim and Seraphim tremble, every breath and creature, sing, bless, and exalt to all ages.

You were jealous of Uzziah’s soul, and you acquired this leprosy within yourself; you think without place, but act lawlessly; leave even the imashi, and the priests to repentance.

The soul of the Ninevites heard you repenting to God, in sackcloth and ashes, you did not imitate, but you appeared more evil than all, before the law, and according to the law of those who sinned.

In the den of cronyism, you heard Jeremiah’s soul, crying out to the city of Zion, and seeking tears; imitate this deplorable life and be saved.

Jonah fled to Tarshish, having foreseen the conversion of the Ninevites, thinking that he was a prophet of God's mercy; Moreover, one cannot lie to the prophecy if one is jealous.

Daniel in the ditch heard how you shut the mouth of the beasts about the soul; You led away, like the youths like you, about Azariah, extinguishing the burning flame of the furnace with faith.

The Old Testament brought everything to your soul, imitate righteous, God-loving deeds, and avoid evil sins.

Glory,

Trinity: Father without beginning, Son without beginning, Good Comforter, Righteous Soul, Word of God to the Parent, Father without beginning to the Word, Living and Creator of the Soul, Trinity Unity, have mercy on me.

And now,

Theotokos: As from the turning of the scarlet, the Most Pure, intelligent scarlet of Immanuel, the flesh was worn away inwardly in Thy womb; In the same way, we truly honor Theotokos.

Song 9

Irmos: Of the seedless conception there is an unspeakable nativity, to the mother of the husbandless fruit the incorruptible fruit, for God's birth renews the nature; In the same way, we all give birth to You as the Blessed Mother of God, we magnify you Orthodoxy.

Christ, having been tempted, was tempted by the devil, showing the stone so that there would be bread, and brought him up to the mountain to see all the kingdoms of the world in an instant; Fear, for the soul of the catch, be sober, pray to God every hour.

Desert-loving turtledove, cry out the voice of one crying, O lamp of Christ, preach repentance, Lawless Herod with Herodias. Beware, my soul, that you do not get caught in the net of lawlessness, but kiss repentance.

The grace of the Forerunner moved into the desert, and all of Judea and Samaria heard the flow, and confessed their sins, being baptized diligently, which you did not imitate in your soul.

The marriage is honest, and the bed is undefiled, for Christ first blessed both, poisoned by the flesh, and in Cana on the marriage, turning water into wine, and showing the first miracle, so that you may change, about your soul.

Christ took the weakened one, lifted him up from his bed, and raised up the dead young man, the widow's birth, and the centurion's youth, and the Samaritans appeared, in the spirit of service to you the soul of the pre-painting.

Heal the bleeding one with the touch of the edge of the vestment, Lord, cleanse the lepers, enlighten the blind and lame, heal the deaf and dumb and the needy below with a word, so that you may be saved, a damned soul.

Glory,

Trinity: We will glorify the Father, we will exalt the Son, we will faithfully worship the Divine Spirit, the Inseparable Trinity, the Unity in essence, as Light, and Light, and Life, and Life, life-giving, and enlightening the ends.

And now,

Theotokos: Preserve Your City, Most Pure Mother of God, in You this reigns faithfully, in You it is established, and through You it conquers, it overcomes every temptation, and captivates warriors, and obedience passes.

Chorus: Reverend Father Andrew, pray to God for us.

Honest Andrew and most blessed Father, Shepherd of Crete, do not cease praying for those who sing your praises, that we may be delivered from all anger and sorrow, corruption, and immeasurable sins, who faithfully honor your memory.

Song 5

You heard Moses hear the ark, in the soul, in the waters, in the waves of the river, as if in ancient times the affairs of the bitter council of the Pharaohs were running in the devil.

If you have heard of women who sometimes kill an ageless man, a damned soul, an act of chastity, now, like the great Moses, bring wisdom.

Like Moses the great Egyptian, having wounded the mind, the accursed one, thou didst not kill, O soul; and how did you dwell, they say, in the desert of passions through repentance?

The great Moses moved into the desert; Come then, imitate that life, and you will be in the bush of the Epiphany, in your soul, in a vision.

Imagine the rod of Moses, O soul, striking the sea and thickening the depths, in the image of the Divine Cross: with which you too can accomplish great things.

Moses is the Old Testament prophet of God. The 5th song of the canon recalls the life of the prophet, described in chapters 1-2 of the book of Exodus. The cruel Pharaoh, fearing a slave uprising, gave orders to kill all male babies born to Hebrew slaves. One of the children was miraculously saved - left near the royal baths in a tarred basket, where the pharaoh's daughter found him. The child was adopted by the king's daughter. He receives the name Moses - “drawn out of the water” and is raised at the court of Pharaoh. But, raised as an Egyptian nobleman, Moses cannot bear the oppression of his people and stands up for a Hebrew slave who is being beaten by an Egyptian. At the same time, he kills an Egyptian and he has to flee the country to avoid punishment. Moses finds refuge on the Sinai Peninsula, where 40 years later the Lord calls him to liberate His people. For more information about Moses, see the explanation to the 6th canon of the canon, read on Monday of the first week of Lent.

Aaron brought immaculate, unflattering fire to God; but Hophni and Phinehas, like you, brought to the soul a life alien to God, a defiled life.

