Prayer to Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker for good luck in trade and business

Among the huge host of saints, Nicholas the Wonderworker is especially revered by the people. Since the times of Rus', his name has not left the lips of Orthodox Christians, glorifying his greatness, intercession and first aid.

With his good deeds during his earthly life, Nicholas earned the mercy of the Almighty and received the miraculous power of miracles, which he used for the benefit of those in need.

The prayer books contain many texts intended for seeking help from the Pleasant, including a prayer for successful trading to St. Nicholas the Wonderworker and for help in business.

Whoever sincerely turns to the saint with a request, he will not leave him in trouble and will definitely help.

Prayer in Orthodoxy

Is it possible for an Orthodox Christian to do business? And is there a special prayer for success in business? First of all, it is necessary to understand the meaning of Orthodox prayer. The saints called it “conversation with God and contemplation of the invisible.” This is a sincere and humble request to the Lord, filled with repentance and trust in Him.

Money and faith

Orthodox Christians turn to God not only for spiritual needs, but also for everyday needs. Of course, we do not always receive the material benefits we ask for. But this should also be perceived as a manifestation of the Almighty’s care. Venerable Paisius the Svyatogorets instructs:

“If God doesn’t give us something, it’s to test us or to protect us. Let us not only accept it with joy, but also reflect on it in order to benefit. He knows when and how to help His creation.”

St. John Climacus teaches that the process of prayer itself is much more important than its external results. One who prays regularly will certainly acquire spiritual fruits. He draws closer to the Lord and is imbued with His transforming and saving grace. Saint Theodore of Edessa writes that a prayerful connection with God purifies the mind, destroys passions, protects virtues and consoles in sorrows (“Philokalia”).

Who does such conspiracies help?

Just a few words about the necessary conditions for using such magic. They are simple. Conspiracies must be believed. Without this nothing will work. If you don't believe me, try it yourself. The second condition, which is recommended to be strictly observed, is the “secrecy of the ritual.” Do not discuss your decision with anyone, do not talk about your experience. If the information becomes known to outsiders, then you may simply be jinxed, thereby neutralizing all your efforts. If you decide to talk about the ritual, then wear an anti-evil eye bracelet.

Orthodox view of business and wealth

Business activity in itself is not something sinful. Archpriest Igor Pchelintsev notes:

“This is a tool like many other things in human activity. Trade will be sinful or virtuous depending on the attitude of the trader towards it.”

A businessman should not turn into an insatiable predator. If he conducts his business honestly and donates part of the profits to those in need, he will be blessed by God. Archpriest Alexander Novopashin reminds that the talent for doing business is given to a person by the Almighty. Therefore, an Orthodox entrepreneur will strive to glorify the Creator with his activities.

Orthodoxy does not see evil in wealth as such. The temptations that accompany it are destructive to the soul. Let us quote the words of Metropolitan Anthony (Pakanich):

“Wealth is a great test for a person, because it opens up many temptations for him. If wealth is given to us, we need to make the most of it to help our neighbors.”

Those who need a “prayer for success in business” should remember: material wealth should not subjugate a person and become an idol for him (Matthew 6:24). Orthodox Christians, first of all, need to strive for spiritual treasures. The Lord will not abandon the one who works to save his soul in earthly life (Matthew 6:33). Saint John Chrysostom teaches:

“Seek the blessings of the future and you will receive the present. Don’t look for visible things, and you will certainly receive them... When “God” sees that we do not desire earthly “blessings,” he allows us to use them, because then we own them as free men and as men, and not as children” ( "Creations")

Ritual in the morning

When a business is in a state of planning or is just gaining strength, having barely begun, a water ritual, which is carried out every morning for thirty days, can ensure its further success. It is the regularity of execution that is important. One missed day can negatively affect the results of the entire cycle of morning rituals.

So, in the morning, immediately after waking up, over the water with which they will wash, they read the text of a prayer, saying that any business started will certainly go uphill and bring income and benefit. The spell is recited once, then they wash themselves with the enchanted water, previously collected in a container:

“Water-water that runs sparkling, wash my face. Take away all the nastiness and give joy. As you nurture the roots of trees, I become rich. As soon as I start a business, I think about you. Amen".

