Prayers for the dying Litany Prayers for the dying Vigil at the body of the deceased Litany prayer for the deceased Final doxology
Prayers for the deceased Commemoration of the deceased For the deceased after a long illness For the deceased suddenly For deceased parents For the deceased, on the anniversary of death Daily intention for the deceased
Every Christian who has put on Christ in Baptism on earth shares his labors and efforts with Him, and dies in Him. For a Christian, as for every person, death is associated with pain, but illuminated by the hope of resurrection. The Lord Jesus Christ says: “I am the resurrection and the life; He who believes in Me, even if he dies, will live” (John 11:25). For a Christian who has put on Christ in this life through faith and love remains with Him in death as well. Like Christ, he passes from earth into eternity in order to be united with Him forever. In order to make his participation in the death of Christ more complete, a Christian in the sacrament of Baptism commits himself to tirelessly dying to sin and living a new life.
The Church, which accompanies a Christian at all important moments of his life, does not leave him in death. At this important and difficult moment of human life, the Church offers the Last Parting Word (Viatic) - the Eucharist, according to the word of the Lord: “This is the bread that came down from heaven... whoever eats this bread will live forever” (John 6:58).
The family has a responsibility to ensure that a dying patient can receive Viatic, even if he or she has taken it once before in similar circumstances.
The dying person should put a candle in his hand or place it next to him. If the dying person is conscious, he should be reminded that when performing the sacrament of Baptism, he received a similar candle with parting words, so that with a soul filled with sanctifying grace, he would go out to meet the Divine Bridegroom.
Those gathered around the dying man's bed should pray diligently and earnestly.

Preparing for Confession
They offer the following recommendations for preparing for a dying confession:
- If possible, turn to the Lord in prayer as often as possible.
- When reading “Our Father,” remember what you have lived and your sins, starting from childhood. In prayers, repent and ask God for forgiveness for all serious sins, writing them down for confession.
According to the clergy, the main thing is the desire to be responsible for your sins, not blaming anyone and forgiving everyone, even if there is a share of someone’s guilt. This is one of the main conditions for the fullness of repentance.
Prayers near the dying
If the hour of death is approaching, one of those present can recite the following prayers:
Christian soul, you leave this world in the name of God the Father Almighty, Who created you; in the name of Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God, who suffered for you; in the name of the Holy Spirit, which descended upon you. May you rest in peace today and dwell in sacred Zion with the Most Holy Theotokos the Virgin Mary, with Saint Joseph and with all the Angels and Saints.
Dear brother (dear sister), I give you to Almighty God, your Creator, so that you return (return) to the One who created you from the dust of the earth. When you leave this life, may the Most Holy Theotokos, the Virgin Mary, and all the Angels and saints come out to meet you.
May Christ, who suffered for you on the cross, deliver you. May Christ, who gave his life for you, deliver you from eternal death. May Christ, the Son of the Living God, bring you to paradise, and may the true Shepherd number you among His sheep. May He forgive you all your sins and accept you among His chosen ones.
May you see your Redeemer face to face and be comforted by the contemplation of God forever and ever. Amen.

Lord Jesus Christ, we entrust Your servant N to You and we pray to You, Redeemer of the world, to graciously accept him (her) into Your Kingdom and bestow eternal joy, for the sake of Your merciful descent from heaven.
You can also sing or read the antiphon:
Hail, Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, joy and hope, glory. We cry to You, the exiled children of Eve. We sigh to You, groaning and weeping in this valley of tears. O our Intercessor! Fix Thy merciful glances upon us, and after this exile show us Jesus, the blessed fruit of Thy womb. O meek, O good, O sweet Virgin Mary.

The demise of man
If the patient’s situation is hopeless, then with obvious signs of approaching death, the priest reads the departure prayer - “Canon of prayer for the separation of the soul from the body” or more fully it is called “Canon of prayer for our Lord Jesus Christ and the Most Pure Theotokos Mother of the Lord for the separation of the soul from the body of every true believer " Relatives themselves can read this canon if it is impossible to invite a priest, except for reading the “prayer spoken by the priest for the outcome of the soul,” which is at the end of the canon. This canon is read “on behalf of a person who is separated from his soul and cannot speak” and is found in Orthodox prayer books. The reading of the canon by lay people begins with the exclamation: “Through the prayers of the saints, our father, Lord Jesus Christ our God, have mercy on us,” then the initial prayers follow: “The Trisagion,” “The Most Holy Trinity,” “Our Father,” and then according to the prayer book. When reading the canon, a candle and a lamp are lit in front of the home holy icon. If there is no icon at home, then you must definitely purchase icons of the Savior and the Mother of God from the church. For dying infants (children under seven years old), due to the absence of sins listed in the canon, which are unusual for them due to their infancy, the canon is not read. In addition to the canon for the separation of the soul from the body, there is also “The rite performed for the separation of the soul from the body when a person has suffered for a long time.” This rite is read over a person who is experiencing severe death torments and cannot die (as a rule, it is read by a priest). After the death of a person, the Sequence on the departure of the soul from the body is immediately read over him.