Aaron is the elder brother of Moses, born before the issuance of Pharaoh's cruel decree on the extermination of infants. Aaron became the first priest of Israel and the founder of the priestly family. Throughout the history of the Old Testament people of God, only an Israelite from the descendants of Aaron could become a priest.

Hophni and Phinehas are descendants of the high priest Aaron, the wicked sons of the priest Eli. They were priests by right of inheritance, but they were distinguished by their greed and were irreverent towards the Lord’s sacrifice. Before the Israelites made a sacrifice, the sons of Eli came and chose the best pieces of meat for their feasts, and ordered the remainder - the worst meat - to be offered to the Lord. They were punished by God with premature death. Following them, Eli died - as punishment for not raising his children in piety (1 Sam. 1-4).

Song 6

The waves, O Savior, of my sins, as if returning to the Black Sea, suddenly covered me, as the Egyptians sometimes did.

Red (Red) Sea. Fleeing from Egyptian slavery, the Israelites miraculously crossed this sea, as if on dry land. The Egyptian warriors and horsemen (tristats) who rushed after them died under the closing waves (Ex. 14). Further, in the 6th song of the canon, other miracles of God revealed to the Israelites in the Sinai desert after crossing the Red Sea, and the murmur of the Jewish people, despite the many blessings of God, are recalled.

Test, soul, and see, like Joshua, the land of promise as it is, and inhabit it with goodness.

Joshua is the leader of the Israelites on the way to the Promised Land during the exodus from Egypt. After the death of the prophet Moses, he led the holy war of the Israelis against the wicked pagan tribes that inhabited Palestine.

Song 7

The ark, as if carried on a chariot, when I touched it, when I turned into a calf, I was tempted by God’s wrath; but having fled that boldness, honor the Divine soul more honestly.

Zan (Uzzah) is the son of Abinadab, keeper of the Ark of the Covenant in Kiriath Yarim. During the reign of the Israelite judges, this main shrine of the Jewish people was hidden in the village of Kiriat Yarim from the Philistines. After David's reign over Israel, the threat of attack by the Philistine tribes decreased. King David, accompanied by many people, personally took part in the transfer of the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem. Uzzah drove the chariot that carried the ark. Along the way of the ark's procession, a misfortune happened - an ox pushed the chariot, and Uzzah, who was sitting on it, grabbed the ark so as not to fall. Instead of taking care of the shrine of the Lord, he considered his safety more valuable than the ark. For this, Uzzah was immediately struck by the Lord and died (2 Kings 6).

You heard Absalom how he hated the nature, you knew his nasty deeds, such as desecrating the bed of David’s father; but you imitated that passionate and lusty aspiration.

Absalom is one of the sons of King David, born from the daughter of the King of Geshur. He rebelled against his father, seeking to seize his kingdom. As an expression of contempt for his father, he entered the house of his concubines in front of all the people. He died a shameful death: while participating in a battle against his father, he rode a mule through the forest, and his long hair, of which he was proud, became entangled in the branches of an oak tree, the mule ran away, and Absalom hung on a tree, where, despite the prohibition of King David, he was struck down royal soldiers (2 Kings 15-18).

David is the second king of Israel. For more information about it, see the explanation to the 7th canon of the canon, read on Monday of the first week of Lent.

Thou hast subdued thy unworkable dignity to thy body, for another Ahithophel, having found an enemy, to the soul, thou hast condescended with this advice; but this scattering is Christ Himself, so that you may be saved in every way.

Ahithophel - advisor to King David. He went over to the side of the traitor Absalom and gave him advice on how best to destroy David. Seeing that one of his advice against the king was not carried out, Ahithophel, fearing the king’s victory and reprisals for treason, hanged himself (2 Sam. 17:23).

Solomon, wonderful and filled with grace and wisdom, having sometimes done this evil thing before God, depart from Him; To whom you have become like, by your cursed life, soul.

Attracted by the pleasures of my passions, having become defiled, alas for me, the healer of wisdom, the healer of prodigal women and strange from God: whom you imitated in your mind, in your soul, with your vile lusts.

Solomon is the son of King David, the most famous of the kings of Israel (965-928 BC). He was famous for his wisdom, which he received from God as a reward for his humility. Author of the Old Testament books of Proverbs, Song of Songs, Ecclesiastes and Wisdom of Solomon. During the time of Solomon, the kingdom of Israel reached its highest peak. But wealth and numerous pagan wives corrupted him and made him forget the Lord. Towards the end of his life he repented.

You were jealous of Rehoboam, who did not listen to the advice of his father, and also of the evil servant Jeroboam, the former apostate, soul, but run in imitation and call to God: those who have sinned, show mercy to me.

Rehoboam is the son of King Solomon, who inherited the throne after the death of the king (1 Kings 11:43). He did not listen to the advice of the elders to be merciful to the people, and became a cruel ruler. During his reign, the united kingdom of Israel was divided into northern and southern.

Jeroboam is the first king of the northern kingdom of Israel, from the tribe of Ephraim. His reign over the ten tribes of Israel was predicted by the prophet Ahijah. Having learned about this, King Solomon wanted to kill Jeroboam, and he had to flee to Egypt. After the death of Solomon, Jeroboam led the Israelites, who were outraged by the exorbitant exactions of the new king Rehoboam, and began to rule over the ten tribes that did not want to accept the power of Rehoboam. But after becoming king, Jeroboam became proud and forgot God, becoming an idolater.