Prayer for success in business is not Orthodoxy, but superstition

So, an Orthodox Christian can engage in honest business and ask God for help for this. However, in Orthodoxy there are no prayers “for money”, “for business”, “for success”, etc. Such formulations liken prayer to primitive magic spells or conspiracies.

Such texts are not resorted to as a humble prayer to God and an expression of trust in His Providence. Magic spells are used in a selfish desire to guarantee the satisfaction of one's whims. This “prayer for good luck in business” is read mechanically, without the participation of the soul. Saint Basil the Great instructs:

“In prayer one should not ask for the fulfillment of one’s own will, but to leave everything to God, who builds what is useful” (“Creations”).

You can ask the Lord, the Mother of God and the saints for help in your business both in your own words and using authentic Orthodox prayers. People often pray for successful entrepreneurship to those righteous people who were pious merchants in earthly life. For example, the medieval great martyr John of Sochava.

For material needs, it is also customary to turn to Saints Nicholas the Wonderworker and Spyridon of Trimifuntsky. However, dividing the righteous into “specializations” is just a convention. As well as a special “prayer for business success.” Therefore, you can ask for help in business from any sacred person in Orthodoxy. Entrepreneurs will also find prayers useful before starting and at the end of any good deed.

Who is Nicholas the Wonderworker

From the very first days, indescribable miracles happened around Nicholas. His mother had a serious illness, which suddenly disappeared after giving birth. During the baptism ceremony, the baby stood on his own for several hours without anyone helping him.

From early childhood, the Saint studied the Divine Scripture; he devoted his entire childhood to this matter. When he got a little older, as a young man, he became a priest. Everyone noted his development, which was incomparable with his age; believers treated him with great respect and admiration.

Nikolai spent all his strength on prayers and work. All those who came to him for help did not know refusal; he helped with everything he could. He sacrificed everything he had for the sake of others. But he never advertised his good deeds and tried to help people secretly. The list of his good deeds is almost endless.

One day, the Wonderworker threw money into the house of a man, who was completely ruined and in debt. He needed money so much that he was completely desperate and was ready to give his own daughters to harlots. After this good deed by Nicholas, the man’s family was saved from a terrible fate.

When Nicholas was making a trip to the Holy Land, he saw the devil himself entering the ship. This vision was interpreted by him as a terrible storm approaching, then the travelers asked the Wonderworker to pray for them and calm the sea. So, the ship sailed calmly to its destination, a large number of people were saved. Thanks to prayer, the sailor who was killed by falling from the mast of the ship was also resurrected.

Once he saved men from the death penalty. They were mistakenly sentenced to death, Nikolai stopped the executioner, thereby giving them life. He repeatedly saved people from poverty, torture, terrible hunger and death.

When mass persecution of Christians occurred, they were imprisoned. Nikolai, of course, was also convicted and was forced to live in monstrous conditions. But his faith was unshakable; even while in prison, he did good deeds. The Wonderworker supported other prisoners and gave them strength to stay in prison. But the Lord did everything so that Nikolai would be released without receiving serious damage.

Holy Great Martyr John! Look down from the heavenly palace on those who require your help and do not reject our petitions, but, as our constant benefactor and intercessor, pray to Christ God, that He who loves mankind and is abundantly merciful will save us from every cruel situation: from cowardice, flood, fire, sword, invasions of foreigners and internecine warfare.

May he not condemn us sinners for our iniquity, and may we not turn the good things given to us from the All-Bounteous God into evil, but into the glory of His holy name and into the glorification of your strong intercession. May the Lord, through your prayers, give us peace of mind, abstinence from harmful passions and all defilement, and may He strengthen throughout the world His One Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church, which He has acquired with His honest Blood.

Pray diligently, holy martyr, may Christ God bless the power, may He establish in His holy Orthodox Church the living spirit of right faith and piety, so that all its members, clean from wisdom and superstition, worship Him in spirit and truth and diligently care about keeping His commandments, May we all live in peace and piety in this present world and achieve blessed eternal life in heaven, by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, to Him belongs all glory, honor and power, together with the Father and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages.
