They think that if they say the cherished words every day, their children will grow up healthy, rich and happy. Such things have nothing to do with parental prayer. A real appeal to Heaven is when a loving and compassionate mother with a heart full of faith in repentance and humility asks the Almighty to send them grace and God's favor.
For a prayer appeal to be strong, communication with the Almighty must be alive. This means that when pronouncing texts written by saints, you need to pass each word through your heart, filling your request with faith and trust in the Lord. You need to send requests to Heaven in repentance and humility, realizing your sinfulness. Petitions must be offered with consistency, for the Lord said, “Knock and it will be opened.”
First of all, requests should be addressed to the Almighty. Prayers to the Most Holy Theotokos and saints will not replace the patronage of the Creator. The letter of James says, “The fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” Therefore, study the Holy Scripture, if you have sinned, repent, take communion, love God and your neighbor with all your heart.
You can offer prayers in your own words. However, when you feel the need for longer prayers and words are not enough, pray according to Scripture or use a prayer book. There are prayers composed by saints.
You can pray in front of the image. There are a large number of prayer requests in front of the icon of the Mother of God. But we must understand that we are not praying to an image. The icon creates a certain atmosphere and helps set the heart in the right way.
Another type of appeal to the Lord is reading akathists. These are praises. The mother can choose a specific praise and read it while turning to the Lord.