Canon of St. Andrew of Crete - Tuesday

Those who have sinned like a harlot cry out to Ty; only those who have sinned against You; like myrrh, accept the Savior, and my tears. Cleanse me, as the publican cries to You, Savior, cleanse me, none of those who are from Adam, even as I have sinned with You. Glory, Trinity: One Thee in three Persons, the God of all, the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. And now, Mother of God: Most Pure Virgin Mary, the only all-sung One, pray diligently that we may be saved. Song 3 Irmos: Establish, Lord, on the rock of Your commandments, my heart that has moved, for You alone are Holy and Lord. Glory, Trinity: To the Simple Uncreated Trinity, the Originless Nature, in the Trinity sung by the Hypostasis, save us who worship Thy power by faith. And now, the Mother of God: From the Flightless Father, in the summer of the Mother of God you gave birth without skill, a strange miracle, the Virgin remained milking. Song 4 Irmos: When the prophet heard Thy coming, O Lord, and feared, for Thou didst wish to be born of a virgin, and to appear as a man, and said: I heard Thy hearing, and was afraid, glory to Thy power, O Lord. Glory, Trinity: Indivisible in being, unfused in Person, to the theologian Thee, the Trinity One Divinity, as the One-King and Co-Throne, I cry out to Thee a great song, in the highest hymns of hymn. And now, the Mother of God: And you give birth, and you are virgin, and you remain in both the nature of the Virgin, When you are born, you renew the laws of nature, but the womb that does not give birth gives birth. Wherever God wills, the order of nature is overcome: He creates whatever He wills. Song 5 Irmos: From the morning night, O Lover of mankind, enlighten me, I pray, and guide me in Thy commandments, and teach me, O Savior, to do Thy will. Glory, Trinity: We glorify Thee Trinity, One God: Holy, Holy, Holy art thou, Father, Son, and Soul, Simple Being, ever worshiped Unity. And now, the Mother of God: From You put on my mixture, incorruptible, husbandless Mother Virgin, God who created the eyelids, and united Yourself with human nature. Song 6 Irmos: I cried out with all my heart to the generous God, and heard me from the underworld, and raised my belly from aphids. Glory, Trinity: The Trinity is Simple, Indivisible, Separate and Personal, and the Unit is united by nature, the Father speaks, and the Son, and the Divine Spirit. And now, the Mother of God: Thy womb of God, give birth to us, imagined for us, Him, as the Creator of all, pray, Mother of God, that we may be justified by Thy prayers. Lord, have mercy (three times). Glory to the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. And now, and forever, and forever and ever. Amen. Kontakion, tone 6: My soul, my soul, arise, what have you written off? The end is approaching, and if you are embarrassed, rise up, so that Christ God, who is everywhere and fulfills everything, will have mercy on you. Song 7 Irmos: We have sinned, we have sinned, we have acted untruthfully before You, we have been inferior to observance, inferior to those who have done what You commanded us; but do not betray us to the end, Fathers God. Glory, Trinity: Trinity Simple, Indivisible, Consubstantial, and One Nature, Light and Light, and Holy Three, and One Holy God Trinity is sung; but sing, glorify the Belly and Belly, the soul, all of God. And now, the Mother of God: We sing to You, we bless You, we worship Theotokos, for You gave birth to the inseparable Trinity of the One Christ God, and You Yourself opened it to us who exist on heavenly earth. Song 8 Irmos: Whom the armies of heaven praise, and the Cherubim and Seraphim tremble, every breath and creature, sing, bless, and exalt to all ages. Glory, Trinity: Father without beginning, Son without beginning, Good Comforter, Righteous Soul, Word of God to the Parent, Father without beginning, Word, Living Soul and Creator, Trinity Unity, have mercy on me. And now, the Mother of God: As from the turning of the scarlet, the Most Pure, the intelligent scarlet of Immanuel, the flesh was consumed within in Thy womb; In the same way, we truly honor Theotokos. Song 9 Irmos: To the seedless conception there is an unspeakable nativity, to the mother of the husbandless fruit the incorruptible fruit, for the birth of God renews natures; In the same way, we all give birth to You as the Blessed Mother of God, we magnify you Orthodoxy. Christ lifted the weakened one, lifted him up from his bed, raised up the dead young man, gave birth to a widow, and the centurion youth, and appeared to the Samaritans, in the spirit of serving you the soul of the pre-painting. Heal the bleeding one with the touch of the edge of the vestment, Lord, cleanse the lepers, enlighten the blind and lame, heal the deaf and dumb and the needy below with a word, so that your damned soul may be saved. Glory, Trinity: We will glorify the Father, we will exalt the Son, we will faithfully worship the Divine Spirit, the Indivisible Trinity, the Unity in essence, as Light, and Light, and Life, and Life, life-giving, and enlightening the ends. And now, Mother of God: Preserve Your City, Most Pure Mother of God, for in You this reigns faithfully, in You it is established, and through You it conquers, it conquers every temptation, and captivates warriors, and obedience passes. Chorus: Reverend Father Andrew, pray to God for us. Honest Andrew and most blessed Father, Shepherd of Crete, do not stop praying for those who sing your praises, that we may be delivered from all anger and sorrow, corruption, and immeasurable sins, who faithfully honor your memory.

