In the Orthodox faith there are many great martyrs to whom the fair half of society prays. These are: Saint Catherine of Alexandria, Faith, Hope, Love and Sophia, Xenia of Petersburg, Anna the Prophetess. A special place is occupied by Paraskeva Pyatnitsa, whose powerful prayers send women a long-awaited child or groom, about conception, about the birth of a girl, etc.
Life of Saint Paraskeva
The name Paraskeva has ancient Greek roots and is translated as “on the eve of Saturday.” The girl’s parents were wealthy people, but for a long time they did not have children and prayed for a child every Friday. In the Orthodox faith, Friday has a special meaning. It was on this day that Christ was crucified. When, by God's grace, a girl was born into the family, she was named Paraskeva.
The girl professed the Christian faith during the persecution of Emperor Diocletian against Orthodox people. When Paraskeva's parents died, she became a rich bride and many worthy men proposed marriage. But she chose the path of celibacy and called herself the bride of Christ.
For refusing to worship pagan idols, the girl was tied to a tree and tortured. Then she was thrown into prison, where a heavenly angel healed her body. When Eparch Aetius brought her to a pagan temple, an earthquake occurred and all the statues of the gods turned to dust. He assessed this as a magical effect and ordered the saint to be tied to a pole and burned with fire, but the flame turned against the pagans. Frightened by the loss of their influence, the eparch ordered her head to be cut off.
Paraskeva is depicted on icons as a tall girl, with light brown hair and a crown. In the left hand there is a scroll, and in the right hand there is a cross. People who were engaged in agricultural work greatly respected the saint and there was an image of her in every home. The image was decorated with ribbons, flowers, and fragrant herbs. On the day of her feast, Christians went to church and brought the fruits of their labors for consecration. It was customary to consecrate a piece of linen, which is why the saint is also called Paraskeva Linen.

What do they pray to Paraskeva?
Memorial Day of Paraskeva Friday November 10th. On this day certain signs arose:
- if you see a horse’s hoof print filled with water, then winter will come in a month;
- if there is a lot of dirt, then spring will be rainy;
- if a woman is pregnant, then she should not wash or comb her hair on this day;
- It was forbidden to do house cleaning, laundry and other household chores;
- the peasants did not plow or harrow the land, this was considered a great sin, it was believed that this is how the saint’s eyes become clogged.
In ancient times, people believed that on this day a saint walks the earth and checks how Orthodox Christians honor traditions and follow the rules. Women call her “Holy Woman.” There was a saying: “Whoever laughs a lot on Friday will cry a lot in old age.”
What Saint Paraskeva is asked for:
- about healing from physical and spiritual illnesses;
- about the patronage of family well-being, rural work and livestock;
- about procreation;
- about a successful marriage;
- about the conception and birth of a female child;
- about assistance in trade matters, so the tradition of holding fairs on Fridays arose.
A prayer text about health helps with severe headaches, toothaches, fevers and during satanic temptations:
“O holy and blessed martyr of Christ Paraskeva, maiden beauty, praise of the martyrs, purity of image, magnanimous mirrors, wonder of the wise, guardian of the Christian faith, idolatry flattery of the accuser, champion of the Divine Gospel, zealot of the Lord’s commandments, worthy to come to the haven of eternal rest and in the hall of the Bridegroom your Christ God, brightly rejoicing, adorned with the extreme crown of virginity and martyrdom! We pray to you, holy martyr, be sorrowful for us to Christ God. Through His most blessed vision one can always have fun; pray to the All-Merciful One, who opened the eyes of the blind with a word, that He may deliver us from the illness of our hair, both physical and mental; With your holy prayers, kindle the dark darkness that has come from our sins, ask the Father of Light for the light of grace for our spiritual and physical eyes; enlighten us, darkened by sins; by the light of God's grace, that for the sake of your holy prayers sweet vision will be given to the dishonest. O great servant of God! O most courageous maiden! O strong martyr Saint Paraskeva! With your holy prayers, be a helper to us sinners, intercede and pray for the damned and extremely negligent sinners, hasten to help us, for these are extremely weak. Pray to the Lord, pure maiden, pray to the Merciful, holy martyr, pray to your Bridegroom, immaculate bride of Christ, so that through your prayers, having escaped the darkness of sin, in the light of the true faith and divine deeds, we will enter into the eternal light of the unevening day, into the city of everlasting joy, in now you shine brightly with glory and endless joy, glorifying and singing with all the Heavenly Powers the Trisagion of the One Divinity, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Orthodox icons and prayers
Holy bride of Christ, long-suffering martyr Paraskeva! We know that from your youth you loved with all your soul and with all your heart the King of glory, Christ the Savior, and you were ignorant of Him alone, having distributed your possessions to the poor and poor. You shone with the power of your piety, your chastity and righteousness, like the rays of the sun, living holy among the infidels and fearlessly preaching Christ God to them.