Canon of prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ and the Most Pure Theotokos Mother of the Lord during the separation of the soul from the body of every true believer
The abbot, his spiritual father, comes to the worldly, and asks if there is some word, or a deed for the sake of oblivion, or cold, or what kind of malice towards some brother is unconfessed, or is unforgiven, everything must be sought and asked one by one to the dying person.
Therefore the priest begins:
Blessed is our God... (or worldly: Through the prayers of the saints our fathers, Lord Jesus Christ our God, have mercy on us). Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us. Our Father, who art in heaven ! Hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, as it is in heaven and on earth. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, just as we forgive our debtors; and do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. Lord, have mercy (12 times) Come, let us worship our King God. (Bow) Come, let us bow and fall down to Christ, our King God. (Bow) Come, let us bow and fall down to Christ Himself, the King and our God. (Bow) Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your great mercy, and according to the multitude of Your compassions, cleanse my iniquity. Above all, wash me from my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin; for I know my iniquity, and I will take away my sin before me. To You alone have I sinned and done evil before You; for you may be justified in all Your words and be victorious, and never judge You. Behold, I was conceived in iniquity, and my mother gave birth to me in sins. Behold, you have loved the truth; You have revealed to me the unknown and secret wisdom of Yours. Sprinkle me with hyssop, and I will be cleansed; Wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. My hearing brings joy and joy; humble bones will rejoice. Turn Your face away from my sins and cleanse all my iniquities. Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a right spirit in my womb. Do not cast me away from Your presence and do not take Your Holy Spirit away from me. Reward me with the joy of Your salvation and strengthen me with the Lord’s Spirit. I will teach the wicked Your way, and the wicked will turn to You. Deliver me from bloodshed, O God, God of my salvation; My tongue will rejoice in Your righteousness. Lord, open my mouth, and my mouth will declare Your praise. As if you had desired sacrifices, you would have given them: you do not favor burnt offerings. The sacrifice to God is a broken spirit; God will not despise a broken and humble heart. Bless Zion, O Lord, with Your favor, and may the walls of Jerusalem be built. Then favor the sacrifice of righteousness, the offering and the burnt offering; Then they will place the bullock on Your altar.
Canon of prayer on behalf of a person whose soul is separated and unable to speak, voice 6
Song 1
Irmos: As Israel walked across the dry land, with footsteps across the abyss, seeing the persecutor Pharaoh drowned, we sing a victorious song to God, crying out. Chorus: Most Holy Theotokos, save us. My days are like drops of rain, evil and malaria, their summer circulation is becoming impoverished, little by little they are already disappearing, Lady, save me. Chorus: Most Holy Theotokos, save us. With Your compassion and Your many bounties, O Lady, I naturally bow down, in this terrible hour, appearing as the Invincible Helper. Chorus: Most Holy Theotokos, save us. My soul now contains a great fear, an inscrutable and painful trembling that can never be removed from my body, O Most Pure One, I will comfort you. Glory: A well-known refuge for sinners and the humble, inform me of Your mercy, O Pure One, and deliver the demonic hands, as if many psychos had surrounded me. And now: This is the time of help, this is the time of Your intercession, this, Lady, is the time for which, day and night, we feel warm and pray to You.
Song 2
Irmos: There is nothing holy like You, O Lord my God, who has lifted up the horn of Your faithful, O Good One, and established us on the rock of Your confession. From afar this day, the Lady, having foreseen and thought of him as if he had come, praying with warm tears not to forget me. My thoughts are roaring, and they are looking to seize and tear me to pieces, the Highlander, whose teeth, Pure One, crush their jaws and save me. I have lost my verbal organ, and my tongue has become tied, and my voice has closed, in a contrite heart I pray to Thee, my Savior, save me. Glory: Incline Your ear to me, Christ my God Mother, from the height of the many glory of Your Good One, and hear the final groaning, and lend my hand. And now: Do not turn away Your many bounties from me, do not close Your humane womb, O Pure One; but stand before me now, and at the hour of judgment remember me.