Song 8

You, the soul of Uzziah, became jealous of this leprosy, and you acquired this leprosy in yourself: you thought without place, but acted lawlessly; leave them alone, and those who pray to repentance.

Uzziah (Azariah) was the king of Judah who ruled in the 8th century BC. (2 Kings 15:1-7, 2 Chron. 26). At the beginning of his reign he was pious. He fought successful wars with the Philistines. Subsequently, he became proud and wanted to enter the Jerusalem Temple and perform divine services there instead of the priests. “And the Lord struck the king, and he was a leper until the day of his death, and lived in a separate house” (2 Kings 15:5). The throne passed to his son Jotham.

The Ninevites, my soul, heard you repenting to God in sackcloth and ashes; you did not imitate them, but you appeared more evil than all those who sinned before the law and according to the law.

The Ninevites - the inhabitants of Nineveh, the Assyrians, after the Jewish prophet Jonah came to them and convicted them of their sins, not only repented, but also unanimously wished to put on sackcloth (rough clothing) and sprinkle ashes on their heads as a sign of their repentance, as they did usually on days of mourning.

In the den of cronyism, you heard Jeremiah, the soul of the city of Zion, crying out with sobs and seeking tears: imitate this deplorable life and be saved.

Jeremiah is a prophet of the Kingdom of Judah (VII-VI centuries BC), author of the Old Testament texts of the Book of the Prophet Jeremiah and the Lamentations of Jeremiah. He preached about the imminent destruction of Jerusalem by the Babylonians if its inhabitants were unrepentant. For the words of his sermon, he was considered a traitor to the people and thrown into a ditch of mud. Jeremiah's prophecy came true during his lifetime. The Babylonians who invaded the city freed the prophet and allowed him to remain and live wherever he wished, while his compatriots were taken into captivity. Jeremiah was left to mourn the holy city and his people in the ruins of Jerusalem. He was later taken into Egyptian captivity by the Israelis who wanted to flee to Egypt from the occupied lands. In Egypt, Jeremiah suffered martyrdom from the Jews for his denunciations. According to legend, he was buried in Alexandria.

Jonah fled to Tarshish, having foreseen the conversion of the Ninevites, for in his mind, as a prophet, God’s kindness: therefore, jealous of prophecy, do not lie.

Jonah is the prophet of the Kingdom of Israel (XI-VIII centuries BC). He was sent to preach to the pagans - the Assyrians who lived in the city of Nineveh. He resisted this command of God, because he learned that the Ninevites would repent and the prophecy would remain unfulfilled. Jonah fled by ship to Tarshish (a city on the Iberian Peninsula or North Africa), but on the way he was overtaken by a storm. Realizing that the Lord was sending a storm because of him, he asked the shipmen to throw him over the deck. Jonah is swallowed by a huge fish and washed ashore three days later. Jonah, having repented, went to preach in Nineveh. Its inhabitants truly repented and declared a fast to cleanse their sins. The Old Testament book of the prophet Jonah tells about this.

Daniel in the ditch heard how you shut your mouth, about the soul, of animals; Thou didst lead, like the youths like Azariah, by extinguishing the burning flame of the furnace with faith.

Daniel is an Old Testament prophet (c. 607-516 BC), author of the book of the prophet Daniel. In his youth, he was taken into Babylonian captivity and, thanks to his noble origin, along with other young men, was left to serve at the royal court. He earned the respect of the Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar II thanks to his wisdom and gift of interpreting dreams. He predicted to the Babylonian king the capture of his empire by the Medes and Persians. Twice - under the Persian kings Darius I and Cyrus the Great - he was thrown into a den of lions for his faith and refusal to serve idols. Both times the Lord sent an Angel who blocked the lions' mouths and delivered the prophet from death.

Azariah is one of three young men who are friends of the prophet Daniel. For refusing to bow to the idol, three Jewish youths - Azariah, Hananiah and Mishael - were thrown into a fiery furnace by order of the Babylonian king. But suddenly an Angel of God appeared in the oven and saved the martyrs. The young men walked unharmed among the fire and sang a song of praise to the Lord. Frightened, the Babylonian king ordered their release and issued a decree on the veneration of the True God in Babylon (Dan. 3). According to church tradition, Azariah, Ananias and Misail did not escape martyrdom - many years later they were beheaded by order of the Persian king Cambyses. The life of the three holy youths is described in the book of the prophet Daniel.

Great Canon of Andrew of Crete - Tuesday of the 1st week of the Second Week

Song 1

Irmos: Helper and Protector be my salvation, This is my God, and I will glorify Him, God of my father, and I will exalt Him: gloriously will I be glorified.

A Helper and Protector has appeared to me for salvation, He is my God, and I will glorify Him, the God of my father, and will exalt Him, for He has been solemnly glorified.

(Ex. 15, 1-2)
Chorus: Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy on me.

Cain passed away the murder, by the will of the murderer of the soul's conscience, reviving the flesh and fighting against it with my crafty deeds.

Having surpassed Cain's murder, by conscious permission, through the revival of sinful flesh, I became a murderer of the soul, arming myself against it with my evil deeds.

(Gen. 4,8)
Abel, Jesus, was not made like righteousness; I never brought You a pleasing gift, neither divine deeds, nor pure sacrifices, nor immaculate lives.