You, taught by your parents from the days of your youth, have always reverently honored the days of the redemptive passions of our Lord Jesus Christ, for His sake you yourself voluntarily suffered. You, who by the right hand of the angel of God were wonderfully healed from incurable wounds and received indescribable lightness, amazed the unfaithful tormentors. You, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ and by the power of your prayer in the pagan temple, having cast down all the idols, you have crushed them to dust.
You, scorched by the lights, with your single prayer to the omnipotent Lord you extinguished the natural fire, and with the same flame, miraculously kindled through the angel of God, having burned the frantic lawless people, you led many people to the knowledge of the true God. You, for the glory of the Lord, having accepted the sword beheading of your head from the tormentors, you valiantly ended your suffering feat, ascending with your soul into heaven, into the palace of your longed-for Bridegroom, Christ the King of Glory, who joyfully greeted you with this heavenly voice: Rejoice, righteous ones, for the martyr Paraskeva was crowned !
In the same way, today we greet you, long-suffering one, and, looking at your holy icon, we cry out to you with tenderness: all-honorable Paraskeva! We know that you have great boldness towards the Lord: pray therefore to His Lover of Mankind and for us from those present and praying to you. May He give us, like you, patience and complacency in troubles and sorrowful circumstances; May He, through your intercession and intercession, grant a joyful, prosperous and peaceful life, health and salvation, and good haste in everything to our beloved Fatherland, may He bestow His holy blessing and peace, and may He grant all Orthodox Christians, through your holy prayers, confirmation in the faith , piety and holiness, success in Christian love and all virtue: may He cleanse us sinners from all filth and vice: may He protect us with His holy angels, may He intercede, preserve and have mercy on everyone with His holy grace and make us heirs and partakers of His Heavenly Kingdom.
And thus, having improved salvation through your holy prayers, intercession and intercession, all-glorious bride of Christ Paraskeva, let us glorify all the most pure and magnificent name of the true God, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, in our saints always, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Ritual with rose hips
There is a very simple ritual that can help restore peace in the family. You don't even have to say any words for it. All you need is a sheet of paper, salt, a pen and some dried hawthorn flowers.
The flowers should first be crushed as finely as possible. Write the name of your opponent on paper, and then tear the piece of paper into small pieces. At the same time, you should devote yourself completely to the ritual, expressing as many negative emotions as possible that this woman evokes in you.
Then throw the paper directly on the floor, and sprinkle salt and hawthorn flowers on top. At the same time, throw out all the negativity that has recently accumulated inside you. Afterwards, carefully sweep everything away and wash the floor thoroughly. With the help of this ritual, you will cleanse the energy in the house and return peace to the family.

Always having the Lord before your eyes, for the confession of faith with clubs you were mercilessly beaten by the tormentors, you rejoiced, the ever-memorable martyr Paraskeva, crying out: “Nothing will separate me from Your love, Christ,” and thus, struggling for the Glory of God, you pleased the Lord. Moreover, remembering your honest suffering, we call you with tenderness:
Rejoice, O all-pervading lamb, offered to the chief shepherd Christ like a fragrant sacrifice; Rejoice, you have presented your immaculate torment to the immortal Bridegroom Christ, like a most honorable vein.
Rejoice, pure young woman, who revealed the true confession of the Orthodox faith before the infidels; Rejoice, righteous accuser, who revealed the unrighteousness of the wicked judge.
Rejoice, for by you the wicked enemy has been put to shame, seeing himself defeated by a young maiden; Rejoice, for the powers of heaven rejoice over you, seeing you weak and young, defeating fierce tormentors.
Rejoice, pure dove and immaculate in heart; Rejoice, humble lamb, successfully becoming more honest and blessed than the passion of the Lord.
Rejoice, for you were offered to your Creator like fragrant incense; Rejoice, as the bright Sun of Truth looks upon you, shining from the grave for three days and strengthening you for the suffering feat.
Rejoice, for for your glorious suffering you have been vouchsafed to enter the palace of Christ, the King of Heaven; Rejoice, for there, together with the saints, you enjoy indescribable joy.
Rejoice, Paraskeva, all-praised bride of Christ.