Song 3
Irmos: Christ is my strength, God and Lord, the honest Church sings divinely, crying out, pure in meaning, celebrating in the Lord. Repentance from sin, now lay down a tearful current, O Good One, who accept contrition of my heart: in Thee I affirm my hope, O Good One, when Thou hast delivered me from the terrible fiery torment, for Thou art the very source of grace, O Theotokos. A shameless and infallible refuge for all who are in need, the Most Immaculate Lady, be my Intercessor in the hour of trial. Having stretched out Your most pure and most honorable hand, like a sacred dove’s wing, cover me under the shelter and canopy of those, O Lady. Glory: The aerial prince of the rapist, the tormentor, the upholder of terrible paths and the vain tester of these words, grant me permission to pass without restraint, leaving the earth. And now: Behold, O Lady, you will put away the fear that you were afraid of: behold, a great feat has embraced me, in which be my Helper, the Hope of my salvation.
Song 4
Irmos: With God's light, O Blessed One, illumine the souls of You in the morning with love, I pray, lead You, the Word of God, the True God, calling out from the darkness of sin. Do not forget me, O Good One, turn Your face away from me, Your servant, but hear me as I grieve, and take in my soul, and deliver this. Those who are my relatives in the flesh, and my brethren in the spirit, and my friends, and those who know the customs, cry, sigh, lament, for I am now separated from you. Now you deliver in no way and truly help no one; Help me, Lady, so that not as a helpless person, I will be shut up in the hands of my enemy. Glory: Having entered, my holy Angels, stand before the judgment seat of Christ, bow your knees in thought, cry out to Him in tears: have mercy, O Creator of all, the work of Your hands, O Good One, and do not reject it. And now: Having venerated the Lady and Most Pure Mother of my God, pray that He will kneel with you and bow Him to mercy: For the Mother of existence and the Nourisher will be heard.
Song 5
Irmos: The sea of life, raised in vain by misfortunes and storms, has flowed to Your quiet refuge, crying to You: lift up my belly from aphids, O Most Merciful One. My lips are silent, and my tongue does not speak, but my heart speaks: for this fire of contrition, consuming itself, burns within, and voices that cannot be uttered call to You, O Virgin. Look down on me from above, Mother of God, and mercifully attend my visit now, so that having seen You, I will depart from my body rejoicing. We are torn apart by the joints, we are torn apart by the laws of natural condensation, and the composition of everything corporeal, they create unbearable need and crowding. Glory: Holy Angels offer me to the sacred and honest hands, Lady, as though I have covered myself with those wings, I do not see the dishonest and stinking and gloomy image of demons. And now: O Most Honorable Lord of God, vouchsafe me to the heavenly intelligent palace, having burned my faded and non-shining candle with the holy oil of Thy mercy.
Kontakion, tone 6
My soul, my soul, arise, what have you written down, the end is approaching, and you need to say: arise, then, that Christ God, who is everywhere and fulfills everything, will have mercy on you. Ikos: Seeing the healing of Christ open, and from this Adam exuded health, having suffered, the devil was wounded, as if he accepted troubles, sobbing, and cried out to his friend: what will I do to the Son of Mary? The Bethlehemite is killing me, Who is everywhere and does everything.
Song 6
Irmos: For the venerable youth, the Angel made the furnace that gave birth, and the Chaldeans, the scorching command of God, exhorted the tormentor to cry out: Blessed art thou, O God of our fathers. The night of death is unprepared for me to comprehend, it is gloomy and moonless, forbiddingly unprepared for this long terrible path: may Your mercy travel with me, Lady. Behold, all my days have truly disappeared in vanity, as it is written, and my years with diligence, and the snares of death have truly and bitterly preceded my soul, even if they will hold me. May my many sins not be able to overcome Your many compassions, Lady; but may Your mercy pass me by and cover all my iniquities. Glory: Those who take me away from here find me, containing me everywhere: but my soul puts off and fears, much is filled with rebellion, but I am consoled, Pure One, by Your appearance. And now: I have found the one saddened in my sorrow, below the one who consoles me, O Lady, for my friends and knowledge together have left me now; but, my Hope, never leave me.
Song 7
Irmos: You poured out dew from the flames of the saints, and you burned the righteous sacrifice with water, for you did everything, O Christ, only as you willed. We extol You forever. As the Humane-loving Mother of God, with a quiet and merciful eye, when my soul is separated from the body, I glorify You forever, Holy Mother of God. Let me flee from the barbarians of the fleshless regiments and the abysses of the air to arise, and vouchsafe to lift me up to Heaven, so that I may glorify Thee forever, Holy Mother of God. Having given birth to the Lord Almighty, the bitter ordeals of the ruler of the world have been cast away far from me, I always want to die, but I glorify You forever, Holy Mother of God. Glory: On the great last trumpet, on the terrible and menacing resurrection of judgment, to all who rise again, remember me then, Holy Mother of God. And now: The High Lord of Christ, having sent Your grace from above, precedes me now on the day of embitterment, so that I may all glorify You forever, Holy Mother of God.