I did not imitate Abel’s righteousness, Jesus, I never brought You pleasant gifts, no deeds pleasing to God, no pure sacrifice, no immaculate life.

(Genesis 4:4)
Like Cain and we, a damned soul, have brought together all our Creators a vile deed, a vicious sacrifice, and an indecent life: and so we are condemned.

Like Cain, so we, the unfortunate soul, made a vicious sacrifice to the Creator of all - wicked deeds and an intemperate life: therefore we are condemned.

(Gen. 4, 3-5)
Mortar, Creator of life, gave me flesh and bones, and breath, and life; but, O my Creator, my Savior and Judge, accept me repentantly.

Revived earthly dust, Skudelnik, You gave me flesh and bones, breath and life; but, my Creator, my Redeemer and Judge, accept me repentant!

(Genesis 2:7)
I inform You, O Savior, of the sins I have committed, and of the ulcers of my soul and body, which I have laid upon me within the murderous thoughts of robbery.

Before You, Savior, I reveal the sins I have committed, and the wounds of my soul and body that my inner murderous thoughts have inflicted on me.

(Luke 10:30)
Even though we have sinned, O Savior, we know that you are a lover of mankind, you punish mercifully and show mercy with warmth, you look tearfully and come, like a father, calling on the prodigal.

Although I have sinned, Savior, I know that You are philanthropic; you punish with compassion and have mercy with love, you look at the crying and hasten, like the Father, to call the prodigal.

(Luke 15:20)
Glory, Trinity: Pre-existing Trinity, worshiped in Unity, take away from me the heavy burden of sin and, as you are gracious, give me tears of tenderness.

All-Essential Trinity, Whom we worship as a Single Being, remove from me the heavy burden of sin and, as the Merciful One, grant me tears of tenderness.

And now, Mother of God: Mother of God, Hope and Intercession of those who sing to You, take away from me the heavy burden of sin and, like the Pure Lady, repentant, accept me.

Mother of God, Hope and Help to all who praise You, remove from me the heavy burden of sin and, like the Immaculate Lady, accept me repentant.

Song 2

Irmos: Look, O Heaven, and I will speak and sing of Christ, who came in the flesh from the Virgin.

Hearken, heaven, I will proclaim and glorify Christ, who came in the flesh from the Virgin.

Sewing the garments of skin is a sin to me, exposing me to the first richly woven garments.

“Skin garments” were sewn for me by sin, removing from me the former garment woven by God.

I am surrounded by a garment of cold, like fig leaves, to expose my autocratic passions.

I have clothed myself with the robe of shame, like the leaves of a fig tree, to expose my self-willed passions.

(Genesis 3:7)
Dressed in a shameful robe and bloodied by the cold flow of a passionate and lustful belly.

I dressed myself in clothes shamefully stained and bloodied by the impurity of a passionate and voluptuous life.

I fell into passionate destruction and into material aphids, and from then until now the enemy annoys me.

I have been subjected to the torment of passions and material corruption, and that is why the enemy is now oppressing me.

The Savior prefers a loving and beloved life to intemperance, now I am burdened with a heavy burden.

Having preferred a life attached to earthly things and covetousness to non-covetousness, Savior, I am now under a heavy burden.

I decorate the carnal image of bad thoughts with various taxes, and I am condemned.

I decorated the idol of the flesh with a multi-colored robe of vile thoughts and am subject to condemnation.

We diligently took care of the outer decorations alone, despising the inner God-like tabernacle.

While zealously caring for outward splendor alone, I neglected the inner tabernacle, built in the image of God.

The cellar of the first image of kindness, Savior, passions, even as sometimes having sought a drachma, found it.

The beauty of the primeval image was covered with passions, O Savior; You seek it and find it, just as you once did the drachma.

(Luke 15,8)
Those who have sinned like a harlot cry out to Thee: those who have sinned only to Thee, as the ointment, accept, O Savior, my tears.

I have sinned, and like a harlot I cry to You: I alone have sinned before You, accept, O Savior, tears from me instead of peace.

(Luke 7:37-38)
Cleanse me, as the publican cries out to You, O Savior, cleanse me: none of those who are from Adam have sinned with You like I.

Have mercy, like a publican, I appeal to You, Savior, have mercy on me: for like none of the descendants of Adam, I have sinned before You.

(Luke 18:13)
Glory, Trinity: You are One in Three Persons, I sing to the God of all, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

I praise You, One in three Persons, God of all, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

And now, Mother of God: Most Pure Virgin Mary, One All-Singing One, pray diligently that we may be saved.

Most Pure Virgin Mary, You alone, glorified by all, earnestly pray for our salvation.

Song 3

Irmos: Establish, O Lord, my moving heart on the rock of Your commandments, for You alone are Holy and Lord.

Establish, O Lord, my wavering heart on the rock of Your commandments, for You alone are holy and Lord.

The source of life is for You, the Destroyer of Death, and I cry to You from my heart before the end: those who have sinned, cleanse and save me.

I have found the source of life in You, Destroyer of death, and before death I cry to You from my heart: I have sinned, have mercy, save me.

Those who have sinned, O Lord, those who have sinned against You, cleanse me: for there is no one who has sinned among men, whom he has not exceeded in sins.

I have sinned, Lord, I have sinned before You, have mercy on me, for there is no sinner among people whom I have not surpassed in sins.

Under Noah, the Savior, imitators of fornication, they inherited condemnation in the flood of immersion.

I imitated, Savior, the corrupt contemporaries of Noah and inherited their condemnation to be drowned in the flood.

(Genesis 6:1-17)
Hama on your soul, imitating the parricide, did not cover your sincere shame, returning back in vain. [Imitating the parricide Ham, you, soul, did not cover the shame of your neighbor with your face turned back. (Gen. 9, 22-23)

Burning, like Lot, run, my soul, run away from the sin of Sodom and Gomorrah, run away from the flame of every wordless desire.

Flee, my soul, from the flames of sin; like Lot; flee from Sodom and Gomorrah; flee from the fire of every foolish desire.

(Genesis 19:15-17)
Have mercy, O Lord, have mercy on me, I cry to You, when You come with Your Angels to reward everyone according to the merits of their deeds.

Have mercy, Lord, I appeal to You, have mercy on me when You come with Your Angels to reward everyone according to the merit of their deeds.

Glory, Trinity: Trinity Simple, Uncreated, Originless Nature, in the Trinity sung by the Hypostasis, save us who worship Thy power by faith.

Trinity, incomposite, uncreated, Being without beginning, glorified in the trinity of persons, save us, who with faith worship Your power.

And now, the Mother of God: From the Father, without flight, the Son in the summer, to the Mother of God, without artifice, you gave birth, a strange miracle, the Virgin remained milking.

You, Mother of God, without having experienced a husband, in time gave birth to a Son from the Father outside of time and - a wondrous miracle: feeding on milk, you remained a Virgin.

Song 4

Irmos: The prophet heard Thy coming, O Lord, and feared, for Thou wouldst be born of a Virgin and appear as a man, and said: I heard Thy hearing and feared, glory to Thy power, O Lord.

The prophet heard about Your coming, O Lord, and was afraid that You would be born of a Virgin and appear to people, and said: I heard the news about You and was afraid; glory to your power, O Lord.

Be vigilant, O my soul, act like the great of old in the patriarchy, so that you will achieve deeds with reason, so that you will have a mind that sees God, and you will reach the never-ending darkness in vision, and you will be a great merchant.

Stay awake, my soul, be courageous, like the great of the patriarchs, in order to acquire for yourself a matter of reason, in order to be enriched with a mind that sees God, and to penetrate the impregnable darkness in contemplation and receive great treasure.

(Genesis 32:28)
Having created twelve great patriarchs among the patriarchs, secretly affirmed for you the active ladder of ascent, my soul: children, like foundations, degrees like ascent, having wisely laid them down.

The great of the patriarchs, having given birth to twelve patriarchs, mysteriously presented to you, my soul, the ladder of active ascent, wisely arranging the children as steps, and his steps as upward ascents.

You imitated the hated Esau, your soul, you gave the first kindnesses to your charmer the primacy and you fell away from your fatherly prayers, and you crawled twice, cursed, in deed and in mind: repent therefore now.

Imitating the hated Esau, soul, you gave your seducer the primacy of original beauty and lost your fatherly blessing and, unfortunate, fell twice, in activity and in understanding, so now repent.

(Gen. 25, 32; 27, 37. Mal. 1, 2-3)
Esau was called Edom, extreme for the sake of misogynistic confusion: by intemperance we are constantly kindled and desecrated by sweets, He was called Edom, which is said to kindle the soul of the sinful.

Esau was called Edom because of his extreme love of women; constantly inflamed by intemperance and defiled by lust, it is called Edom, which means “inflammation of the sin-loving soul.”

(Genesis 25:30)
Having heard Job in the pit of rot, about my soul being justified, you were not jealous of that courage, you did not have a firm proposal in all things, and you were tempted by the image, but you appeared impatient.

Hearing about Job, who sat on the dungeon, you, my soul, did not imitate him in courage, did not have a strong will in everything that you learned, that you saw, that you experienced, but you turned out to be impatient.

(Job 1:1-22) Those who
were first on the throne, now naked and festering in a dungeon, many children and glorious, childless and homeless in vain: the wretched chamber of rotting and beaded scabs is imputed.

Formerly on the throne, now on the rotting heap, naked and ulcerated; who had many children and was famous, suddenly became childless and homeless; He considered pus his palace and ulcers his precious stones.

(Job 2:11-13)
Glory, Trinity: Undivided in being, unfused in the person of the theologian, Thee, the Trinity One Divinity, as One-King and Co-Throne, I cry out to Thee a great song, tremblingly hymned in the highest. [Undivided in essence, unmerged in Persons, I theologically confess You, Trinity One Deity, Co-Royal and Co-Throne; I proclaim to You a great song, sung three times in the heavenly abodes. (Isa. 6, 1-3)

And now, the Mother of God: And you give birth, and you are virgin, and you remain in both the nature of the Virgin, When you are born, you renew the laws of nature, but the womb that does not give birth gives birth. Where God wants, the order of nature is overcome: He does whatever He wants.

And You give birth and remain a Virgin, in both cases preserving virginity by nature. He who is born of You renews the laws of nature, and gives birth to the virgin womb; when God wants, the order of nature is disrupted, for He creates what He wants.

Song 5

Irmos: From the morning night, O Lover of mankind, enlighten me, I pray, and instruct me in Thy commandments, and teach me, O Savior, to do Thy will.