Song 8
It is impossible for a person to see God; they do not dare to look at an unworthy angel. By you, O All-Pure One, the Word Incarnate became man. With His majesty, we please You with the heavenly howls. Oh, how I will see the Invisible One; what a terrible vision will I endure? How dare I open my eyes? How can I dare to see my Lord, who has never ceased to grieve me from my youth? Holy Mother of God, Mother of God, mercifully look upon my humility, accept my tender and last prayer, and strive to deliver me from the tormenting eternal fire. Having desecrated the holy temples, leaving behind the filthy and corporeal temple, I pray to You, God’s All-Honorable Temple, O Virgin Mother, my soul, to flee from the utter darkness and the fierce burning of Gehenna. Glory: In vain the end of my life is near, and thinking about placeless thoughts and deeds, O All-Pure One, my soul-worker, I am fiercely wounded by the arrows of conscience, but bowing down mercifully, be my Representative. And now: A Son will be given to us for mercy, the Son of God, and the Angelic King, the Eternal Man has passed from Thy pure blood. Appease him, O Young Lady, who is more passionate than my soul, more fiercely torn from my damned body. Also: It is worthy to eat as one truly blesses Theotokos, Ever-Blessed and Most Immaculate and Mother of our God. We magnify You, the most honorable Cherub and the most glorious without comparison Seraphim, who gave birth to God the Word without corruption.

Prayer spoken from the priest for the outcome of the soul
Master, Lord Almighty, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Who wants all mankind to be saved and to come into the mind of truth, not wanting death for the sinner, but conversion and life; We pray and pray to Tydeus, release the soul of Thy servant (name) from every bond and from every oath of freedom, leave his sins, even from youth, known and unknown, in deed and word, and purely confessed, or forgotten, or hidden in cold . For You alone are the One who resolves the bound and corrects the broken, the hope of the hopeless, who is able to forgive the sins of every person who has trust in You. Commanded her, O philanthropic Lord, to be released from the bonds of the flesh and sin, and receive into the world the soul of this servant (name), and rest in the eternal abodes with Your saints, by the grace of Your Only Begotten Son, the Lord God and our Savior Jesus Christ, with Him you are blessed, with Your Most Holy and Good and Life-giving Spirit, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.
Prayer that God would grant us zeal for prayer for the departed and would accept it
Most merciful and all-merciful Lord, Lord and Judge of the living and the dead, our God, wondrous and inscrutable in His destinies! You see the sorrows, sorrows and illnesses that overwhelm us, and you hear our sighs, and listen to our voice. How then, in our many sorrows, will our souls find consolation and peace, if not through Your prosperity, O Omnipotent Savior? For You are our God, and don’t we know otherwise to You? Accept, O Lord who loves mankind, our prayer, which we offer to You with all our hearts and with all our soul. Weigh, Lord, that we are not pleased with the prayer worthy of bringing to You; but the All-Good One Himself, teach us how to pray to Ty. Warm our hearts with the warmth of Your Holy Spirit, so that our prayer will not be in vain for the souls of Your servants who have departed from us, and grant us to dare to call upon You, Heavenly God the Father, with boldness and without condemnation, for You are our hope and refuge; We fall before You, worshiped and glorified our God in the Trinity, and to You alone we offer our prayer in our sorrows and illnesses, in joy and sorrow, for You are our consolation, our joy, our treasure and the Giver of our life: from You all things come every deed is good and every gift is perfect. For this reason, we dare to cry out to You with our mortal lips: hear us, O God, hear us sinners praying to You; incline Your ear to our prayer and let our cry come to You. Accept, Most Blessed Lord, our prayer for the souls of your departed servants, like a fragrant censer. Brought to you. Drive away from us all evil thoughts; create in us, O God, a pure heart and a contrite spirit; instill in us, O God, the root of good things—Your fear in our hearts; see our tears, see our lamentation; behold our sorrows, behold those who weep bitterly for Thy servant (Thy) (name) who has passed away to Thee, and rest him (s) in Thy Kingdom, for Thou art the Life, Resurrection and Rest of Thy servants who have fallen asleep, and to Thee we send glory, as the Beginningless Father with Your Only Begotten Son and Your All-Holy and Good and Life-Giving Spirit always, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.