From the waking night, enlighten me, I pray, O Lover of Mankind, guide me in Your commandments and teach me, O Savior, to do Your will.

(Ps. 62, 2; 118, 35)
Moses heard the ark, in the soul, in the waters, in the waves of the river, as in the devil of old, running affairs, the bitter advice of the Pharaohs.

You have heard, soul, about the basket with Moses, in ancient times carried by the waters in the waves of the river, as in a palace that escaped the sad consequences of Pharaoh’s plan.

(Ex. 2, 3)
If you heard women, sometimes killing ageless men, a damned soul, an act of chastity, now, like the great Moses, bring wisdom.

If you have heard, unfortunate soul, about midwives who once killed newborn male babies, then now, like Moses, feed on wisdom.

(Isaiah 1:8-22)
For Moses, the great Egyptian, did not kill the accursed mind, O soul; and how did you dwell, they say, in the desert of passions through repentance?

Like the great Moses, who struck the Egyptian, you, unfortunate soul, did not kill the proud mind; How, tell me, will you enter the desert from passions through repentance?

(Exodus 2:11-12)
The great Moses moved into the desert; Come then, imitate that life, and you will be in the bush of the Epiphany, in your soul, in a vision.

The great Moses settled in the desert; Go and you, soul, imitate his life, so that you too can see the appearance of God in the thorn bush.

(Ex. 3:2-3)
Imagine the rod of Moses, O soul, striking the sea and thickening the depths, in the image of the Divine Cross: with which you too can accomplish great things.

Depict, soul, the rod of Moses, striking the sea and thickening the depths, as a sign of the Divine Cross, with which you too can accomplish great things.

(Exodus 14:21-22)
Aaron brought immaculate, unflattering fire to God; but Hophni and Phinehas, like you, offer to the soul a life alien to God, a defiled life.

Aaron brought pure, unalloyed fire to God, but Hophni and Phinehas brought, like you, soul, unclean life alienated from God.

(1 Kings 2, 12-13)
Glory, Trinity: We glorify You, the Trinity, the One God: Holy, Holy, Holy art thou, Father, Son and Soul, Simple Being, ever worshiped Unity.

We glorify You, Most Holy Trinity, for the One God: Holy, Holy, Holy Father, Son and Spirit, Simple Being, Ever Worshiped Unit.

And now, the Mother of God: From You put on my mixture, the incorruptible, husbandless Mother of the Virgin, God, who created the eyelids, and united to Yourself human nature.

In You, Imperishable, Virgin Mother, who did not know a husband, God, who created the world, clothed himself in my composition and united human nature with Himself.

Song 6

Irmos: I cried out with all my heart to the generous God, and heard me from the underworld, and raised my belly from aphids.

With all my heart I cried out to the merciful God, and He heard me from the underworld and called my life from destruction.

The waves, O Savior, of my sins, as if returning to the Black Sea, suddenly covered me, as the Egyptians sometimes did.

The waves of my sins, Savior, turning as in the Red Sea, suddenly covered me, as they once did the Egyptians and their horsemen.

(Isaiah 14, 26-28; 15, 4-5)
You had an unreasonable will in your soul, just like Israel before: you ordained divine manna, a wordless, lusty gluttony of passions.

Your choice, soul, is unreasonable, like that of ancient Israel, for you foolishly preferred the voluptuous satiety of passions to the Divine manna.

(Num. 21:5)
Kladentsy, my soul, you preferred Canaanite thoughts to veins of stone, from which a river is worthless than wisdom, like a cup sheds the currents of theology.

You, soul, preferred the wells of Canaanite thoughts to a stone with a source from which the river of wisdom, like a cup, pours out streams of theology.

(Genesis 21, 25. Exodus 17:6)
Thou didst foretell pork meat and cauldrons and Egyptian food, more than heavenly things, to my soul, like the foolish people of old in the desert.

You preferred pork, cauldrons and Egyptian food to heavenly food, my soul, like the ancient reckless people in the desert.

(Ex. 16:3)
As Thy servant Moses struck a stone with a rod, figuratively Thy life-giving ribs were represented, from which we draw all the drink of life, O Savior.

How Moses, Thy servant, striking the rock with his rod, mysteriously represented Thy life-giving rib, O Savior, from which we all draw the drink of life.

Test, soul, and see, like Joshua, the land of promise as it is, and inhabit it with goodness.

Search, O soul, like Joshua, and survey the promised land for what it is, and dwell in it by fulfilling the law.

Glory, Trinity: The Trinity is Simple, Indivisible, separate and Personal, and the Unity is united by nature, the Father speaks, and the Son, and the Divine Spirit.

I am the Trinity, Simple, Indivisible, separate in Persons and Unity, united in essence; The Father, the Son and the Divine Spirit testify.

And now, the Mother of God: Thy Womb of God, give birth to us, imagined for us: Him, as the Creator of all, pray to the Mother of God, that through Thy prayers we may be justified.

Thy womb gave birth to us God, who took our image; Pray to Him, as the Creator of the whole world, Mother of God, so that through Your prayers we may be justified.

Lord, have mercy (Thrice). Glory, and now:

Kontakion, tone 6:

My soul, my soul, arise, what are you writing off? The end is approaching, and you will be embarrassed: rise up, so that Christ God, who is everywhere and fulfills everything, will have mercy on you.