Prayer for the departure of the soul from the body
God of Spirits and all flesh! You create Your angels, Your spirits, and Your servants, Your fiery flame. Cherubim and Seraphim tremble before You, and thousands of thousands stand before Your Throne with fear and trembling. For those who want to improve their salvation, You send Your holy Angels to serve; You also give to us sinners Your holy Angel, like a mentor, who kept us in all our paths from all evil and mysteriously instructed and admonished us even until our last breath. God! Thou hast commanded to take the soul away from Thy servant (Thy servant) (name), whom we ever remember, Thy will is the holy will; We pray to Thee, Life-Giver Lord, do not now take away from his (her) soul this nurturer and guardian of it, and do not leave me alone as I walk on the path; commanded him, as a guardian, not to go away with help in this terrible passage of her into the invisible world of heaven; We pray to You that He will be her intercessor and protector from the evil enemy during the ordeal, until he brings You to You, as to the Judge of heaven and earth. Oh, this passage is terrible for the soul that is coming to Thy impartial judgment, and that in the course of this passage will be tormented by the spirits of wickedness in the heavens! Moreover, we pray to You, Most Good Lord, to favor and send Your holy Angels to the soul of Your servant (Thy servant) (name) who has reposed to You, so that they will protect, protect and preserve me from the attack and torment of these terrible and evil spirits, as torturers and tax collectors of the air, servants of the prince of darkness; We pray to Thee, free this evil situation, so that a horde of evil demons does not gather; grant me the honor to fearlessly, kindly and unrestrainedly take away this terrible path from the earth with your angels, may they lift you up to worship
The everlasting psalter
The indefatigable Psalter is read not only about health, but also about peace. Since ancient times, ordering a commemoration on the Everlasting Psalter has been considered a great alms for a departed soul.
It is also good to order the Indestructible Psalter for yourself; you will feel the support. And one more important point, but far from the least important, there is eternal remembrance on the Undying Psalter. It seems expensive, but the result is more than millions of times more than the money spent. If this is still not possible, then you can order for a shorter period. It's also good to read for yourself.
Order from the monastery in Jerusalem
Prayer to the Guardian Angel
Holy Guardian Angel, given to the deceased servant of God (servant of God) (name)! Do not cease to protect his (her) soul from these evil and terrible demons; be her nurturer and comforter there, in that invisible world of spirits; take me under your wing and lead me without restraint through the gates of the airy tormentors; appear as an intercessor and prayer book for her with God - pray to Him the Most Good, that she may not be brought down to a place of darkness, but may he restore her, where the non-evening Light abides.
Prayer to the Blessed Virgin Mary
Holy Lady Theotokos! We resort to You, our Intercessor: You are a quick helper, our never-ending intercessor with God! Most of all, we pray to Thee at this hour: help Thy newly departed servant (Thy servant) (name) to cross this terrible and unknown path; We pray to Thee, Lady of the world, by Thy power to drive away from his (her) fear-driven soul the terrible powers of dark spirits, so that they may be confused and put to shame before Thee; free the air tax collectors from torture, destroy their councils and overthrow them as malicious enemies. Be her, O All-Merciful Lady Theotokos, an intercessor and protector from the airy prince of darkness, the tormentor and the terrible paths of the champion; We pray to You, Most Holy Theotokos, to protect us through Your honorable robe, so that He may pass from earth to heaven without fear and without restraint. We pray to Thee, our Intercessor, intercede for Thy servant (Thy servant) with Thy motherhood before the Lord with boldness; We pray to You, our Help, help him (her), who has to be judged even before the Last Judgment Seat, help him to be justified before God, as the Creator of heaven and earth, and implore Your Only Begotten Son, the Lord God and our Savior Jesus Christ, may he rest the deceased in the bosom of Abraham with the righteous and all the saints. Amen.
Second prayer for all deceased Orthodox Christians in the faith
God of generosity and all grace! Look down from the heights of Thy Holy Dwelling upon us, sinners and unworthy Thy servants, praying to You and asking for the remission of debts to Thy deceased servant (s). We pray to Thee, Eternal Goodness, do not enter into judgment with Thy servant (s), as a creation of Thy Wisdom, but rather grant him (s) mercy; Show him (her) Thy compassion, O All-Good Master, and do not turn him (it) away from Thy presence, O Lord of mankind: save his (her) soul from eternal death, which is the second death, so that the deceased may not cease glorify Your infinite goodness and exalt Your name forever. You, the Knower of the Heart, know the deeds, intentions and thoughts of Your deceased servant (Your servant) and all the good and evil things he (she) has done are naked and declared before You. But what is all our goodness before You, Holy One? Like a drop in the sea, so is before You and before Your righteousness and Holiness all our good things done in this world. Our sins are immeasurable; Great and heavy is the burden of our sins, but inexpressibly great and boundless are the merits of Your Only Begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, Whom You gave to us sinners out of Your boundless love, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life. We are great sinners before You and unworthy of Your mercy, but Your love for mankind makes us worthy; Our iniquities are great, but Your mercy is inexhaustible: the immeasurable merits of Your Beloved Son, who offered Himself as a sacrifice for our sins, conquer all sin, all lawlessness; For this reason, with tenderness and with boldness we pray to Thee, the Source of our life, with boldness of hope we pray that Thy deceased servant (Thy servant) (name) may assimilate these precious redemptive and saving merits of Thy Only Begotten Son; We beg Your mercy with tears of contrition, cover the sins of Your departed servant (Thy servant) with the greatness of these dearest merits of our Redeemer; forgive all his (her) sins and do not destroy him (her) with his (her) iniquities in fiery hell. Spare, have mercy, Master, Thy servant (Thy servant) (name) who has gone to You and deliver him from eternal torment, deliver him for the sake of the immeasurable and unspeakable spiritual sorrows and illnesses of Your Only Begotten Son, suffered by Him before drinking the bitter cup of His suffering; spare him (s) and save him from eternal death for the sake of reproach and beating of our Savior, for the sake of strangulation and spitting; have mercy for the sake of His dearest Blood, which was shed from His most pure ribs. We pray to Thee, Father of generosity and all mercy, with His most pure and life-giving wounds, His holy Blood, heal the deadly and sinful ulcers of Thy deceased servant (Thy servant), and so may he be healed spiritually and may he be honored in Thy unapproachable light, Light-Giver Lord , glorify and glorify Your Most Holy Name forever. Amen.
Prayer for all deceased Orthodox Christians in the faith
First prayer
Master, Most Merciful and All-Merciful Lord Jesus Christ our God! You are merciful to us sinners and Your mercy has no end: because you did not want our eternal destruction, you declared in advance: “I do not want the death of a sinner, but rather that he should turn and live.” Glory to Your mercy! Glory to Your looking! Glory to Your long-suffering, O Lord! With all our hearts, with all our souls, we thank Thee, our God, for Thou hast vouchsafed Thy deceased servant (Thy servant) (name) to confess his sins to Thee on his sick bed. But You, Lord, are the only One who knows everything, weigh, since his (her) sins are severe, but we pray to You, accept Your servant (Your servant), who has gone to You even if he was a sinner, but not unrepentant ( -oh), and reward him (her) according to his (her) repentant heart. And just as You accept a single word, and a single sigh, and a single drop of tears from someone confessing to You with a pure and contrite heart, we therefore pray to You, Holy One of the Heart, now accept from us our prayer for the deceased, listen to our prayers in the voice , and we are heard; With a tender soul and a contrite heart, we pray to You, Lord, look with Your all-merciful eye on Your deceased servant (Your servant) (name) who repented to You and fell with the immaterial fire of Your Holy Spirit all the thorns of his (her) sins. unconfessed before Your face. If Your deceased servant (Your servant) in repentance falls into oblivion because of the weakness of nature, or a serious illness, or fear for the sake of the hour of death, it is not possible for him to repent before You in contrition and tenderness of heart, O Lord, then I will be able to bring You fruits worthy repentance, we ask with tenderness, we pray to Thee, our Savior, fill his (her) repentance with the prayers of Thy Holy Church and all Thy saints who have pleased Thee from the ages, most of all, fill this spiritual poverty with Thy goodness, Thy dearest redemptive and saving merits; and just as you justified the publican, and you had mercy on the thief who prayed to You on the cross, we hereby pray to You: have mercy on the one who has come to You with faith and hope and forgive him (her) every sin, voluntary and involuntary, in word, deed, knowledge and what was done in ignorance, and thus will appear before Thy face without condemnation on the day of Thy great and Terrible Judgment. We pray to Thee, our dearest Redeemer, to grant Thy deceased servant (Thy servant) (name) to enter Thy Kingdom, as one who, by Thy goodness, has been deemed worthy to partake of Thy holy, terrible and life-giving Mysteries for the remission of sins and for life eternal. You, Lord, with your most pure lips declared: “Whoever eats My Flesh and drinks My Blood will have eternal life.” You, Lord, You Yourself have granted Your deceased servant (Your servant) to partake of Your most pure Body and Your most pure Blood, as a guarantee of eternal bliss; For this reason we again pray to Thee: may Thy holy and life-giving Mysteries be to him (her), like a coal, burning up all his (her) sins, all his (her) iniquities and unrighteousness, may they be for cleansing, sanctification, justification and remission of sins , and as a guarantee of life and eternal bliss. Amen
Second prayer for all deceased Orthodox Christians in the faith
Lord, Lord! How inevitable, how terrible is Thy impartial and unchangeably eternal Judgment! In great and trembling confusion, our spirit is troubled, our heart trembles and melts away, like wax, from the single announcement of Your immutable verb about the last Judgment; the tongue is silent from the single expectation of the voice of the last trumpet of the Archangel, which has the power to awaken from the dead and call from the living to Your Last Judgment from the east and west, from the north and south. Oh, that day is truly terrible, on which you will come, O God, to earth in glory with the Angels and all the saints! Then everything above and below will appear with fear and trembling, and the hordes of the underworld will tremble before You, Judge of this world; call heaven and earth to Judgment, to judge the universe in righteousness and truth! That day is terrible, in which thrones will be set up, books will be opened, and our open and secret deeds, words and thoughts will be exposed before You, before Angels and men, and together they will be condemned: for nothing, Lord, is hidden with You, and then it will not be revealed, and secretly, so that no one will know. Who will be able, Judge of this world, to stand before Your face and the whole world above and below! Even if the righteous man barely escapes, how will the wicked and sinful stand? And who will stand up for us, if not Your mercy, Lord? Where shall we flee from Thy righteous Judgment? Oh, have mercy, have mercy then