My soul, my soul, arise, why are you sleeping? The end is approaching and you will be confused; Awake, so that Christ God, Omnipresent and filling everything, will have mercy on you.

Song7

Irmos: We have sinned, we have sinned, we have acted untruthfully before You, we are inferior to observance, inferior to those who have done what You commanded us; but do not betray us to the end, Fathers God.

We have sinned, we have lived lawlessly, we have acted wrongly before You, we have not kept, we have not fulfilled what You commanded us; but do not leave us until the end, O God of the fathers.

(Dan. 9, 5-6)
The ark, as if carried on a chariot, When I turned into a calf and touched it, I was tempted by God’s wrath; but having fled that boldness, honor the Divine soul more honestly.

(2 Kings 15, 1-37; 16, 21)
Thou hast subdued thy unworkable dignity to thy body, for another Ahithophel, having found an enemy, to the soul, thou didst condescend with this advice; but this scattering is Christ Himself, so that you may be saved in every way.

You, soul, subordinated your free dignity to your body, for, having found another Ahithophel the enemy, you bowed to his advice, but Christ Himself scattered them so that you could be saved.

(2 Kings 16:20-21)
Wonderful Solomon and full of grace and wisdom, having sometimes done this evil thing before God, depart from Him; To whom you have become like, by your cursed life, soul.

Wonderful Solomon, being filled with the gift of wisdom, once, having done evil before God, retreated from Him; You have become like him, soul, with your life worthy of damnation.

(1 Kings 3, 12; 11, 4-6)
By the pleasures of my passions, having been defiled, woe is me, the healer of wisdom, the healer of prodigal women, and strange from God; whom you imitated in your mind, in your soul, and in your vile lusts.

Carried away by voluptuous passions, alas, the zealot of wisdom became defiled, loving wicked women and alienating himself from God; him, soul, you yourself imitated in your mind with shameful voluptuousness.

(3 Kings 11:6-8)
You were jealous of Rehoboam, who did not listen to the advice of his father, and also of the wicked servant Jeroboam, the former apostate, soul, but run in imitation and call to God: those who have sinned, have mercy on me.

(Z Kings 12, 13-14, 20)
Glory, Trinity: Trinity Simple, Indivisible, Consubstantial and One Nature, Light and Light, and Holy Three, and One Holy, God the Trinity is sung; but sing, glorify the Belly and Belly, the soul, all of God.

Trinity Simple, Indivisible, Consubstantial, One in Nature, Lights and Light and Three Holy and One (Person) Holy, God the Trinity, sung in chants; sing, too, O soul, glorify Life and Life—the God of all.

And now, the Mother of God: We sing to Thee, bless Thee, we worship Thee, the Mother of God, for Thou didst give birth to the Inseparable Trinity of the One Christ God and Thou Shest opened the heavenly One to us who are on earth.

We praise You, we bless You, we worship You, Mother of God, for You gave birth to the One of the Indivisible Trinity, Christ God, and You Yourself opened the heavenly abodes for us living on earth.

Song 8

Whom the armies of heaven glorify and before Whom the Cherubim and Seraphim tremble, Him, all beings and creatures, glorify, bless and exalt throughout all ages.

You, the soul of Uzziah, became jealous of this leprosy, and you acquired this leprosy in yourself: you thought without place, but acted lawlessly; leave them alone, and those who pray to repentance.

Having competed with Uzziah, O soul, you have received for yourself doubly his leprosy, for you think the wrong and do the lawless; leave what you have and begin to repent.

(Jonah 1:3)
You heard Daniel in the ditch, how you shut your mouth about the soul of the beasts; Thou didst lead, like the youths like Azariah, by extinguishing the burning flame of the furnace with faith.

And now, the Mother of God: As from the turning of the scarlet, the most pure, intelligent scarlet of Immanuel, the flesh was consumed within in Thy womb. Moreover, we truly honor Theotokos.

Mental purple - the flesh of Immanuel was woven inside Your womb, Most Pure, as if from a purple substance; therefore we honor You, the True Mother of God.

Song 9

Irmos: From the seedless conception there is an unspeakable nativity, to the mother of the husbandless fruit the imperishable fruit, for God’s Birth renews natures. In the same way, we all give birth to You, like the Blessed Mother of God.

The Nativity from seedless conception is inexplicable; the fruit of the husbandless Mother is incorruptible, for the birth of God renews nature. Therefore, we, all generations, Orthodoxy magnify You, as the Bride-Mother of God.

Christ, having been tempted, was tempted by the devil, showing the stone so that there would be bread, and brought him up to the mountain to see all the kingdoms of the world in an instant; fear for your soul, be sober, pray to God every hour.

Christ was tempted; the devil tempted by showing stones so that they would turn into bread; took Him up a mountain to see all the kingdoms of the world in an instant; Be afraid, soul, of this deception, stay awake and pray to God every hour.

Marriage is honest and the bed is undefiled, for Christ first blessed both, poisoned by the flesh, and in Cana at the wedding, turning water into wine, and showing the first miracle, yes you will change, oh soul.

Marriage is honorable and the bed is undefiled, for Christ once blessed them, at Cana at the wedding, eating food in the flesh and turning water into wine, performing the first miracle so that you, the soul, would change.