on us and on Thy servant (Thy servant) (name) who has gone to You and who is always remembered by us, and do not then condemn him (her) to eternal torment because of his (her) sin. Deign then, O Most Merciful Lord, to accept into Thy heavenly and mental altar our sacrifices for him (nu) - our prayers and alms, like a fragrant censer, coupled with the prayers and bloodless priesthood of the shepherds of Thy Holy Church, that Thy Holy Church may not be ashamed before Thee, before the Angels and the whole world, your departed servant (thy servant). Hear us, our God, and do not completely reject us; see those who kneel and prostrate themselves before You, O Lord; hear those asking Your mercy and the Kingdom of Heaven for Your departed servant(s). We pray to You, O Most Merciful and Most Generous Jesus, when You come with Your Saints Angels to judge the world, have mercy, have mercy then. Savior, Thy creation: the image is of Thy ineffable glory. With a contrite heart, we pray, we ask Thee, our Savior and Redeemer, do not condemn Thy servant (Thy servant) (name) by Thy righteous judgment to eternal torment, even if he is worthy of all condemnation and torment; do not separate him (s) from the flock of Thy chosen ones, but, according to Thy ineffable mercy, long-suffering and love for us sinners and unworthy servants of Thy, for the sake of Thy dearest merits, grant him (s) worthy, O Lord, of Thy Kingdom, which Thou hast prepared for those who love Thee from the foundation of the world, and let him enter into the place of rest, praising Your all-holy and magnificent Name, glorifying Your ineffable mercy, magnifying Your love for mankind and Your generosity, for You are the God of mercy and generosity, and we send glory to You, with Your beginningless Father, the Most Holy and Good and By Your life-giving Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.
Prayer for the Dying
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, intercede, save, have mercy and preserve God, by Your grace the soul of Your servant (name), and do not remember the sins of his youth and ignorance, and grant him a Christian death, shameless and peaceful, and may his soul not see the gloomy gaze of the crafty demons, may Your bright and luminous Angels receive him, and at Your Last Judgment be merciful to him, for Yours is the only Lord who will have mercy and save us.

Vigil at the body of the deceased
In many parishes, the ancient custom of prayer at the tomb of the deceased and hymns offered by relatives and friends is preserved. The latest liturgical rules recommend the celebration of the Liturgy of the Word, which can be led by a lay person.
Below is a sample of such service.
Primate: In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
God, Your Son broke the bonds of death and ascended into heaven; honor Your deceased servant (Your deceased servant) to participate in this victory over death, so that he (she can) forever behold You, his Creator and Redeemer. Through Christ our Lord.
All: Amen.
(funeral chant follows)
Primate: God, open our hearts to Your word, so that we may find light in darkness, confidence that comes from faith in our doubts, and consolation in our sadness. Through Christ our Lord.
All: Amen.
Then 2 or 3 fragments of Holy Scripture are read. Prem 3, 1-9; Pres 4, 7-15; 2 Macc 12, 43-45; Rom 6, 5-9; 1 Cor 15, 51-57; 2 Cor 4, 14-15; 2 Cor 5, 1. 6-10; Phil 3, 20-21; 1 John 3, 1-2; Matthew 11, 25-30; Matthew 25, 1-13; Luke 7, 11-17; Luke 12, 35-40; John 5, 24-29; John 6, 37-40; John 6, 51-58; John 12, 23-26; John 14, 1-6.
Between readings, you can sing the refrain “I believe that my Redeemer lives.” After the reading, the following litany follows.
Secret of Confession
One of the obstacles to making a dying confession is the fear that the clergyman who accepted the confession will tell someone about what he heard from the dying person. According to current legislation, the secret of confession is protected by law, that is, a priest cannot be forced to testify about what he learned during confession.
This applies only to clergy. If a confession is received by a non-clergy person, its disclosure is not prohibited by law. But, as a rule, confessions are accepted by priests, who are obliged to keep everything secret.
PRAYERS FOR THE DECEASED
Almighty God, hear our prayers offered with faith in Your Risen Son, and strengthen our hope that together with Your departed servant (Your deceased servant), we will all be worthy of resurrection. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God forever and ever. Amen.
+
God, Almighty Father, the mystery of the cross is our strength, and the Resurrection of Your Son is the foundation of our hope; free Your deceased servant (Your deceased servant) from the bonds of death and number him (her) among the saved. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Do prayers for the terminally ill help?
Many Christians, having received the sad news of an incurable illness, ask the question “For what?”, but we need to ask: “For what?” The Lord is merciful, leading a person through trials, He brings the sick and suffering to churches through cleansing and repentance of the soul, opening the doors of the Heavenly Kingdom.
When sick, a person must pray from a pure heart, having strong faith
Prayer for a fatal illness - maximum trust in God and faith in His healing power through the mediation of the Saints. An appeal to the Creator is not a conspiracy. Be careful when choosing a prayer request from the suggested prayers.
Important! The difference between prayer and conspiracy is that when pronouncing the words of a conspiracy, a person believes in these words, and when reading prayer requests, all hope is placed on God, and all glory is given to Him alone.
In every church there are confirmations of healings from icons or records after the service, but often the disease returns, because the one who has received forgiveness returns to a sinful lifestyle and soon dies. When addressing the saints, one should remember that they are mediators between the Lord and people, all glory is given to the Holy Trinity and the Mother of God.
About diseases:
- About infertility
- About depression
- What diseases are given for what sins
Man is weak, he lacks patience and faith, but there are saints who have gone through suffering and hardship, who have retained faith and given miracles of healing. When reading prayers, you should listen to the meaning of each word, “absorb” it into your heart and soul, experience and believe in the fulfillment of your request.
There is no disease in the world against which prayer is powerless, but there are many reasons that hinder the victory of healing. When receiving a terrible diagnosis, a person is overwhelmed by fear, despair, panic and constant nervousness.
Sincere prayer promotes easy and rapid recovery
There are not isolated cases when a person died not from illness, but from fear. Mothers who received news of their child’s cancer died from heart disease, and the children successfully completed the course of treatment and received healing through the prayers of their father and relatives.
Saint Luke, being a doctor himself, argued that when reading prayers, calm comes, peace comes, hope is born, which leads to healing.
Complete funeral prayer
This prayer is worth asking the Lord for help and intercession for a deceased friend or relative, reading it in the morning or evening:
“Remember, Lord Jesus Christ, our God, Thy mercy and generosity from the present world, for whose sake thou art made man, and crucifixion and death, for the sake of the salvation of those who believe in Thee, thou hast deigned to endure; and rose from the dead, you ascended into heaven and sit at the right hand of God the Father, and look upon the humble prayers of those who call upon You with all their hearts: incline Your ear, and hear the humble prayer of me, Your indecent servant, in the stench of the spiritual fragrance, brought to You for all Your people . And in the first place, remember Thy Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church, which Thou hast provided with Thy venerable Blood, and established, and strengthened, and expanded, multiplied, pacified, and preserved the insurmountable gates of hell forever; Calm the tearing of the Churches, quench the pagan vacillations, and quickly destroy and eradicate the heresies of uprising, and turn them into nothingness by the power of Your Holy Spirit.
Shahada and dua of a dying Muslim
Before death, a Muslim must recite the shahada “La ilahe illal lakh.” Muhammadun rasulul lah" (“I testify that there is no other deity but Allah and I also testify that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah”). If the dying man’s strength has left him, this testimony of faith in one God and in the messenger mission of the Prophet Muhammad is whispered in his ear.
In addition, the dua prayer of the dying person can be said: “Laya ilyayahe illal laakh, inne lil mavti sakyaraat. Allahumma gfirlii, va rhamnii, wa alhiknii bir rafiikil a'lya. Allahumma a'inniy 'alaya gama raatil mavti va sakyaraatil mavt" (“There is no god but the One Lord. Truly, terrible torments accompany death. O Almighty, forgive me and have mercy. Raise me to the highest society. Help me pass [with patience and faith] through the death throes").
Question and answer
Are there special Buddhist prayers before death?
In the Buddhist tradition, it is especially important that the dying person be conscious. At the same time, he should repeat the “Refuge” mantra out loud or mentally. Its translation: “I, together with all living beings, seek refuge with the Buddha, Dharma and Sangha until we all achieve Enlightenment.”
Where can I find the text of the “Canon of Prayer”?
It is located in the Orthodox Prayer Book.
Is it possible to somehow alleviate the condition of an Orthodox Christian who is losing his life long and painfully?
Saint Andrew of Crete wrote a special “Rite for the separation of the soul from the body, when a person suffers for a long time.” Following the usual beginning, it includes psalms 69, 142 and 50, the canon, the prayer “It is worthy to eat,” then “A prayer for the judged soul” and “Another prayer for the long-suffering to die.” These prayers can also be read by an Orthodox layperson. In this case, instead of priestly exclamations, the Jesus Prayer is said, and those prayers that are supposed to be read by the priest are skipped.
